Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and progression and treatment of carbuncle, a skin disease, some scientists suggested.
Carbuncle is a collection of boils developed under the skin caused by bacterial infection of hair follicles in the induction of swelling.
Although the infections are most likely developing on the follicles of the hair, they can also appear on other areas of the body such as the buttocks, thighs, groin, and armpits.
Researchers suggested that people who are older age, obesity, poor hygiene, and poor health are most likely associated with increased risk of carbuncles.
However, chronic skin conditions, chronic kidney disease,.... and liver disease are also increased the prevalent risk of the infection.
According to University of Miami School of Medicine, "Skin infections account for a significant portion of dermatologic disease, often resulting in or as a consequence of a disruption in the skin's integrity" and " The infections presented herein include impetigo, ecthyma, folliculitis, carbuncles/furuncles, cellulitis, toxic shock syndrome, and ecthyma gangrenosum"(4).
The differentiation hinted that people with carbuncle are also susceptible to the onset of skin disease.
Green tea is a precious drink processed number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the searching of the natural ingredient to replace the use of antibiotics in the treatment of bacterial infection of carbuncle, researchers at the J the Rockefeller University found that epigallocatechin-3-gallate isolated from green tea extracts exerts a significant effect in inhibiting the activity of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), a leading candidate in exhibited risk of carbuncle.
Further analysis also suggested that application EGCG inhibited the Typhimurium type III protein effectors in restriction of bacterial invasion into tested cells.
The type III secretion system of Salmonella typhimurium is found to have a direct effect in the translocation of proteins into host cells in initiated infection.
Dr. Tsou LK, the lead authors said, "These results reveal additional dietary plant metabolites that can attenuate bacterial virulence and infection of host cells".
Some researchers at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, after lengthy searching for effective agent without inducing intolerant adverse effect for treatment of bacterial infection, found that green tea catechins, the major green tea polyphenols, shows antimicrobial activity against resistant pathogens, including Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and the standard strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa).
In compared of catechins, green tea extract, and methylxanthines in combination with gentamicin against standard and clinical isolates, inhibited bacterial activities by a minimum inhibitory concentration (MICs) of gentamicin in the range of 0.312 - 320 μg/mL and The MIC values of both types of catechins were 62.5 - 250 μg/ mL. in compared to no effect in methylxanthines application.
Interestingly, the dose of gentamicin was reduced substantially if adding doses of green tea extract and catechin according to the MICs.
These results indicated that green extract and major bioactive polyphenol catechin may be used alone or combined with gentamicin for treatment of bacterial infection, including carbuncle without inducing the g adverse effect.
Dr. Fazly Bazzaz BS, the lead scientist after taking into account of other co and confounders said, "green tea extract and catechins potentiated the antimicrobial action of gentamicin against some clinical isolates of S. aureus and standard P. aeruginosa strains" and "combinations of gentamicin with these natural compounds might be a promising approach to combat microbial resistance".
Additionally, the evaluate the antibacterial activity of the Indonesian water-soluble green tea extract, Camellia sinensis, against clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (MRSA) and multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR-P. aeruginosa conducted by theUniversity of Indonesia suggested
* The inhibition zone diameters of green tea extracts for S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA were 18.970 ± 0.287 mm, and (19.130 ± 0.250) mm respectively.
* The inhibition zone diameter for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa were (17.550 ± 0.393) mm and (17.670 ± 0.398) mm respectively.
*The MIC of green tea extracts against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA were 400 µg/mL and 400 µg/mL, respectively.
And
* The MIC for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa was 800 µg/mL, and 800 µg/mL, respectively.
Taking all together, green tea extract and its bioactive polyphenol catechin may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk and treatment of carbuncle caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus).
Howvwer, intake of green tea extract should be taken with extreme care as acute liver toxicity has been reported by numbers of medical literature.

Lycopene, Protects the Liver Cells Against the Risk of Hepatic Steatosis
The liver is the largest internal organ that filters the blood from the digestive tract, before passing them to the rest of the body.
The liver also plays an essential role to produce cholesterol to build a strong cell wall, produce steroid hormones and vitamin D and aid the digestive function in food absorption and detoxify chemicals and metabolizes drugs.
Hepatic steatosis is a medical condition that reduces the function of the liver caused by the accumulation of fat in the liver.
In other words, if the intrahepatic fat of your liver is more than 5% of liver weight, you are considered to have hepatic steatosis. Epidemiologically, over time, untreated hepatic steatosis can lead to liver metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and advanced forms of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease.
Hepatic steatosis has been found to induce complications in patients with obesity, alcohol intoxication and/or hepatic disorders.
Most common risk factors associated with the onset of hepatic steatosis are insulin resistance or diabetes, dyslipidemia, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, rapid weight loss, using hepatotoxic medications total parenteral nutrition (TPN).
The increased flux of fatty acids to the liver, de novo lipogenesis, and/or reduced clearance through β-oxidation or very-low-density lipoprotein secretion are some mechanisms that cause the accumulation of intrahepatic fat.
Out of many prevalent factors involved in the onset of hepatic steatosis, some researchers suggested that the promotion of the Western diet over the past few decades in the Western world may have a strong and negative impact that accelerates the incidence onset.
Dr. Michael D. Roberts, the lead scientist said, "Six weeks of WD feeding caused hepatic steatosis development as evidenced by the 2.25-fold increase in liver triacylglycerol content,...in adult Brown Norway rats".
And, "sub-chronic WD feeding appears to increase hepatic steatosis development over a 6-week period but only induces select inflammation-related liver transcripts, mostly acute phase response genes".
Lycopene is a phytochemical in the class of carotenoid, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,
Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.
On finding a potential compound for the prevention of liver disease, researchers examined the effects of lycopene on hepatic steatosis in an animal model.
In a model of high-fat diet rats, lycopene not only showed a significant effect against the development of steatohepatitis but also inhibited nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) in the promotion of the early stage of liver cancer through its antioxidant activity.
In rats induced NAFLD by a hypercholesterolemic and high-fat diet, according to the tested analysis, after 7 weeks, there are clear differences in the classical antioxidant biomarkers and metabolic pattern associated with the inhibition of NAFLD between the diet and intake of lycopene from tomato juice.
Interestingly, tomato juice administration partially reverted the metabolic pattern from a high-fat diet to a normal diet in metabolites without exhibiting the redox state.
Taken altogether, lycopene found in tomato may be considered supplements for the improvement of liver metabolism against the risk liver disease, pending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea Extract EGCG, A Novel Topical Ingredient for Cold Sore, Scientists Found
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and and treatment of cold sore (herpes simplex labialis infection), some scientists suggested.
Cold sore is a common skin disease characterized by tiny blisters that develop on the lips or around the mouth caused by the infection of herpes simplex virus strain HSV-1 mostly.
Believe it or not, over 80% of the North American population have herpes 1 virus living permanently in their body without causing any health problem. However, the dormant virus can quickly multiple to affect the skin on the lips if the immune system is weakened or triggered by certain conditions such as prolonged stress, a digestive disorder.
The virus is very contagious, anyone who comes to direct contact with an infected person can easily be infected.
Most common symptoms of cold sore include sensations, tingling,,...... pain, or numbness on the lip and skin surround the lip.
Cold sore that appears inside the mouth may be troublesome, as the condition interferes with food injection and speech.
In a number of severe cases, herpes 1 virus may infect the eye, brain, leading to vision loss and certain brain infectious diseases.
Conventional antiviral medicine used for the treatment of cold sore may be effective such as Zovirax, Famvir,..... and valacyclovir, but they can induce certain side effects including digestive discomforts,..., headache, dizziness,.... and tiredness.
In the reaffirmed the efficacy of catechins from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis) therapeutic effect on herpes simplex virus infections in vitro and in vivo, researchers conducted a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial with 40 participants.
The aim of the joint study is to clinically evaluate a topical proprietary formulation containing lipophilic catechins (AverTeaX, Camellix, LLC, Evans, GA, USA) on recurrent herpes labialis.
In compared to vehicle group treated with 100% glycerin USP, CVS Pharmacies, Inc., Woonsocket, RI, USA), topical application of AverTeaX applied six to eight times daily showed a strong reduction in clinical episode duration (median 4.5 days vs. 9 days) and shortened blistering and ulceration stages within an episode from a median of 3 days to 1 day.
According to the median quality-of-life scores, AverTeaX treated group demonstrated in respect to duration of itching, from a median of 4 days to 1 day, and duration until symptom-free, from a median of 8 days to 4 days.
Interestingly, both groups displayed similar in median scores for itching, pain, burning, swelling, bleeding, and stress.
No adverse effects were found in both groups, during the term of study.
Based on these results, Dr. Zhao M, after taking into account of other co-founders, said, "AverTeaX formulation containing lipophilic catechins effectively inhibited herpes simplex labialis infection with clinical significance".
Additionally, in further analysis to address the green tea extract in reduced expression of HSV in precipitated risk of skin infection, including cold sore and reconfirmed EGCG anti-oxidant activity in inhibited number of plaques in HIV-infected cultured cells, a study to evaluate the efficacy of modified EGCG palmitoyl-EGCG (p-EGCG), as a topical antiviral agent for Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV-1) infections was conducted.
p-EGCG is not toxic to cultured Vero cells, according to the cell viability and cell proliferation assays
According to the results, the application of p-EGCG increased the effectiveness of EGCG as an antiviral agent.
In compared to EGCG topically applied to the skin, one of the primary tissues infected by HSV, green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with palmitate was a more potent inhibitor of Herpes Simplex Virus 1 (HSV-1).
Observation of other assays used in the experiment, p-EGCG concentrations of 50 µM or higher exerted linearly in blocking the production of infectious HSV-1 particles.
This efficacy suggested that p-EGCG may be considered as a potent and natural ingredient in inhibited HSV-1 adsorption to Vero cells.
Thus, p-EGCG may provide a novel treatment for HSV-1 infections, including cold sore.
The findings suggested that topically green tea used a combination of other herbal ingredients or green tea extract used alone may have a therapeutic potential in the treatment of cold sore caused by herpes simplex virus HSV-1 infection)

Cooked Tomato's Lycopene Protects Protein, Lipid and Cell Damage Against Oxidative Stress in Human Studies
Oxidative stress is a condition characterized by overexpression of free radicals in the body.
In other words, oxidative stress is a result of the imbalance of the ratio of free radicals and antioxidants caused by abundant free radicals and low levels of antioxidant enzymes produced by the body.
Free radical is an unstable atom with a single electron on the outermost ring. Given to its nature, free radical readily donate or intercept an electron from another atom, leading a chain of the free radical cascade that cannot be stopped until all single electron is paired or inhibited by antioxidants.
The antioxidant is a stable atom with a function to inhibit oxidation, come either from dietary sources or produced by the body.
Contrast to general belief, free radical is also needed in moderated amount for the function of the heart muscle to pump blood such as NO for vasodilation and increasing blood flow.
According to studies, in cancer, oxidative stress has been found to induce cytotoxicity used in chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer by killing cancer cells.
However, in a healthy person, oxidative stress is harmful because it not only induces cells' lipid and protein oxidation but also causes the change of cell DNA, leading to diseases associated with oxidative stress including cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.
Ozone, certain pesticides, and cleaners, cigarette smoke, radiation, pollution are some of the risk factors associated with the increased risk of oxidative stress.
Based on the oxidative stress theory of aging oxidative stress, oxidative stress is also the main culprit contributed to aging in humans.
Dr. Ilaria Liguori, the lead scientist said, "Aging is a process characterized by the progressive loss of tissue and organ function. The oxidative stress theory of aging is based on the hypothesis that age-associated functional losses are due to the accumulation of RONS-induced damages".
Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belongs to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.
With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress researchers examined the efficacy of lycopene a carotenoid commonly found in tomatoes and tomato products.
In a total of 23 healthy postmenopausal women, 50-60 years old, provided blood samples at baseline and following a one-month lycopene-depletion period according to the St. Michael 's Hospital, Toronto, ON, Canada. PARTICIPANTS AND STUDY DESIGN.
Compared to the blood sample before and after experiment samples, a one-month lycopene-depletion period diet showed a significantly decreased antioxidant profile including serum lycopene, lutein/zeaxanthin and glutathione peroxidase (GPx).
Furthermore, the diet also depressed levels of antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), significantly in the participants while increasing levels of lipid and protein oxidation.
In other words, tomatoes restrictive diet increased the risk of diseases associated with oxidative stress in postmenopausal women due to the increase of ROS and depletion of antioxidants in the tissues.
In order to reveal more information about the tomato effect against oxidative stress, researchers conducted a study to determine whether lycopene would act as an antioxidant to decrease oxidative stress parameters.
The study included a total of 60 postmenopausal women, 50-60 years old, following a 1-month washout without lycopene consumption,.
After a month, the participants were randomly divided into groups with 15 members each consumed either : (1) regular tomato juice, (2) lycopene-rich tomato juice, (3) tomato Lyc-O-Mato lycopene capsules, or (4) placebo capsules, twice daily for total lycopene intakes of 30, 70, 30, and 0 mg/day respectively for 4 months.
According to the tested assays, for 4 months significantly increased serum lycopene compared to placebo.
Moreover, the total serum antioxidant capacity (TAC) and decreasing lipid and protein peroxidation were found to increase substantially in the groups treated with consumed juice or lycopene capsules compared to the placebo group.
Taken altogether, tomatoes and its major bioactive compound lycopene may be considered remedies for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green tea and Its Polyphenols for Prevention and Treatment of Colitis
Green tea may have a therapeutic and profound effect on reduced risk and treatment of colitis, some scientists suggested.
Green tea, a precious drink processes a numbers of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.
Colitis is a medical condition characterized by inflammation of the inner lining of the colon as a result of infection, inflammation caused by other bowel diseases.
In the comparison of the effects of green tea extract epigallocatechin-3-gallate, EGCG and
Piper nigrum (L.) alkaloid piperine in mice colitis induced by oral administration of dextran sodium sulfate randomly assigned to a daily oral administration of 6.9 mg/kg body weight EGCG or Piper nigrum (L.) piperine (2.9 mg/kg body weight) or the combination of the both with piperine used in the combination to enhance the bioavailability of EGCG and untreated controls, researchers at the Münster University Hospital showed that mice group treated with the combination demonstrated a significant effect in reduced weight loss and improved overall survival in compared to non treatment group through inducing lesser histological damages to the colon and reduction of tissue concentrations of malondialdehyde, an indication of decreased oxidative stress.
According to neutrophils accumulation assay, the application of green tea EGCG and piperine displayed a strong activity in reduced ROS expression in the induction of lipid peroxidation through activation of overexpression of antioxidant enzymes such as superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GPO).
Further examining also found that the combined ingredients induced an also reduced the production of proinflammatory cytokines.
Dr. Brückner M, after taking into account of other con-founders suggested, "the concept of anti-inflammatory properties of EGCG being generally beneficial in the DSS-model of colitis".
Interestingly, in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced mouse model of colitis, application of green tea EGCG (3.2 mg/g) as a source of drinking fluid for 3 days exerted a significant effect in ameliorated of colon shortening and spleen enlargement caused by injection of DSS and modulated the production of levels inflammatory cytokines of of interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) and
Interleukin 6 (IL-6), which plays an important role in the regulation of immune and inflammatory responses to acute and chronic infections.
Furthermore, green tea oral administration also decreased levels of tumor necrosis factor-α, a cell-signaling protein in activated systemic inflammation and pro-inflammatory cytokines in the acute phase of reaction and inhibited ROS expression colonic lipid peroxides through antioxidant activity.
Moreover, the bioactive polyphenol EGCG also improved the small intestinal function in reduced leaky gut, associated with the risk of increasing the number of harmful compounds entering the bloodstream.
Further analysis of green tea efficacy in the treatment of colitis, researchers discovered that green tea EGCG also induced weight loss through the binding on the surface of the small intestine in decreased protein and lipid digestion.
In additional evaluation of green tea polyphenols (GrTP, EGCG) and sulfasalazine activity in colitis induced by injection of Dextran sodium sulfate (DSS) to cause deficiency of IL-10 in BALB/c mice, researchers at the University of Kentucky, postulated that the combined administration significantly ameliorates colonic damage and histological scores in a similar manner (GrTP vs. DSS p < 0.05; EGCG, sulfasalazine vs. DSS p < 0.01) and decrease expression of the inflammatory markers TNFα (3-fold), IL-6 (14-fold) as mentioned above.
Importantly, treated mice with both green tea polyphenols (GrTP, EGCG) and sulfasalazine also expressed a huge improvement in antioxidant capacity in inhibition of ROS in an initiated chain reaction to facilitate of plagues formation and inflammation, observed by the activity of bio maker lectin levels.
The information findings insisted that green tea with abundantly selective bioactive polyphenols may be considered as a functional food for the prevention and treatment of colitis. However, the intake of green tea supplements should be taken with exceptional care as acute liver toxicity was reported in numbers of cases.

How to Prevent Over Expression of Melanin in Induction of Age Spots Naturally, US National Library of Medicine Studies Reveal
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced age spots caused by overexpression of melanin, some scientists suggested.
People with a light complexion and lots of sun exposure over the years are found to associate with higher prevalent risk.
The results of this investigation were carried out by some worldwide institutes, including the Chongqing Institute of Forensic Science.
You can view the publication through some online medical literature if you want to know more about these subjects.
An age spot is the overexpression of skin pigment in the surface of the skin, probably caused by Skin aging, sun exposure, or other forms of ultraviolet (UV) light exposure,...
Age spots may also be caused by a hormone imbalance in the induction of increased production of melanin, which is responsible for darkening the skin.
Green tea is a precious drink processed number of health benefits and known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the investigation of Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), used as a constituent of cosmetic products, researchers found that application EGCG exerts a significant effect as an antioxidant in exhibited anti-pigmentation properties.
Through measuring hyaluronic acid synthase (HAS) and hyaluronidase (HYAL) gene expression, EGCG also promoted skin hydration, through increased the expression of the natural moisturizing factor-related gene, including Hyaluronan synthase (HAS)-1, and (HAS)-2.
HA synthase enzymes (HAS) a molecule with the function of synthesized hyaluronan (HA) plays an essential role in protected skin fibroblasts against apoptosis, due to environmental stress exposure.
Hyaluronidase ((HYAL) is an enzyme that cleaves HA.
In UVB irradiation conditions, the application of EGCG protected the expression of decreased level of HYAL found in all tissues with 50% present in skin, thus reducing HaCaT cell's information of free radicals and decreased in cell viability.
Melanin produced in melanocytes, underexposure UVB irradiation with an aim to protect skin cells against UVB radiation damage.
Years of frequent and prolonged sun exposure and overexpression of melanin may induce aging spot
In other words, EGCG not only exhibited a strong effect in reduced over secretion of melanin but also enhanced cells integrity against forming of the aging spots due to exposure UVB irradiation
HaCaT widely used in scientific research of epidermis is a spontaneously immortalized human keratinocyte cell line isolated from adult human skin.
Dr. Kim E, the lead authors said, "EGCG might be used as a cosmetic ingredient with positive effects on skin hydration, moisture retention, and wrinkle formation, in addition to radical scavenging activity and reduction of melanin generation".
Furthermore, in confirmation of green tea efficacy in reduced overexpression of skin pigment by evaluating the fatty acids contents in the green tea oil, researchers indicated that all 3 major fatty acids isolated from oil were oleic acid (87.93±0.19%), stearic (5.14±0.06%) and palmitic (5.08±0.12%) acids.
A single application of each fatty acid demonstrated strong protection of the cell viabilities through their antioxidant activity.
Moreover, the antioxidant activity of 3% tea seed oil exerted greater cellular protection with cell viability of 90.38±7.77% in compared to other concentrations.
Some researchers suggested that green tea polyphenols and theophylline as polyphenol nanoparticles (PNs) may reduce skin aging through nanoparticle formation process involved copolymerization of monomers through exhibiting its free radicals scavenging activities.
Taking all together, green tea and its bioactive compound such as EGCG may be used as a natural and functional food for reduced overexpression of melanin and skin pigment in the induction of age spots.

Navy Bean Promotes the Gut Health
The colon formed part of the digestive system is also called the large intestine which plays a critical role in removing water, salt, and forming a stool through its muscles lines.
There are over 100 trillion live in the colon that maintains a healthy balance with the body.
In a normal or healthy individual, gut microbiota besides protecting the host against pathogens that cause infectious disease, it also has strong imparts in some specific function in the host, including
* Nutrient metabolism is a process that absorbs end products of food digestion such as monosaccharides, glucose from carbohydrates, monoacylglycerol and long-chain fatty acids from lipids, and small peptides and amino acids from protein.
* Xenobiotic metabolism is the action that protects the host against chemicals that affect normal metabolism.
* Drug metabolism is the process to alter chemical of a drug that may cause harm to the body
* Gut microbiota also has been found to protect gut mucosal barrier in preserving the ability to absorb nutrients.
* Gut microbiota immunomodulatory activity reduced the risk of disease associated with chronic inflammation of the digestive tract, such as bowel inflammatory disease.
However, there are several factors that may have strong impacts on gut microbiota. Dr. Sai Manasa Jandhyala, the lead scientist wrote, " (1) the mode of delivery (vaginal or cesarean); (2) diet during infancy (breast milk or formula feeds) and adulthood (vegan-based or meat-based); and (3) use of antibiotics or antibiotic like molecules that are derived from the environment of the gut commensal community.
And "A major concern of antibiotic use is the long-term alteration of the normal healthy gut microbiota and horizontal transfer of resistance genes that could result in the reservoir of organisms with a multidrug-resistant gene pool".
The small, white navy bean, also called pea bean or haricot, popular in both dry and green forms, is very popular in Britain and the US, native to Peru. It is now grown and consumed across the world, due to its numerous health benefits.
On finding a natural compound for the improvement of colon health, researchers examined the effect of cooked navy bean (NB) or black bean (BB) flours on the colonic microenvironment in the gut.
The study included C57Bl/6 mice were fed diets supplemented with 20% cooked navy bean (NB) or black bean (BB) flours or an isocaloric basal diet control (BD) for 3 weeks.
According to the tested analysis* Both NB and BB similarly altered the fecal microbiota community structure by increasing the abundance of carbohydrate fermenting bacteria such as Prevotella, S24-7, and Ruminococcus flavefaciens.
* Both beans also enhanced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production (microbial-derived carbohydrate fermentation products) by activating the colonic expression of the SCFA receptors GPR-41/-43/-109a associated with reduced colonic inflammation.
* Furthermore, parameters associated with the improvement of the colon health were also enhanced by the administration of black and navy beans, including the biomarkers of colon barrier integrity such as crypt height, mucus content, cell proliferation, and goblet cell number.
The results strongly suggested that the navy bean improves colon health by increasing the expression of gut "good" microorganisms.
Based on the findings, researchers said, " Overall, NB and BB improved baseline colonic microenvironment function by altering the microbial community structure and activity and promoting colon barrier integrity and function; effects which may prove beneficial in attenuating gut-associated diseases".
Taken altogether, the cooked navy bean may be considered a remedy for the improvement of the colon health, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
