Anti-aging: The Hidden Secretes and Truth of Skin Aging, You Probably Don't Know

Aging in a natural process is getting old.

Biologically, the process may also characterized by ceased dividing (cellular senescence) of single cells within an organism.

Skin aging is one of most visible process which occurs constantly in our skin organ

Theories of aging
What cause aging? The question that has been asked throughout the human history, but it doesn't seem to get any answer but raises many more unanswered question. While many theories try to answer the question by related aging to tear and wear of the body, others deal with how the organs and systems in the body develop and deteriorate overtime, etc.

1. Somatic mutation theory
In this theory, aging is due to our inherited genes that come directly from our parents. Since the conception occurred, our body cells continue to divide and replication themselves. Since the division and replication are a life long precess at some point, for what ever reason, if cells division and replication can process incorrectly, leading to mutation of incorrect copy of DNA. Although the cause of this incorrect process are unknown, but researchers found that exposures to toxins, radiation or ultraviolet light, artificial ingredients, unhealthy life style, etc. can increase the risk of cells mutation and the cells copied incorrectly can mutate themselves, leading to accumulation of incorrect gene cells that trigger a chain reaction of an auto-catalytic nature in producing more and more fincorrect gene cell, until it finally is brought under controlled, this processes can lead to aging. As an organism, the immune system tries to destroy or scavenger these mutated genes but at some points, it is over whelming, leading chronic age related diseases.

2. Error catastrophe theory
The error catastrophe of aging, originally proposed by Leslie Orgel in 1963. Our body immune system helps to maintain the structural integrity of DNA not only for cell survival but also for the transfer of correct genetic information to the daughter cells. Error catastrophe indicated that alterations DNA and the incorrect placement of amino acids in protein synthesis could result in a progressive degradation aging as a result of these abnormal protein are no longer functioning as chemical passengers or signalers.

3. Protein glycosylation
Protein glycosylation is a result of chemical reaction of glucose with vary proteins, including enzyme, elastin and collagen in the blood. The cross linked protein glycosylation leads to cell to cell adhesion causing stiffness and rigidity of individual cells, reducing the cells function in taking nutrients and expelling waste.
If the cross link protein glycosylation occurs in the elastin and collagen, it will cause brittle skin, causing aging, but it happens in the organs it will be more serious and sometimes life threatening.

4. The neuroendocrine theory
First proposed by Professor Vladimir Dilman and Ward Dean MD, this theory postulates on wear and tear of the neuroendocrine system. In neuroendocrine system, the master pituitary gland secrets hormones to direct other glands in secreting their hormones and works conjunction with the hypothalamus glands form a command post in the nervous system in closely direct the function of most of the body functions.
but as we age, the hypothalamus loses its ability as a hormone regulator as its receptors of which uptake other gland hormones become less sensitive to them, including sex hormones, DHEA, serotonin, melatonin, etc.
As for cortisol, a hormone secreted by the adrenal glands due to stress, is produced with abundance as we age.

5. Immune system decline theory
As we age, our immune system is weakening that cause us become vulnerable to the dangerous pathogens, including microbial and viral invasion. Within the immune system, the thymus glands which play an important role in helping formation of the immune system scavenger that reduces the function of immune system further that allow irregular cell growth cause of aging spot, tumors, cancer, infection, inflammation and onset of chronic illness.

6. Genetic programming theory
Genetic programming theory propose that aging is programmed as the cells cycle in our body are also genetic program since their inception. the explanation is that all the cells are undergoing certain time in division over the a said amount of time before dying, leading to conclusion that people with the long live genetic program live longer than others who do not.
The theory also emphasizes the genetic diseases as a result of genetic programing diminished life span, regardless external and internal influence.
Further refinement of the programmed senescence theory was developed by Bernard Strehler, who proposed that as cells are program to perform specific functions within the organism that cause them to lose some of the ability to duplicate their genetic information, leading to aging.

7. Hayflick limit
The Hayflick limit (or Hayflick Phenomena) theory discovered by Leonard Hayflick and a biologist in 1966. In vitro study, the number of times a fibroblast diploid cells will divide before it stops. The discover is conferring a major hypothesis if the cell division can prolong in a infinite matter without conditions which cause damage of the cells, then organism can liver forever.
Exceptions:
Stem cells
Since stem cells can continue to regenerate new cells for the entire lifespan of the organism, without limit, thus constituting a notable exception to the Hayflick limit theory.
Cancer cells
Cancer cell in biological aspect, have found a way around the limit by becoming a group of immortalized cells produced from cell division that have no limit as to how many times this immortalized cell division might take place.

8. The telomerase theory
The tolomerrase theory is a continuation of support to the Hayflick limit (or Hayflick Phenomena) theory involved in telomeres and telomerase. Telomeres are the structure at the end of the chromosome. As each time the cell divides, its telomeres is shortened, at certain length, the cell stops division and goes into senescence.
The experiment shows, the cell senescence can be reversed by controlling the genes of telomerase autocatalytic nature, which in turn, promotes the forever cell division capacity

9. The free radical theory
A free radical is any atom or molecule that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell and highly reactive to react with other cell, which in turn, causes oxidative damage to the enzymes, other protein, unsaturated fatty acid, phospho-lipids, DNA and RNA, etc., leading to aging of the organisms, as a result of widespread damage due to set of a chain reaction auto-catalytically after attacking the lipid bilayers of the cell walls.

10. Other theories
a. Rate of living and lifespan
Rate of living is defined that a bigger organism, the longer it lives with human is one of the exception due to its slower rate of metabolism and lower rate of free radical activity, leading to low levels of age lipid pigment, resulting in longer life span. Experiment show that there 100,000 free radicals hit everyday in rat, comparing 10, 000 in human.
b. Caloric restriction
Caloric restriction hypothesis suggested in a study of young rat showed that if a rat is put into restricted diet with given of necessary nutrients, it lives longer than those were allowed to eat freely. With the result also the same in the old rat, the theory also suggest eating less may cause less toxins in the body that affects the immune system and reduces the risk of hormone change, leading to free radicals cause of aging.
c. Age spots
Age spots are mainly composed of lipofuscin and lipopigment caused by reaction of free radical and peroxidation, leading to the formation of age spot, as a result of oxygen species interact with autophagocytic degradation occurring inside the lysosomes.
d. Protein oxidation
Protein oxidation cay affect protein function in normal and pathological processes as a result of postranslation protein being alter by reduce oxygen species (ROS) cause of damage to enzyme, leading to dysfunction of its role resulting in aging.
e. Fast track of aging
The theory suggest that there are many of diseases and syndromes of which can contribute to faster track to aging
* Hutchison-Gilford syndrome
It is an extremely rare genetic condition wherein symptoms resembling aspects of aging are manifested at an early age. Those born with progeria typically live to thirteen years, although many have been known to live into their late teens and early twenties and rare individuals may even reach their forties due to genes mutation.
*Werner syndrome
It is Adult progeria, an disorder causes the appearance of premature aging. The syndrome does not develop until they reach puberty is caused by autosomal recessive disorder due to alter gene on chromosome 8.
f. Altered genes
Alter genes are the work of Friedman and Johnson 1988 " .... the effect of elevated expression of SIR2 in yeast appears to be conserved in C. elegans (Tissenbaum & Guarente 2001) and Drosophila (Rogina & Helfand 2004), and mutations in genes encoding components of the target of rapamycin (TOR) pathway also extend the lifespan in all four organisms... "
"... It was originally suspected that extension of lifespan by reduced IIS might turn out to be a worm peculiarity. This was because mutations in genes in the IIS pathway can also cause the worms to enter a type of developmental arrest (dauer), normally seen only in response to low food or crowding (Riddle & Albert 1997). Dauer larvae are long lived, and the long life of IIS mutant adult worms could therefore have been a result of re-expression in the adult of the genes that make the dauer larva long lived...."
g. Free radical connection
Free radical is any atom or molecule that has a single unpaired electron in an outer shell and accumulation of free radical damage over time can cause aging. Theory is first proposed by Denham Harman in the 1950sand in the 1970s extended the idea to implicate mitochondrial production of reactive oxygen species into the 1970s. Study showed that nutant strains of the roundworm that are more susceptible to free radicals have shortened lifespans, and those with less susceptibility have longer lifespans
If free radical causes damage to the DNA repaired enzymes, it can increase the risk of unrepaired DNA damage, leading protein synthesis incorrectly. In fact, free radicals can inflict damage to all celsl in body such as endocrine glands, leading to decreasing of hormone secretion, resulting in aging and Kupffer cell in liver, causing endotoxins accumulated in the blood, leading to more free radicals attacks the immune system, etc.

10. Hormone depletion
The researchers found that if an decrease or absence of the pituitary gland hormones mice is given enough amount of pituitary hormones, it lives longer than a control group of normal mice as it stimulates the production of growth and other hormones such as prolactin, adrenocorticotropic hormone, thyroid-stimulating hormone, etc.

Detoxification: Body Cleansing With A Holistically and Scientifically Prudent Diet

Detoxification is a natural process in removal of toxic substances of human body, mainly carried out by the liver and kidney.

However, prolonged period exposed to toxins may lead to organs failure, causing a disruption of hormone production, damage to other organs and weakening immune system.

1. Spinach
Besides being rich in vitamin A, E, C , minerals such as iron, potassium, magnesium, zinc and calcium that are vital for a healthy heart. it also contains antioxidants, lutein and beta carotene with function in strengthen immune defense against the forming of free radicals.

People with kidney disease should not eat spinach, due to highly oxalate, without drinking a lot of water or juice intake of spinach may increase the risk of forming kidney stones.

According to the study by the University of Tuscia, spinach exerted detoxifying effect in Chlorosis develops in Spinacia oleracea L. plants against exposed to Cd in the basal leaves through phytochelatin production and the nitrogen and sulfur metabolic pathways as dead leaves detach from the plant, they carry away the sequestered Cd(1). .

Furthermore, in model system Caenorhabditis elegans to investigate the anti-oxidative and anti-aging effects of chlorophyll in vivo, researchers found that application of chlorophyll isolated from spinach enhances the lifespan of C. elegans by up to 25% via activation of the DAF-16/FOXO-dependent pathway in regulated aging progression through detoxification and antioxidant activities(2).

2. Broccoli
Broccoli is high in vitamin C, an antioxidant with property in reduced inflammation and inhbited forming of free radicals caused by toxins in our body.

Study shows that some of the chemicals such as indole 3, selenium and diindolymethane exerted anti cancer properties through preventing and repairing DNA damaging cells.

According to study by the Research and Development Division, Kagome Co., Ltd., broccoli sprout extract (BSEx) expressed a significantly liver protective effect casued by various types of xenobiotic substances through induction of detoxification enzymes and glutathione synthesis.on liver gene expression and acute liver injury in the rat(3).

Additionally, 3-methylsuphinylpropyl and 4-methylsulphinylbutyl glucosinolates. ioslated from broccoli demonstrated strong activity in enhanced ability to induce phase 2 detoxification enzymes in mammalian cells(4).

3. Garlic
Garlic is a super natural food with proven record in preventing heart diseases, lower cholesterol level, elevate blood pressure as well as increasing the transportation of oxygen and simulate the production of insulin if needed.

Allicin, an antibody isolated from garlic reduced inflammation and fought off degeneration caused by virus, bacteria by strengthening our immune system.

The sulfur element processed a rejuvenate property by increasing the function of liver in removing toxins.

According to the Kagoshima University, sodium 2-propenyl thiosulfate derived from garlic induces phase II detoxificationenzymes in rat hepatoma H4IIE cells(5).

Moreover, in the rat model NDEA-induced hepatocarcinogenesis, researchers found that application of garlic oil (GO) inhibited the infectious cells through activated changes of hepatic phase Ⅰ detoxified enzymes (including cytochrome P450 enzyme (CYP) 2E1, CYP1A2 and CYP1A1) and phase Ⅱ detoxified enzymes (including glutathione S transferases (GSTs) and UDP- Glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs))(6).

4. Green tea
Green tea processes highest antioxidants in compared to other foods with the same volume.

In the study of 70 rats randomly assigned into 4 groups of 10 and satudied over 2 months. Group 1: Normal diet and tap water; Group 2: 10 mg/kg intraperitoneal lead acetate weekly over 8 weeks; Group 3: Lead acetate + 100 mg/kg green tea, Group 4: Extract green tea, researchers found that green tea treated group inhibited lead exposure observed by weight change and lowest sperm abnormalities in compared to lead group with no treatment(7).

In redox-sensitive transcription factor, nuclear factor erythroid 2 p45 (NF-E2)-related factor (Nrf2) aspects, application of green tea EGCG, exhibited chemoprevention and cytoprotection in modulated Nrf2-mediated cellular events through its abilbity in regulated the expression of antioxidant proteins to protect against oxidative damage triggered by injury and inflammation(8).

5. Tomato
alpha and beta carotene found abundantly in tomatoes strengthen immune system in fighting off inflammation from bacteria and virus in initiated chronic diseases.

Lycopene, a powerful pigment phytochemical inhibited free radicals to facilitated cytotoxicity in induction of cell damage and apoptosis.

According to the joint study lead by the Washington State University, lycopene isolated from tomato exerted its host protective effects in modulation of Nrf2, a master regulator of detoxification and also antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and other cytoprotective mechanisms(9),

Similar to garlic, lycopene also activated changes of hepatic phase Ⅰ detoxified enzymes and phase Ⅱ detoxified enzymes against PAH-induced toxicity.

Taken together, intake of above food daily and regularly may have profound and positive effect in promote optimal health through cleansing the body toxin. However, in take of supplement of above foods should be taken with exceptional care as acute liver toxicity were reported in some medical literature.

All About Green Tea: Habitual Green Tea in Ameliorated Risk of Stroke

Green tea is found to consist a therapeutic and substantial effect in reduced risk and treatment of stroke, some scientists suggested

Green tea, is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Stroke is a medical condition of emergency caused by reduced or interrupted blood circulation to the brain, such as blocking artery induced ischemic stroke and leaking or bursting of a blood vessel precipitated hemorrhagic..

According to statistic, in US, every year, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke, a leading cause of serious and long-term disability.

Evaluation of green tea effect in risk of stroke was found to associated of certain mechanism involving numbers of aspects.

The review of medical literature published online suggested that green tea with strong inhibition of high blood pressure, a primary risk factor of stroke through its antioxidant and vasodilative activities induced by phytochemical flavonoids in improved blood circulation to the brain. Although increased acute blood pressure was found in some studies, this acute effect did not translate into significant alterations in ambulatory blood pressure during regular tea consumption.

The impact of tea or catechin consumption precipitated nitric oxide formation, as an essential gas signal molecule to protect the brain against in facilitated ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke by relaxed vascular smooth muscle cells and induced vasodilatation through regulating network of blood vessel and peripheral nerve tissues.

Amazingly, catechin also reduced NO levels through endothelial function by increased platelets aggression in post stroke.

In fact, green tea theanine, a bioactive chemical constituents also found to process anti stroke development through stimulating NO production of the cells in the inner wall of arteries in reduced risk of vascularconstrction and promoted blood circulation, thus decreasing risk of an artery-blocking clot, a major cause of stroke,

Further analysis also discovered that glutamate molecule found in theanine may also play an important role in attenuated risk of stroke through neuroprotective effect by decreased middle cerebral artery occlusion and cerebral infarction caused by blocking or narrowing the arteries in supplying blood and oxygen to the brain.

According to the study of 82 369 Japanese (aged 45-74 years; without cardiovascular disease [CVD] or cancer in 1995 and 1998 for Cohort I and II, respectively) received 13 years of mean follow-up through the end of 2007. green tea consumption of green tea 2 to 3 and ≥ 4 cups/d showed a significant effect in reduced risk of stroke with the multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios of 0.86 (0.78-0.95) and 0.80 (0.73-0.89), respectively in compared to non drinkers. And Higher green tea consumption reduced the risks of stroke subtypes, especially in intracerebral hemorrhage.

Other researchers suggested that green tea efficacy in reduced risk of stroke may be also associated to antioxidant effect in protection of endothelial function in blood circulation by reduced high blood cholesterol induced plaque build-up in the arteries in blocking blood flow to the brain, particularly in reactive oxygen species (ROS) precipitation of lipid peroxidation.

The effect of green tea in reduced insulin resistance in healthy adults may also contribute to lower risk of stroke, according to the cohort of 1509 nondiabetic participants from the Northern Manhattan Study (mean [SD] age, 11 [10] years; 64.2% women; 58.9% Hispanics).

Dr. Arab L said, "Regardless of their country of origin, individuals consuming >or=3 cups of tea per day had a 21% lower risk of stroke than those consuming <1 cup per day (absolute risk reduction, 0.79; CI, 0.73 to 0.85). The proportion of heterogeneity not explained by chance alone was 23.8%".

The information findings suggested that habitual green tea consumption may have a therapeutic in reduced risk of stroke development in general population.

All About Green Tea: Green Tea in Ameliorated Risk and Prevented Onset of Intestinal Ischemia

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of intestinal ischemia, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Intestinal ischemia is a serious medical condition characterized by reduced blood flow to the
intestines.

In the evaluated 3 groups of male rats ramdonly assigned to Group I (ischemia-reperfusion,I/R) underwent I/R of the intestine (30 min of ischemia followed by 1 h of reperfusion). Group II (green tea + I/R) was given green tea for 2 wk before inducing I/R. Group III (control) with sham I/R, researchers found that injection of green tea group showed an impressive restoration of intestinal mucosa in compared to ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) group.

In observation of cellular antioxidant profile (superoxide dismutase and catalase), green tea group expressed a significant improvement of antioxidants similarly to those of group III and in compared to group II.

The expressions of cellular proliferation markers (proliferating cell nuclear antigen and Ki-67) in regulated intestinal cell division and proliferation were also increased by green tea application..

The above illustration indicated that long term intake of green tea injection may exhibit a strong protection against the intestinal mucosa from injury.

Further differentiation of the effect of Quercetin, the bioactive substance of tea against experimental ischemia- reperfusion (IR) injury of the small intestine in rats, found that quercetin administrated intraperitoneally 30min before 1h ischemia of superior mesenteric artery with following reperfusion periods lasting 1, 4 and 24h significant decreases cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzyme in the epithelial lining of the intestinal villi in expression of normal cell apoptosis only during 24h of reperfusion in a late phase of IR injury in comparison with the control group.

According to the observation of the morphology of COX-2 positive cells, COX-2 positivity was found particularly in goblet cells with function in secreted the main component of mucus.of the intestinal villi epithelium and enteroendocrine cells found in the wall of the gut that secrete hormones that regulate glucose levels, food intake, and stomach emptying respectively, in the glandular epithelium in the group I mice in compared to significantly lesser levels in green tea group.

Dr. Tóth Š, the lead authors at the joint study said," quercetin application attenuated mucosal damage from IR injury by inhibiting neutrophil infiltration which was demonstrated by a lower number of myeloperoxidase positive cells in the lamina propria".

In other similar study with male specific pathogen-free (SPF) Charles River Wistar rats were used in the experiment with quercetin administered intraperitoneally 30min before 1h ischemia of superior mesenteric artery with following 24h lasting reperfusion period., researchers at the joint study lead by the Pavol Jozef Safarik University, also indicated that application of quercetin increases the production of anti inflammatory cytokine IL10 observed by analysis of the blood sample and jejunal tissue and in the number of CD68-positive cells in the lamina propria mucosae (p<0.001) in initiation of production of new blood vessels growth and inflammatory mytokines in compared to control group.

Dr. Curgali K, the lead authors, after taking into account of other con-founders, said, "the preventive application of quercetin before induction of jejunal IRI stimulates faster jejunal mucosa restoration and it seems to have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory effects" and "CD68-positive macrophages could have crucial role in this process since they work as both growth factor and cytokine producers".

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive phytochemicals such as quercetin may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk and prevented onset of intestinal ischemia. People with high risk in development of intestinal ischemia may consider to add 1 or 2 cups of green tea into their daily diet.

All About Green Tea: Green tea In Modulated Fat Metabolism

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced abnormal fat metabolism, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Fat metabolism is a biological process converted lipid intake to energy for the body needs through breaking down fat into glycerol and fatty acids before being absorbed by the intestines.

In the evaulation of the mechanisms of actions of EGCG on bile acid homeostasis and lipid metabolism of green tea bioactive polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), researchers conducted a study included male C57BL/6J mice fed with a low-fat diet, a high-fat western-style diet or a high-fat western-style diet containing 0.32% green tea bioactive polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), found that at 17 weeks of experiment, mice group fed with EGCG exhibits a strong effect in reduced body weight gain, mesenteric fat mass, serum cholesterol and severity of fatty liver.

Additional analysis indicated that green tea reduced expression above parameters was a result of significantly elevated the mRNA levels of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase initiated by cholesterol in inhibition of bile acid synthesis in cholesterol metabolism, thus attenuated absorption of lipid.

Injection of green tea EGCG also increased the level of HMG-CoA reductase in inhibited cholesterol synthesis, biliary lipid secretion, and elevated blood cholesterol through activation of low-density lipoprotein receptors which play an important role of limiting step in lipid synthesis.

Moreover, green tea EGCG also elevated scavenger receptor class B type 1 (SRB1) with functions as a receptor for high-density lipoprotein in meditating the uptake of HDL-derived cholesterol and cholesteryl ester in the liver as well as modulating and regulating certain pathways and networks involved cellular lipids in biological systems.

Dr. Huang J, the lead scientist in the joint study at the State University of New Jersey, said, "The intestinal bile acid content was significantly decreased by EGCG, while fecal excretion of bile acids, cholesterol and total lipids were increased" and "EGCG decreases bile acid reabsorption, results in lower intestinal bile acid levels, which further decreased the absorption of lipids".

Further differentiation of the green tea effect to examine the on lipid levels associated with obesity in C57BL/6J mice fed a normal diet (ND), HFD and HFD with GT for 12 weeks, group with green tea extract and HFD expression a significant alternation of levels of several lipid metabolites observed by the partial least squares discriminant analysis score plot.

Mice group fed with high fat diet demonstrated decreased levels of lysophospholipids (LPLs) (lysophosphatidylcholine, lysophosphatidylethanolamine and lysophosphatidylserine) which show a negative correlation with triglyceride hydrolysis and increased fat absorption in compared to normal diet group. These alternations were not found in mice group fed with HFD plus green tea.

Alternation of lysophospholipid was associated to substantial impact on lysophospholipid metabolism, in contribution of the onset or progression of obesity.

The restoration of lysophospholipids (LPLs) by green tea extract caused by long term high fat diet may be an indication of how green tea reduced expression of inflammation, insulin resistance, and fatty liver disease in obesity.

Interestingly, in the observation of injection of green tea extract in the regulation of hepatic fat metabolism in 36 male chickens fed GTPs at a daily dose of 0, 80 or 160 mg/kg of body weight for 4 weeks, researchers at the joint study lead by the Anhui Agricultural University, suggested that oral administration of green tea polyphenols (GTPs) significantly improves lipid metabolism through reduced hepatic lipid content and abdominal fat mass and abdominal fat mass accumulation which were correlated to onset and progression of over weight and obesity.

Additionally, the application also expressed a strong effect in the phosphorylation levels of AMP-activated protein kinase α (AMPKα) which play an important role in skeletal muscle fatty acid utilization and in regulating growth and reprogramming metabolism, and Acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACACA) in modulation of fat cell cycle stages and cytokinesis, thus reducing fat synthesis and production of pro inflammatory cytokines.

More importantly, green tea polyphenol also altered the mRNA levels and enzymatic activities in suppressed expression of enzymes involved PUFA in the liver in stimulated lipid synthesis and fat oxidation.

Taken together, green tea containing high amount of bioactive polyphenols, such as catechins may be considered as a functional food to reduce onset and progression of over weight and obesity. However, intake of green tea extract should be taken with care as acute liver toxicity has been reported in some cases.

All About Green Tea: Green Tea In Ameliorated Risk, Progression and Treatment of Liver Fibrosis

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of Liver Fibrosis, some scientists suggested.

Green tea containingmore amount of antioxidants than any drink or food with the same volume, is the leaves of Camellia sinensis, undergone minimal oxidation during processing, originated from China.

Liver fibrosis is a liver disease with excessive accumulation of scar tissue as a result of inflammation and liver cell death

According to Fibro Test, approximately, the prevalence of advanced fibrosis was 2.8% in a general population aged 40 years or older.

According to the application of a novel bio-nano particle named 'Chitosan nano-encapsulated green tea extract' at the ultrastructural level on 25 adult rats induced liver toxicity by injection of carbon-tetrachloride and ethanol doses for 3 weeks, rats treated with novel substance expressed a significant reduction of nearly 25% of the sub-cellular area infected with hepatic fibrosis.

The efficacy of Chitosan nano-encapsulated green tea extract in decreased liver fibroids was attributed to the antioxidant activity in inhibited the expression of the injected chemicals in induction over production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in chain reaction to elevated oxidative stress in initiation of liver cell apoptosis.

Observed by scanning electron microscopy, oral administration of novel bio-nano particle also exerted a strong free radical scavengers effect in protected against changes of cell surface structure and surrounding area between the hepatocytes, thus ameliorated risk of collagen deposit to cause liver fibroids.

Moreover, in carbon tetrachloride CCL4 induced fibrotic liver tissues in rat models, treatment of Green Tea Extract (GTE) encapsulated into Chitosan Nanoparties (CS-NPs) revealed that collagen fibers of 250 to 300 nm widths found in the fibrotic liver samples of control group with no treatment were cleared in green tea treatment group.

The effectiveness of GTE is reduced expression of collagen fibers in the liver a was found to correlate to the antioxidant expression in reduced CCL4 in induction of over production of free radicals in precipitated liver tissue damage.

Interestingly, in the evaluation of the protective effect of green tea extract (GT) on hepatic fibrosis in vitro and in vivo in dimethylnitrosamine (DMN)-induced rats, researchers at the Korea University, indicated that application of GT inhibited activated HSC-T6, a rat hepatic stellate cell line which is considered as the major cell type involved in liver fibrosis.

The application also attenuated the collagen deposition which are elevated and acted as a biomaker for progression of liver fibrosis, particularly, in expression of collagen type 1 formation of scar tissue in response to liver damage, found in the early event in the development of hepatic fibrosis, confirmed both by liver histology and by quantitative measurement of hepatic hydroxyproline content.

Dr. Kim HK, the lead author said, "green tea administration can effectively improve liver fibrosis caused by DMN, and may be used as a therapeutic option and preventive measure against hepatic fibrosis".

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenols may have a therapeutic and pharmaceutical effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of liver fibroid caused by forming of scars as a result of liver damage through antioxidant activity.

All About Green Tea: Green Tea in Modulated Gastrointestinal Phases of Digestion

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in enhanced gastrointestinal function in food absorption, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

According to the Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, native catechins found in green tea were not absorbed by digestive system after intake. The polyphenol were accumulate in the intestinal lumen inside space of a tubular structure where they exhibited a significant activity in ameliorated cellular glucose and cholesterol uptake, thus reducing risk in over expression of fasting glucose and lipid accumulation entering the blood stream in induction of syndromes of abnormal high blood sugar and cholesterol.

The pervaded catechins found approximately, 2-15% in the intestinal levels significantly binded to 37% to plasma HDLs through inhibiting the key enzymes involved in lipid biosynthesis and reduced intestinal lipid absorption, thus improving blood lipid profile.action of cholesterol metabolism.

Further analysis of the unstable condition of polyphenols in intestinal environment, also found that transition from the gastric phase to the intestinal phase of green tea extract show a 50% decrease in the antioxidant activity due to the degradation of polyphenols but the deceased extract still exert a strong effect in gastrointestinal environment.

However, intake of whole food milk and cheese in the definition of dairy matrices displayed a significant improvement of polyphenol stability in the intestinal phase and increase of the antioxidant activity by 29% (cheese) to 42% (milk) in compared to non green tea injection control.

Additionally, administration of green tea also demonstrated a strong activity in decreased expression of stomach secretes pepsinogen, in breaking down milk and cheese protein and fat intake in degraded into their component polypeptide or amino acid and glycerol and fatty acids, respectively in the gastric phase but had no effect in the intestinal phase, thus reducing glucose and fat being absorbed and presented in the blood stream.

The finding evidences showed that green tea polyphenols intake together with dairy products improved antioxidant activity and enhanced the integrity of polyphenols during digestion.

Interestingly, in the evaluated rats fed with selenium-containing green tea (Se-GTE, 1.44 mg selenium/kg dry leaves) and China green tea(CH-GTE, 0.13 mg selenium/kg leaves) and China green tea(CH-GTE) effect in the intestinal micro bacterial activity researchers indicated that oral administration of rat group fed with Se-GTE extract for 6 days exerted a significant increase in caecal counts of lactobacilli and bifidobacteria while significantly reducing the caecal counts of bacteroides and clostridial bacteria in compared to CH-GTE rat group in slight but not significant increase in the numbers of caecal lactobacilli and bifidobacteria but decreased significantly the numbers of bacteroides (p < 0.05) and clostridia.

Moreover, rats fed with CH-GTE and Se-GTE showed a 17.2% and 21.3% reduction in the activity of the bacterial enzyme β-glucuronidase, which has been found in contribution of biliary sludge and stone formation and increased risk for colorectal cancer, respectively.

More promisingly, teatment of both CH-GTE and Se-GTE also resulted in 19% and 25.5% increments in the activity of β-glucosidase in reduced beta-D-glucosides and oligosaccharides in released glucose, respectively

Taken together, green tea with abundantly major bioactive polyphenols may be considered a function food in improved gastrointestinal function but reduced absorption of glucose and lipid in induction of abnormal high fasting blood sugar and cholesterol levels through binding to fat and protein in the gastric phase of digestion.
