Health Benefits

1. Irritable bowel syndrome with constipation
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common functional disorder of the gastrointestinal system, and is characterized by abdominal pain, diarrhea (IBS/D), constipation (IBS/C), and alternating diarrhea and constipation (IBSC/A). Dr. Chang CC and scientists at Taipei Medical University, showed that kiwifruit consumption for 4 weeks shortens colon transit time, increases defecation frequency, and improves bowel function in adults diagnosed with IBS/C(1).

2. platelet aggregation and plasma lipids effects
In the evaluation of whether consuming kiwi fruit modulated platelet activity and plasma lipids in human volunteers in a randomized cross-over study, showed that consuming two or three kiwi fruit per day for 28 days reduced platelet aggregation response to collagen and ADP by 18% compared with the controls (P < 0.05). In addition, consumption of kiwi fruit lowered blood triglycerides levels by 15% compared with control (P < 0.05)(2).

3. Anti-oxidant effects
Kiwi fruit is rich in polyphenols and has immunostimulatory activity. From vivo by oral administration to mice in studying the potential anti-oxidant effects of kiwi fruit indicated that Comparison of the anti-oxidant effects in vitro demonstrated that kiwi fruit had stronger anti-oxidant effects than orange and grapefruit, which are rich in vitamin C; gold kiwi had the strongest anti-oxidant effects. Kiwi fruit inhibited oxidation of biological substances in the human body. In particular, kiwi fruit may inhibit early lipid oxidation(3).

4. Female reproductive hormones
In the investigation of the effectiveness of Chinese therapeutic food on female reproductive hormones in a double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. Chinese kiwi fruit extract (Hong En No. 1) was provided for Australian peri-menopausal women for one month, found that the patterns of disharmony mainly include Liver Qi stagnation and Liver-Kidney Yin deficiency patterns. No significant change observed in the control group, significant score reduction of the patterns of disharmony was achieved at post-trial in the treatment group, which indicates an improvement of general health condition(4).

Menorrhagia is defined as a condition of excessive bleeding in the menstruation phase of the menstrual cycle in the reproductive age of a woman leading to heavy blood loss that can interfere with the woman normal activities, as a result of disruption of normal hormonal regulation of periods or disorders of certain reproductive organs.

  The Secondary menorrhagia Hormone treatments

1. Contraceptive pill
a. Low-dose combination birth control pills which contains low-dose synthetic forms of the hormones estrogen and progesterone may be use to treat amenorrhea by controlling the menstrual cycle or bring the period back.
b. Risks and side effects
b.1. Growth of fibroids
Growth of fibroid is caused high level of estrogen and progesterone. The intake of the pill increase the level of both hormones resulting in increase the risk of growth of fibroid.
b.2. Recurrent of menstrual symptoms
Some women stop taking the pill may see all the menstrual symptoms coming back.
b3. Blood clots
Estrogen in the pill may cause blood clots in the small vessels in the leg and the lung.
b.4. Stroke and heart diseases
Study shows that women who have higher natural estrogen levels may have a higher risk of stroke and heart diseases.
b.5. Depression and mood swing
At the beginning, it may cause abnormal fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone elevate both physical and psychological stress, eventually resulting in both depression and mood swing
b.6. Bleeding and spotting
Bleeding and spotting is normal for the first six months for women who begin with any oral contraceptive combination pill treatment.
b.7. Lost interest in sex
Some women may experience lower sexual desire
b.8. Nutritional deficiency
Oral contraceptive pill causes vitamin and mineral imbalances or deficiencies.
b.9. Etc.

2. Norethisterone (Progesterone only pill)
Norethisterone a progestogen and has been used used treat premenstrual syndrome, painful periods, abnormal heavy bleeding, irregular periods. In a study of A comparative study of danazol and norethisterone in dysfunctional uterine bleeding presenting as menorrhagia M. Bonduelle, J.J. Walker and A.A. Caldert, researcher found that Since this study was undertaken, a report of
objective measurement of blood loss in small groups of patients9 casts further doubt on the
efficacy ofnorethisterone, although it confirms that of danazol. Since norethisterone is very widely used, a detailed assessment of its efficacy and safety in comparison to danazol is overdue. Should such a study confirm the findings discussed here then danazol could usefully be employed as first line therapy in the management of dysfunctional uterine bleeding presenting as menorrhagia.

3. Danazol
Danazol is synthetic steroid ethisterone, a modified testosterone that is used to inhibit ovarian steroidogenesis resulting in decreased secretion of estradiol and may increase androgens. although it is a standard medicine in treating menorrhagia
According the study of Efficacy of vaginal danazol treatment in women with menorrhagia during fertile age by Luisi S, Razzi S, Lazzeri L, Bocchi C, Severi FM, Petraglia F., researchers concluded that vaginal danazol resulted in effective medical treatment in young women with menorrhagia, and, because of a lack of significant adverse effects, it may be proposed as an alternative treatment.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.

You can calculate your BMI index BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries as resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and effecting fertility. It effects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.

The Studies of  Obesity and PCOS: implications for diagnosis and treatment

There appears to be an epidemic of both obesity and polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS) in the world today. According to the study by the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine, Hershey, posted in PubMed, Obesity is likely not a cause of PCOS, as the high prevalence of PCOS among relatively thin populations demonstrates. However, obesity does exacerbate many aspects of the phenotype, especially cardiovascular risk factors such as glucose intolerance and dyslipidemia. It is also associated with a poor response to infertility treatment and likely an increased risk for pregnancy complications in those women who do conceive. Although most treatments of obesity, with the exception of bariatric surgery, achieve modest reductions in weight and improvements in the PCOS phenotype, encouraging weight loss in the obese patient remains one of the front-line therapies.

                                 Dietary Minerals

Dietary Minerals are the group of minerals which is essential for our body to sustain normal functions and physical health.

                                      Calcium

Calcium, a trace mineral plays an important role in build and maintain strong bones and teeth, found abundantly in meat, poultry, fish, nut, seeds, bean, etc. As we age, calcium is absorbed less effectively.

      Calcium and aluminum salt

Most humans living in industrialized societies are routinely exposed to bioavailable aluminum salts in the form of additives-in commercially-prepared foods, alum-clarified drinking water, certain pharmaceuticals, sunscreens, and other topical applications. Minute amounts of this aluminum are absorbed into the circulation. Trace aluminum levels cross the blood-brain barrier and progressively accumulate in large pyramidal neurons of the hippocampus, cortex, and other brain regions vulnerable in Alzheimer's disease. According to the study by the St George Hospital Campus, intraneuronal aluminum interferes with Ca2+ metabolism in the aged brain and describes a way to test this hypothesis. This paper reviews: 1) major changes that occur in brain Ca2+ homeostasis and Ca2+ signaling, subtly with aging and more overtly in Alzheimer's disease; and 2) evidence from the scientific literature that aluminum causes these same changes in neurons(9).

                                   Colitis

Colitis is defined as a condition of inflammation of the large intestine, including the colon, caecum and rectum.

                             Types of Colitis

According to the study by Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, types of colitis include
microscopic colitis, ischemic colitis, segmental colitis associated with diverticula, radiation colitis, diversion colitis, eosinophilic colitis and Behcet's colitis(a).

The do and do not's list

The do and do not's list
1. Although infect millioms people every day, Infectious colitis as a result of bacterial and viral infection are difficault to inthird world due poor sanitation, poor hand washing and poor kitchen hygiene. Wash your hands before handle food.

2. Enhance your inmmune system
Excercise, proper diet, eating foods contain high amounts of antioxidant can be helpful.

3. Quit smoking
Although the incidence and severity of ulcerative colitis (UC) are higher in nonsmokers than in smokers(44), it is a remarkable risk factor for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), aggravating Crohn's disease (CD)(45). Smoking can suppress the inmune system and enhance the production of free radicals of that can lead to infectous causes of colitis.

4. Although inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), in most case as a result of heredity. According to the study by Vanderbilt University Medical Center, intake of semi-essential amino acid, L-arginine (L-Arg), a complementary medicine purported to be an enhancer of immunity may improves responses to injury and inflammation in dextran sulfate sodium colitis(46).

5. Protect youself from chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, and diabetes(47)(48) as tthey increase the risk of reducing blood circulation, cauisng ischemic colitis by eating plenty fruits and vegetibles and reducing intake of fat and transfat.

6. Take your herbs with care
there is a severe, progressive case of acute ischaemic colitis related temporally to the recent ingestion of a sibutramine-containing herbal slimming agent procured on-line without prescription or medical indication in a young female that ultimately required emergency laparoscopic total colectomy with end ileostomy to prevent end organ failure(49).

7. Protect your arteries
Narrowing of the blood vessels to the bowel can increase the risk of venous thrombosis and colitis. There is a report of case of a 22-year-old woman is reported who presented with an exacerbation of ulcerative colitis and developed extensive arterial and venous thrombosis. Good clinical improvement was achieved after treatment with steroids, sulfasalazine, and anticoagulation with enoxaparin followed by long-term warfarin(50).

8. Others
According to the study by Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, high FSS foods were characterized by high levels of the anti-thiamin additive sulfite (Mann-Whitney, p < 0.001), i.e. bitter, white wine, burgers, soft drinks from concentrates, sausages, lager and red wine. Caffeine also has anti-thiamin properties and decaffeinated coffee was associated with a better clinical state than the caffeinecontaining version. Beneficial foods (average intake per week) included pork (210 g), breakfast cereals (200 g), lettuce (110 g), apples and pears (390 g), milk (1250 ml), melon (350 g), bananas (350 g), bacon (120 g), beef and beef products (500 g), tomatoes (240 g), soup (700 g), citrus fruits (300 g), fish (290 g), yogurt (410 g), cheese (110 g), potatoes (710 g) and legumes (120 g)(51).

                    Overcome Infertility

Infertility is defined as inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It effects over 5 millions couple alone in the U. S. and many times more in the world. Because of unawareness of treatments, only 10% seeks help from professional specialist.

Sperm Penetration Assay (Hamster Test of Male Infertility In Conventional medicine Perspective

I. Definition
With the hamster egg stripping off the outer layer, the test is to check the ability of the infertile male sperm in egg penetration.

II. Procedure
This test is done in clinic laboratory with semen sperm taken through masturbation. The hamster egg is stripped off the outer layer and the sperm of infertile male is put into a tube.

III. Diagnosis
After a certain time, the combination in the tube is checked for
1. If the penetration rate is anywhere higher than 10%, the semen sperm is considered to have a good chance to penetrate the human egg for fertilization.

2. If the penetration rate is less than 10%, the risk in human egg penetrating is diminished and the rate in fertilizing the female partner egg is decreased substantially.
The test is normal used if the male partner is having symptoms of low sperm count, a healthy man with unexplained causes of infertility.

IV. Risk
Although the test is considered very accurate, but inability to penetrate the hamster egg does not imply the sperm can not penetrate the human egg.

Phytochemials are defined as a group of chemical compound found naturally in plants, including fruits, vegetables, beans, grains, etc. Many studies have proven that they can because of certain phytochemicals, but for what ever reason, there are either no clinical trials follow through or the studies can not make to stage of clinical trials. Do not expect the pharmateutical or foods industrial companies to pay for the researches, as the discovery of the phytochemicals to cure cancers can only dampen the profits of both industries as phytochemicals can not be patented.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body, have become progressively worse and damaged other healthy tissues, sometimes spreads to other organs in the body via lymph or blood and results may be in death.
Food intake can help to prevent and treat cancers.

             Larynx (Voice Box) Cancer/Laryngeal Cancer

Larynx is also known as voice box, located between the pharynx and the trachea. Its function is to ensure the airways are open and when we breath and talk and closed when we swallow to ensure no food gets into the trachea.

Larynx Cancer or Laryngeal Cancer
Larynx cancer is also known as cancer of the larynx or laryngeal carcinoma and can develop in any part of the larynx. Most larynx cancers are squamous cell carcinomas as a result of uncontrolled multiplication of transformed malignant cells in the laryngeal epithelium originated in the glottis.

Types of Foods to prevent and treat Larynx Cancer or Laryngeal Cancer
1. Green tea
In the study to evaluated the potential cytotoxic and prooxidative effects of green tea extract and its two main flavonoid constituents epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and epicatechin gallate (ECG) on human laryngeal carcinoma cell line (HEp2) and its cross-resistant cell line CK2, showed that EGCG and green tea extract increased the DNA damage in the CK2 cell line during short exposure. The cytotoxicity of EGCG and ECG increased with the time of incubation. Green tea extract induced lipid peroxidation in the CK2 cell line(1).

2. Grape and Red Wine
Flavonoids found abundantly in wine have exerted the potential effect in preventing and treating Laryngeal Cancer. Dr. Garavello W and the research team at the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri, indicated that Significant inverse relations were found for the highest versus the lowest quintile of intake for flavan-3-ols (OR = 0.64), flavanones (OR = 0.60), flavonols (OR = 0.32) and total flavonoids (OR = 0.60), although the overall trends in risk were significant only forflavanones and flavonols. No consistent associations were observed for isoflavones, anthocyanidins and flavones. The estimates did not differ substantially across strata of alcohol drinking, tobacco smoking, body mass index and education, and tended to persist even after controlling for vegetable and fruit intake(2).

3. Romaine lettuce and mustard greens
Romaine lettuce, mustard greens and other green vegetable contains a highest amount of folate among other vegetable and fruits. Folate deficiency has been linked to risk of several cancers, In the study of Folate intake and risk of oral and pharyngeal cancer, showed that the protective role of folate against oral and pharyngeal carcinogenesis. Compared with low folate intake, a consistent reduction in risk was already observed from intermediate levels of intake, suggesting that cancer risk may be related to relative folate deficiency(3).
Other researchers suggested that the addition of a serving per day of fruit or vegetables was associated with an about 50% reduction in oral cancer risk. The most favourable diet for oral cancer risk is therefore given by infrequent consumption of red and processed meat and eggs and, most of all, frequent vegetable and fruit intake. Diet diversity was inversely related to oral and pharyngeal cancer: ORs were 0.35 for the highest tertile of total diversity, 0.24 for vegetable and 0.34 for fruit diversity. In terms of attributable risk, high meat intake accounted for 49% of oral and pharyngeal cancers in this population, low vegetable intake for 65% and low fruit intake for 54%(4).

4. Olive oil
In the study of the role of foods and nutrients on oral and pharyngeal cancer risk, found that the results were not consistent for other foods, including meat, fish, eggs, milk and dairy products, but it is now possible to exclude a strong relation with oral and pharyngeal cancer risk. Data are also reassuring for coffee and tea, while hot maté drinking has been related to increased risk in studies from Argentina and Brazil. There is no consistent association with total fat intake, butmonounsaturated fats (and olive oil) have resulted inversely related to risk. In developed countries, selected aspects of diet may account for 20% to 25% of oral and pharyngeal cancers(5).
