Herbal Turmeric, the Natural Treatment for Hyperlipidemia with No Side Effects

Hyperlipidemia is a chronic condition of abnormally high levels of any or all lipoproteins in the bloodstream, including cholesterol and triglycerides.

The condition is normally known as high blood cholesterol in the general population.

People with hyperlipidemia are asymptomatic. Over time, the fat collection in the arteries accompanied by calcium or other substances form plague, leading to narrowing arteries and reduced function of the arteries to transport oxygen-rich blood to the parts of the body.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, in 2015–2016, more than 12% of adults age 20 and older had total cholesterol higher than 240 mg/dL, and more than 18% had high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or “good”) cholesterol levels less than 40 mg/dL.

Believe it or not, about half of the U.S. adults (55%, or 43 million) are currently taking medicine associated with lower blood cholesterol.

There are many risk factors that cause the onset of hyperlipidemia, such as people with diabetes, being overweight gain, physical activity, and smoking.

Some researchers suggested the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past decades may be one of the silent causes of hyperlipidemia in the Western world.

Dr. Charles Desmarchelier in the examined the risk of high blood cholesterol in a high-fat diet model said, "Mice on Western diet showed increased plasma cholesterol levels, associated with the higher dietary cholesterol supply, yet, significantly reduced cholesterol levels were found in intestine and liver".

And, "(The) intestine and liver react to a high dietary fat intake by activation of de novo cholesterol synthesis and other cholesterol-saving mechanisms, as well as with major changes in phospholipid metabolism, to accommodate to the fat load'.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, researchers investigated the effects of curcumin on hyperlipidemia and hepatic steatosis in high-fructose-fed Wistar rats.

The study included 40 male Wistar rats divided into four groups with 10 rats in each. Two groups were fed with a standard rodent diet and the other two with a 60% high-fructose diet for 10 weeks. Curcumin (200 mg/kg body weight) was administered along with the diets simultaneously to each of the aforementioned diet groups.

After 10 weeks of the experiment, researchers found that curcumin decreased the levels of hyperlipidemia observed by reducing body weight, liver weight, adipose weight.

The plasma levels of triglyceride by inhibited the proteins associated with fat cell fat metabolism, lipid ratios and increased HDL-C (28.4 ± 4.5 mg/dL) in fructose-fed rats were also lower by the injection of curcumin.

Furthermore, curcumin also suppressed the lipogenic enzymes involved in regulating lipogenesis in fat cells.

Taken altogether, turmeric processed a high amount of curcumin may be used for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Andrographis Paniculata, a Neuroprotective Whole Herb Medicine

Good news for aging people with neurodegenerative diseases, Andrographis paniculata possesses potent anti-inflammatory activity in expression of neurodegeneration a study of renowned institute suggested.

Andrographis paniculata, also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka, used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia,......

Andrographolide, a major phytochemical isolated from Andrographis paniculata, exerted significant anti neuro deficits in reduced infarct volume with a maximum reduction of approximately 50% at a dose of 0.1 mg·kg(-1).

According to the National University of Singapore, the efficacy of the chemical compound in neuroprotective effects is the result of suppression of NF-κB, a protein in regulated cell survival and function of microglia in the activated response to brain injuries and immunological stimuli together with the reduction in the production of inflammatory cytokines.

Dr. Chan SJ, the lead research said, "Andrographolide, given i.p. 1 h after pMCAO, reduced infarct volume with a maximum reduction of approximately 50% obtained at 0.1 mg·kg(-1)".

Octodon degus (degu) is the only wild-type South American rodent that develops Alzheimer's-like pathology with age. the progression of AD in these animals is associated with aging on the loss of cognitive function, causing a decrease in the synaptic functions and an increase in the main hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Natural product (Andrographolide, ANDRO), administered to aged degus (56-month old) for 3 months, in compared 2 control groups (young degus: 12-month old and aged degus: 56-month old), showed a recovery of spatial memory and learning performance, synaptic basal transmission; and enhancing the neuroprotective effect, through reduced phosphorylated tau protein and reduced amyloid beta aggregate maturation in involving neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) in Andrographolide, ANDRO treated subjects.

Taking together, Andrographis could be used as a functional food in potential therapy for AD-associated to neural damage due to aging processes and neuropathological hallmarks of aging-related diseases such as AD.

Green Tea, Bioactive Epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) Gallate (EGCG3"Me) Anti Allergic Effects

Green tea may have a particular and special effect in ameliorated autoimmunity in precipitation of allergic diseases, some scientists opinionated.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a numbers of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Allergic diseases are a class of conditions characterized by an overreaction of the immune system to substances that cause little or no harm to the body.

Investigation of the effect of green tea bioactive compounds in reduced abnormal immune allergic expression was found to associate with certain mechanisms.

According to the Kyushu University, Epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3"Me) isolated from cv. "Benifuuki" green tea expressed strong and positive activities in inhibited the mast cell production in precipitated allergic inflammatory responses and suppressed the high-affinity IgE receptor (FcεRI) function in the expression of immunoglobulin E (IgE), an antibody isotype involved allergy disorder through 67 kDa laminin receptor in the mediation of the suppressive effect by epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate.

Further analysis also found that the bioactive compound binds to 67 kDa laminin receptor to attenuate allergic expression induced by mast cell by suppressing the myosin light chain phosphorylation in regulated immune response to eosinophil (a type of disease-fighting white blood cell) migration in the tissue, a characteristic feature of allergic diseases and ERK1/2 phosphorylation signaling by modulation of inflammatory cytokines expression.

A double-blind clinical study of the green tea effect on subjects exposed to Japanese cedar pollinosis, administration of Benifuuki green tea containing O-methylated catechins showed significantly relieving allergic symptoms induced by pollen such as nose blowing, eye itching in compared with the placebo group without effecting the normal immune responses.

More interestingly, in mouse bone marrow-derived mast cells activated by antigens, bioactive compound epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3″Me) in combination with ginger extract also demonstrated a strongly anti-delay-type allergic effect by suppressing cytokines secretion of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-α), a cell-signaling protein (cytokine) in response to systemic inflammation in the acute phase infection. and macrophage Inflammatory Proteins(MIP-1α), a chemokine involved host response to invading bacteria and viruses.

In compared to the dose of 5.1 times higher in EGCG, injection of 8.5 mg of EGCG3″Me exhibited a much stronger anti-allergic activity than 43.5 mg of EGCG, observed by the area under curve AUC (area under the drug concentration-time curve; min μg/ml) of 6.72 ± 2.87 in EGCG and 8.48 ± 2.54 in EGCG3″Me.

Taken together, green tea with abundantly bioactive Epigallocatechin-3-O-(3-O-methyl) gallate (EGCG3"Me) may be considered as a functional food for protection against autoimmune response stimulated by unharmful allergens.

Aloe Vera, the Natural Whole Food Medicine for Reduced Aging Wrinkle

Aloe Vera or Aloe Vera supplement may be used to delay skin aging degeneration in induced expression of wrinkles.

Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It is very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits, used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol, etc.

The wrinkle is a skin degenerative condition caused by the loss of dermis and the subcutaneous fat layer underneath the skin, leading to a slight line or fold on the skin, particularly in the face.

According to the Food Ingredients & Technology Institute, daily oral intake of plant sterols of Aloe vera gel (Aloe sterol) significantly increases the skin barrier function, moisture, and elasticity in photoprotected skin of that may reduce risk of skin wrinkle.

In a 12-week, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, in 48 apparently healthy men (age range: 30-59 years; average: 45 years), intake of oral Aloe sterol supplementation after 12 weeks showed a significant improvement of the skin elasticity index in comparison in the baseline value.

Dr. Tanaka M, the lead author said, "Aloe sterol ingestion increased skin elasticity in the photodamaged skin of men aged <46 years, and "No Aloe sterol intake-dependent harmful phenomenon was observed during the intake period".

Furthermore, in vitro, Aloe sterols increased the production of collagen and hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in skin response to connective, epithelial, and neural tissues. approximately two-fold and 1.5-fold, and promoted gene expression levels in human dermal fibroblasts.

In fact, daily oral Aloe sterol-containing Aloe vera gel powder (AVGP) significantly reduced facial wrinkles in women aged ≥40 years as well as stimulated collagen and hyaluronic acid production by human dermal fibroblasts.

In support of the above evaluation, intake of Aloe Vera gel enhanced healthy skin through promoting elasticity (R2), net elasticity (R5), and biological elasticity (R7) scores and skin fatigue area F3, the Food Ingredients and Technology Institute 12 weeks study suggested.

Taking all together, there is no doubt that oral administration of Aloe Vera or Aloe Vera supplements may improve skin condition caused by skin aging degeneration, but the quality of amount intake should only be prescribed by related field specialist.

Garlic, The Best anti cancers Whole food medicine

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotics, etc. but Garlic appears to be generally safe although allergic reactions may occur.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body, have become progressively worse and damaged other healthy tissues. Sometimes cancer cells spread to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.

A recent study lead by author Dr. Oommen S, indicated that allicin, the main ingredient found in garlic induced the formation of apoptotic bodies, nuclear condensation and a typical DNA ladder in cancer cells, causing cell death.

Researchers in the study of ingredient allicin also showed that the phytochemical was capable in inducing an increase of the rate of apoptosis with affecting the expression the cell cycle division and negation of pro inflammation.

In cancer HL60 and U937 cell lines, allicin inhibits cell growth and induces apoptosis through the mitochondrial pathway by involving the activation of the mitochondrial apoptotic pathway by GSH depletion and by changes in the intracellular redox status.

In the research of the function of 20 compounds from garlic, researchers at the Kerala Agricultural University, Kerala, suggested that garlic Phytocompounds Possess Anticancer Activity by Specifically Targeting Breast Cancer Biomarkers.

Other compounds found in garlic such as organosulfur, its extract and phytocompounds also suppress cancer cell proliferation and induced cell cycle arrest.

Therefore, people with or without cancers may consider adding a portion of garlic whole food into their diet for prevention, management, and treatment of the disease.

Ginger, The Spice Which Protects Our Body Against Inflammatory Diseases

Scientists may have found a pungent and kitchen spices which process a potential effect on the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases without inducing any side effects.

Inflammation is a natural reaction of the immune system whose function is to protect our body against the invasion of the foreign stimuli and pathogens.

In the acute phase of tissue damage or injury, the white blood cells responsible for the first line of defense activate the production of the inflammatory cytokines to the site of infection with an aim to kill off the invasive agents.

However, in most cases, the overproduction of inflammatory cytokines can damage the nearby cells and lead to improper healing with the formation of scars.

Chronic inflammation is an inflammation that lasts more than 3 months. The development and progression of chronic inflammatory diseases are the results of the immune system which can not kill off the invasive pathogens in the acute phase of infection or immune system mistakenly attacks the body tissue, leading to the persistently low-grade inflammation.

In the further analysis of the evolution of physiological supersystems involved chronic inflammatory disease, Dr. Rainer H. Straub, the lead author said, "It is predicted that genes that protect energy stores are positively selected (as immune memory). This could explain why energy-demanding inflammatory episodes like infectious diseases must be terminated within 3–8 weeks to be adaptive, and otherwise become maladaptive:

These results suggested that the genes and networks used evolved during physiological supersystems, fitness consequences and during different life-history stages are positively selected if they serve acute, highly energy-consuming inflammation.

In other words, the immune system becomes maladaptive, if inflammation does not terminate within eight weeks of infection.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The kitchen has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

On finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of inflammation without inducing any adverse effects, a joint study led by the CHA University, Seongnam was conducted to examine the molecular mechanism of 6-gingerol on adipocyte-mediated systemic inflammation in vitro and in high-fat-diet-induced obese zebrafish.

Injection of 6-gingerol exerted a significantly increased the production of anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 and decreased the expression of proinflammatory cytokines, TNFα, monocyte chemotactic protein-1, interleukin-1β, and interleukin-6.

In the RAW 264.7 macrophages, 6-gingerol inhibited the protein expression of proinflammatory factors TNFα and monocyte chemotactic protein-1, a small cytokine that belongs to the CC chemokine family.

6-Gingerol decreased c-JUN N-terminal kinase and I kappa B kinase beta which plays an important role in the inhibition of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase activated by multiple stimuli such as inflammatory cytokines

Where JNK (c-Jun N-terminal kinase) is a member of the MAPK (mitogen-activated protein kinase) family that regulates a range of biological processes including inflammation.

6-gingerol also decreased the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase in the stimulation of the expression of inflammation.

Dr. Choi J, the lead scientists wrote in the final report, " 6-gingerol suppresses inflammation through the regulation of the c-JUN N-terminal kinase-I kappa B kinase beta and its downstream targets".

Furthermore, the investigation of the effects of 6-gingerol ((S)-5-hydroxy-1-(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-3-decanone) in experimental models that HepG2 cells were exposed to 500 µmol/l oleic acid (OA) for 24 h and preincubated for an additional 24 h with 6-gingerol (25, 50 or 100 µmol/l). 6-Gingerol (100 µmol/l) inhibited OA-induced triglyceride and inflammatory marker accumulation in HepG2 cells of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis also suggested that
* Daily application of 6ginger for 8 weeks while maintained on HFD. 6-Gingerol (100 mg/kg/day) alleviated liver steatosis, inflammation, and reversed

* [6]-gingerol also attenuated the expression of inflammatory cytokine genes and nuclear transcription factor-κB (NF-κB) increased in the HFD group.

The results strongly indicated 6-Gingerol attenuates HFD-induced steatohepatitis by downregulating NF-κB-mediated inflammatory responses and reducing hepatic lipogenic gene expression.

More interestingly, in the study includes five groups of rats containing 14 rats/group received corn oil (control), CPF (5 mg/kg), 6-GRF (100 mg/kg), CPF (5 mg/kg) + 6-GRF (50 mg/kg) and CPF (5 mg/kg) + 6-GRF (100 mg/kg) through gavage once per day for 35 days respectively, researchers showed that

* Before 6-gingerol application CPF-induced rats showed an increase in oxidative stress ((hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and malondialdehyde (MDA)), inflammatory (myeloperoxidase (MPO), nitric oxide (NO) nitric oxide (NO) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF- α)), and apoptotic (caspase-3) markers.

* Injection of 6-gingerol attenuated all factors in the CPF induced rats.

* 6-GRF reduced the inflammatory expression through improving the activities of antioxidant enzymes catalase, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and glutathione S-transferase (GST) as well as glutathione (GSH) level in the brain, ovary, and uterus of rats exposed to CPF.

Dr. Abolaji AO the lead author said, " the protective effects of 6-GRF on CPF-induced toxicity in the brain and reproductive organs of rats may be due to it's potent antioxidative, anti-inflammatory and antiapoptotic properties".

Where Chlorpyrifos (CPF) is an organophosphorus pesticide widely used in agricultural applications and household environments.

Taken all together, ginger processed abundantly 6-gingerol may be considered a functional kitchen spice for the prevention and treatment of inflammation.

Herbal Cinnamon, The Natural Alternative for Treatment of Infertility

Scientists may have found a kitchen spice that processes some underline mechanisms in enhancing the rate of fertility, some studies suggested.

Infertility is a condition characterized by the inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse or the cannot carry the pregnancy full term.

The syndrome affects over 5 million couples alone in the US. Because of the unawareness of treatments, only 10% seek help from professionals.

According to the statistic, about 35% of infertility is caused by the male's inability to fertilize. 35% is caused by the female's inability to conceive, 10% attributes to both, and 10 % is considered a failure with an unknown cause.

Dr, Romero Ramos R, in the study [Risk factors associated to female infertility], wrote, "There were 6 factors with statistical significance: advanced age (p < 0.001), elevated body mass index (p < 0.001), age of onset of sexual activity (p < 0.001), prior pelvic surgeries (p < 0.001), and presence of stress (p < 0.001). Other risk factors such as smoking, chemical, and radiological treatments, pelvic inflammatory disease, exercise, contraceptive use, alcohol intake, drugs, coffee, solvents, glue, and insecticides, were not significant".

In male infertility, according to a case-control study conducted by Dr. Buiatti E and colleagues, about coffee and alcohol consumption, smoking habits, x-ray exposure, usual sitting posture, drug consumption, other nonoccupational risk factors, socioeconomic status, education level, and occupational history are some of prevalent risk factors associated to male infertility.

And, the high relative risk was associated with (a) occupation in the radioelectric industry, (b) nonsedentary clerical workers, (c) clerical work in the typographic industry, and (d) occupation in the textile industry,

Cinnamon, a kitchen spice in many cultures, may be best known for its effectiveness in reducing the levels of blood glucose in diabetics and lipid peroxidation through its antioxidant activity(4).

In a total of 45 women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, randomized, 26 women completed 3 months of the study, and 17 women completed the entire 6 months of the study, researchers showed,
* Application of cinnamon exerts a positive effect in the improvement of menstrual cyclicity associated with luteal phase progesterone levels and ovulatory menses without altering insulin resistance or serum androgen levels

* Cinnamaldehyde, a major chemical compound of cinnamon enhances fertility through selectively induced progesterone production and inhibits the production of testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone in human adrenal cells.

* Further differentiation, suggested that cinnamon extract not only reduces insulin resistance in vitro and in vivo by increasing phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase activity with insulin stimulation in the insulin signaling pathway but also improves menstrual cyclicity in female induced PCOs.

Moreover, in the infertile male rat study conducted by Fırat University, long-term cinnamon bark oil(CPO) improved the effect on testicular oxidant-antioxidant balance and sperm quality with significantly decreasing the abnormal sperm rate and apoptotic germ cell count.

Interestingly, in the study to investigate the likelihood of detrimental effects of carbon tetrachloride (CCl4 ) on the male reproductive system through oxidative stress mechanism and also protective effects of cinnamon bark oil (CBO), researchers at the Firat University conducted an experiment including 28 healthy male Wistar rats.

The tested subjects were divided into four groups, seven rats in each. Group 1 received only olive oil daily; group 2 was treated with 100 mg kg(-1) CBO daily; group 3 was treated with only 0.25 ml kg(-1) CCl4 weekly, and group 4 received weekly CCl4 + daily CBO.

All administrations were made by the intragastric catheter and maintained for 10 weeks.

At the final report, researchers suggested that
* CCl4 administration caused significant decreases in body and reproductive organ weights, testicular catalase (CAT) activity, sperm motility and concentration, and significant increases in lipid peroxidation (LPO) level, abnormal sperm rate and apoptotic index along with some histopathological damages compared with the control group.

* Pretreatment of CBO following the administration of CCl4 significant improvements in absolute weights of testis and epididymis, all sperm quality parameters, LPO level, apoptotic index, and testicular histopathological structure Cl4, compared to the group given CCl4 only.

Taken altogether, Cinnamon may be effective in promoting fertility in both sexes through enhancing the menstrual cycle in women and improving sperm performance in men.
