Regular physical activity has long been found to associate to the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases but guidelines to support an older adult in engagement in regular physical activity (PA) to improve patients with Crohn's disease are lacking.
Crohn's disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) affecting any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus, as a result of adipocytokines and macrophage mediators in the perpetuated intestinal inflammatory process(4).
According to the University of Manitoba, regular walking may improve patients with Crohn's disease psychologically and physically without adversely affect disease activity(1).
In twelve subjects completed the 12-wk exercise program, all subjects showed statistically significant improvements after walking an average of 2.9 sessions/wk, at an average of 32.6 min/session, and for an average distance of 3.5 km/session(1).
Indeed, a low-intensity walking program from the University of Western Ontario also suggested that patients with Crohn's disease not only show improvement of quality of life without exacerbation in disease symptoms(2).
In a review also by the university of Western Ontario, although current pharmaceutical treatments are effective in controlling symptoms, patients continue to experience a reduced quality of life (QOL). CD patients engaged in physical activity. Exercise can benefit in decreased CD activity, reduced psychological stress and improved QOL(3).
In fact, regular walking enhance skeletal muscles in releasing biologically active myokines, exerting the direct anti-inflammatory effects and inhibiting the release of proinflammatory mediators from visceral fat of that showed to improve symptoms of Crohn's disease (CD)(4).

Bromelain Speeds Up Skin Healing with No Side Effects
Skin healing is a natural process to reconstruct the skin back to its originated stage after skin damage.
Skin is a large organ in the human body which only protects our body against foreign invaders but also serves as a third detoxed system after the liver and kidney.
Skin healing is depending on the size of the wound, the small size can be healed quickly without using any medication. However, the large size wound in most cases is required stitches.
Similar to wound healing, at the acute phase of infection, the macrophages of the immune first line of defense stimulating the blood clot to cover the wound or cut and production of proinflammatory cytokines to destroy foreign invaders.
In this phase, patients may experience symptoms of skin redness, tender, and swelling around the wound or cut.
Depending on the size of a skin wound, the next overlap stage is broken blood vessels in the wound is repaired and new tissue is grown followed by the creation of collagen, the fibers that form the foundation for new tissue.
This process continues until the skin is stronger or back to the original form.
In the acute phase of infection, overproduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines induced by immune response may cause damage to healthy cells, leading scar forming.
Additionally, any interruption of these processed may induce the formation of scars.
Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.
On finding a potential compound for speedup wound healing, researchers compared the structural integrity of bromelain (debridement enzyme) in the healing process.
The study included a combinational multiphasic delivery system that delivers biomolecules of bromelain through the fabrication of coaxial electrospinning of different biocompatible polymers.
In vitro, the fabricated scaffold delivery system sustained the release of debriding protease and its bioactive components in a timely fashion showed a significant effect in wound healing.
Furthermore, the fabricated scaffold used in debridement enzyme also promoted the wound healing process by its angiogenic potential through in vitro migration of endothelial cells and increased new capillaries from the existing blood vessel in response to wound healing.
Moreover, in vivo, studies also confirm the efficacy of the fabricated scaffold used in the delivery of bromelain.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "Our results, therefore, open up a new avenue for designing a bioactive combinational multiphasic delivery system to enhance wound healing".
In order to assess the role and clinical advantages of enzymatic debridement by a mixture of proteolytic enzymes enriched in Bromelain (Nexobrid®) on wound healing, researchers examined the mutual experience of applying enzymatic debridement in more than 500 adult and pediatric patients by the consensus panelists.
The statement included the answer of questions related to pain management and anesthesia, the timing of application, technique of application, after-intervention care, skin grafting after enzymatic debridement, blood loss, training strategies and learning curve and areas of future research needs.
According to the statements returned by the participant, 68 consensus statements, enzymatic debridement used showed a higher degree of consensus with a unanimous consensus in 88.2% of statements, and lowest degree of consensus of 70% in only 3 statements.
Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with the multiphasic delivery system may be considered supplements for the speedup wound healing, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of bromelain in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Regular Walking Reduces Risk of high triglyceride level Significantly
Regular physical activity has long been found to associate with the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases, the joint study led by Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, showed that regular physical activity (PA) induces desirable changes in plasma levels of high- and low-density lipoproteins (HDL and LDL, respectively) and triglycerides (TG), important risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases(4).
But the regular walking contribution of reduced risk of high triglyceride level in the younger and older elderly have been lacking, probably due to the effectiveness of modern diet restriction(2)(3) in syndrome controlling.
High Levels of Triglyceride is a condition of high levels of fat found in the blood. The University of South Carolina study blood lipid and lipoprotein adaptations to exercise suggested, exercise, including brisk walking or jogging, induced energy expenditure is also associated with TC and LDL-C reductions(1).
Regular walking showed to benefit a reduction of body fat stores, endogenous insulin requirements, and food intake and improved the ability to eliminate cholesterol and triglyceride concentrations by increasing the plasma high-density lipoprotein fraction(6).
Dr. Durstine JL and colleagues at the University of South Carolina, said, "Plasma triglycerides reductions are often observed after exercise training regimens requiring energy expenditure" but the health issues would fair better with "a comprehensive medical management plan that optimizes pharmacologic, reduced dietary fat intake, weight loss, and exercise interventions"(5).
Cardiovascular disease, a complication of high blood cholesterol and triglyceride kills more than 2,000 Americans every day. Approximately 60 million Americans have heart disease, according to statistic and literature, hyperlipidemia is a good document risk factor for Cardiovascular Disease(7).
Regular Walking also is found to Reduces Risk of Complication of Heart Disease in patients high triglyceride level. A study of 14 obese middle-aged women, after 24 weeks in the exercise program, exhibited a significant reduction of weight, body fat, body mass index, waist circumference, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, and triglycerides, whereas HDLC, a metabolic improvement factor, increased significantly(8).
Stanford University School of Medicine study of one hundred nineteen of the men and 112 of the women showed that regular exercise in overweight men and women is the best way to enhance the improvement in plasma lipoprotein levels, together with the adoption of a low-saturated-fat, low-cholesterol diet(9).
In support the effectiveness of regular walking in reduced levels of cholesterol and triglycerides, the study of a 10-week Nordic walking training program on the level of GH and LH in elderly women, insisted, regular walking significantly decrease total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides (all on a similar average by between 0.1 and 0.2%), creatine kinase (on average by 14%), lactate dehydrogenase (on average by 4%), C-reactive protein (on average by 24%), and body mass (on average by 5.7%) of that protect against menopause-related catabolic processes(10).
Taking all together, regular walking when used in conjunction with low-saturated-fat, low-cholesterol diet may promote a better result in a reduced level of triglycerides, and total cholesterol in compared with the baseline of all testing subjects.

Tomatoes Normalize the Blood Glucose Against Hyperglycemia on Diabetes
Hyperglycemia found in patients with diabetes is a condition of abnormally high blood glucose in the bloodstream.
Most cases of hyperglycemia is a result of poor diabetic control including unhealthy food and physical activity choices, medical conditions, nondiabetes medications, particularly in people who frequent skipping or not taking enough glucose-lowering medication.
* Foot Complications are the condition caused by nerves damage that controls the leg, leading to numbness and severe pain in the feet. in the blood but also can cause kidney failure.
* Kidney disease is a condition that can reduce the function of the kidney in filtering the waste in the blood.
* Hypertension is a condition of high blood pressure that can lead to an increase in the risk heart attack, stroke, eye problems.
* Stroke caused by abnormally high blood pressure and high blood glucose.
* Gastroparesis is a condition caused by the reduced function of vagus nerves that control the movement of food.
Some researchers suggested by the change of lifestyle and moderate exercise accompanied by taking your medicine daily, hyperglycemia is preventable in diabetes.
The Mayo Clinic Staff in the article " Diabetes management: How lifestyle, daily routine affect blood sugar", wrote "Healthy eating is a cornerstone of healthy living — with or without diabetes. But if you have diabetes, you need to know how foods affect your blood sugar levels".
"Physical activity is another important part of your diabetes management plan. When you exercise, your muscles use sugar (glucose) for energy. Regular physical activity also helps your body use insulin more efficiently".
And, "Insulin and other diabetes medications are designed to lower your blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone aren't sufficient for managing diabetes. But the effectiveness of these medications depends on the timing and size of the dose. Medications you take for conditions other than diabetes also can affect your blood sugar levels".
In other words, by following a healthy lifestyle including diet, moderate exercise, taking the required medicines hyperglycemia is controllable.
Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongs to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
With an aim to find a potential compound or whole food for the treatment of hyperglycemia, researchers examined the relationship between hyperglycemia and both serum carotenoids and intake of vegetables and fruits.
The study induced 133 subjects with a history of diabetes mellitus or hyperglycemia diagnosed using a 5.6% cutoff value for hemoglobin A1c (High HbA1c group, n = 151) recruited from among inhabitants of a rural area in Hokkaido, Japan.
High HbA1c between 5.7% and 6.4% is an indication of a higher risk of diabetes.
According to the returned of a questionnaire administered by public health nurses on the Intake frequencies of vegetables and fruits,* The odds ratio (OR) for high HbA1c was 0.49 on high intake frequency of carrot and pumpkin and the OR for DM was 1.21 (95% Cl: 0.79-1.84)
* There are no significant relationships between high HbA1c and intake frequencies of other vegetables and fruits.
* The ORs on high serum levels of alpha- and beta-carotenes, lycopene, beta-cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin and lutein were 0.38 (0.22-0.65), 0.35 (0.21-0.59), 0.57 (0.35-0.93), 0.35 (0.20-0.59), and 0.88 (0.54-1.46) for high HbA1c, respectively.
In other words, tomatoes may have a strong effect against the onset of hyperglycemia by normalizing the levels of HbA1c.
Based on the finding, researchers said, "Intake of vegetables and fruits rich in carotenoids might be a protective factor against hyperglycemia".
Taken altogether, tomatoes may be considered functional foods for the prevention and treatment of hyperglycemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of carotenoids in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

* The ORs on high serum levels of alpha- and beta-carotenes, lycopene, beta-cryptoxanthin and zeaxanthin and lutein were 0.38 (0.22-0.65), 0.35 (0.21-0.59), 0.57 (0.35-0.93), 0.35 (0.20-0.59), and 0.88 (0.54-1.46) for high HbA1c, respectively.

Bioactive Ingredient Alliin Protects the Heart Against Cardiomyocyte Hypertrophy
Cardiomyocyte hypertrophy is a medical condition of thickening of the heart muscle, leading to reduced function of the heart in pumping blood throughout the body.
The heart muscles made up the bulk of the heart’s mass control the heartbeat with high contractile strength and endurance.
Cardiac muscle also has a unique function to regulate the heart performance by spreading electrochemical signals all cells in the heart.
Damage of heart muscle has bee found to induce blood vessel diseases, such as coronary artery disease; heart rhythm problems (arrhythmias).
In some cases, head muscles associated disease also are found in patients with congenital heart defects.
Symptoms of include breathlessness with exertion or at rest, legs, ankles, and feet swelling. persistent fatigue, dizziness, lightheadedness, and fainting, particularly, in the symptoms of irregular heartbeats.
Conventionally, treatment of diseases associated with cardiomyocyte hypertrophy depending on the types of heart disease, including lowering blood pressure medication such as ACE inhibitors; lowing the heart rate, such as beta blockers, normalizing heart beating and balancing electrolytes in the body.
Making a healthy lifestyle change and moderate exercise may also recommend by your doctor.
Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, smoking can be considered one of the major prevalent factor.
Dr. Moustafa Al Hariri,, the lead scientist wrote, "Cardiovascular diseases are the leading causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Cigarette smoking remains a global health epidemic with associated detrimental effects on the cardiovascular system".
And, "(According to the results of the study) cigarette smoking exposure is associated with significant cardiovascular pathology such as cardiac hypertrophy, inflammation, pro-fibrotic, and atherogenic markers and aortic calcification in an animal model as assessed 1-month post exposure".
Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide, a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.
In the urgency to discover a natural compound for the treatment of heart disease, researchers examined alliin, the main constituent found in garlic in the prevention of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cell death.
The study included adult rat cardiomyocytes induce hypertrophy by Norepinephrine (NE) was pretreated with garlic skin and flesh extracts.
Before treatment of garlic skin and flesh extracts, exposure of cardiomyocytes to NE induced an increase in cell size and cell death, an indication of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy.
This increase of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cell death was prevented significantly upon treatment with garlic skin and flesh extracts.
Furthermore, the increased cells apoptosis and oxidative stress in cardiomyocytes by norepinephrine were also inhibited by the presence of the extract.
In the constituent analysis, the efficacy of anti cardiomyocyte hypertrophy and cell death may be attributed to the concentration of allicin and alliin.
In order to reveal more information about the alliin anti cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, the team from the SASTRA-Deemed University investigated the preventive effect of S-allyl cysteine sulfoxide (SACS) in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial ischemia in male Wistar rats.
The selected rat was were pretreated with SACS (40 and 80 mg kg(-1) body-weight) for 5 weeks. After the treatment period, followed by the ISO (150 mg kg(-1) body-weight) administered subcutaneously at intervals of 24 h for 2 days.
According to the tested assays, oral pretreatment with SACS significantly decreased the activity of HMG CoA reductase associated with the production of cholesterol and other isoprenoids and significantly increased the activity of LCAT involved converting free cholesterol into cholesteryl ester in ISO-induced rats.
Futhermore, pretreatment with SACS significantly decreased the levels of lipid peroxides in ISO-treated rats.
In concentration perspective, at a dose of 80 mg kg(-1) body-weight was more effective in normalizing all the biochemical parameters compared to the dose of 40 mg kg(-1) body-weight.
In other words, alliin inhibited the onset of myocardial ischemia caused by isoproterenol (ISO) in a doses dependent manner, in vitro and vivo.
Taken altogether, alliin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Regular Walking Reduces Symptoms and Risk of Gout
Regular physical activity has long been found to associate to the prevention of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic diseases, but regular walking contribution of health benefits of reduced symptoms of Gout in the younger and older elderly have been lacking, due to caregivers and physicians prefer to emphasize, in most cases in reduced intake of foods with rich of purines(4).
A Delphi exercise conducted by the University of Otago suggested that both physicians and patients agreed upon several key features of gout, including severity, functional results, and idiographic perception and patterns of symptoms(1).
Dr. Stewart S and colleagues at the joint study led by the Auckland University of Technology indicated the importance of footwear worn as walking shoes with good footwear characteristics can influence plantar pressure values and encourage a more efficient heel to toe gait pattern in people with gout(2)
The National Kidney foundation reminds "some people with gout do not have high uric acid levels, so it is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle no matter the level. Do not smoke, follow a well-balanced diet, maintain a healthy weight, and exercise"(5).
In fact, according to 2008 American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the risk of gout is lower in men who are more physically active, maintain ideal body weight, and consume diets enriched in fruit and limited in meat and alcohol(3). Unfortunately, exercise, including walking during a gout attack will worsen the condition by inducing more pain and lengthening the inflammation.
“Exercises to relieve gout should be done steady and cautiously as to avoid further irritation to the joints. The best exercises for gout are a range of motion types: strength training, stretching and building endurance. Yoga is an exercise that incorporates all four; however, there are other exercises that can be done individually also” According to the article of How to Exercise If You Have Gout(6).
