The Best Weight Loss and Healthy Recipe - Nut and seed Mylk (India)
Contributed by Ani's Raw Food Asia by Ani Phyo, Published by Life Long Book. Asian Cuisine the Raw Food Way. You can visit her website at aniphyo.com
Make 4 cups
Cashews are a sweet nut by nature, and when I make cashew mylk, I often leave out my sweetener. But if you like you mylk on sweeter side, sweeten with stevia, agave syrup or a whole fruit like dates. Sesame seeds make for a calcium packed mylk but can taste a bit bitter, so you may want to mix in some cashew or almond with it. Have fun exploring different nuts and mixes to make endless varieties of mylk.
1/2 cup of you favorite nuts/or seeds, soaked in filtered water (see soaking table on page 33) and rinsed well before using.
Pinch of stevia or 1/2 cup pitted dates or 3 tsp. agave syrup, brown rice, or maple syrup, optional.
Pinch of sea salt
5 cups of coconuts and/or filtered water.
Place all ingredients in the blender, adding a small amount of water first. Blend smooth. Then add remain water and blend. I love fiber in my mylk, but you can always strain it out using a nut mylk or filtered bag if preferred.
Will keep 4 days or longer.
Variation: Add cacao powder, vanilla bean, or strawberries to make different flavored mylk. The possibilities are truly endless.
Soaking table
Almond, 1cup 8-10 hours, Pecans, Walnuts, Cashews, flax seeds, sesame seeds 1 cup 4 -6 hours, Buckwheat, Oat groats, 1 cup, 6 hours, Pumpkin seeds 6 -8 hours, Sun flower seeds 1 cup 8 - 10 hours, Quinoa, 1 cup 2 -3 hours.

Thyroid disease
Thyroid disease is defined as a condition of malfunction of thyroid. Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland is over active and produces too much thyroid hormones.
1. Systemic Sclerosis
Context:Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is a connective tissue disease of unknown etiology, and several studies reported its association with thyroid autoimmune disorders, according to the study by the University of Pisa and University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, there is a high incidence of new cases of hypothyroidism and thyroid dysfunction in female sclerodermic patients. Female sclerodermic patients, who are at high risk (a borderline high [even if in the normal range] TSH value, anti-thyroperoxidase antibody positivity, and a hypoechoic and small thyroid) should have periodic thyroid function follow-up(26).
2. Osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia
In the study of 91 women with RA evaluated, 29 (30%) had evidence of thyroid dysfunction compared with 10 (11%) of 93 controlsto determine whether thyroid dysfunction is found with increased frequency in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), showed that thyroid dysfunction is seen at least three times more often in women with RA than in women with similar demographic features with non-inflammatory rheumatic diseases such as osteoarthritis and fibromyalgia(27).
3. Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM)
In the study of the data of consecutive patients of T1DM presenting to department of Endocrinology from May 1997 to December 2011 were retrospectively analyzed in context of associated clinical profile, found that among 260 patients diagnosed as T1DM, 21 (8%) had hypothyroidism, 4 (1.5%) had hyperthyroidism and 2 (0.7%) had primary adrenal insufficiency. Eighteen patients (7%) had celiac disease, 9 (3.5%) had Turner’s syndrome, 5 patients (1.9%) had Klinefelter’s syndrome, whereas Down’s syndrome and Noonan’s syndrome was present in 2 and 1 patients (0.7%) respectively(28).
4. Increased pituitary corticotroph responsiveness to CRH and abnormalities in all three components of the HPA axis
According to the study by the, long-term hypothyroidism is associated with adrenal insufficiency with abnormalities in all three components of the HPA axis. Short-term hypothyroidism, on the other hand, is associated with increased pituitary corticotroph responsiveness to CRH(29).
5. Hyponatremia
According to the study by the Leiden University Medical Center, hyponatremia in hypothyroidism is due to a pure renal mechanism, and cannot be ascribed to inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone(30).
6. Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is the most common cause of hypothyroidismas a result of an autoimmune disease.
7. Solitary toxic thyroid nodules
According to the study lead by Ross DS of the Forty-five patients with solitary toxic thyroid adenomas received 131I (mean dose, 10.3 mCi) for treatment of hyperthyroidism and were followed for 4.9 +/- 3.2 years (range, 0.5 to 13.5). Seventy-seven percent were euthyroid by 2 months, 91% by 6 months, and 93% by 1 year. Only 3 patients did not respond to a single dose of 131I, but all responded to multiple doses. Late recurrent hyperthyroidism occurred in 3 patients at 4.5, 6, and 10 years after treatment with a single dose of 131I(31).
8. Rhabdomyolysis
There is a report of a case of rhabdomyolysis associating hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism frequently leads to myalgias, muscle stiffness, cramps and sometimes elevated levels of muscle enzymes, but rhabdomyolysis is quite rare, according to the study by the Selcuk University(32).
9. Thyroid cancer
Acute hypothyroidism induced by thyroid hormone withdrawal in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer during monitoring for remnant or metastatic disease, seriously affects multiple organs and systems, and especially in severe cases can impair quality of life, according to the study by the University of Athens(33).
10. Restless leg syndrome
There is a study indicated that Restless leg syndrome as a result of moderate hypothyroidism(34).
11. Myxedema coma
Myxedema coma is the extreme manifestation of hypothyroidism, typically seen in patients with severe biochemical hypothyroidism. Its occurrence in association with subclinical hypothyroidism is extremely unusual, according to the study by the Prince Charles Hospital(35).
12. Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
Tarsal tunnel syndromeis associated to hypothyroidism, according to the study by the
Atkinson Morley’s Hospital, Wimbledon(36).
13. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
There is a report of a patient who developed symptoms of bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome following radioactive iodine induced hypothyroidism(37).
14. Fatty liver
According to the study by the research team lead by Xu L, there is an Impact of subclinical hypothyroidism on the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(38).
15. Sleep apnea and sleep disorders
Hypothyroidism is associated with abnormal ventilatory drive, abnormal sleep architecture, and sleep apnea. Central, obstructive, and mixed patterns of sleep apnea are commonly observed in hypothyroidism, according to the study by the Medical College of Georgia(39).

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.
You can calculate your BMI index BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)
The Studies of CV health starts with good nutrition
A healthy diet is essential, regardless of CV risk. Caloric balance is inherent to a good diet. Despite patients who say they eat little, ideal weight can be maintained if calories are burned. Composition is another component of a healthy diet. Dr. Whayne TF Jr, and Dr. Maulik N. at the University of Kentucky, showed that Exercise, in conjunction with a healthy diet and good nutrition, helps maintain optimal weight and provides CV benefit such as decreased inflammation and increased vasodilatation. Whether vitamins or other nutritional supplements are important in a healthy diet is unproven. Nevertheless, the most promising data of added benefit to a healthy diet is with vitamin D. Some dietary supplements also have promise. Alcohol, in moderation, especially red wine, has nutritional and heartprotective benefits. Antioxidants, endogenous or exogenous, have received increased interest and appear to play a favorable nutritional role. CV health starts with good nutrition(1).

The Preventive Vitamins and Minerals
1.Vitamin complex
Vitamin complex is supportive for people with Alzheimer's disease, a disorder that is also associated with low levels of pyridoxine and cobalamin. Vitamins b5, B6, B12 is vital for strengthening the immune system fighting against free radical building up in certain brain areas.
2. Iron
The right amount of iron will help the production of red blood cells and improve circulation of blood as well as oxygen levels in the blood stream, that is vital for brain cells need for better function.
3. Vitamin C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant vitamin. It helps to strengthen our immune system in fighting of the early forming of free radicals and DNA mutation. Our body can not produce vitamin C, Fruits and vegetables contain high vitamin C such as kiwi, broccoli, lemon, and apple.
4. Vitamin E
Vitamin E helps to strengthen the immune system and restore the balance of hormone.
5. Zinc
Zinc not only helps prostate gland increase production of fluid and semen, but also help to promote the production of testosterone by stopping the production of procalin and reduce the binding of sex hormone binding globulin. Increasing the testosterone levels in men will help in preventing and treating Alzheimer's disease.
6. Magnesium
Magnesium and potassium helps to strengthen and prevent calcium forming the arterial wall. Right amounts of magnesium, potassium and calcium not only help in increasing of blood circulation but also lower high blood pressure. Calcium deficiency may cause the loss of memory and senility.

Maitake Mushroom (Grifola Frondosa)
Maitake Mushroom is an edible mushroom in the genus Grifola, belonging to the family Meripilaceae, native to Japan. The herb has been used as liver protector and to enhance immune function, maintain health, preserve youth, increase longevity, etc.
Health Benefits
1. Hypertension
In the assessment of effect of two commercially-available fractions labeled SX and D derived from the edible maitake mushroom in overcoming many age-associated metabolic perturbations, found that maitake mushroom fractions lessen age-related hypertension, at least in part, via effects on the RAS; enhance insulin sensitivity; and reduce some aspects of inflammation--actions that should lead to a longer, healthier life span, according to "Maitake mushroom extracts ameliorate progressive hypertension and other chronic metabolic perturbations in aging female rats" by Preuss HG, Echard B, Bagchi D, Perricone NV.(1)
2. Immune system
In the phase I/II trial of a polysaccharide extract from Grifola frondosa (Maitakemushroom) in breast cancer patients and its immunological effects, found that oral administration of a polysaccharide extract from Maitake mushroom is associated with both immunologically stimulatory and inhibitory measurable effects in peripheral blood. Cancer patients should be made aware of the fact that botanical agents produce more complex effects than assumed, and may depress as well as enhance immune function, according to "A phase I/II trial of a polysaccharide extract from Grifola frondosa (Maitake mushroom) in breast cancer patients: immunological effects" by Deng G, Lin H, Seidman A, Fornier M, D'Andrea G, Wesa K, Yeung S, Cunningham-Rundles S, Vickers AJ, Cassileth B.(2)
3. Anti cancers
In the observation of Maitake D-Fraction, extracted from maitake mushroom, has been reported to exert its antitumor effect found that maitake D-Fraction appears to repress cancer progression and primarily exerts its effect through stimulation of NK activity. In addition, we conclude that measurement of NK cell activity may be a useful clinical parameter in monitoring disease progression during and following immunotherapy with maitake D-Fraction, according to "Effect of Maitake (Grifola frondosa) D-Fraction on the activation of NK cells in cancer patients" by Kodama N, Komuta K, Nanba H.(3)
4. Hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hepatitis
In the investigation of Maitake (Grifola frondosa) and the effect of polysaccharide compounds in health-promoting potential, found that the D-fraction, the MD-fraction, and other extracts, often in combination with whole maitake powder, have shown particular promise as immunomodulating agents, and as an adjunct to cancer and HIV therapy. They may also provide some benefit in the treatment of hyperlipidemia, hypertension, and hepatitis(4)
5. Antioxidant properties
In the The optimization of solid-state fermentation conditions for mycelial growth in wheat by culinary-medicinal maitake mushroom and its health benefits found that that fermented wheat was effective in antioxidant activity, reducing power, scavenging ability on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals, and chelating ability on ferrous ions.

Health Benefits
1. Immune enhancer
In the investigation of a novel immunomodulatory protein (P. cocos immunomodulatory protein; PCP) purified from the dried sclerotium of P. cocos (Schw.) Wolf using DE-52 cellulose and gel filtration chromatography, found that results obtained with peritoneal macrophages from TLR4-deficient C57BL/10ScN mice revealed that PCP-induced activation and PCP cell surface binding were significantly attenuated. Moreover, enzymatic deglycosylation decreased PCP-mediated responses, indicating that the glycosylated portion of PCP was a key factor in PCP signaling through TLR4 in peritoneal macrophages. These findings suggest that PCP is a new potential immune stimulator within P. cocos and that TLR4 is primarily responsible for PCP signaling in murine macrophages., according to “A novel immunomodulatory protein from Poria cocos induces Toll-like receptor 4-dependent activation within mouse peritoneal macrophages” by Chang HH, Yeh CH, Sheu F.(1).
2. Anti fungal activity
In the investigation of an antifungal strain HT16 isolated from locusts, showing strong inhibition to Pen. expansum. Based on its in vitro effectiveness, HT16 was characterized as a strain of Paenibacillus polymyxa by phenotypic tests and 16S rDNA sequence analysis, found that the antifungal component HT16 secreted was only induced by Poria cocos sclerotium (PCS), and it remained active after sterilization at 121 degrees C for 15 min. The protein was purified by ammonium sulfate precipitation, heating process, and ultrafiltration using a 10 kDa cut-off membrane(2).
3. Anti tumors
