                Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as endocrinologic diseases among reproductive-age women caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries associated with a high risk for metabolic disorder(1) as resulting of enlarged ovaries(2), leading to hormone imbalance(excessive androgen and anti-müllerian hormone (AMH) )(1)(3)(4)(5), induced Hirsutism(6)(7), reproductive disorder(10(12)), risks of type 2 diabetes(9)(10)(11), metabolic syndrome(10)(12) and early cardiovascular disease(8)(13), acne(10)(14), endometrial cancer(18)(19),weight gain and obesity(15)(16)(17). The syndrome effects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.
Unfortunately, according to studies, women with PCOs after the reproductive age, are associated to continuously increase risk of type II diabetes, with no increasingaltered glucose tolerance(20), CVD and hypertension(21).

                          The Treatments

In Weight Loss Perspective
Weight loss(733)(734) for obese patients is one of most vital factor to reduce PCOs symptoms(735)(737) and risk of PCOs complications(736)(737). Some researchers found that 5-10% of weight low will improve PCOs features(737) by 25%, including pregnancy(738). How can you lose weight and maintain healthybody for a healthy conception?

                 The Weight Loss Vitamins C

Vitamin C, also known as L-ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble vitamin, found in fresh fruits, berries and green vegetables. It is best known for its free radical scavengers activity and regenerating oxidized vitamin E for immune support.

Vitamin C deficiency and incidence of obesity
Vitamin C and other nutrients deficiency not only are associated to the risk of Obesity(807) but also enhances the risk of lipids, inflammation and insulin resistance(808). According to the research team at Universidad Autónoma de Querétaro, there is an associated link between Obesity and Zinc and vitamins A and C concentration in women from rural Mexico, in a fasting blood sample analysis (809).
Although genetic susceptibility to obesity is associated with gene polymorphisms affecting biochemical pathways which also impacted by specific foods and nutrients. According to Dr. Johnston CS., vitamin C depletion is associated to positively related to body mass, individuals with adequate vitamin C status oxidize 30% more fat during a moderate exercise bout than individuals with low vitamin Cstatus(810)

Vitamin C, the protective effect against obesity
Endothelial dysfunction has found to be associated to the incidence of obesity(811). The study of 76 healthy subjects (50 men and 26 women aged 21-45 years) obese subject, showed a positive effect of vitamin Cand indomethacin in reduced oxidative stress contributed to endothelial dysfunction in human obesity(812).
In the evaluation of the potential inhibitory activity on α-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase of Citrus spp. fruits of Spanish origin, grapefruit, containing higher contents of phytochemicals, vitamin C, is found to have a great value for nutrition and treatment of diet-related diseases(813).
L-Ascorbic acid, in the study of whether the vitamin would facilitate the anti-obesity effects of chitosan and psyllium husk in vivo, indicated that addition of vitamin C in diet influences the reduction in body weight gain and food efficiency ratio, and increases in total fecal weight and fecal fat excretion in guinea pigs fed a high-fat diet(814).

Taking altogether, deficiency of vitamin C and other nutrients are associated to increase risk of obese incidence. Vitamin C may be effective in induced weight loss for obese subjects due to its positive interaction in inhibiting oxidative stress causes of endothelial dysfunction. Daily ingestion of high-dose vitamin C may be considered safe, but in rare incidence, overdoses in a prolonged period of time, may cause intra-renal oxalate crystal deposition, a fatal nephrotoxicity(815)(816).

The smoothie for prevention and treatment of Membranous glomerulonephritis
Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1/ 2 cup tomato
1/2 cup pineapple
1 1/2 cups blueberry juice

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed.
3. Serve immediately

The finding of a natural source for treatment of Membranous glomerulonephritis has been running into many obstacles, many ingredients showed initially with promising result in animal studies have not produced same potentials in large sample size and mutli centers human trials.

Membranous glomerulonephritis is a slowly progressive kidney disease caused by the thickening of part of the glomerular basement membrane as a result of autoimmune injury(1) probably caused by expression of anti-aldose reductase (AR) and anti-manganese superoxide dismutase (SOD2) IgG(6), affecting mostly Caucasian patients between ages of 30 and 50 years.
Recent study led by renowned institutions suggested that Resveratrol  found abundantly may consist strong anti-complement, anti-oxidative, and anti-apoptotic effects in a murine model of membranous nephropathy(2), through attenuated renal Eathological changes in db/db mice model(3).

Ferulic Acid found in tomato may be used as phytochemicals derived from dietary components to combat human diseases, including membranous glomerulonephritis(4). According to the Taipei Medical University, the antioxidant also an Derived Polyphenol from Dang Qui, inhibited the progression of membranous Nephropathy in a Mouse Model, through involved the regulation of oxidative stresses, angiogenic and antiangiogenic factors, and attenuation of Th2 immune response(4)
Melatonin, boosted intake of pineapple, in animal model, exhibited anti expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines (interleukin 10), production of reactive oxygen species and induced apoptotic TUNEL-positive apoptotic cells in the kidney through amelioration of proteinuria and glomerular lesions,...of membranous glomerulonephritis((5).

The smoothie of Blueberry, Tomato and Pineapple may hold a key in further studies in production of effective natural ingredients for prevention and treatment of any type of Membranous glomerulonephritis without inducing adverse effects.

People who are at increased risk of any of Membranous glomerulonephritis, due to family history, weaken immunity... should drink at least one cup daily. People with Membranous glomerulonephritis, should drink no more than 4 servings daily, depending to the digestive toleration.

Beside cancer, heart disease kills more than 2,000 Americans everyday. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease.
There are many causes of heart diseases. Most of heart diseases are caused by high blood pressure contributes to hardening of the arteries. High levels of bad cholesterol (LDL) build up in the arteries as a result of uncontrolled diet with high levels of saturated fat and trans fat. All these add to the formation of atherosclerosis lesions and eventually arterial blockage or anything that serves to damage the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart can be defined as a risk of heart disease.

                   Ischemic heart disease

Ischemic heart disease is defined as a condition of reduced blood supply of the heart muscle, as a result of coronary artery disease caused by plague building up in the arteries.

                    The Diagnosis and tests

Diagnosis of ischemic heart disease are depending to the nature symptoms for discovering the disease in its early stages to prevent a heart attack from occurring
1. Electrocardiogram or electrocardiography (ECG)
Electrocardiogram or electrocardiography (ECG) is the test to diagnose the heart conditions by measuring the electrical activity of the heart and highly recommendation for patients showing symptoms of severe chest pain. An abnormal patterns on the EKG may be an indication of Ischemia. In some cases, exercise testing, an exercise ECG test or 'stress test' as ECG recording is taken while you are exercising to induce the symptoms of chest pain in finding the causes.

2. X ray
X ray may be necessary to rule out other causes of the symptoms.

3. Blood tests
The aim of the blood test is to monitor the activity of the heart, including cardiac enzyme tests to test for the damage of heart muscle.
4. Echocardiogram (echo)

Echocardiogram (echo) provide your doctor an image of your heart using sound waves by identifying the overall function of your heart, including the structure, thickness, movement of each heart valve, etc.
Some researchers indicated that Exercise testing, whether by echocardiographyor ECG, is more useful at excluding CAD than confirming it. Clinicians have concentrated on individualising the treatment of CAD, but there is great scope for individualising the diagnosis of CAD using exercise testing(16).

5. Coronary angiography
The aim of the test is to provide information of providing information of your heart functioning and to identify the narrowing and blockage of the coronary arteries.
6. Radionuclide stress test
The aim of the test is to identify whether the blockage in a coronary artery results in diminished blood flow to a part of the cardiac muscle.

For a healthy person weight loss is simple: burn more calories than you consume. The healthiest weight is determine by height to weight ratio or Body Mass Index (BMI) and the amount of fat in your body. Unfortunately over 60% of the North American population is considered to be overweight, according to the BMI index.

Together with a healthy diet and consuming more of fruits, vegetables and meat and dairy foods that are low in saturated and trans fat would help you to lose weight and keep it off longer. Be sure to talk to your doctor before you would like to start any weight loss program.
Here are some common sense approaches that might help you to lose weight:

1. Don't skip your breakfast
Skipping meals will only cause you to eat more in the next meal. After a long period of hunger, your stomach triggers the brain to release more chemicals that ask you to eat more (more than 2 meals combine) in the next meal.

2. Follow the BMI index
According to the National Institution of Health, the definition of healthy weight is a BMI of 24 or less. Men and Women with a BMI of 25-30 are considered to beoverweight. BMI is reliable for people from 19-70 years of age. Study reveals that for people over 64 years of age, the risk of dying from heart disease does not go up with a BMI between 25-27. A BMI over 28 seems to increase risk of heart disease.

3. Slowly and Surely
Change your lifestyle habits slowly. Each day replace some of the saturated and trans fat foods
with healthier foods.
Start Exercising gradually. Walk 10 minutes a day for a few days then 15 minutes, 30 minutes. Keep going until you work your way up to doing a supervised exercise program. Be happy if you lose 2 to 3 Lbs a week.

4. Stay Moderately active
Sitting in front of the computer or television all day will increase the risk of arthritis, type II diabetes, obesity, heart diseases, and depression.

5. Shopping parking
Parking your car at the far end of the parking lot will help you to burn more calories. If you calculate the calories which you burn from all the trips that you take such as mall shopping, grocery shopping, working, picking up the kid from school, you will be surprised. Each mile will burn somewhere around 125 calories.

6. Moderate intake of alcohol
Moderate drinking of alcohol beverages containing no fat, no cholesterol, and very little sodium and is often associated with weight loss in women. Moderate consumption of alcohol is associated with better health and longer life. Drinking a cup of red wine for women and two cups for men daily will help increase blood circulation and decrease risk of heart attack.

7. Study shows that eating chicken soup with rice and drinking water together before meal will help to curb your appetite.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.

You can calculate your BMI index BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

In the examination of the difference in body changes of subjects with overweight partners and those with normal weight partners, conducted by Purdue University, West Lafayette(1), researchers found that both overweight and normal weightpartners lost weight incidental to treatment but as expected, body changes of overweight partners significantly decreased over time whereas body changes of normal weight partners did not. Overweight partners and subjects lost statistical equivalent amounts of weight but there was a significant correlation at posttreatment between body changes of subjects in the overweight partner group and their partners. It was concluded that if body changes of both subjects and their overweight partners are considered, couples programs might be a cost-effectiveand important public health approach because two individuals lose weight as inexpensively as one and more people are treated.
