Yield: 2 serving (about 8 ounce each)
1 1/4 cups blueberry
1/4 cup acocado
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea, a slice of ginger and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes, and let cool to room temperature)


1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed. Add more green tea drink if needed

Recent studies by some well known institutions suggested that green tea(1), tomato(5) and green tea(8) may process phytochemicals and ingredients effectively in reduced risk and treatment of dementia.

Resveratrol, a phytochemical in the class of Stilbenoids, found abundantly in grape also inhibited symptoms of vascular dementia in postmenopausal elderly women, depending to chronic use manner(8). Dr. Hu J and colleagues at the Xiamen University, also found that resveratrol expressed its β-secretase inhibitor effect through inhibited β-secretase activity and β-amyloid generation in animal model(9).
Furthermore, the phytochemical also exerted its neuroprotective effects, through ameliorate the harmful effect against the expression of pro inflammatory cytokine pathways(10).

The identification of ingredient of Green Tea, Tomato and Grape may serve as a foundation for establish a potential and natural source for reduced early onset and treatment of dementia in sometime in the future.
People who are at increased risk of dementia due to family history and aging should drink at least 2 servings a day and people with dementia should drink as much as they can, depending to the digestive toleration. Change of life style and dietary pattern are recommended.

3. Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes
Streptococcus pneumoniae serotypes associated with colonization of the upper respiratory tract in young children. According to the study by Medical University of Lublin of the 342 pneumococcal isolates, the serotype coverage by PCV-10 or PCV-13 was 73.7% or 80.1%, respectively. In support to the effectiveness of esveratrol, the University of Hong Kong study, suggested intragastric administration of 2,3',4,4',5'-pentamethoxy-trans-stilbene (PMS) (25, 50 mg.kg(-1) body weight), a derivative of resveratrol for 16 weeks significantly reduced the multiplicity of colonic neoplasms by 15% and 35% respectively(9).

This discover of the effectiveness of Green Tea and grape phytochemicals may serve as cornerstones of pharmaceutical target for further studies in production of a potential medication for reduced risk and treatment of colitis with little or no adverse effects.

The smoothie for prevention and treatment of ulcerative colitis  
Yield: 2 servings (about 8 ounces each)
1 1/4 cups grape
1/4 cup artichoke
1 cup green tea drink (Make from 4 grams of green tea, and a cup of hot water lipped for 5 minutes. Set aside for cooling to room temperature)

1. Place all ingredients in a blender and puree about 1 minute
2. Blend on high speed about 1 minute or until the mixture is thick and the ice is well crushed. Add more green tea drink if needed
3. Serve immediately

Other study indicated that Influenza viruses cause annual outbreaks of respiratory tract infection with attack rates of 5-10%. During attack, strain-specific antibody responses are induced, which exert selective pressure on circulating influenza viruses and which drive antigenic drift of seasonal influenza viruses, especially in the hemagglutinin molecule. This antigenic drift necessitates updating of seasonal influenza vaccines regularly in order to match the circulating strains(5).

The Risk factors
1. Age
Young children and elder are susceptible to the infection by virus in cold and flu season as a result of immature and weakened immune system, accordingly.
2. Antibiotic resistance
Upper respiratory tract infections (URTIs) are common in children. The cause of URTIs is usually viral, but parents’ attitudes often contribute to inappropriate prescription of antibiotics, promoting antibiotic resistance. The risk factors of being a father, having low education, having immigrant status, being a single parent, having low income, having <2 or >3 children, living in the islands, and being without experience in recurrent URTIs were significantly associated to inadequate knowledge, inappropriate attitudes, and wrong practices(6).
