Green Tea in Reduced Risk of Gut Microbiota Imbalance in Induction of Obesity and Gastrointestinal Diseases

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in improved microbiota imbalance in Induction of obesity and gastrointestinal diseases, some scientists suggested.

Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

Gut microbiota is microorganisms that lived in the digestive tracts in humans and animals.

According to the evaluation of obesity-induced of C57BL/6 J male mice by feeding a high fat (HF) diet for 8 weeks, followed by treatment with oral tea saponin (0.5%) mixed in HF diet for a further 6 weeks, injection of tea saponin (0.5%) mice demonstrated a impressive activity in ameliorated endotoxemia which cause by accumulation of endotoxins in the blood, an indication of overproduction of gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria, reduced numbers of pro-inflammatory macrophage accumulation in the colon in exhibited colon inflammation and gut microbiota alterations in reduced expression of good bacteria, such as Bifidobacteria, Lactobacillus,... and overexpression of harmful bacteria Escherichia Coli and Enterobacter caused by HF diet.

Patients with digestive disorders have been found to associate to an imbalance of gut microbiota and dysbiosis of the gut bacteria communities that can lead to many chronic issues and diseases, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, colon cancer, and autism......,

In fact, balancing of gut microbiota plays an important role in the harvest, storage, and expenditure of energy obtained from the diet and dysfunction of the community is associated various causes in the induction of obesity and malnutrition.

According to the study, tea saponin also improved glucose tolerance and reduced body weight gain in HF diet-induced obese mice that may be an expression of green tea extract in limit unfavorable gut microbiota alterations in HF diet-induced obesity.

Additional analysis of oral administration of three types of tea infusions for 13 weeks in high-fat-diet-induced obese C57BL/6J mice to examine their anti-obesity and gut microbiota modulatory effects. suggested that the application of the tea infusion showed a strong effect in the prevention of the development of obesity with no significant differences and expressed a substantially increased diversity and altered the structure of gut microbiota in tested mice.

According to the high-throughput MiSeq sequencing, multivariate statistical and linear discriminant assays, Dr. Liu Z, the lead author at the Fuzhou University said, "tea infusion consumption substantially increased diversity and altered the structure of gut microbiota" and "(Some) key phylotypes (such as Alistipes, Rikenella, Lachnospiraceae, Akkermansia, Bacteroides,...) might have a close association with the obesity-related indexes of the host".

Interestingly, in male Swiss albino mice were fed with HFD (58% fat kcal) induced alterations of gut microbiota for 12 weeks, green tea extract (GTE) and isomalto-oligosaccharide (IMOs), a naturally occurring plant-based dietary injection, significantly improved liver metabolome associated with lipid metabolism and prevented imbalance of gut microbiota in damage of the lining of the small intestine (leaky gut), through reduced expression of lipopolysaccharides(LPS) in the bloodstream(an indication of serve inflammation) and pro-inflammatory cytokines (e.g. resistin, TNF-α, and IL-1β).

Dr. Singh DP, the lead scientist at the University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) after differentiating above illustration said, " Combination (of GTE and IMOs restores the balance of gut microbiota through), improved beneficial gut microbiota (Lactobacillus sp., Bifidobacteria, Akkermansia muciniphila, Roseburia spp.) abundances, restored Firmicutes/Bacteriodetes and improved Prevotella/Bacteroides proportions".

Taking all together, green tea and its phytochemical constituents expressed strongly improved beneficial effects on multiple parameters in maintaining the favorable gut microbiota ratio in reduced risk of the onset of certain diseases, including obesity, celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease.

Turmeric Protects Diabetics Against Renal Inflammation that Causes Diabetic Nephropathy (Dn)

Diabetic renal inflammation is a condition associated with inflammation in the development of diabetic nephropathy.

Diabetic nephropathy (Dn) is a chronic kidney disease in diabetics, a leading cause of end-stage renal failure.

Epidemiologically, diabetic nephropathy is also associated with cardiovascular disease and increases mortality of diabetic patients.

Metabolic and hemodynamic alterations, oxidative stress, and activation of the renin-angiotensin system are some of the risk factors that have been found in patients with Dn.

Inflammation is a natural defense of the immune system that protects the body against the insult from the foreign invasion.

Acute inflammation occurs quickly or within the hours and lasts a few days or weeks and the damaged tissues are healed itself after all pathogens are killed off.

However, if the immune system can not completely destroy all invaders in the acute phase of infection, it will compromise, leading to chronic low-grade inflammation, a major cause of cardiovascular disease, arthritis, and diabetes.

In diabetes, the presence of chronic low-grade inflammation activated by the innate immune system induced production of pro-Inflammatory cytokines, mainly IL-1, IL-6, and IL-18, as well as TNF-α, are some of the major factors that involved in the development and progression of diabetic nephropathy.

Dr. Juan F. Navarro-González, the lead scientist in the examined the effect of inflammatory cytokines in the risk of Dn wrote, "When considering the role of cytokines in pathophysiological processes underlying disease, it is necessary to take into account the fact that the activities of these molecules are very complex, as reflected by important features, including their pleiotropic actions—and thus a cytokine may trigger several different cellular responses depending on diverse factors, such as cell type, timing, and context".

And, "Cytokines share receptor subunits; act synergistically in many contexts, and, therefore, the association of two cytokines can markedly amplify their effects; cytokines stimulate the cells that produce them, or adjacent cells, or even can intervene through direct cell-cell interaction; and, finally, cytokines induce the expression of other cytokines and cytokine receptors".

In other words, diabetic renal inflammation is the main culprit that causes the development of Dn.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of renal inflammation, researchers examined the effect of Curcumolide, a novel sesquiterpenoid isolated from Curcuma wenyujin for the control of diabetic retinopathy.

According to the experiment results, treatment with curcumolide alleviated retinal inflammatory activities both in vitro and in vivo in an STZ-induced diabetic rat model and in TNF-α-stimulated HUVECs.

Furthermore, curcumolide alleviated retinal vascular permeability by blocking the quality of a material or membrane that causes it to allow liquids or gases to pass through it, and leukostasis that causes elevated blast cell count and symptoms of decreased tissue perfusion in the retinas.

Moreover, curcumolide attenuated the overexpression of TNF-α and ICAM-1associaed with the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in diabetic retinas through activation of NF-κB is a protein complex and p38 MAPK.

Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "These data suggest potential treatment strategies against diabetic retinopathy, particularly in the early stages of the disease".

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumolide may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of renal inflammation, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Whole Food Tomato Balances the Ratio of Intestinal Microbiomes in the Gut

Intestinal microbiome is the community of bacteria living in the gut. Under normal conditions, the ratio of good and bad microbiomes are balanced.

Believe it or not, our GI-tract harbors one of the most complex and abundant ecosystems colonized by more than 100 trillion microorganisms, including Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes.

The composition and functions of the microbiome also have been found to influence by a number of factors including genetics, diet, age, and medical treatments such as antibiotics.

Epidemiological studies suggested that unbalanced of the ratio of bacterias in the GI tract due to the aforementioned factors also induce changes in microbiome structure, that links to inflammatory, functional and metabolic disorders such as IBD, IBS, and obesity.

Dr. Ana M Valdes, the lead scientist in the examined the health benefits associated with intestinal microbiome suggested that gut microbes have a strong effect on human health including immune, metabolic and neurobehavioral traits.

More precisely, the intestinal microbiomes

* Interact with the immune function against inflammatory immune disorders.

* Reduce the risk of gastrointestinal diseases and non-gastrointestinal diseases caused by overexpression of bad bacteria.

* Increase nutrient absorption from the diet, thus reducing the risk of obesity and obese complications.

* Control brain insulin signaling and metabolite levels against neurobehaviors.

Tomato is red, edible fruit, genus Solanum, belonging to family Solanaceae, native to South America. Because of its health benefits, the tomato is grown worldwide for the commercial purpose
and often in the greenhouse.

With an aim to discover healthy food for the treatment of intestinal microbiome imbalance, researchers investigated the possibility of a dietary-induced switch to the gut microbiota composition.

The study included Winnie mice induced ulcerative colitis by treatment of chow enriched with 1% Bronze tomato.

According to the tested results, Bronze-enriched chow showed no macroscopic effect on the IBD symptoms after 2 weeks of administration. However, injection of bronze tomato exerted a significant effect on the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines and reduced levels of pro-inflammatory production in the same periods in ulcerative colitis mice.

Furthermore, the analysis of the microbial composition suggested that Bronze enriched diet demonstrated a strong effect on the microbial composition of Winnie and control mice by increasing levels of good bacteria in the gut.

According to the chemical analysis, the effect bronze tomato in improving the ratio of intestinal microbiome composition was attributed to the polyphenol-enriched diets in creating unfavorable conditions for bad bacterial species.

Another study conducted by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock to examined the effect of tomato fruits derived from plants exposed to multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on gastrointestinal epithelial barrier integrity and their impact on the human commensal intestinal microbiota, in vitro cell culture and batch human fecal suspension models also suggested that
* At 0.001 μg ml-1 concentration, CNT-containing fruits showed insignificantly activity on the model T-84 human intestinal epithelial cells.

* However, at 10 μg ml-1 concentration, CNTs showed a strong effect in penetrating the cell membrane and change the gene expression profile of exposed tested cells.

Taken altogether, tomato processed multi-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) may be considered a dietary supplements for balancing the ratio of intestinal microbiota, pending to large sample size and multicenter human study.

Green Tea and Its Bioactive Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in Ameliorated Risk and Treatment of Ischemic Related Diseases

Green tea may have a substantial and profound effect in reduced risk of ischemic related diseases, some scientists postulated.

Ischemic related diseases are the class of disease caused overexpression of free radicals in the induction of lipid peroxidation including atherosclerosis, ischemia-reperfusion, heart failure, Alzheimer's disease, rheumatic arthritis, cancer, and other immunological disorders.

The investigation of green tea effect and risk ischemic related diseases in a total of 9 studies selected from medical literature published through October 2014, satisfied the criteria and guideline, including 259,267 individuals showed that people who do not consume green tea express a higher risks of CVD of 1.19, intracerebral hemorrhage of 1.24, and cerebral infarction of 1.15 in compared to those drinking <1 cup green tea per day.

For those who drank 1-3 cups of green tea per day, risk of myocardial infarction and stroke are reduced to risk ratio of 0.81 and 0.64, respectively, in compared to those who drank <1 cup/day.

Not surprisingly, those who drank ≥4 cups/day had a reduced risk ratio of 0.68 of myocardial infarction in compared to those who drank <1 cup/day.

And finally, people consumed ≥10 cups/day of green tea were also found to lower LDL with risk ratio of 0.90 in compared to the <3 cups/day group.

The findings of meta-study indicated a strong implication of green tea intake linearly associated to reduce risk ischemic related diseases.

People who are at higher risk of ischemic related diseases may want to add a cup or 2 of green tea as a beverage in their diet for preventive measure.

Further illustration of the effect of green tea in reduced risk of ischemic related diseases researchers at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University conducted a study to investigate the EGCG activity in the acute phase of ischemic stroke, indicated that pretreatment of EGCG displays a significant effect in reduced risk ischemic stroke via nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nfr2) signaling pathway, the expression of antioxidant proteins that protect against oxidative damage triggered by ROS in induction of injury and inflammation.

In a rat model of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion, EGCG treatment demonstrated a significant effect on the expression of the neurologic outcome, with less infarct volume, more number of Ki67/CD31-positive vessels, higher expression of the number of microvessels in tissue, thus increasing blood flow in the brain, compared to mice group treated only with MCAO.

Furthermore, the application of green tea also exerted a significant antioxidant effect in inhibited the overproduction of ROS in the induction of chain reactive through activated Nrf2 expression, thus decreasing oxidative stress in compared to MCAO+vehicle-treated mice.

Interestingly, EGCG also up regulated the VEGF-VEGFR2 signaling pathway which plays important roles in the development and function of the circulatory and nervous systems, involved providing nutrients and oxygen and induced protective effects on brain neurons.

After taking into account of other con founders, Dr. the lead researcher concluded, "EGCG treatment in the early stage of ischemic stroke can promote angiogenesis in MCAO mice, possibly via upregulation of Nrf2 signaling pathway".

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenols such as Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk and treatment of ischemic related diseases, particularly in the high-risk population. Intake of green tea extract should be taken exceptional care as overdose can induce acute liver toxicity.

Green tea and Its Polyphenols in Reduced Risk, Progression, Complications and Treatment of Liver Cirrhosis

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of liver cirrhosis, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Liver cirrhosis is a condition of abnormal function of the liver due to damage liver tissue replaced by scar tissue.

According to statistic, the risk of liver cirrhosis is 1.6% in the adult population.

Green tea polyphenols in reduced risk and treatment of patients with liver cirrhosis were found to associate to numbers of implication, involving various mechanisms.

In male SD rats model induced liver cirrhosis through carbon tetrachloride(CCL4), randomly assigned to 3 groups, including normal group, green tea extract (GTE) group and cirrhosis group, with GTE group and the cirrhosis group were injected subcutaneously 2 times/wk over 9 weeks with 40% Carbon tetrachloride (CCl4), researcher found that green tea treatment groups displayed a significant reduction of concentration of hydroxyproline, an amino acid produced during the hydrolysis of collagen initiate scar accumulation in the liver damage tissue caused by CCl4) in compared to cirrhosis group.

Further analysis, also indicated that green tea exhibited antioxidant activities in decreased expression of malondialdehyde (MDA), a highly toxic reactive species in precipitated liver damage induced by application of carbon tetrachloride(CCL4).

Additionally, the green tea extract ameliorated the liver damage cell in the formation of cirrhosis through attenuating the expression of transforming growth factor-beta 1 or TGF-β1 in initiated cell growth, cell proliferation.

In differentiation of 11 patients with hepatitis C and detectable viremia of 4 Child-Pugh (CP) class A cirrhosis, 4 Child-Pugh class B cirrhosis, and 3 noncirrhotic, researchers at the Thomas Jefferson University indicated that injection of a single oral dose of green tea extract 400 mg containing 94% pure EGCG demonstrated a strong effect in reduced cirrhosis overexpression in induction of liver tumor growth by inhibiting the virus hepatitis in facilitate the production of ROS species through chronic liver inflammation, according to the blood sample withdrawn from the patients without inducing liver toxicity.
Dr. Halegoua-De Marzio D, after taking into account of other confounders said, "A single 400-mg oral dose of EGCG was safe and well-tolerated by all of the patients in the study" and disposition of EGCG was not significantly altered in these patients with cirrhosis".

Interestingly, in the concern of abnormal angiogenesis in patients with liver cirrhosis in induction of severe complications such as variceal haemorrhage and encephalopathy, Dr. Hsu SJ and colleges conducted a study to investigate the effect of green tea extract in Sprague-Dawley rats liver induced in by common BDL (bile duct ligation) in compared to control given distill water for 28 days and found that group treated with green tea extract expressed a strong implication in ameliorated the severity of portosystemic shunting, a rare malformation of the vessels supplying blood to the liver caused by excessive shunting of blood from the liver portal vein to the lower and middle body into the right atrium of the heart due to liver cirrhosis in induction portal hypertension and one of complication of variceal haemorrhage in patient with chronic liver cirrhosis and mesenteric angiogenesis in development of new blood vessels to supply oxygen and nutrients to initiate liver cancer.

Moreover, the effect of green tea GTP extract in reduced progression of liver cirrhosis was attributed to the suppression of hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha (HIF-1α) in expression of liver disease of diverse etiologies, including chronic liver diseases caused by viral infection, excessive alcohol consumption and activation of protein kinase B (Akt) in regulated infectious liver cell survival, cell-cycle progression,... and levels of VEGF in reflection of increased portal hypertension or decreased hepatic regenerative activity or the combination of both.

Dr.Hsu SJ, the lead author said after the conclusion, "GTP appears to be an appropriate agent in controlling portal hypertension-related complications via anti-angiogenesis.

Taken together, Green tea extract containing major polyphenols such as EGCG may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk, progression, complications and treatment of liver cirrhosis. Intake of green tea supplement should be taken with special care to prevent acute toxicity.

Betacyanins Inhibits Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Vitro

Inflammation is a natural reaction of the immune system against the invasion of the foreign stimuli and pathogens with an aim to protect our body from infection.

In the acute phase of tissue damage or injury, after receiving the information from the neurotransmitters, the white blood cells that response for the first line of defense activate the production of blood platelets and the inflammatory cytokines to the site of infection to destroy the invasive agents.

However, in most cases, overproduction of inflammatory cytokines can damage the nearby cells that lead to improper healing with the formation of scars.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), a class of chronic conditions associated with the inflammation of the digestive tract, can be classified into

* Ulcerative colitis is found in the innermost lining of the colon and rectum.

* Crohn's disease is a type of IBD that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive tract, other than the colon and rectum.

Epidemiological studies suggested that patients with IBD are associated with the symptoms of severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, and weight loss. Long-term persistent symptoms such as weight loss may be life-threatening.

If you have experienced some of the aforementioned symptoms, please make sure to check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

The causes of IBD are unknown. The alternation of the ratio of gut microbiota may be the major culprit in facilitating the onset of IBD.

Dr. Becker C, the lead scientist wrote, "The intestinal microbiota has important metabolic and host-protective functions. Conversely, to these beneficial functions, the intestinal microbiota is thought to play a central role in the etiopathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD; Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), chronic inflammation of the gut mucosa".

Betacyanins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.

On finding a natural pigment for the prevention and treatment of colonic inflammation, researchers examined the effects of beetroot (Beta vulgaris var. Rubra) products and their major component betanin found in betacyanins in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

According to the tested assays,
* Betanin at the concentration of 100 μM for 24 h increased DNA damage in IBD patients' neutrophils. In other words, betanin exhibited cytotoxic activity against the neutrophils isolated from the blood of patients with inflammatory bowel disease--ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD), compared to those obtained in colon carcinoma-derived Caco-2 cells.
* Furthermore, betanin treatment in Caco-2 cells with H2O2 also caused a 4-fold increase of DNA strand breaks compared to untreated cells. More precisely, betanin elevated the expression of free radical H2O2 to cause cancer cell death.

* Moreover, pre-treatment with betanin was found to reduce DNA damage in healthy normal cells.

* Additonally, betanin also promoted the activity of procaspase and caspase pro-apoptotic activity to induce cancer cells apoptosis.

Based on the findings, Dr. the lead scientist said, "These results suggest that betanin may support mechanisms that lead to the release of ROS and apoptotic cell death. In this way, betanin may exert anti-inflammatory and potentially cancer-preventive activity".

Taken altogether, betacyanins processed abundantly bioactive ingredient betanin may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of liver steatosis, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of betacyanins in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea and Bioactive Polyphenols Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) in Protection Against Memory Deficits

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in protecting against memory deficits, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.ore

Memory deficit is a medical condition characterized lost of the ability in-store and recall past information, such as knowledge, sensation, thoughts,......

Lost of memory function is not only associated with normal aging progression in the adult population but considered as a feature of neurodegenerative diseases, including psychiatric and neurological disorders.

According to the Harvard neuro discovery center, today, approximately 5 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer's disease; 1 million from Parkinson's; 400,000 from multiple sclerosis (MS); 30,000 from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease), and 30,000 from Huntington's disease.

The evaluate green tea extract (GTex) and its major functional polyphenol (−)-epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) effect on memory of cerebral ischemic rats showed that green tea EGCG and pentoxifylline (PTX), a methylxanthine derivative with anti-inflammatory function, application after 1 hour demonstrates a strong efficacy in improved ishemic-induced memory impairment, according to Morris water maze test.

Long term treatment of green tea EGCG also displayed a significant increase level of antioxidant such as malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, glutathione (GSH), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity in the cerebral cortex and hippocampus, through prevented cerebral infraction breakdown of MDA and GSH in the hippocampus, in protected against damage to cellular components caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) including free radicals, peroxides, lipid peroxides....

Further analysis, green tea EGCG inhibited BV-2 microglial cells in the induction of brain inflammatory effect in precipitated neurodegeneration and neurotoxicology to facilitate memory impairment, through ameliorated the expression of lipopolysaccharide- (LPS-) in exhibited free radical nitric oxide production which is associated to in initiated neurotoxicity.

Additionally, the application also ameliorated the cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) expression associated with pro-inflammatory activities in mediated neurodegenerative processes of several acute and chronic diseases and expression of the inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), one of the direct consequences of an inflammatory process in the BV-2 cells.

In short, the experiment of cerebral ischemia animal model indicated that green extract and its active polyphenol EGCG improved learning and memory deficits through exhibited antioxidant activity in the reduction of oxidative stress and neuroinflammation.

Moreover, green tea Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) with beneficial effects on the impairment in learning and memory also demonstrated in increased autophagic activation in getting rid of damaged and dysfunctional cell accumulation to protect healthy neuron from stressful conditions, such as overexpression of ROS presentation, according to the experiment of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS)-induced cognitive impairment in rats and observed through the elevated LC3-II, a reliable method for monitoring autophagy and autophagy-related processes, including autophagic cell death. and p62 protein level, a useful marker for the induction of autophagy,

At the same time, the green tea EGCG also displayed a strong inhibition of increased neuronal loss and activated mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6k) signaling caused by implication of chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) in the CA1 regions in the hippocampal circuit in initiation of the pathophysiology of memory deficits, thus reducing amyloid beta1-42 (Aβ1-42) deposit, and restored autophagic degradation activity.

Mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR)/p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase (p70S6k) signaling pathway is an essential cellular signaling pathway involved a number of important physiological functions, including cell growth, proliferation, metabolism, protein synthesis, and autophagy.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) may be considered an adjunct therapy in reduced risk and enhanced standard medicine for the treatment of memory deficits.
