Infertility is a reproductive disease characterized by the failure to produce a pregnancy after 12 regular unprotected sexual intercourse, including pregnancy that can not be carried to term.
Infertility is very common in the US, approximately 10% of women or 6.1 million, ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Believe it or not, only a very small number of such groups are seeking help from the professionals.
In men, age, pesticide and chemical exposure, drug use, radiation, pollution, cigarette or marijuana smoke, heavy alcohol consumption may be some risk factors for the onset of infertility.
In fact, some unfertilized women and men sometimes ago are fertile. However, here are some reasons that have found to increase the risk of infertility in the Western world, including
* Persuade a personal career, before having children.
*Try to be financial stability before having children.
* Too young to be a parent, raising a child needs efforts, time and money.
* Enjoy the couple childless years before committing.
Some researchers suggested that the widespread obesity in North America may be the major factor correlated to the increased infertile rate over the past few decades.
Dr. Nicole O. Palmer the lead scientist in the concern of obesity in the risk of men infertility, wrote, "Obesity has detrimental influences on all systems, including reproductive health. The prevalence of obesity in infertile women is high, and it is well known that there is an association between obesity and infertility".
And, "Recent data has shown that male obesity also impairs offspring metabolic and reproductive health suggesting that paternal health cues are transmitted to the next generation with the mediator mostly likely occurring via the sperm.".
Ashwagandha also is known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, Middle East, and the Mediterranean.
The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered as anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.
On finding a potent compound for the treatment of infertility, researchers examined beneficial effects induced by oral intake of the Withania sominifera (Ashwagandha) on semen quality of infertile men.
Based on the tested analysis, oral intake of Ashwagandha roots only improved sperm count and motility, and regulate reproductive hormone levels. but also inhibited the lipid peroxidation associated with the risk of infertility.
In a molecular perspective, oral intake of Ashwagandha roots inhibited the mitigation of oxidative stress and pathways involved in hormonal imbalance by enhancing the interaction of different endocrine glands to improve male fertility.
More precisely, Ashwagandha roots improved men's fertility by mitigating risk factor-that cause the onset of men's infertility.
In stress-induced male infertility on selected normozoospermic but infertile individuals (N = 60) that: divided into normozoospermic heavy smokers (N = 20), normozoospermic under psychological stress (N = 20) and normozoospermic with infertility of unknown etiology (N = 20).
Compared to Normozoospermic fertile men (N = 60), root powder of W. somnifera at a rate of 5 g/day for 3 months showed a strong effect in the treatment of stress-related infertility by improving the level of anti-oxidants and overall semen quality.
Root powder of W. somnifera treatment also resulted in pregnancy in the partners of 14% of the patients.
Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the treatment of male infertility, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale), the Best Antioxidant Functional Herbal Medicine
Antioxidants are stable atoms that inhibit oxidation caused by free radicals.
Free radicals are highly reactive molecules with an unpaired electron on the outer ring of the atom.
Due to its nature to become stable, free radicals readily to donate or steal an electron from other molecules, leading to the chain of domino's effect that can not be stopped until either the electrons are paired or inhibited by antioxidants.
This chain of reaction is the cause of oxidative stress, a condition is associated with either overexpression of free radicals or depletion of antioxidant enzymes produced by the host organs.
Overexpression of free radicals is known to cause damage in contributing to the etiology of many chronic health problems such as cardiovascular and inflammatory disease, cataracts, and cancer.
Antioxidants, on the other hand, are stable molecules with a unique function in the inhibition of oxidation.
Believe it or not, free radicals also play a critical role in maintaining a certain body function. The Journal of Physiology showed that free radicals act as signal substances that cause the heart to beat with the correct force.
In healthy individuals, antioxidant enzymes produced by the liver are good enough to balance the free radical produced by the cell metabolism and external sources such as the air we breathe and the food we eat.
However, in people with a weakened immune system such as infants, children, and the elderly, dietary sources from supplements, fruits and vegetables may be needed.
Dandelion is a herbaceous perennial plant, genus Taraxacum, belongings to the family Asteraceae, native to temperate regions of the world.
The herbal medicine has been used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat gout, eczema, acne, gall bladder, kidney, liver and urinary disorders, hypoglycemia, dyspepsia with constipation, edema, blood pressure, and heart weakness, chronic joint, skin diseases, etc.
On finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of chronic inflammatory diseases, scientists examined in vitro and in vivo the antioxidant effects of 70% ethanol-water (v/v) leaf and root extracts of T. officinale (TOL and TOR, respectively).
The study included organ homogenate samples from Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME)-induced hypertensive rats, treated by leaf extracts of TOL (500 mg/kg/day) and TOR (500 mg/kg/day) for 21 days.
Based on the results from the experiment, the antioxidant contents of ) polyphenol (4.35 ± 0.15 compared to 1.14 ± 0.01) and flavonoid (23.17 ± 0.14 compared to 3 ± 0.05) of TOL are significantly higher compared to TOR.
TOL exerted a significantly higher free radical scavenging activity (EC50 0.37 compared to 1.34 mg/mL) and total antioxidant capacities (82.56% compared to 61.54% ABTS, and 156 ± 5.28 compared to 40 ± 0.31 FRAP) compared to TOR.
Furthermore, both extracts inhibited the oxidative stress marker MDA levels and increased the total antioxidant capacity (TAC) without inducing toxicity with LD50 > 5000 mg/kg).
Collectively, T. officinale leaf extract possesses significant anti-oxidant effects that conferred significant in vivo antioxidant protection against free radical-mediated oxidative stress in L-NAME-induced hypertensive rats.
Taken altogether, dandelion may be considered a remedy for enhancing the antioxidant capacity against oxidative stress, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Cleaver(Galium aparine), inhibits the Melanoma Cell Metastasis in Vitro
Skin melanoma is a skin cancer characterized by the alternation of the pigment-containing cells known as melanocytes. However, in rare cases, melanoma can also occur in the mouth, intestines, or eye.
Most cases of melanoma start in melanocytes on skin before spreading to the nearby tissue. In the advanced stage, the cancer cells can also travel a distance away from the originated site to infect other tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis, through the circulation of blood and fluids.
The most common sites of melanoma metastasis are the lung and breast.
The most common symptoms are visible by examing the change of skin, including the sores that can not heal itself, redness or swelling, persistent itching, tenderness and pain and particular, change of skin color, and bleeding off of a mole compared to the normal moles.
The 4 most common types of skin melanoma include
* Superficial spreading melanoma, the type of cancer has a tendency to spread grow outward and spread across the surface of the skin, accounted for 70% of all melanoma skin cancer.
* Nodular melanoma normally grows down into the skin and has a tendency to spread more quickly than other types of melanoma skin cancer.
* Lentigo malignant melanoma, most common in the older population, making up approximately 15% of all melanoma skin cancer.
* Acral lentiginous melanoma, most common in people with darker skin. Cancer first moves outward before spreading deeper into the skin.
According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in 2019, approximately, 96,480 new melanomas will be diagnosed (about 57,220 in men and 39,260 in women) in the US. The condition also causes the death of 4,740 men and 2,490 women.
Believe it or not. most cases of melanoma are found in older adults. The average age diagnosed with melanoma is 63.
Cleaver is a herbaceous annual plant, genus Galium, belonging to the family Rubiaceae, native to North America and Eurasia. The herb has been used over thousands of years in herbal and traditional medicine as mild diuretic and blood and lymphatic cleanser and to treat psoriasis, skin conditions, glands, tonsillitis, bladder infections, prevent small kidney stone, etc.
On finding a potential compound for the treatment of skin diseases, researchers investigated the Gallic acid (GA) found in herbal Cleaver in the inhibition of the growth of human cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.
GA decreases the expression of MMPs MMPs mRNA levels in A375.S2 human melanoma cells in stimulating the cancer cell metastasis.
Furthermore, GA processed antimetastatic potential by decreasing the invasiveness of cancer cells.
Moreover, this action of GA was involved in the Ras, p-ERK signaling pathways with function to communicate a signal from a receptor on the surface of the cell to the DNA in the nucleus of the cell to induce the inhibition of MMP-2 associated with cancer spreading in A375.S2 human melanoma cells.
Based on the findings, researchers said, " These data, therefore, provide evidence for the role of GA as a potential cancer chemotherapeutic agent, which can markedly inhibit the invasive capacity of melanoma cells".
o
Taken altogether, Comfrey may be considered a remedy to inhibit cancer call spreading, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Turmeric Protects the Heart Against Cardiac Toxicity
Cardiac toxicity is a condition in which the heart has been damage to some extents caused by harmful chemicals, including toxins induced by the treatment of chemotherapy.
Depending on the cells of the areas of the heart that have been damaged, cardiac toxicity includes
* Cardiomyopathy is a disorder caused a weaken or damage of heart muscle, affecting the heart rhythm or inducing the risk of heart failure.
* Myocarditis is a condition of inflammation of the heart, that can lead to changes in heart rhythm or heart failure.
* Pericarditis is a condition caused by the inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart, inducing chest pain or heart failure.
* Acute coronary syndromes that affect the blood flow due to blood vessel damage.
* Congestive heart failure is a result that affects the function of the heart in pumping blood throughout the body.
Conventionally, treatment of cardiac toxicity includes medication to control fluids, high blood pressure, and medications which improve heart functioning. If all aforementioned medications fail, a heart transplant may be necessary.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
On finding a natural compound for the treatment of cardiac toxicity scientists launched an investigation to determine whether curry intake reduces blood levels of heavy metals, according to the Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2013 data.
1,350 participants selected for the study were randomly divided into either curry intake group with the consumption of a curry dish more than once a month over the previous year, or a non-curry intake group (n = 747).
According to the heavy metal analysis, the curry intake group showed significantly lower heavy metal blood concentrations (Pb, Hg, and Cd).
Furthermore, the levels of heavy metals in patients with hypertension (HTN) were significantly lower in the curry intake group compared to the nonhypertension group.
The levels of blood concentrations of heavy metals induced toxicity associated with the induction of hypertension were significantly lower compared to the placebo.
The results confirmed the correlation between blood heavy metal levels and HTN.
In other words, turmeric has a potential effect on reducing cardiac toxicity in the induction of abnormally blood pressure.
In order to obtain turmeric detoxed activity, researchers examined the protective effect of turmeric extract against doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiac toxicity in rats.
According to the tested assays, turmeric extract exerted multiple therapeutic activities that ameliorate the effect of DOX-induced cardiac toxicity.
Additionally, turmeric extract inhibited the DOX-induced increase in plasma cholesterol, LDH, associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Mohamad RH, the lead scientist said, "The present findings conclude that the turmeric extract has multiple therapeutic activities that block the cardiac,.....toxicities".
Taken altogether, turmeric processed a high amount of bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention of cardiac toxicity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Angelica Processes Anti-Depression Activity in Vivo
Depression is a common and serious psychological illness, affecting the physical and mental functions of patients, including the ways patients feel, think and act.
Some patients with depression may feel sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.
There are many causes associated with the onset of depression, including genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief or difficult life circumstances that initiate the change of brain chemistry in inducing depressive syndrome.
The most common symptoms of depression include sadness, hopelessness, guilt, change of mood, loss of interest in friends, family, favorite activities, and sex.
Some patients with depression also experience cognitive symptoms of trouble concentrating, making decisions, remembering and thoughts of harming themselves.
People who act out of the ordinary, consist of undesirable behavior result in impairment in the individual's functioning are considered to have abnormal behavior.
Undesirable behavior or abnormal behavior has been found in many patients with chronic depression.
According to the statistics, over 30 million Americans suffer from depression and the amount is increasing at an alarming rate. Depression may be a mental health disorder that can affect the way you eat, sleep, and the way you feel about yourself.
Antidepressant is a type of conventional medicine used as a first-line treatment of depression.
Angelica or Dang Qui is a herb of Genus Angelica from the family Apiaceae, indigenous to China.
The herb has been used as a Queen herb in traditional Chinese medicine antispasmodic and vasodilatory agent, and to balance the hormones in women for a normal menstrual cycle and menstruation and strengthen heart, spleen, kidneys, and liver for both men and women, etc. In other words, it is used to treat gynecological ailments, fatigue, mild anemia, and high blood pressure. It has analgesic, anti-inflammatory, etc.
On finding a herbal medicine for the treatment of depression and depressive symptoms, researchers examined the antidepressant effects of PAPZ (Panax ginseng, Angelica Sinensis, Polygala tenuifolia Willd, and Ziziphi spinose Semen) on corticosterone (CORT) model of depression in mice.
According to the experimental results, the administration of PAPZ ameliorated depression-like phenotypes in the CORT model.
Furthermore, chronic PAPZ administration exhibited the protein expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the hippocampal tissue of the depressive mice.
Moreover, levels of the antioxidant enzyme activity of superoxide dismutase were enhanced compared to the decrease of the levels of stress marker malondialdehyde levels in the hippocampal tissue.
Based on the evidence, researchers said, "PAPZ has therapeutic effects in a mice depression model through increasing protein expression of BDNF and improving the anti-oxidation ability of the brain".
Taken altogether, Herbal Angelica processes anti-depressant activity, pending to larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Eating Disorders are a group of abnormal eating habits associated with a person's preoccupation weight, involving either insufficient or excessive food intake.
Eating disorders can be classified into
* Anorexia nervosa is a type of eating disorder usually develop in the teen years and affects over 90% of females, because of excessive food restriction and irrational fear to become fat due to the wrongly influenced media as attractiveness is equated to thinness.
* Bulimia nervosa
Bulimia nervosa is a medical condition of consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time or one setting (binge eating), followed by self-induced vomiting, and taking a laxative or diuretic and/or excessive exercise, etc. to compensate for the binge. Bulimia Nervosa also affects almost 90% of females.
* Binge eating disorder
Binge eating disorder is a medical condition of compulsive eating of huge amounts of food while feeling out of control and powerless to stop. It is a common eating disorder in the United States affecting 3.5% of females and 2% of males.
Most common symptoms of Anorexia nervosa are
* Weight loss, sometimes severe as a result of malnutrition.
* Refusal to maintain a normal or minimally above normal body mass index for their age and Dieting despite being thin or dangerously underweight
* Intense fear of gaining weight and primary or secondary amenorrhea
In the study Eating disorders. A review and update by Haller E. at the University of California indicated Anorexia nervosa is diagnosed when a person refuses to maintain his or her body weight over a minimally normal weight for age and height, such as 15% below that expected, has an intense fear of gaining weight, has a disturbed body image, and, in women, has primary or secondary amenorrhea(2).
* Obsession with calories and fat content of food and try to avoid eating altogether. They deny hunger and will usually avoid eating around others as well as avoiding situations where food might be present(3).
* Disturbance to body image the person hold of him/herself
In the study of Eating disorders. A review and update, Dr. E Haller indicated that anorexia Nervosa is diagnosed when a person refuses to maintain his or her body weight over a minimally normal weight for age and height, such as 15% below that expected, has an intense fear of gaining weight, has a disturbed body image, and, in women, has primary or secondary amenorrhea(4).
*Abdominal pain and distention
Anorexia nervosa is also associated with abdominal and with a sensation of elevated abdominal pressure.
Dandelion is a herbaceous perennial plant, genus Taraxacum, belongings to the family Asteraceae, native to temperate regions of the world. It has been used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat gout, eczema, acne, gall bladder, kidney, liver and urinary disorders, hypoglycemia, dyspepsia with constipation, edema, blood pressure, and heart weakness, chronic joint, skin diseases, etc.
On finding a natural ingredient for the treatment of eating disorders in chemotherapy patients, scientists examined the anti-anorexia of herbal mixtures extracts LCBP‑Anocure‑16001‑3 (LA16001, LA16002, LA16003), composed of Atractylodes japonica, Angelica Gigas, Astragalus membranaceus, Lonicera japonica Thunb., Taraxacum Platycerium H. Dahlstedt and Prunella vulgaris var. Asiatica (Nakai) Hara.
In a cisplatin‑induced anorexia mouse model, treatment with LA16001 prevents body weight loss. However, all three extracts were demonstrated to improve food intake.
LA16001showed to altered expression levels of ghrelin, leptin, and interleukin‑6 associated with infection.
In other words, LA16001 modulated the interleukin‑6 activation of phosphring the caorylation of Janus kinase 1 and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 during the course of infection induce-inflammation observed by the increase of the number of white blood cells and neutrophils.
Based on the findings, researchers said, " the herbal formula LA16001 may be able to prevent chemotherapy‑induced anorexia and may have potential as a novel therapeutic strategy for the adjuvant treatment of patients with cancer".
Taken altogether, dandelion may be used to enhance and prevent side effect in a combination with chemo drugs in chemotherapy, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
