Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect on reducing onset. progression and treatment of Alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency in the induced fibromyalgia, some scientists suggested.
Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic condition characterized by muscle and soft tissue pain, affecting over 10 million (3.6% of the population) people in the US alone.
Serum of alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) impregnated in most parts of the body circulates in our body in high concentrations with function in the inhibition of the enzymes of inflammatory cells.
Alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency is a genetic disorder inherited from the parent characterized by of the inability of the body to produce a protein called alpha-1 anti-trypsin (AAT), leading to inflammation of fatty tissue under the skin (subcutaneous), and at other parts of the body, including the joints, the major cause of fibromyalgia.
Additionally, deficiency of AAT enynes also can cause liver and lung damage, leading to poor function of the organ and increasing the risk of cirrhosis, COPD, liver and lung cancer.
Although the deficiency is presented since birth, most patients with the mutated gene do not experience any symptoms until the age of 50 or 60.
According to the statistic, AAT deficiency is one of the most common inherited disorders among Caucasians compared to other race groups.
Approximately over 1% of patients diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) processes the alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency gene
In the study of the effect of serum of alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) and risk of fibromyalgia (FM), researchers at the Hospital Valle del Nalón found that deficiency of AAT has been found in numbers of patients with fibromyalgia (FM) with severe hereditary.
Functional magnetic resonance imaging of these patients revealed significantly greater activity in pain-sensitive areas of the brain in response to cutaneous stimuli, which may be another evidence for a physiological explanation for FM pain.
Furthermore, patients with FM also were found to consist of abnormal profiles of inflammation markers in biopsies analysis.
The results suggested that these patients may have an imbalance level of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory substances, in the soft body tissues caused by alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency.
Due to surprising findings, Dr. Blanco LE, the lead author, after taking into account of other confounders, said, "identification of genetic, familial, and environmental risk factors suspected to participate in the FM syndrome development (may be necessary) to determine the gene frequency of AAT deficiency alleles in FM patients".
Green tea, bioactive polyphenols EGCG, according to the Dr Helieh S in animal model induced by alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) (α1-antitrypsin) deficiency exerted a significant anti-inflammatory effect in inhibited the PI3K/Akt signalling pathway with function in activated pro-inflammatory factors through the innate immune response involved in pathogen killing, antigen processing and immune cell survival.
Moreover, green tea EGCG application also enhanced antioxidant activity not only through its antioxidant profiles but also stimulated the production of the body's natural antioxidants in reduced inflammatory response through nitric oxide (NO) and inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) expression, observed by Griess reagent and western blotting.
The evidence indicated that green tea EGCG may have a profound effect in reducing serum alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency in initiated the onset of fibromyalgia
The above differentiation were supported by the review of Chronic Inflammatory Diseases and Green Tea Polyphenol, by Dr. Helieh S. Oz at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.
According to the authors, green tea polyphenols are potent antioxidants with important roles in regulating vital signaling pathways in activated inflammatory responses by attenuating nuclear factor (NF)-kappaB IKK, NF-κB in facilitated innate- and adaptive immune responses, cell death and inflammation and cytokines like TNFα, inflammatory markers and cyclooxygenase-2 in elevated symptoms of inflammation and pain.
Dr. Helieh S. in the summary said, "green tea polyphenols (GrTPs) are potent antioxidants with important roles in regulating vital signaling pathways" and "these comprise transcription nuclear factor-kappa B mediated I kappa B kinase complex pathways, programmed cell death pathways like caspases and B-cell lymphoma-2 (through regulating the cytochrome c release from the mitochondria) and intervention with the surge of inflammatory markers like cytokines and production of cyclooxygenase-2"".
Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may be considered as a functional food in ameliorated serum alpha1-Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency effect in initiated the onset of fibromyalgia. However, the intake of green tea supplements should be taken with extreme care due to recent medical reports of acute liver toxicity.

Broccoli Sprout Inhibits Parameters Associated with Sickle Cell Anemia
Anemia is a medical condition associated with a lack of healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood.
Iron deficiency anemia is one of the most common anemia, caused by poor iron levels in the blood, leading to the reduced delivery of oxygen throughout your body.
A long-term deficiency of folate and vitamin B-12 plays a critical role in the production of healthy red blood cells associated with the increased risk of Amenia.
Also, people with the mutated gene inherited from the parent are at substantial risk of the disease. The Duliajan College study suggested that certain genes have been found to induce anemia.
Sickle cell anemia (SCD), a genetic preposition form of anemia is a condition associated with not enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen throughout your body.
The red blood cells in sickle cell anemia patines are rigid and sticky with the shapes of sickles or crescent moons.
The normal red blood cells live for about 120 days comapred to the sickle cells that die in 10 to 20 days. In other words, the inability of the body to replace the cell that dies rapidly with new blood cells is a cause of sickle cell anemia.
According to the statistics, provided by the CDC, approximately 100,000 Americans are living with SCD. Ethnically, 1 out of every 365 Black or African-American births, 1 out of every 16,300 Hispanic-American births and 1 in 13 Black or African-American birth are sickle cell trait (SCT) carriers.
Conventionally, except for bone marrow transplant, treatments of sickle cell anemia are to improve quality of life, by relieving symptoms and preventing complications.
Broccoli is a mustard/cabbage plant, belong to the family Brassicaceae. It has large flower heads, usually green in color and the mass of flower heads is surrounded by leaves and evolved from a wild cabbage plant on the continent of Europe.
With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of inherited blood disorder, researchers examined the effects of broccoli sprout homogenate (BSH) containing sulforaphane and sulforaphane in the activation of NRF2 on sickle cell disease (SCD).
Nrf2 is a protein that processes the function in the regulation of the expression of antioxidant enzymes against oxidative damage triggered by injury and inflammation.
According to the tested analysis, sulforaphane (SFN) significantly increased the expression of NRF2 associated with the increase of antioxidant enzymes that inhibits oxidative stress such as HMOX1, NQO1, and HBG1 in a dose-dependent manner.
In adults with SCD,
* BSH consumption showed no adverse effects.
* BSH consumption increase the mean relative whole blood mRNA levels NRF2 target HMOX1
* Furthermore, BSH injection increased mean relative mRNA levels of the NRF2 target HBG1, compared to the baseline at end of treatment, without affecting the levels of HbF protein.
In other words, BSH displays a similar effect compared to that of sulforaphane in the promotion of the production of antioxidant enzymes against sickle cell disease (SCD).
Based on the findings, researchers said, "BSH, in the provided doses, is safe in stable SCD patients and may induce changes in gene expression levels".
Taken altogether, broccoli sprout processed abundantly SFN may be considered a functional food for the treatment of SCD, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of SFN in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green tea, The Beverage Which Ameliorates Symptoms and Treats Depression and Anxiety Disorders
Green tea may have a potential and positive effect in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety stress, some scientists suggested.
Depression and anxiety disorders are psychological illnesses. Depression disorder is not the same as anxiety disorder however they often share symptoms similar to those of anxiety.
The causes of depression may be attributed to a number of factors such as genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief or difficult life circumstances.
In anxiety, risk factors that associated with the early onset of the disease are family history, long-term under stressful situations and excessive alcohol drinking and use of tobacco, particularly in people who had a childhood history of being abused.
The Mayo Clinic in the classification of anxiety suggested that women are twice as likely as men to experience a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).
In the comparison of the symptoms of depression and anxiety, one may find several overlaps, including symptoms of sleep problems, trouble concentrating, and fatigue.
Dr. Kathleen Smith, Ph.D. in the classification of the different depression and anxiety wrote, "There are, however, some distinguishing features. People with depression move slowly, and their reactions can seem flattened or dulled. People with anxiety tend to be more keyed up, as they struggle to manage their racing thoughts. Another distinguishing feature is the presence of fear about the future in people with anxiety. Depressed people who do not have anxiety are less likely to be fraught with worry about future events, as they are often resigned to believing that things will continue to be bad. In other words, they may predict the future based on how they feel in the moment".
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
The National University Health System, Singapore which launched the study to examine the association between long-term tea consumption and depressive and anxiety symptoms in community-living elderly including 614 elderly aged 60 years and above, who were free of dementia and cognitive impairment suggested base on the Information on tea consumption,
* 59% of the subjects who participated in the study had consumed tea for over 15 years.
* Long-term tea consumption was significantly associated with a reduced odds of having depressive and anxiety symptoms, after adjusting for demographics (i.e., age, gender, education, and ethnicity), comorbid conditions (i.e., heart disease, diabetes, stroke, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia) and long-term coffee consumption.
The findings suggested that long-term tea consumption was associated with reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms among community-living elderly. and that may be the reason that tea's bioactive compounds are used in promoting mental health in aging.
Furthermore, in the evaluate the anti-stress effect of green tea with lowered caffeine, low-caffeine green tea, on humans in a single-blind group comparison and participants (n=20) randomly assigned to low-caffeine or placebo tea groups, researchers showed that according to the state-trait anxiety inventory test.
* The subjective stress in participants was significantly lower in the low-caffeine-group than in the placebo-group during pharmacy practice.
* The level of salivary α-amylase activity, a stress marker, increased significantly after daily pharmacy practice in the placebo group but not in the low-caffeine-group.
These results suggested that the ingestion of low-caffeine green tea suppressed the excessive stress response of students.
Moreover, in the review of a systematically searched on PubMed database and selected studies by predefined eligibility criteria, researcher indicated that in out of 21 studies selected, 4 of which were randomized controlled trials, 12 cross-over studies (both assessed with an adapted version of the DELPHI-list), 4 were cross-sectional studies and one was a cohort study
* Green tea intake exerts a significant influence on the psychopathological symptoms (e.g. reduction of anxiety), cognition (e.g. benefits in memory and attention) and brain function (e.g. activation of working memory seen in functional MRI).
* The effects of green tea are not attributed to a single constituent of the beverage, but the combined influence of both caffeine and l-theanine, whereas separate administration of either substance was found to have a lesser impact.
Taken all together, there is no doubt, standard green tea may be considered a functional food in ameliorating the symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders.

Antioxidants Lycopene In reducing Risk of Rectal Cancer in Women
Cancer is a group of chronic and medical associated with abnormal cell growth in a specific tissue of an organ, due to the alternation of DNA.
A primary tumor or original tumor is a tumor first arose and progression to yield a cancerous mass.
Cancer cells that grow to its tumor size, can invade and kill their neighbor cells by producing abnormal or excessive signaling chemicals (hormones or cytokines) which upset the normal chemical balance and alter the metabolic pathways, leading to disordered and violent cellular behavior.
At the early stage, due to the small size of the tumor, most patients are asymptomatic.
Rectum formed part of the colon acts as a temporary storage site for feces, before eliminating them as feces.
Rectal cancer is a malignant tumor that starts from the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissues of the rectum.
Most common symptoms of rectum cancer are a change in your bowel habits, such as diarrhea, constipation or more frequent bowel movements, dark or red blood in the stool, mucus in stool, abdominal pain and painful bowel movements accompanied by the general symptoms found in other types of cancer.
The exact causes of rectum cancer are unidentified. However, rectum cancer shares the similar risk of factors of colorectal cancer, including the increase of age, family and personal history, unhealthy diets such as red meat and processed foods, physical inactivity, overweight or obesity, alcohol, and smoking.
Some researchers suggested that the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past few decades may be correlated to the increased risk of rectum cancer.
Dr. Teresa T. Fung, the lead scientist said, "Results from investigations using a priori dietary patterns (i.e., diet quality scores) and a posteriori methods, which identify existing eating patterns (i.e., principal component analysis), continue to support the benefits of a plant-based diet with some dairy as a means to lower the risk of colorectal cancer, whereas a diet high in meats, refined grains, and added sugar appears to increase risk".
Lycopene is a phytochemical found in tomato in the class of carotenoid, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,
Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.
On finding a potential compound for the treatment of rectal cancer, researchers examined the role of lycopene as a chemopreventive agent.
The study included 952 rectal cancer cases and 1,205 controls of a population-based case-control study from Northern California and Utah conducted between September 1997 and February 2002.
According to the returned questionnaires based on the detailed diet history, medical history, and lifestyle factors,
* For women, the relative to the highest level of intake, low intake of dietary lycopene suggested that lycopene is associated with a reduced risk of rectal cancer with the odds ratio (OR) = 1.7. In other words, the risk of rectal cancer decreased depending linearly to the amount of dietary lycopene intake daily and regularly.
* Dietary antioxidants including lycopene were not associated with rectal cancer risk in men.
* Compared to lycopene dietary alpha-, beta-, and gamma-tocopherol were associated with an approximately two-fold increased risk of rectal cancer in women.
More precisely, not all members work synergistically to a reduced risk of rectal cancer.
Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "Associations differed by estrogen status for beta-carotene, lycopene, and vitamin E. These results suggest that ... lycopene may modestly reduce the risk of rectal cancer in women".
Taken altogether, lycopene found in tomato may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of rectal cancer in women, pending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Berry Extract (Cranberry) Inhibits β-Amyloid Aggregation
Amyloid beta (Aβ or Abeta) is the main component of the amyloid plaques that cause the gradual death of neurons, leading to the onset of Alzheimer's disease.
Alzheimer's disease is a common form of dementia or neurodegenerative disease found in the elderly.
Alzheimer's disease is a type of dementia correlated with major reductions of neurons to the respective target areas, named after German physician Alois Alzheimer.
According to the statistics, the disease is most prevalent in the elderly. Approximately 5.7 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer's. 15.9 million family caregivers provide an estimated 18.2 billion hours and $230 billion to people with dementia worldwide.
Alzheimer's disease is caused by a combination of genetic, lifestyle and environmental factors that affect the neurons of the brain over time. However, less 10% of patients with AD are associated with a genetic preposition. Patients with such mutated genes on chromosomes 21, 14, and 1are virtually guaranteed to develop the disease.
More precisely, Alzheimer's disease is caused by the gradual loss of neuron functioning that usually starts with the early symptom of the difficulty of remembering recent events and worsens over time.
Alzheimer's destroys brain cells, causing cognitive modalities severe enough to affect language communication, memory, lifelong hobbies or social life. Alzheimer's gets worse over time, and it is fatal.
Dementia is a group of neurodegenerative diseases caused by a decline in mental ability in the older population that is severe enough to interfere with daily life, such as memory loss.
Compared to dementia, neurological disorders are a class of brain disease associated with reduced function of the brain, depending on the region of the neurons that were affected.
Dr. Rudolph E. Tanzi said, "The inheritance of AD exhibits a dichotomous pattern. On one hand, rare mutations in APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 virtually guarantee early-onset (<60 years) familial AD, which represents ∼5% of AD. On the other hand, common gene polymorphisms, such as the ε4 and ε2 variants of the APOE gene, can influence susceptibility for ∼50% of the common late-onset AD".
And, " These four genes account for 30%–50% of the inheritability of AD".
Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.
On finding a potential compound for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, researchers examined the effect of cranberry extract (CE) on the Alzheimer's disease (AD)associated with the aggregation and toxicity of proteins β-amyloid (Aβ).
The study is to compare the effects of berry crude extracts (CE) that yield anthocyanins-free (ACF) and anthocyanins-enriched (ACE) extracts.
According to the tested analysis, the berry ACEs (at 100 μg/mL) showed superior free radical scavenging, reactive carbonyl species trapping, and anti-glycation effects, compared to ACFs.
Furthermore, the berry ACEs at a dose of 100 μg/mL inhibited both thermal- and reactive carbonyl species (methylglyoxal; MGO)-induced Aβ fibrillation associated with the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
In BV-2 microglia, the berry ACEs at a dose of 20 μg/mL reduced H₂O₂-induced reactive oxygen species production and lipopolysaccharide-induced nitric oxide species.
Based on the findings, researchers said, "The free radical scavenging, reactive carbonyl trapping, anti-glycation, anti-Aβ fibrillation, and microglial neuroprotective effects of these berry extracts warrant further in vivo studies to evaluate their potential neuroprotective effects against AD.".
Taken altogether, berries including cranberry processed abundantly anthocyanins may be considered remedies for the prevention of β-Amyloid Aggregation against the onset of AD, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Green Tea, the Beverage Which Inhibits Airway Inflammatory Diseases
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk airway inflammation and treatment of arthritis, some scientists suggested.
Inflammation is a physical condition characterized by reddened, swollen, hot, and often painful of one and some parts of the body, due to the immune response to injury or infection.
In other words, inflammation is a result of the immune response by the macrophages, activating the proinflammatory cytokines protein in protecting the damage and injured tissue against foreign pathogens invasion in the acute phase of infection.
Some cytokines with duo function in switching from anti-inflammatory cytokines against inflammation under normal conditions to proinflammatory in the acute phase of body damage and injury.
Although the activation of proinflammatory cytokines plays an important role in healing the body injured tissue, overproduction can cause abnormal healing with scars and the death of healthy cells.
For example, Overproduction of inflammatory cytokines in hepatitis infection can cause liver scars, leading to the development of liver fibroid.
According to the statistic provided by the AMERICAN GASTROENTEROLOGICAL ASSOCIATION, more than 30 million people take over-the-counter and prescription NSAIDs for pain relief, headaches, and arthritis every day, including 20 NSAIDs available by prescription only.
Anti-inflammatory pain and fever reliever drugs such as aspirin, ibuprofen, or Celebrex may be effective, however, they can induce certain side effects, including gastrointestinal discomforts, such as heartburn, .headaches,. and dizziness.
In serious cases, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can induce kidney damage, stomach ulcer, and high blood pressure.
If you are currently taking the medicine, please make you know all the side effects. Longterm use of medicine can also increase the risk of bleeding and damage to the small intestine.
Green tea is a precious drink processed a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In the investigation of green tea, bioactive polyphenols epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) in the reduced risk airway inflammation through its immune-modulatory activities in several cytokines and pathways researchers at the College of Medicine found that application of EGCG exerts a significant impact in regulating the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes of matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-9) with function in remodeling the major change that is responsible for irreversible asthmatic airflow restriction in toluene diisocyanate (TDI)-inhalation lung tissues associated in the initiation of pulmonary diseases.
Further analysis also suggested that EGCG reduces airway inflammation through inhibiting overproduction of the levels of TNF-alpha and Th2 cytokine (IL-5) in BAL fluid during the course of the systemic inflammatory response against the invasion of bacteria and virus in acute phase reaction.
These results indicated that EGCG processes a strong impact in reduced airway constriction caused by inflammatory agents in facilitating the asthmatic reaction.
Interestingly, the efficacy of EGCG decreased airway inflammation induced by application of T DI through its antioxidant activity and stimulated the production of natural antioxidants in the body tissue by preventing the ROS in the precipitated chain reaction to induced cytotoxicity and suppressed MMP-9 in orchestrated inflammatory cell migration.
Dr. Kim SH, after taking account of other co-founders, said, "Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a major form of tea catechin, has anti-allergic properties" and " EGCG regulates inflammatory cell migration possibly by suppressing MMP-9 production and ROS generation".
The above differentiation was supported by the study of biological activity of EGCG in anti-allergic and anti-inflammatory activities of lung tissues in an asthma model-mouse, and nasal epithelial cells of patients with allergic rhinitis conducted by the.
According to the evaluation, compared to control group, treatment group ameliorated the expression of MUC5B with physiologic functions in the mucus gel that ensure normal mucus clearance and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) in response to stress stimuli such as inflammatory factors in the induction of cell differentiation, apoptosis and autophagy to protect the body against infectious cells to growth and site expansion.
Similarly, the application of green EGCG also reduced the expression of MMP-9 in enhancing inflammatory cell migration as found in the first study without alternating the extracellular signal-related kinase (ERK)1/2 MAPK expression in response to inflammatory factors.
These results suggested that EGCG demonstrated a potential effect in reducing airway inflammation through interaction with the nasal epithelial cells of patients with allergic inflammation by decreased phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate (PMA)-induced MUC5B and MMP-9 expression.
According to the experiment of murine heterotopic tracheal allograft model of OB in the mice model, injection of green tea EGCG inhibited inflammation, with significantly less neutrophil and macrophage infiltration and significantly reduced fibrosis. Those factors were found to contribute to the rejection of the transplant lung organ.
Moreover, EGCG also decreased expression of inflammatory cytokines production involved systematic inflammation and protein monocyte chemokine monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1) in promoting infectious cells migration and infiltration of monocytes/macrophages through increased antifibrotic cytokine interferon-γ-inducible protein-10 (IP-10) and decreased profibrotic cytokine transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) information of excess fibrous connective tissue in the organ or tissue.
The findings strongly suggested that EGCG has great potential in ameliorating the development of obliterative airway disease.
Taken all together, green tea containing bioactive polyphenols EGCG may be considered a functional food in the prevention of airway inflammation and airway-related diseases through a complex system involved may proteins and pathways.
However, the intake of green tea supplements should be taken with exceptional care, as acute liver toxicity has been reported in some medical literature.

Green Bean Inhibits the Post Nonfatal Myocardial Infarction Complications
Stroke is the third leading cause of death. Approximate 1/4 of all stroke victims die as a direct result of the stroke or its complications.
Stroke is caused by the accumulation of cholesterol and other substances that build up the arterial walls. In other words, if cholesterol building up in the arteries is blocking the circulation of blood in any part of the body causing oxygen not to be delivered to the brain, leading to the death of some cells in the brain.
According to the statistics, every year, more than 790,000 people suffer a stroke, including 600,000 of these are first attacks, and 185,000 are recurrent attacks. Most cases of stroke occur in people over the age of 65.
Myocardial infarction is the severe and medical emergency characterized by the obstruction of the blood supply to the brain, causing local brain neurons death. Prompt treatment can minimize brain damage and potential post disease complications.
The occurrence and extent of brain infarction are associated with three basic factors, including the site of arterial occlusion, the rapidity of arterial occlusion, and the presence or absence of collateral circulation.
In other words, brain infarction can be classified into myocardial infarction due to plaque rupture and myocardial oxygen supply-demand imbalance secondary to other acute illnesses.
The exact causes of a blood clot to induce acute brain infarction are unknown. Plaques accumulation in the arteries associated with hardening and stiffing arterial walls is a leading cause of cardiovascular disease, including stroke.
The trouble with speaking and understanding, confusion, sudden numbness, weakness or paralysis in your face, arm or leg, headache and the trouble with walking are some of the most common symptoms found in patients with post-myocardial infarction.
Depending on the severity of the acute infarction, in serious cases, patients may also experience symptoms, paralysis of the face, arm or leg, trouble with seeing in one or both eyes.
Although, there are many factors associated with the risk of acute infarction. some researchers suggested an unhealthy diet may have a strong and negative implication on the onset of the condition.
Dr. Guo J, the lead scientist at the Peking Union Medical College & Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences wrote, "Several dietary frequencies (serves per week) including vegetables, fruits and tofu were closely associated with a decrease of AMI risk. Carbohydrate pattern showed a weak relationship with AMI. We observed a U-shaped association between frequencies of fat and protein pattern and AMI risk. Excessive fat intake increased the AMI risk".
Green bean is a genus of Phaseolus Sensu Stricto, containing 55 difference species, belong to the family Fabaceae and native to the New World tropics and grown in Europe for its attractive flowers and fleshy immature pods. It can be classified into two major groups, bush beans, and pole beans.
In the concerns of elevated homocysteine levels associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, researchers examined the effect of dietary folate found in green leafy vegetables, such as green beans intake against nonfatal myocardial infarction.
In a case a controlled study in three tertiary hospitals of Pamplona, Spain, between 1999 and 2001, researchers examined the study physicians enrolled 171 patients less than 80 years of age with a first nonfatal myocardial infarction and 171 control patients matched by age, sex, hospital and calendar month.
According to the tested differentiation, only 6% of participants were taking folate vitamin supplements and the main sources of folate were found in dietary green leafy vegetables, green beans, oranges, peppers, and lettuces.
More importantly, the top three quartiles of folate intake of above 340 microg/day) had a matched RR of myocardial infarction of 0.57 (CI = 0.35-0.94), compared with the lowest quartile of intake.
In other words, folate intake from green bean showed a linear dose-dependent on the reduced risk of myocardial infarction
Based on the results, researchers suggested. "Our results in a Mediterranean population with natural plant foods as the main source of folate provide further evidence to support the hypothesis that dietary folate intake may be an independent protective factor for myocardial infarction".
Taken altogether, green beans may be considered a functional food for the prevention of myocardial infarction, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.
