Health Benefits of Oolong Tea - Diabetes
a. In the experience of Acute administration of oolong tea decreases blood glucose levels of the study of "High oolong tea consumption predicts future risk of diabetes among Japanese male workers: a prospective cohort study" by Hayashino Y, Fukuhara S, Okamura T, Tanaka T, Ueshima H; HIPOP-OHP Research Group.[3a] reasearchers found that drank one cup of oolong tea per day and 1.64 (95% CI 1.11-2.40) for those drinking two or more cups per day. Fasting blood glucose increment per year was 0.11 mmol/l (95% CI 0.09-0.12 mmol/l), 0.12 mmol/l (95% CI 0.09-0.15 mmol/l) and 0.15 mmol/l (95% CI 0.11-0.18 mmol/l), respectively, for oolong tea consumption of 0, 1 and ≥ 2 cups/day, with a significant linear trend (P < 0.0001) and suggested that Long-term consumption of oolong tea may be a predictive factor for new onset diabetes. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the role of oolong tea in the risk of developing diabetes.

b. In the determination of Oolong tea and healthy adults glucose metabolism of the study of "Oolong tea does not improve glucose metabolism in non-diabetic adults" by Baer DJ, Novotny JA, Harris GK, Stote K, Clevidence B, Rumpler WV.[3b], researchers found that there are No significant differences were detected for fasting plasma glucose, fasting serum insulin, incremental plasma glucose area under the concentration time curve (AUC), total plasma glucose AUC or total serum insulin AUC and suggested that Neither oolong tea nor oolong tea supplemented with catechins or other polyphenols produced improved glucose metabolism in healthy adult volunteers on the basis of this highly controlled dietary intervention trial.

c. In the testing of extract of green and black tea and type II diabetes of the study of "The effect of an extract of green and black tea on glucose control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus: double-blind randomized study" by Mackenzie T, Leary L, Brooks WB.[3c], researchers found that The changes were not significantly different between study arms. We did not find a hypoglycemic effect of extract of green and black tea in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

d. In the testing of Oolong tea effects in type II diabetes" of the study of "Antihyperglycemic effect of oolong tea in type 2 diabetes" by Hosoda K, Wang MF, Liao ML, Chuang CK, Iha M, Clevidence B, Yamamoto S.[3d],researchers found that oolong tea markedly lowered concentrations of plasma glucose (from 229 +/- 53.9 to 162.2 +/- 29.7 mg/dl, P < 0.001) and fructosamine (from 409.9 +/- 96.1 to 323.3 +/- 56.4 micromol/l, P < 0.01), whereas the water control group had not changed (208.7 +/- 61.0 vs. 232.3 +/- 63.1 mg/dl for glucose and from 368.4 +/- 85.0 to 340.0 +/- 76.1 micromol/l for fructosamine) and suggested that Oolong tea may be an effective adjunct to oral hypoglycemic agents in the treatment of type 2 diabetes

Green Tea: Wuyi Cliff Oolong Tea and Weight Loss

Wuyi Cliff Oolong tea, the best of Oolong, one of 3 ingredients of Tava Tea, is a species of Camellia sinensis belonging to the family Theaceae, native the Wuyi Mountain area. Its leaves and leaf buds has been used as tea in Chinese culture and many places in the world, including Wuyi Rock Tea, Tie Guan Yin tea, Taiwan tea and oolong tea, Iron Goddess of Mercy and other products in Fujian, etc.. Oolong can be bought as green or black tea but it is best known as a black tea in the process of withering under the strong sun and oxidation before curling and twisting.

Health Benefits of Oolong Tea - Weight Loss
a. In the examination of anti-obesity effects of oolong tea on diet-induced overweight or obesity in the study of "Beneficial effects of oolong tea consumption on diet-induced overweight and obese subjects" by He RR, Chen L, Lin BH, Matsui Y, Yao XS, Kurihara H.[2a], researchers found that A total of 70% of the severely obese subjects did show a decrease of more than 1 kg in body weight, including 22% who lost more than 3 kg. Similarly, 64% of the obese subjects and 66% of the overweight subjects lost more than 1 kg during the experiment, and the subcutaneous fat content decreased in 12% of the subjects and concluded that Oolong tea could decrease body fat content and reduce body weight through improving lipid metabolism. Long term consumption of oolong tea may prevent against obesity.

b. In the determination of Oolong tea is traditionally reported to have anti-obesity and hypolipidaemic effects with a high-fat diet-induced obese mice were treated with oolong tea for 10 weeks of the study of "Anti-obesity action of oolong tea" by Han LK, Takaku T, Li J, Kimura Y, Okuda H.[2b], researchers indicated that the anti-obesity effects of oolong tea in high-fat diet-treated mice might be due partly to the enhancing effect of caffeine isolated from oolong tea on noradrenaline-induced lipolysis in adipose tissue, and to the inhibitory action of some other substance in oolong tea on pancreatic lipase activity and concluded that oolong tea may be an effective crude drug for the treatment of obesity and fatty liver caused by a high-fat diet.

c. In the obesity management regarded to the consumption of caffeine, capsaicin and different teas such as green, white and oolong tea, of the study of "Thermogenic ingredients and body weight regulation" by Hursel R, Westerterp-Plantenga MS.[2c], researchers indicated that they may increase energy expenditure (4-5%), fat oxidation (10-16%) and have been proposed to counteract the decrease in metabolic rate that is present during weight loss. Daily increases in thermogenesis of approximately 300-400 kJ can eventually lead to substantial weight loss but certain conditions have to be met before thermogenic ingredients yield an effect, as intra-variability with respect to body weight regulation has been shown between subjects.

d. In the research of study of hypolipidemic and anti-obesity effects of Oolong tea of the study of "Mechanisms of hypolipidemic and anti-obesity effects of tea and tea polyphenols" by JK, Lin-Shiau SY. researchers found that Oolong tea has demonstrated that the body weights of rats and their plasma triglyceride, cholesterol, and LDL-cholesterol have been significantly reduced by feedings of oolong

Green Tea: Wuyi Cliff Oolong Tea and Cardiovascular Disease

Health benefits of Oolong tea

1. Cardiovascular disease
a. In an examination of the relationship between the consumption of these beverages and risk of mortality from CVD, 76,979 individuals aged 40-79 years free of stroke, coronary heart disease (CHD) and cancer of the study of "Coffee, green tea, black tea and oolong tea consumption and risk of mortality from cardiovascular disease in Japanese men and women" Mineharu Y, Koizumi A, Wada Y, Iso H, Watanabe Y, Date C, Yamamoto A, Kikuchi S, Inaba Y, Toyoshima H, Kondo T, Tamakoshi A; JACC study Group.[1a], researchers found that risk reduction for total CVD across categories of caffeine intake was most prominently observed in the second highest quintile, with a 38% lower risk among men and 22% among women as consumption of coffee, green tea and oolong tea and total caffeine intake was associated with a reduced risk of mortality from CVD.

b. Ischemic stroke
In the determination of consumption may reduce the risk of ischemic stroke, available epidemiological evidence is equivocal, mainly due to the lack of accurate measurements on tea exposure of the study of "Tea consumption and ischemic stroke risk: a case-control study in southern China" by Liang W, Lee AH, Binns CW, Huang R, Hu D, Zhou Q.[1b], researchers found that Significant inverse dose-response relationships were also found for years of drinking and the amount of dried tea leaves brewed. The adjusted ORs for the highest level of consumption in terms of frequency of intake, duration of drinking, and average tea leaves brewed were 0.61 (95% CI, 0.40 to 0.94), 0.40 (95% CI, 0.25 to 0.64), and 0.27 (95% CI, 0.16 to 0.46), respectively and suggested that Long-term tea consumption is associated with reduced risk of ischemic stroke.

c. Hypertension
In the examination of Oolong tea suppressed renal sympathetic nerve activity (RSNA) and blood pressure (BP) of the study of "Effects of oolong tea on renal sympathetic nerve activity and spontaneous hypertension in rats" by Tanida M, Tsuruoka N, Shen J, Kiso Y, Nagai K. [1c]researchers found that Oolong Tea may exert its hypotensive action through changes in autonomic neurotransmission via an afferent neural mechanism

d. Coronary artery disease
In the experiment of Plasma adiponectin levels are reduced in obesity, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and in coronary artery disease (CAD) of the study of "Oolong tea increases plasma adiponectin levels and low-density lipoprotein particle size in patients with coronary artery disease" by Shimada K, Kawarabayashi T, Tanaka A, Fukuda D, Nakamura Y, Yoshiyama M, Takeuchi K, Sawaki T, Hosoda K, Yoshikawa J.[1d], researcher found that there was a significant difference in plasma adiponectin levels before and after 1 month intake of Oolong tea (6.26 +/- 3.26 microg/ml), plasma level LDL particle size (25.02+/-0.67 nm) and suggested that Oolong tea may have beneficial effects on the progression of atherosclerosis in patients with CAD

The neurotransmitter dopamine (DA) is an important molecule bridging the nervous and immune systems. According to the study by the Ohio State University, Columbus, DA through autocrine/paracrine manner modulates the functions of immune effector cells by acting through its receptors present in these cells. DA also has unique and opposite effects on T cell functions. Although DA activates naïve or resting T cells, but it inhibits activated T cells. In addition, changes in the expression of DA receptors and their signaling pathways especially in T cells are associated with altered immune functions in disorders like schizophrenia and Parkinson's disease. These results suggest an immunoregulatory role of DA(24).

In the study to assess the short-term haemodynamic effects of terminating dopamine and/or a combination of noradrenaline and nitroglycerin infusions in 21 patients in acute respiratory failure, found that off treatment, stroke index and cardiac index decreased significantly from 40.2 to 36.9 ml m-2 (P < 0.02) and from 3.80 to 3.42 litres m-2 (P < 0.02), respectively. Cardiac filling pressures decreased significantly and systemic vascular resistance increased, when infusions were stopped. As to heart rate, mean arterial pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure, right and left ventricular ejection fraction there were no significant changes between the data obtained during and off treatment. Although the haemodynamic status was significantly better during treatment with dopamineand/or noradrenaline-nitroglycerin in some respects, the overall beneficial effects of inotropic support were much less than anticipated(23).

According to the study by Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics, University of Pennsylvania, chronic intake of high-fat (HF) diet is known to alter brain neurotransmitter systems that participate in the central regulation of food intake. Dopamine (DA) system changes in response to HF diet have been observed in the hypothalamus, important in the homeostatic control of food intake, as well as within the central reward circuitry [ventral tegmental area (VTA), nucleus accumbens (NAc), and pre-frontal cortex (PFC)], critical for coding the rewarding properties of palatable food and important in hedonically driven feeding behavior(22).

Hormone Dopamine: Dopamine and natriuresis (sodium loss) in the kidneys

Diuretic and natriuretic effects of renal dopamine (DA) are well established. In the study of male Wistar rats to determine the pattern of UDAV during volume expansion and to characterize the involvement of monoamine-oxidase (MAO) and aromatic amino-acid decarboxylase (AADC) , found that in C rats UDAV (ng/30 min/100g BWt) increased in the first 30 min expansion from 11.5 +/- 1.20 to 21.8 +/- 3.10 (p < 0.05) and decreased thereafter. IMAO showed a similar pattern but significantly higher than C at 30 min expansion (32.5 +/- 2.20, p < 0.05). IMAO greatly reduced MAO activity from 8.29 +/- 0.35 to 1.1 +/- 0.03 nmol/mg tissue/hour and significantly increased diuresis and natriuresis over controls. BNZ abolished the early UDAV peak to 3.2+/-0.72 (p < 0.01) and though, UDAV increased over C after 60 min expansion, natriuresis and diuresis were diminished by BNZ treatment. Results indicate that an increment in renal DA release into urine occurs early in expansion and in a peak-shaped way.(21).

According to the study of FRONTOTEMPORAL AND DOPAMINERGIC CONTROL OF IDEA GENERATION AND CREATIVE DRIVE by Alice W. Flaherty , mesolimbic dopamine influences novelty seeking and creative drive. Dopamine agonists and antagonists have opposite effects on goal-directed behavior and hallucinations. Creative drive is not identical to skill—the latter depends more on neocortical association areas. However, drive correlates better with successful creative output than skill does(20).

What roles do mesolimbic and neostriatal dopamine systems play in reward? Do they mediate the hedonic impact of rewarding stimuli? Do they mediate hedonic reward learning and associative prediction? According to the study by University of Michigan, instead that dopamine may be more important to incentive salienceattributions to the neural representations of reward-related stimuli. Incentive salience, we suggest, is a distinct component of motivation and reward. In other words, dopamine systems are necessary for 'wanting' incentives, but not for 'liking' them or for learning new 'likes' and 'dislikes'(19).

In vitro and in vivo studies have demonstrated that apart from its hemodynamic action dopamine can modulate immune responses. According to the study by Institut für Anästhesiologie und Operative Intensivmedizin, Universitätsklinikum, dopamine reduces the synthesis of proinflammatory and induces the synthesis of anti-inflammatory mediators. Dopamine inhibits neurohormone synthesis, lymphocyte proliferation and platelet aggregation. It reduces the phagocytic activity of neutrophils and induces apoptosis. Particularly with regard to sepsis, where high serum dopamine levels are reached by enhanced endogenous production, exogenous application and impaired clearance, this immunomodulation may have a clinical impact(18).

Individuals make choices and prioritize goals using complex processes that assign value to rewards and associated stimuli. According to the University of Michigan in rat study, dopamine acts selectively in a form of stimulus-reward learning in which incentive salience is assigned to reward cues. In individuals with a propensity for this form of learning, reward cues come to powerfully motivate and control behaviour. This work provides insight into the neurobiology of a form of stimulus-reward learning that confers increased susceptibility to disorders of impulse control(17).

                        Hormone Catecholamines

Catecholamines, derived from the amino acid tyrosine, produced by the adrenal glands, which are found on top of the kidneys. are epinephrine (adrenaline), norepinephrine (noradrenaline) and dopamine. The hormone are released into the blood during times of physical or emotional stress.

Hormone Dopamine: Dopamine and working memory

There is accumulating evidence that training working memory (WM) leads to beneficial effects in tasks that were not trained. According to the study by Department of Neuroscience and Stockholm Brain Institute, Karolinska Institutet, variation in the dopamine transporter gene (DAT1) influences improvements in WM and fluid intelligence in preschool-age children following cognitive training. Our results emphasize the importance of the role of dopamine in determining cognitive plasticity(16)

Hormone Dopamine: Dopamine in the regulation of cognition and attention

Dopamine (DA) acts as a key neurotransmitter in the brain.. In the early stages of Parkinson's disease (PD), alterations of executive functions also suggest a role for DA in regulating cognitive functions. Some other diseases, which can also involve DA dysfunction, such as schizophrenia or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children, as shown from the ameliorative action of dopaminergic antagonists and agonists, respectively, also show alteration of cognitive functions. According to the study by Université de La Méditerranée, a correlation exists between DA innervation and expression of cognitive capacities. Altering the dopaminergic transmission could, therefore, contribute to cognitive impairment(15).

Dysfunction in the monoamine systems of serotonin (5-HT), norepinephrine (NE) and dopamine (DA) may causally be related to major depressive disorder (MDD). According to the study by University of Amsterdam, monoamine depletion studies demonstrate decreased mood in subjects with a family history of MDD and in drug-free patients with MDD in remission, but do not decrease mood in healthy humans. Although depletion studies usefully investigate the etiological link of 5-HT and NE with MDD, they fail to demonstrate a causal relation. They presumably clarify a vulnerability trait to become depressed. Directions for further investigation of this vulnerability trait are proposed(14).
