Green Tea, The Beverage, Which Improves The Brain Functions in All Aspects, Studies Show

Green tea intake regularly may have a potential influence on many aspects of the brain functions some scientists suggested.

The brain and the spinal cord form a central nervous system that consists of the ability to control our thoughts, memory, and speech, muscles, and the function of many organs.

People with brain impairment caused by a disease or injury may experience the decline of some conscious mental activity, including speech, learning, and memory. In severe cases, patients may also have reduced daily function and independence.

In neurodegenerative disease, the progressive death, and loss of neurons function that affects the different regions of the brain may facilitate memory loss, forgetfulness, apathy, anxiety, agitation. a loss of inhibition and mood changes. In severe cases, the disease can cause a substantial reduction of the quality of life.

As of today, the treatment of neurodegenerative disease in conventional medicine is limited only to the symptoms. None of the currently available therapies slow or stop the continued loss of neurons.

Green tea, a precious drink processes a numbers of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

With an aim to find a natural and potential source that processes the ability in enhancing brain function, researchers at the University of South Australia conducted a review of the association between two dietary components of tea, caffeine, and L-theanine, and the psychological outcomes of consumption.

After taking an assessment of all the selected studies, researchers found that caffeinated tea, injecting at regular intervals, maintains alertness, focused attention, and accuracy and may modulate the more acute effects of higher doses of caffeine.

The interaction of L-theanine on the brain and caffeine exerted the neurochemical effects to enhance performance in terms of attention switching and the ability to ignore the distraction,

However, although, injection of tea stimulated a higher-level cognitive activity, caffeinated tea can cause detrimental effects to the brain as a result of overstimulation

Additionally, the in-depth differentiation of L-theanine in the modulation of the aspects of brain function suggested* L-theanine found in the tea has a direct effect on the brain.
* L-theanine significantly increases activity in the alpha frequency band which indicates the relaxation of the mind without inducing drowsiness.

These results were provided by the final report of EEG recording in the study of young participants with rest at the baseline and 45, 60, 75, 90 and 105 minutes after ingestion of 50mg L-theanine (n=16) or placebo (n=19). The similar results also observed even when the subjects engaged in a passive activity.

Benefits of the increase of Alpha Brain Waves are the deep relaxation of body and mind accompanied with no stresses and worries.

Intesterestly, in the study to examine whether L-theanine injection reduced stress by blocking the binding of L-glutamic acid to glutamate receptors in the brain, researchers launched an investigation including fourteen participants each underwent three separate trials, in which they orally took either L-theanine + placebo, caffeine + placebo, or placebo only.

All participants were assessed on mental task performance and physiological activities under conditions of physical or psychological stress in humans.

Application of L-theanine significantly inhibited the blood-pressure increase in a high-response group, which consisted of participants whose blood pressure increased more than average by the performance of a mental task after placebo intake.

Caffeine exerted a similar but smaller inhibition of the blood-pressure increase caused by the mental tasks.

Also, according to the Profile of Mood States after the mental tasks, L-theanine reduced the Tension-Anxiety scores as compared with placebo intake.

These results suggested that the application of green tea L-theanine not only reduces anxiety but also attenuates the increase in the levels of stress.

Taken all together, there is no doubt that moderate consumption of green tea or tea with an abundant of L-theanine processes a positive and profound effect in enhancing brain function in many aspects. However, excessive green tea and tea drinking may cause overstimulation.

Tomato/Lycopene the Anti Cancers Functional Food

Cancers are a class of diseases caused by irregular cell growth in the tissue or organ in the body.

According to the Canadian Cancer Society, in 2017, over 200,000 new cases of cancer were diagnosed and 80,800 patients died from the disease in the same year.

Lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer were accounted for about half of all cancer diagnoses and deaths.
Believe it or not, 1 in 2 Canadian adults will develop cancer in their lifetimes and 1 in 4 will die of the disease.

At the early stage, patients with cancer may not experience any symptoms due to the very small size of the tumor and the cancer are still on the surface in the inner lining tissues. However, at the late stage after colonizing the complete organ, cancer cell not can travel a distance away from the originated site to affect other healthy tissue and organ, they can also cause some related and specific symptoms accompanied by general symptoms associated with other types of cancer.

Cancer is classified by the followings
* Size of the cancer

* Invasive or not

* Whether cancer has spread to the lymph nodes

* Whether cancer has spread to the distance parts or organs of the body.

There are 4 stages of breast cancer in TNM rating (where T is referred for tumor size, N is referred for Lymph Node status, M is referred for invasive or not)

Where
# T: Tumor Size is divided into four classes: T-1 is between 0 - 2 cms, T-2 is between 2 - 5 cms, T-3 is > 5cms, and T-4 is a tumor of any size growing into the chest wall or skin, including inflammatory breast cancer.
#N: No swollen nodes: N-0, some swelling but negative node (not cancerous): N-1a, swelling nodes and positive node (cancerous): N-1b, quite swollen and bunched together: N-2, quite swollen and near the collarbone: N-3.
# M: if no cancer cell is found: M-0, cancer cells found: M-1.

The stages of cancer are
* Stage 1T-1 tumor and clear lymph nodes with no evidence of spreading (M-0), or T-1N-0M-0.
* Stage 2
Stage 2 is the combination of a combination of T-1, T-2, or T-3 tumor, N-0. N-1a and N-1b but no spreading (M-0)
* Stage 3
Stage 3 is the combination of all T or N but no spreading (M-0)
* Stage 4
Stage 4 is the combination of T, N-1a, N-1b, N-2, N-3, and M-1

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

In the urgency to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of cancer with little or no side effect, researchers examined the effect of a novel strategy of formulating the lycopene loaded whey protein isolate nanoparticles (LYC-WPI-NPs) ability for adenosine deaminase inhibition of the regression of the tumor with the percent lycopene entrapment in the range to 50 and 65%.

In the chemical release analysis, LYC-WPI-NPs enhanced the oral bioavailability of lycopene by controlling its release through the absorption in the lymphatic pathways.

According to the MTT based colorimetric assay, LYC-WPI-NPs exerted significant cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cells in vitro.

In an animal model induced breast cancer, LYC-WPI-NPsd also demonstrated it's prophylactic anticancer efficacy without causing the death of normal cells.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote in the final paper, "Conclusively, it may quite reasonable that lycopene loaded protein nanoparticles are competent to improve the biopharmaceutical attributes of lycopene and demonstrated prophylactic anticancer activity, decrease tumor proliferation and increase the survival rate of treated animals".

In other words, LYC-WPI-NPs significantly enhanced the lycopene anti-cancer biopharmaceutic activity compared to oral administration as seen in an animal model.

Taken altogether, tomatoes may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of lycopene in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry Modulates the Expression of Energy Metabolism, According to Scientists

Bilberry may be the next potential target by the pharmaceutical companies to extract a single ingredient medicine for improvement of energy metabolism, according to studies.

Energy metabolism is a process to generate energy from protein, fat and carbohydrate or fat already stored in the body.

Although carbohydrates and fat are considered the major sources of energy in the diet, protein is necessary for all kinds of biological processes but less in the direct production of energy purposes.

Energy metabolism alterations are found associated with a large number of diseases including mitochondrial diseases, acute coronary syndrome, chronic kidney disease, asthma or even cancer.

And, energy metabolism alternation can also affect all organs and tissues functioning.

Certain factors can increase and decrease the rate of energy metabolism, such as the immune cells require energy to maintain cellular viability and to perform specific immune functions, including
* Body size such as weight and heigh

* Body composition: fat tissue has a lower metabolic activity than muscle tissue.

* Aging: decrease muscle mass decrease energy metabolism.

* Gender women have a slow rate of energy metabolism compared to men.

Dr. Prabhakar, the lead scientist in the investigation of the energy metabolism on obesity, said, "Energy used by the body is described in terms of the metabolic rate underlying passive and active conditions which are further correlated to bodyweight".

And, "Energy metabolism and the role of carbohydrates, lipids, and protein in foods are areas of emerging research with a therapeutic approach against obesity and related biological disorders". of e

The results strongly suggested that if you are obese, you are at higher risk of diseases associated with a decreased rate of energy metabolism, such as insulin resistance.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The herbal plant has been used as foods and herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

Researchers on finding the natural ingredient for the improvement of energy metabolism investigated the bilberry activity in genes expressed in the intestinal mucosa which is responsible for nutrient absorption and waste secretion.

Injection of bilberry improved the intestinal barrier functioning by enhancing the balance of gut microbiota, thus increasing the absorption of the nutrients.

Furthermore, male C57BL/6J mice (n = 52) selected to the study received a control low-fat diet (LFD; 10 kcal% fat) for 6 weeks followed by 24 weeks of either LFD (n = 13) or high-fat diet (HFD; 45 kcal% fat; n = 13) or HFD supplemented with 0.1% w/w of the flavonol compound epicatechin (HFD+E; n = 13) or an anthocyanin-rich bilberry extract (HFD+B; n = 13), researchers found that
* The switch from an LFD to an HFD increases the plasma cholesterol and hepatic lipid content in non-anthocyanin-rich bilberry extract treatment group.

* The polyphenol compounds in the HFD supplemented with 0.1% w/w of the flavonol compound epicatechin could not prevent HFD-induced systemic rise of inflammatory levels compared to the bilberry treatment group.

* The findings strongly supported the use of supplementation of HFD with an anthocyanin-rich bilberry extract for the beneficial effects on the systemic early inflammatory response associated with HFD-induced obesity.

Dr. the leads scientist wrote, "On the tissue level, long-term treatment with bilberry attenuated TNF-α expression in adipose tissue".

In other words, the intake of anthocyanin-rich bilberry extract lowers the level of systemic inflammation in the adipose tissue against the onset of metabolic syndrome-associated chronic pathologies.

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functional remedy to improve the intestinal barrier functioning in energy metabolism by reducing the intestinal inflammation and promoting healthy adipocytes.

Herbal Ashwagandha Arrests Ovarian Cancer in Vitro

Cancer is the class of medical diseases characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissue or specific organ in the body due to the alternation of cell DNA.

The ovaries formed part of the women reproductive system are the reproductive organs that connect to the fallopian tubes and attach to the outer layer of the uterus via the ovarian ligament. Usually, the left and right ovary take a turn to release an egg every month in the mid-point of each menstrual cycle.

Furthermore, the ovaries also produce the female hormones estrogen and progesterone.

Ovarian cancer is medical a condition caused by abnormal cells growth of ovarian cells that start on the surface of the inner lining of the ovary. Over time, the oversized tumor can travel a distance away to infect the nearby organ and tissue via the fluid and blood circulation.

Ovarian cancer is one of the fifth most common cancer, accounting for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system in the US, according to the statistics. The lifetime risk of getting ovarian cancer is a woman is about 1 in 78, compared to the lifetime of dying from ovarian cancer risk of 1 in 108.

The causes of ovarian cancer are not clearly defined. However, epidemiologically, family history, BRCA genetic preposition, never being pregnant or giving birth, tall adult height, hormone replacement therapy, smoking, exposure to asbestos are some prevalent factors found in patients with the disease.

The most common symptoms of ovarian cancer are abdominal bloating, pressure in the pelvis or lower back, a frequent or urgent need to urinate and/or constipation, changes in bowel movements and increased abdominal girth accompanied by general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.

The epithelial ovarian tumor is the most common form of ovarian cancer that is arisen from the cell on the surface of the ovary, accounting for over 90% of ovarian cancer of all cases, including serious tumors, endometrioid tumor, and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma.

Germ cell ovarian cancer found in a censer of the egg-producing cells within the ovary and sex cord-stromal ovarian cancer that occur in children and teens as a result of birth defects are 2 other types of ovarian cancer.

Ashwagandha also is known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, Middle East, and the Mediterranean. The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered as anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of ovarian cancer with no side effects, researchers investigated the effects withaferin A (WFA), a bioactive compound isolated from the plant Withania somnifera, when used alone or in combination with cisplatin (CIS) on chemo-resistance of cancer stem cells (CSCs).

The study included nude mice bearing orthotopic ovarian tumors generated by injecting human ovarian epithelial cancer cell line (A2780), administration of WFA and cisplatin (WFA) alone or in combination, showed a 70 to 80% reduction in tumor growth and complete inhibition of metastasis, compared to untreated controls.

WFA (2 mg/kg) injection resulted in a highly significant elimination of cells expressing CSC markers such as genes associated with cell to cell interaction, growth and differentiation signaling, and cell proliferation.

Furthermore, genes involved in cancer promotion, metastasis, and multidrug resistance and proliferation are also inhibited by the WFA, compared to no effect of mice treated with CIS alone (6 mg/kg).

In other words, CIS alone (6 mg/kg) inhibited CSC without affecting the aforementioned genes. These may explain the recurrence of cancer in patients treated with carboplatin and paclitaxel.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "WFA alone or in combination with CIS eliminates putative CSCs, we conclude that WFA in combination with CIS may present more efficacious therapy for ovarian cancer".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and an adjunct therapy combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of ovarian cancer, pending to the confirmation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Artichoke, the Potential Anti Thyroid Cancer Herbal Remedy with No Side Effects, Scientists Reveal

Scientists may have found a herbal remedy for the treatment of thyroid cancer with no side effect, according to studies.

Thyroid cancer is a chronic and medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the thyroid gland due to the alternation of cell DNA.

Most cases of thyroid cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the gland, affecting the thyroid function in hormone production in the early stage.

About 45% of thyroid cancer is found in the population over the age of 45. According to the statistic, approximately 53,000 adults in the United States are diagnosed with thyroid cancer every year.

In other words, the risk of thyroid cancer is about 4% a year, according to the data from 2005 to 2014. Overall, the 5-year survival rate for people with thyroid cancer is 98%.

The exact causes of thyroid cancer are unknown. Epidemiological studies suggested that people who have a family history of goiter, exposure to high levels of radiation, and certain hereditary syndromes are at an increased risk of the incidence.

Some researchers suggested that if you are female, your risk of thyroid cancer is increased substantially compared to the male counterpart.

Dr. Reza Rahbari, the lead scientist in the study to examine the thyroid cancer gender disparity, said, "Thyroid cancer is one of the fastest-growing cancer diagnoses worldwide. It is 2.9-times more common in women than men".

And, "Recent studies on estrogen receptor status in thyroid cancer show a difference in the receptor subtypes expressed based on the histology of thyroid cancer. Moreover, the response to estrogen is dependent on the specific estrogen receptor expressed in thyroid cancer cells".

The results clearly suggested that the risk of thyroid cancer is 2.9 higher in the female, probably due to the response to the hormone estrogen.

Artichoke is a perennial thistle of Cynara cardunculus species of the Cynara genus, belonging to the family Carduoideae native to Southern Europe around the Mediterranean.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a liver protective and detoxified agent, and to treat digestive disorders, abdominal pain gas and bloating, etc.

Researchers on finding a natural chemo compound for the treatment of thyroid cancer examined the antithyroid cancer activity of the sesquiterpene lactone cynaropicrin, a major constituent of the artichoke leaves extracts.

The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of cynaropicrin, a major compound from the sesquiterpenes on the grown of three human thyroid carcinoma cell lines.

Injection of cynaropicrin showed to inhibit the viability of CAL-62, 8505C and SW1736 cells in a dose- and time-dependent way, with an EC50 of about 5 mM observed after 48 h of treatment.

In the cellular growth assays, cynaropicrin inhibited cell proliferation through the arrest of the cell cycle, mainly in the G2/M phase, observed by the presence of a significant percentage of necrotic cells.

Furthermore, the differentiation after 48 h of treatment with 10 mM of cynaropicrin suggested that the compound induced cell apoptosis also through the inhibition of the proteins associated with cell survival and cell cycle division.

Moreover, the application also reduced the free radical activity in exhibiting the expression of lipid peroxidation, without any significant effect on the reactive oxygen species production.

These results clearly suggested that cynaropicrin exhibited the function of free radicals in exerting the cytotoxic effect against thyroid cancer without causing harm to the healthy nearby cells through its antioxidant activity.

Taken altogether, artichoke processed abundantly bioactive compound sesquiterpene lactone cynaropicrin may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of thyroid cancer, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Ashwagandha Inhibits Testosterone Deficiency in Vivo

Testosterone is a steroid hormone found in humans produced mostly from the testicles in men and a small amount in women's ovaries.

According to epidemiological studies, treatment for hypogonadism is on the rise, particularly in the population due to natural reduced production of levels of testosterone other than normal aging.

Testosterone production starts to produce significantly during puberty and dip after age 30.

In males, the early onset of reduced production of levels of testosterone is associated with a highly prevalent burden of comorbid medical conditions and polypharmacy complicates, compared to those of normal aging,

Also, low levels of testosterone in males are associated with the early onset of metabolic syndrome in the induction of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Apart from normal aging, low levels of testosterone are found to induce symptoms of decreased sex drive, low energy, weight gain, the risk of depression, and moodiness, loss of hair and thinner bones.

If you are experiencing some of the above symptoms, you may have low levels of testosterone. Please make sure you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Dr. Giagulli VA, in examining the complications of testosterone in men wrote, "Testosterone deficiency syndrome (TDS) induces several negative effects that generally involve different organs such as testis, bone, skeletal muscle, and heart, leading to reduction in testis function, causing osteoporosis, strongly reducing muscle mass, decreasing exercise capacity and strength and facilitating heart failure".

And, " Approximately 25% of patients affected by chronic heart failure (CHF) is characterized by plasma Testosterone (T) levels below normal ranges also related to disease progression".

These results clearly suggested apart from normal aging, males with testosterone deficiency are associated with the complications of many ailments.

Conventionally, testosterone replacement therapy has been found to increase sexual function, lean muscle mass and strength, mood and cognitive function, with a possible reduction in frailty and osteoporosis.

However, Dr. E. Charles Osterberg and colleagues in examining the benefits and risk of TRT wrote, "The benefits seen with TRT, such as increased libido and energy level, beneficial effects on bone density, strength and muscle as well as cardioprotective effects, have been well-documented. TRT is contraindicated in men with untreated prostate and breast cancer. Men on TRT should be monitored for side-effects such as polycythemia, peripheral edema, cardiac and hepatic dysfunction".

On finding a potent compound for the treatment of testosterone deficiency, researchers examined the effect of a methanolic extract of Withania somnifera (L.) Dunal roots on sexual competence in an animal model.

Male rats selected to the study prior to treatment day 3 and 7 of treatment, and day 7, 14 and 30 post-treatment before orally administering 3000 mg.kg-1.day-1 of root extract for 7 days by pairing each male with a receptive female.

Based on the tested differentiation, the root extract showed a significant activity by improving the impairment in libido, and sexual performance, compared to baseline.

Furthermore, sexual vigor and penile erectile dysfunction in the tested rats were also strongly improved by the administration of root extract in a time-dependent manner.

Most importantly, cessation of treatment of the extract partly reversed this efficacy.

However, the injection of the extract showed an antimasculine side effect that was not attributed to the change of testosterone levels but the promotion of hyperprolactinemic, GABAergic, serotonergic or sedative activities.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "Use of W. somnifera roots may be detrimental to male sexual competence".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the treatment of testosterone deficiency in male, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

Cucumbers (Cucumis sativus), the Potential Anti-Gastric/Stomach Cancer Antioxidant

Gastric or mouth cancer is a chronic and medical condition characterized by abnormal cells growing in the tissues of the stomach.

The stomach formed part of the digestive system and located between the esophagus and the small intestine, is a muscular, hollow of the digestive tract.

Most cases of gastric or mouth cancer start in the mucus-producing cells of the inside lining of the stomach due to the alternation of DNA. Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of gastric cancer.

At the early stage, due to the small size of the tumor, most patients with gastric cancer are asymptomatic.

However, as cancer continues to grow, it may induce general symptoms shared by all cancer and specific symptoms such as mild ache in the upper part of the body, difficulty of swallowing, feeling full or bloated after a small meal, vomiting blood or having blood in the stool.

At this stage, gastric cancer also induces secondary metastasis, by infecting other healthy tissues and organs far away from the original site.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of gastric cancer including diet, long-term inflammation of the stomach, smoking, and obesity, some researchers suggested low levels of gastric acid production by the stomach may have a strong implication in facilitating the onset of the condition.

Dr. Helge L. Waldum, the lead scientist in the analysis of the correlation between Helicobacter pylori and gastric acid, wrote, "Helicobacter pylori (Hp) is the main cause of gastritis, peptic ulcer disease, and gastric cancer. There are still unanswered questions related to the interaction between Hp and man, like what determines the susceptibility for the initial infection and the mechanisms for the carcinogenic effect".

And, "The initial infection seems to require a temporal gastric hypoacidity. For Hp to survive in the gastric mucus layer, some acidity is necessary. Hp itself is probably not directly carcinogenic. Only when inducing oxyntic mucosal inflammation and atrophy with hypoacidity, Hp predisposes for gastric cancer. Gastrin most likely plays a central role in the Hp pathogenesis of duodenal ulcer and gastric cancer".

The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is also a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of gastric cancer, researchers examined the effect of Ecballium elaterium (L.) A. Rich (Cucurbitaceae) (squirting cucumber) on cell lines of gastric and esophageal origin namely called AGS (human gastric carcinoma) and KYSE30 (human esophageal squamous cell carcinoma).

The study included AGS and KYSE30 cancer cell lines incubated for 24, 48, and 72 h with an aqueous extract of the fruits of E. elaterium prepared and freeze-dried.

In AGS, at the IC(50) values of 2.5, 0.7, and 0.7 μg/ml, the aqueous extract for cell lines after 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively showed significant induction of cell apoptosis.

Similarly, KYSE30 cell line induced apoptosis was found at IC(50) values for KYSE30 cell line in doses of 500, 150, and 125 μg/ml after 24, 48, and 72 h, respectively.

Furthermore, the injection of the extract also showed a significant increase in cell density at the G2/M phase, according to cell cycle analysis.

Moreover, the efficacy of the extract against gastric cancer cell lines was attributed to several compounds in the induction of cytotoxicity.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The results of the current study showed that the freeze-dried aqueous extract of E. elaterium fruit has a cytotoxic effect on gastric and esophageal cancer cell lines by means of apoptosis".

In order to reveal more information about cucumber anti-gastric cancer activity, researchers investigated the effects of Cucurbitacin B (CuB), a natural compound found in Cucurbitaceae in cisplatin (DDP)-resistant human GC cell line SGC7901/DDP.

According to the tested assays, CuB treatment significantly suppressed SGC7901/DDP cell proliferation, induced caspase-dependent apoptosis, and autophagy.

Interestingly, the activation of autophagy was mediated through CuB- inhibition of the protein (TORC1) involved the regulation of cancer cell growth and survival.

In order to reveal more information about CuB anti-gastric cancer potency, scientists examined the CuB activity as a cancerous inhibitor of protein phosphatase 2A (CIP2A), a human oncoprotein that is overexpressed in multiple kinds of tumors including gastric cancer (GC).

In cisplatin (DDP)-resistant human GC cell line SGC7901/DDP, CuB treatment exerted a similar effect as of that of the aforementioned study in the inhibition of SGC7901/DDP cell proliferation, induced caspase-dependent apoptosis, and autophagy.

Moreover, CuB inhibited mTORC1 as showed in the previous study via the inhibition of CIP2A which activates the protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in the induction of cancer cell proliferation.

Based on the results, researchers said, "CuB can inhibit the proliferation, induce caspase-dependent apoptosis, and autophagy of SGC7901/DDP cells by suppressing CIP2A/PP2A/mTORC1 signaling axis".

Taken altogether, cucumber processed a high amount of Cucurbitacin B (CuB) as the main ingredient may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of Cucurbitacin B (CuB) in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
