Herbal Turmeric, the Best Functional Herb Which Processes Anti Diseases Associated with Chronic Low Grade Inflammation Potential

Inflammation is a natural response induced by the immune system in which the white blood cells in the first line of defense try to destroy the harmful pathogens before they can enter the body to multiply in the acute phase of infection

However, overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines in this phase can cause damage to the nearby healthy cells, leading abnormal production of collagen ratio in the initiation of scars forming.

Most pathogens are stopped in the acute phase of infection, depending on the location and the size of the wound and tissues damage.

If the immune system can not kill off all invaded pathogens with a set of period of time, it will compromise, leading to the low-grade chronic inflammation with the persistent production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the affected area.

Long-term low-grade inflammation ultimately leads to tissues and organs damage, inducing a number of chronic illness, including diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Symptoms of low-grade chronic inflammation include body pain as in arthritis, constant fatigue and insomnia as in cancer, depression, anxiety and mood disorders due to pain. gastrointestinal complications like constipation, diarrhea, and acid reflux, unintended weight loss or gain depending on the infected tissues and organs.

According to statistics, chronic inflammatory diseases affects approximately 350 million people worldwide and nearly 43 million people in the United States or almost 20% of the population. The prevalence of diseases associated with chronic inflammation is anticipated to increase persistently for the next 30 years, causing a financial burden on the economy and health care sector.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native in demagogical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a natural compound for the treatment of diseases associated with chronic inflammation, including cancers, researchers examined the effects of the turmeric through its bioactive components.

According to the review of previous studies, turmeric oil, present in turmeric, can enhance the bioavailability of curcumin.

In other words, essential oil isolated from turmeric in the form of curcumin-free turmeric (CFT) components is more effective for the treatment of chronic inflammatory disease compared to other extracts.

In the components analysis, turmerin, turmerone, elemene, furanodiene, curdione, bisacurone, cyclocurcumin, calebin A, and germacrene were all contributed to the efficacy of the curcumin-free turmeric (CFT).

In examining the effect of ar-turmerone (ATM) and turmerones (TUR, a mixture of 5 sesquiterpenes including ATM) against disease associated with inflammation, researchers found that both CUR and ATM inhibited lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced expression of inducible forms of inflammation by exhibiting the production of free radicals and protein involved overexpression proinflammatory cytokines.

Furthermore, ATM prevented LPS-induced translocation of certain inflammatory genes.

In a colitis model, oral administration of TUR significantly protected the large bowel against 2% dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced shortening of the large bowel by 52-58% and colon carcinogenesis.

Moreover, at a low dose, TUR markedly suppressed adenoma multiplicity by 73%, compared to the range of 63-69% of CUR.

Also, the combination of CUR and TUR at both low and high doses showed a complete abolish of tumor formation.

Based on the findings, Murakami A, the lead scientist in the chronic inflammatory disease team wrote, "we consider that its use in combination with CUR may become a powerful method for prevention of inflammation-associated colon carcinogenesis".

Taken altogether, turmeric in the form of essential oil, CUR, and TUR may be considered herbal remedies for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with chronic inflammation, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry, The Potential Anti Intestinal Cancer Natural Remedy with No Side Effects, According to Scientists

Intestinal cancer is the medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissue of the intestines.

Most cases of intestinal cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the internal tissue. At the advanced stage, after penetrating deep layers of the intestines, the cancer cells can travel a distance away from the intestine to infect other healthy tissue and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

Certain factors such as being overweight or obese, physical inactivity, certain types of diet. smoking excessive alcohol drinking, family and personal history and the increase in age, are associated with an increased risk of intestinal cancer.

Some researchers suggested that the increased incidence of intestinal cancer in the Western world may be associated with the promotion of a high-fat Western diet over the past many decades.

Dr. Manon D. Schulz, the lead scientists in the investigation of the effects of high-fat diet-mediated dysbiosis promotes intestinal carcinogenesis suggested, "Several aspects common to a Western lifestyle, including obesity and decreased physical activity, are known risks for gastrointestinal cancers. There is substantial evidence suggesting that diet profoundly affects the composition of the intestinal microbiota. Moreover, there is now unequivocal evidence linking dysbiosis to cancer development".

And, "Undoubtedly various factors contribute to the etiology of intestinal cancer, but there are compelling arguments to include high-fat diet (HFD) and composition of gut microbiota as key risk factors".

The results strongly suggested that the risk of intestinal cancer can be decreased by changing the diet pattern from the Western diet to a traditional diet with higher fruits and vegetables with a lower intake of red meat and saturated and trans fat and processed foods.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used as foods and herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural compound for the treatment intestinal carcinogenesis examined the
intestinal carcinogenesis--relationship with tissue anthocyanin levels in an animal model.

Selected Apc(Min) mice ingested C3G or Mirtoselect at 0.03, 0.1 or 0.3% in the diet for 12 weeks, and intestinal adenomas were examined.

Where Mirtoselect, is an anthocyanin mixture from bilberry, and isolated cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) is the most abundant anthocyanin in the diet.

C3G and Mirtoselect at the highest doses decreased the adenoma numbers by 45% (p < 0.001) or 30% (p < 0.05), respectively, compared to controls.

According to the intestinal mucosa and urinary assays, anthocyanins were found at the analytical detection limit in the plasma and at quantifiable levels.

More precisely, the total anthocyanin levels in mice on C3G or Mirtoselect were 43 ng and 8.1 microg/g tissue, respectively, in the intestinal mucosa, and 7.2 and 12.3 microg/ml in the urine.
These results suggested that C3G and Mirtoselect in the Apc(Min) mouse processed a chemotherapeutic effect for the treatment of intestinal carcinogenesis.

Moreover, in order to reveal more information about berries anti intestinal tumorigenesis, researchers examined the different phenolic profiles on intestinal tumorigenesis in multiple intestinal neoplasia/+ mice.

Mice selected to the study were fed a high-fat AIN93-G diet (Con) or AIN93-G diets containing 10% (w:w) freeze-dried bilberry, lingonberry (LB), or cloudberry (CB) for 10 wk.

All 3 berries significantly inhibited the formation of intestinal adenomas as indicated by a 15-30% reduction in tumor numbers.

According to the Western blotting and immunohistochemistry, all 3 berries inhibited the levels of decreased levels of proteins associated with cell cycle division.

Additionally, all 3 berries exerted early protection of the cells in the intestine against the alternation of cell DNA to facilitate the onset of the disease.

The findings strongly suggested the use of berries as chemopreventive components for the treatment of intestinal carcinogenesis.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of
intestinal cancer, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter study.

Manuka Honey, the Best Natural Liquid for Treatment Atopic Dermatitis, Researchers Reveal

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have found a herbal remedy for the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis, according to studies.

Atopic dermatitis or eczema is an inflammatory condition associated with red and itchy skin.

Most cases of atopic dermatitis are found in children. However, adults may also get it too. Skin irritation is found more often in children compared to adults.

The causes of atopic dermatitis are unknown. Some researchers suggested that certain risk factors such as genetic preposition and abnormal function of the immune system and environment conditions may be involved in the development of the disease.

Epidemiological studies suggested that most patients with chronic atopic dermatitis also have asthma and hay fever, particularly in allergies.

Some researchers suggested that atopic dermatitis is more common in people who live in the air pollution city.

Dr. Ahn K in the study of the role of air pollutants in atopic dermatitis, wrote, " Both indoor and outdoor air pollution, which are of increasing concern with urbanization, are well-known environmental risk factors for asthma, whereas there is relatively little evidence in AD".

And, " epidemiologic and experimental data on the role of air pollution in patients with AD. Recent evidence suggests that a variety of air pollutants, such as environmental tobacco smoke, volatile organic compounds, formaldehyde, toluene, nitrogen dioxide, and particulate matter, act as risk factors for the development or aggravation of AD. These air pollutants probably induce oxidative stress in the skin, leading to skin barrier dysfunction or immune dysregulation".

The results clearly suggested the risk of atopic dermatitis increases with air pollutants.

Honey, the rich golden liquid is the miraculous product made by bees using nectar from flowers.

The liquid is considered one of healthy sweet food for replacing the use of white sugar and artificial sweetener by many people.

Researchers in the course to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of dermatitis examined the Manuka honey anti skin conditions and dermal injuries.

Injection of Manuka honey showed a significant potency in the treatment of a severe atopic contact dermatitis eczematous reaction with no side effects.

Furthermore, adult volunteers with bilateral atopic dermatitis (AD) were asked to apply MH on one site overnight for seven consecutive days and leave the contralateral site untreated as possible.

There is no significant changes in the skin staphylococci observed after day 7, irrespective of honey treatment.

However, MH treatment showed significant inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines in a dose-dependent manner.

Application of MK also inhibited the mast cell degranulation against the onset of atopic dermatitis (AD).

Dr. Alangari AA, the lead scientist said in the final report, "MH is potentially effective in the treatment of AD lesions based on both clinical and cellular studies through different mechanisms".

Taken altogether, Manuka honey may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) with no side effects, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical 3,3'-Diindolylmethane, the Potential Anti Colorectal Cancer Phytochemicals With No Side Effects, Researchers Find

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM may be used as a bioactive compound for the treatment of colorectal cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

Colorectal cancer is a medical condition caused by cell growth irregularly in the tissue of the colon or rectum due to the alternation of cells DNA.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in the US, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer diagnosed in both men and women compared to other types of cancer.

The lifetime risk of colorectal cancer is 1 in 22 (4.49%) for men and 1 in 24 (4.15%) for women.

Approximately, 140,000 cases of colorectal cancer were diagnosed in the US in 2018. The cancer also causes of death of over 50, 000 people, representing 8.3% of total cancer death.

Being overweight or obese. smoking, physical inactivity, excessive alcohol drinking, the increased in age, family and personal history, genetic preposition are some of the prevalent risks of the disease.

Some researchers suggested that unhealthy diet such as the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades may be one of the major causes of colorectal cancer.

Dr. Alan Moss, the lead scientist in the evaluation of the association of between diet and colorectal cancer risk, wrote, "Studies that examined dietary factors and various cancers showed that one of the strongest associations is between CRC and meat consumption"

And "Recently, global publicity was generated by the World Health Organization International Agency for Research on Cancer consensus statement regarding the increased risk of CRC with consumption of processed or red meat.4 The 2015 statement notes that processed meat is carcinogenic to humans and lists processed meat as a group 1 substance. Processed meats result from salting, smoking, fermenting, or curing the meat, and common examples include ham, bacon, and sausage".

The results clearly suggested that by changing your diet pattern from the Western diet to a traditional diet with high fruits and vegetables, your risk colorectal can be reduced substantially.

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM are phytochemicals derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol, belonging to the group of Indoles, found abundantly in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale, etc.

Researchers in the concern of the slow growth of colorectal cancer and the prognosis in colorectal cancer patients examined the effects of 3,3'-Diindolylmethane (DIM) on cyclin D1, which was aberrantly overexpressed in colorectal cancer cells and tumors.

Where cyclin D1 is a protein needed for cellular proliferation in the G1 phase of the cell cycle.

Injection of DIM inhibited the cyclin D1 expression in colorectal cancer cells (CRC), without affecting the PPARγ expression and protease activity in regulating the process of cell differentiation.

Moreover, DIM inhibition of the cell cycle in the G1 phase of colorectal cancer cells (CRC) without alternating the cyclin D1 mRNA expression. The results suggested DIM modulated cyclin D1 expression at the translational level through some unknown mechanisms.

Dr. Zhang X and colleagues wrote in the final report, "the present study demonstrates that DIM downregulates cyclin D1 through triggering ER stress in human colorectal cancer cells".

In other words, DIM-induced cell cycle arrest of the colorectal cancer cells by modulating the G1 phase of the cell cycle.

Additionally, in order to reveal more information about the DIM anti-colorectal cancer activity, researchers elucidated the molecular mechanism of ATF3 induction by DIM in human CRC cells.

The DIM treatment induced apoptosis and induced ATF3 gene expression at protein and messenger RNA levels, involving the DNA repair of the damaged cells.

However, in colorectal cancer cells, deletion and point mutation of the ATF binding site (-23 to -16) abolished ATF3 promoter activation by DIM, leading to overexpression of ATF4 associated with the promotion metabolic homeostasis and cancer cell survival

In other words, DIM stimulates ATF3 expression in inducing apoptosis in human colorectal cells through inhibiting the ATF4-mediated pathway.

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane derived from I3C may be considered a supplement for the prevention and combined with primary therapy for the treatment of colorectal cancer, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Turmeric, the Potential Spice that Detoxes Your Lung Against Toxicity

Lung toxicity or pulmonary toxicity refers to the toxicity induced by the side effects of the lung in patients under chemotherapy or radiotherapy.

Most common drugs associated with lung toxicity used for the treatment of cancer include Arsenic trioxide (Trisenox®) Bleomycin (Blenoxane®)1 Idarubicin (Idamycin®).

However, lung toxicity is also caused by inhaling chemical compounds, the most famous (infamous) example is pulmonary toxicity due to asbestos. air pollution and airborne particulate matter produced by car traffic, overland traffic (trucks), industrial production facilities, and cigarette smoking.

Symptoms of lung damage or toxicity are a shortage of breath, breathlessness during exercise, fatigue dry cough Shortness of breath, particularly the symptoms that worsen when lying on your back breath.

Acute pulmonary toxicity, the damage to the lungs that resolves with a short period of time by addressing the cause.

Conventionally, most common treatments of lung toxicity are the use of
* Corticosteroids to decrease inflammation and relieve the cough and pain

*Narcotics to reduce pain medications and promote breathing center

* Oxygen therapy to increase oxygen in the blood and prevent shortness of breath.

In severe cases, patients may be sent to the hospital for Pulmonary (lung) rehabilitation.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

On finding a natural compound for the treatment of lung toxicity scientists evaluated the protective effects of curcumin on lipid peroxidation and antioxidants status in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) of a nicotine-treated animal model.

Wistar rats selected to the study were induced lung toxicity by subcutaneous injection of nicotine at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight (5 days a week, for 22 weeks) and following by administration of curcumin (80 mg/kg body weight) given simultaneously by intragastric intubation for 22 weeks.

Before injecting of curcumin, injection of nicotine rats showed the increased biochemical marker enzymes, lipid peroxides in BALF and BAL of accompanied by a significant decrease in the levels of antioxidant in the lung.

Following the treatment of curcumin, infected rats showed a significantly lowered the biochemical marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation and enhanced the antioxidant status.

Based on the results, researchers said, "The results of the present study suggest that curcumin exert its protective effect against nicotine-induced lung toxicity by modulating the biochemical marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation and augmenting antioxidant defense system".
In order to reveal more information about turmeric detoxed activity, researchers examined the protective role of curcumin and a synthetic analog of curcumin (BDMC-A) on nicotine-induced oxidative stress.

Male albino rats of Wistar strain selected to the study induced lung toxicity by subcutaneous injection of nicotine at a dose of 2.5 mg/kg body weight (five days a week, for 22 weeks) and followed by the treatment of curcuminoids given simultaneously by intragastric intubation for 22 weeks.

Nicotine-treated groups before injection of curcumin showed increased oxidative stress, as evidenced by lipid peroxidation indices.

Injection of curcumin and BDMC-A not only restored the antioxidant status which was decreased in the nicotine-treated group.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The present study suggests that BDMC-A exerts its protective effect by modulating the extent of lipid peroxidation and augmenting the antioxidant defense system".

Taken altogether, turmeric processed a high amount of bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention of lung toxicity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Plant-Based Bioactive Compound 3,3'-Diindolylmethane Kills Lung Cancer Cells in Vivo

Lung cancer is a medical and chronic condition associated with the alternation of the cells in the lung tissue.

Most cases of lung cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of lung tissue before striking into deeper layers.

At the early stage, due to the small size of the tumor, most patients are asymptomatic. However, at the advanced stage, besides the common symptoms shared with other types of cancer, the patients may also experience symptoms of difficult breathing, persistent cough and hoarseness, and chest pain.

Some patients may also vomit blood caused by the oversize tumor suppressing on the nearby blood vessels.

Lung cancer is diagnosed mostly in the elderly, particularly in people over 65 years of age.
The mortality rate of lung cancer is higher than the colon, breast, and prostate cancers combined.

According to the statistics, In Canada, the 5-year net survival for lung cancer is 17%.

In other words, on average, only 17% of people diagnosed with lung cancer will survive for at least 5 years after their diagnosis.

However, lung cancer at the early localized stage has 5 years of the survival rate of 60%.

Although there are many risk factors associated with the onset of lung cancer, smoking is considered epidemiologically a major cause of the disease onset.

Dr. Ozlü T, the lead scientist in the examination of smoking and lung cancer risk, "The association between cigarettes and lung cancer has been proven by large cohort studies. Tobacco use has been reported to be the main cause of 90% of male and 79% of female lung cancers. 90% of deaths from lung cancer are estimated to be due to smoking. The risk of lung cancer development is 20-40 times higher in lifelong smokers compared to non-smokers".

And, "After smoking cessation, the cumulative death risk from lung cancer decreases. Patients who continue smoking experience greater difficulties during cancer treatment. Stopping smoking may prolong survival in cancer patients, and also decreases the risk of recurrent pulmonary carcinoma".

3,3'-Diindolylmethane or DIM are phytochemicals derived from the digestion of indole-3-carbinol, belonging to the group of Indoles, found abundantly in broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, and kale, etc.

Researchers in the concern about the risk of inflammatory conditions of the lung such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that contributes to the onset of lung cancer risk, particularly lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC) examined the chemopreventive effects of BioResponse diindolylmethane (DIM).

The study included a mouse model of inflammation-driven LSCC induced by N-nitroso-trischloroethylurea (NTCU) and enhanced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), a potent pro-inflammatory agent contained in tobacco and tobacco smoke.

Before treatment of DIM, mice treated with the combination of NTCU and LPS had a 9-fold increase in the number of bronchioles with LSC.

Compared to mice treated with LPS alone, mice treated with NTCU plus LPS showed significantly increased expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines, accompanied by the increased expression of proteins associated with the production of pro-inflammation and cancer cells initiation.

Pretreatment of DIM at a concentration of 0 μmol/g diet or 2,460 ppm) to mice treated with NTCU plus LPS reduced the incidence of LSCC by 2-fold and suppressed activation/expression of proinflammatory and procarcinogenic proteins without affecting the expression of cytokines and p53, a tumor suppressive gene.

In other words, DIM blocked the development of LSCC through cytotoxicity and gene associated with tumor suppression.

In order to reveal more information about DIM anti-lung cancer property, researchers looked into the anticancer efficacy of 1,1-bis (3'-indolyl)-1-(p-biphenyl) methane (DIM-C-pPhC₆H₅) inhalation delivery alone and in combination with i.v. docetaxel in a murine model.

According to assays, the lung weight reduction in mice treated with the drug combination was 64% compared with 40% and 47% in mice treated with DIM-C-pPhC₆H₅ aerosol and docetaxel alone, respectively.

The combination treatment inhibited the lung cancer by decreased expression of proteins associated with the pro-inflammatory cytokines, cancer cells survival, and proliferation through stimulating the production of the new blood vessels.

Furthermore, the combination also increased expression of genes involved autophagy in the tumor formation, compared to the tumor cell counts from single-agent treatment and control groups.

Dr. Ichite N, the lead scientist said, "These results suggest that DIM-C-pPhC₆H₅ aerosol enhanced the anticancer activity of docetaxel in a lung cancer model by activating multiple signaling pathways".

Taken altogether, 3,3'-Diindolylmethane may be considered a supplement for the prevention and combined with primary medicine for the treatment of lung cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of 3,3'-diindolylmethane in form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
