                                     Tea Tree oil

Tea Tree oil is an essential oil with pale yellow color made from the leaves of the Narrow-leaved Tea-tree which is in the genus belonging to the family Myrtaceae, native to the northeast coast of New South Wales, Australia. The herb has been used in the traditional medicine as topical to treat acne, fungal infections, parasites, bacteria infection, relieve pain, etc.

Health Benefits
1. Mild to moderate acne vulgaris
In the determination of the efficacy of 5% tea tree oil in mild to moderate acne vulgaris, found that There was a significant difference between tea tree oil gel and placebo in the improvement of the TLC and also regarding improvement of the ASI. In terms of TLC and ASI, tea tree oil gel was 3.55 times and 5.75 times more effective than placebo respectively. Side-effects with both groups were relatively similar and tolerable and suggested that topical 5% tea tree oil is an effective treatment for mild to moderate acne vulgaris, according to "The efficacy of 5% topical tea tree oil gel in mild to moderate acne vulgaris: a randomized, double-blind placebo-controlled study" by Enshaieh S, Jooya A, Siadat AH, Iraji F.(1)

2. Acne
In the classification of plant extracts and isolated compounds, used increasingly in cosmetics and food supplements to improve skin conditions, indicated that Greentea extract and tea tree oil have been investigated in the treatment of acne. ..., according to "Which plant for which skin disease? Part 1: Atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, condyloma and herpes simplex.[Article in English, German]" by Reuter J, Wölfle U, Weckesser S, Schempp C.(2)

3. Skin inflammation
In the investigation of the anti-inflammatory properties of tea tree oil on histamine-induced weal and flare, found that application of liquid paraffin had no significant effect on histamine-induced weal and flare. There was also no difference in mean flare area between control arms and those on which tea tree oil was applied. However, mean weal volume significantly decreased after tea tree oil application (10 min after tea tree oil application, P = 0.0004, Mann-Whitney U-test), according to "Tea tree oil reduces histamine-induced skin inflammation" by Koh KJ, Pearce AL, Marshman G, Finlay-Jones JJ, Hart PH.(3)

4. Edema
In the evaluation of the effect of topically applied tea tree oil (TTO) on histamine-induced oedema in the ears of mice, found that topical application of TTO, and in particular terpinen-4-ol, may be effective in controlling histamine-induced oedema often associated with Type I allergic immediate hypersensitivities, according to "Tea tree oil reduces histamine-induced oedema in murine ears" by Brand C, Townley SL, Finlay-Jones JJ, Hart PH.(4)

5. Anti tumors
In the examination the anticancer activity of Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oil(TTO) in vitro and its major active terpene component, terpinen-4-ol, against two aggressive murine tumour cell lines, AE17 mesothelioma and B16 melanoma, found that TTO and terpinen-4-ol had significant anti-proliferative activity against two tumour cell lines. Moreover, the identification of primary necrotic cell death and cell cycle arrest of the aggressive tumour cells highlights the potential anticancer activity of TTO and terpinen-4-ol., according to "Induction of necrosis and cell cycle arrest in murine cancer cell lines by Melaleuca alternifolia (tea tree) oiland terpinen-4-ol" by Greay SJ, Ireland DJ, Kissick HT, Levy A, Beilharz MW, Riley TV, Carson CF.(5)

6. Tinea pedis
In the identification of tea tree oil (an essential oil derived primarily from the Australian native Melaleuca alternifolia) and its efficacy in fungal infections, found that tea tree oil cream (10% w/w) appears to reduce the symptomatology of tinea pedis as effectively as tolnaftate 1% but is no more effective than placebo in achieving a mycological cure. This may be the basis for the popular use of tea tree oil in the treatment of tinea pedis, according to "Tea tree oil in the treatment of tinea pedis" by Tong MM, Altman PM, Barnetson RS.(6)

7. Anti microbial effects
In the demonstration of Melaleuca alternifolia oil (tea tree oil) and its promising efficacy in treating these infections, found that tea tree oil has been effective as an adjunctive therapy in treating osteomyelitis and infected chronic wounds in case studies and small clinical trials, according to "Staphylococcus aureus and wounds: a review of tea tree oil as a promising antimicrobial" by Halcón L, Milkus K.(7)

8. Ocular itching
In the assessment of twenty-four patients with ocular itching and ocular Demodex were treated with chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment lid massage for 4 weeks and then treatment was switched to TTOO for another 4 weeks, found that after 4 weeks of chlortetracycline hydrochloride eye ointment treatment, little changes were observed regarding itching and Demodex counts in all patients (P > 0.05). In contrast, after 5% TTOO treatment, 16 patients were totally free of itching and the remaining 8 patients had different degrees of relief (P < 0.01). The Demodex count decreased to 0.7 ± 0.8 for total (P < 0.01), according to "Treatment of ocular itching associated with ocular demodicosis by 5% tea tree oil ointment" by Gao YY, Xu DL, Huang J, Wang R, Tseng SC.(8)

9. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus
In the review of tea tree oil is capable of killing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in a laboratory setting, found that researched the effectiveness oftea tree oil preparations against MRSA. One small RCT (n = 30) showed a large but non-significant improvement at eradicating MRSA compared to traditional treatment, whereas a larger study (n = 224) demonstrated little difference in rates of eradication overall (41% for tea tree and 49% for mupirocin, p = 0.286). However, the larger study found that those with nasal colonization receiving a teatree regimen were more likely to remain colonized with MRSA in the nose, according to "Is tea tree oil effective at eradicating MRSA colonization? A review" by Flaxman D, Griffiths P.(9)

                    Overcome Infertility

Infertility is defined as inability of a couple to conceive after 12 months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It effects over 5 millions couple alone in the U. S. and many times more in the world. Because of unawareness of treatments, only 10% seeks help from professional specialist.

Antisperm antibody test  of Female Infertility In Conventional medicine Perspective

The antisperm antibody test is one of procedure which helps to see the antigens of the immune system function toward sperm invasion through blood test. If the immune system recognized or not the sperm as the foreign object, it will produces white blood cells to kill them.

 Procedure
Blood is withdrawn from a vein in the arm of the infertile female in the clinic laboratory and is to analyzed by immunologic infertility specialist.

 Diagnosis
The test uses a sample of sperm and adds a substance that binds only to the test sperm.
Semen sample causes the immune system response in either the man's or woman's body. If there is an injure somewheres in the body or inflammation caused by irregular cell adhesion or implants such as endometriosis or sexual transmitted diseases infection which may stimulate the production of white blood. The white blood cells can damage or kill sperm if a high number of sperm antibodies is found leading to immunologic infertility.
Women may have an allergic reaction to her partner's semen and make sperm antibodies leading to faultily recognizing the sperm as foreign invasion, thereby producing high a mount of antibody to kill them leading to infertility. This kind of immune response is not fully understood and happens only to small percentage of infertility couple. It is said that this kind of abnormal function can be treated by controlling the allergic reaction if the causes are found.

Oligomenorrhea is an irregular menstruation and defined as a condition of infrequent period or a woman menstrual period does not occur at a interval of greater than 35 days.

                        The Causes

1. Perimenopause
As a woman approaches the perimenopause stage, menstrual cycle is disturbed due to lower production of sex hormones as a result of irregular response of ovaries to the higher amount FSH produced by pituitary gland.

2. Benign tumor
Adenomas grows at the anterior pituitary gland can affect the function of the gland in secretion of either FSH or LH that can lead to loss of normal menstrual cycles including oligomenorrhea.

3. Certain diseases
a. Hyperthyroidist can cause Oligomenorrhea as a result of over production of thyroid hormone, leading to lightening less often of menstrual flow.
b. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
According to the article of Oligomenorrhea posted at the free dictionary by Farlex, the author wrote that Women with PCOS show menstrual irregularities that range from oligomenorrhea and amenorrhea on the one hand to very heavy, irregular periods on the other. The condition affects about 6% of premenopausal women and is related to excess androgen production.

Due to to excess androgen production.
c. Graves disease
Graves disease is an autoimmune disease with overactive the thyroid gland causing production an excessive amount of thyroid hormones, that leads to oligomenorrhea.

4. Intensive exercise
Intensive exercise can affect the women reproductive physiology, that can lead to irregular menstruation including Oligomenorrhea. In study of Reproductive system function in women cross-country runners." by Wakat DK, Sweeney KA, Rogol AD., researchers found that Evaluation of seven runners from one school who qualified for the national meet (1 amenorrheic, 5 oligomenorrheic, and 1 normal) revealed that the basal estrogen, progesterone, prolactin, and thyroid hormone levels were normal and that there were normal luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone responses to synthetic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). These data are consistent with an alteration of hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian function above the level of the pituitary.

6. Breast feeding
Breast feeding can increase the risk of oligomenorrhea, due to delay of ovulation as a result of hormonal change.

7. Eating disorders
Eating disorder that can affect your monthly cycle as a result of irregular menstruation. According to the article of "Eating disorders may disrupt menstruation" By Anne Harding, posted in Reuters, the author wrote that any type of eating disorder can boost a woman's likelihood of having irregular menstrual periods, a new study confirms in a survey of 1,705 women participating in a genetic study who met strict diagnostic criteria for eating disorders, Bulik and her team found menstrual irregularities including absence of periods, skipping periods, and very light periods among women with every subtype of eating disorder, including bulimia nervosa.

Obesity is a medical condition of excess body fat accumulated overtime, while overweight is a condition of excess body weight relatively to the height. According to the Body Mass Index(BMI), a BMI between 25 to 29.9 is considered over weight, while a BMI of over 30 is an indication of obesity. According to the statistic, 68% of American population are either overweight or obese.

You can calculate your BMI index BMI= weight (kg)/ height (m2)

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is defined as endocrinologic diseases caused by undeveloped follicles clumping on the ovaries that interferes with the function of the normal ovaries as resulting of enlarged ovaries, leading to hormone imbalance( excessive androgen), resulting in male pattern hair development, acne, irregular period or absence of period, weight gain and effecting fertility. It effects over 5% of women population or 1 in 20 women.

The Studies of  Overweight, obesity and central obesity in women with polycystic ovary syndrome

In the study to to describe the prevalence of overweight, obesity and centralobesity in women with and without PCOS and to assess the confounding effect of ethnicity, geographic regions and the diagnostic criteria of PCOS on the prevalence, by the University of Adelaide, Adelaide, posted in PubMed, showed that women with PCOS had a greater risk of overweight, obesity and centralobesity. Although our findings support a positive association between obesity and PCOS, our conclusions are limited by the significant heterogeneity between studies and further studies are now required to determine the source of this heterogeneity. Clinical management of PCOS should include the prevention and management of overweight and obesity.

                                   Colitis

Colitis is defined as a condition of inflammation of the large intestine, including the colon, caecum and rectum.

                             Types of Colitis

According to the study by Catholic University of the Sacred Heart, types of colitis include
microscopic colitis, ischemic colitis, segmental colitis associated with diverticula, radiation colitis, diversion colitis, eosinophilic colitis and Behcet's colitis(a).

          The Chemical colitis - Treatments

1. Glutaraldehyde induced colitis presents clinically with severe abdominal pain, bloody and mucoid diarrhea, rectal bleeding, and tenesmus 48-72 h after colonoscopy. Endoscopic findings are nonspecific and mimic ischemic colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, and infectious colitis. According to the study by. the treatment is mainly supportive but sometimes necessitates mesalamine, prednisolone, or metronidazole and the resolution is rapid. In endoscopy units, strict adherence to published disinfection protocols is very important and the cleaning, rinsing and drying protocols also deserve the same attention
a. Mesalamine
Mesalazine (INN, BAN), also known as mesalamine (USAN) or 5-aminosalicylic
acid (5-ASA). In the study to assess the experimental colitis induced by rectal instillation of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) into male Wistar rats, found that the loading of 5-ASA into SucCH polymer markedly improved efficacy in the healing of induced colitis in rats(90).

b. Prednisolone and Metronidazole
Prednisolone is a synthetic form of lucocorticoid, used to treat a variety of inflammatory and auto-immune conditions and Metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial cause of infection in your body.. According to the study by, the treatment is mainly supportive but sometimes necessitates mesalamine, prednisolone, or metronidazole and the resolution is rapid. In endoscopy units, strict adherence to published disinfection protocols is very important and the cleaning, rinsing and drying protocols also deserve the same attention(91).

c. Pregnane X Receptor (PXR)
Pregnane X Receptor (PXR), a master regulator of drug metabolism and inflammation, is abundantly expressed in the gastrointestinal tract. In the study by Albert Einstein College of Medicine, to investigate the role these flavonoids play in inhibiting gut inflammation by an axis involving PXR and other potential factors, found that Baicalein, but not its glucuronidated metabolite baicalin, activates PXR in a Cdx2-dependent manner in vitro, in human colon carcinoma LS174T cells, and in the murine colon in vivo. While both flavonoids abrogate dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-mediated colon inflammation in vivo, oral delivery of a potent bacterial β-glucuronidase inhibitor eliminates baicalin's effect on gastrointestinal inflammation by preventing the microbial conversion of baicalin to baicalien(92).

2. Certain chemicals such as TUDCA and PBA alleviate different forms of colitis in mice(93), including inflammatory bowel diseases, Ischemic colitis(94), etc.Treatment of such diseases depending to the development of types of colitis.

                                        Autism

Autism is one of the most common forms of brain development disorder and one in 166 child is diagnosed with some forms of autism. Children who are diagnosed with autism tend to have weak immune system and auto immune problems. Autism is defined as medical condition in which a child has some of the following impairments
a) Speech
b) Social and communication skills
c) Limited interest
d) Repetitive behaviour

Types of nutritional supplement and how they help to treat autism

A. Vitamins
a) Vitamin A
Vitamin A helps to prevent the forming of free radical and improve immune function. It is an important vitamin, because most children with autism have weakened immune system, it is said that vitamin A helps to support immune memory and improve eye contact and behaviour of children with autism, if taking together with vitamin D.

b) Vitamin B complex
Vitamin B complex is a family vitamin, including thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), pyridoxine (B6) , folic acid (B9) cyanocobalamin (B12) and choline. They work together to enhance function of the others, therefore deficiency of one B vitamin may reduce the effectiveness of the others. Vitamin B complex helps to improve function of nervous system and glands by creating enzymes needed by the brain.
i) Vitamin B1
Besides assisting the proper functioning of the heart, it also helps to improve the brain and central nerve system cells' function in transmitting information. Study shows that vitamins B1 helps to improve test scores for children with autism. It can be found in Green, leafy vegetables, including spinach and peas.
ii) Vitamin B2
Besides it is important for helps for building healthy DNA, it also helps to improve mental function and control stress by increasing the production of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase which is a rare genetic defect in some children with autism.
iii) Vitamin B3
Besides it is important for the production energy metabolism, it also helps to increases cerebral blood flow, thereby decreasing the risks of nervous symptoms such as emotional problems, irritability, memory loss, etc.
iv) Vitamin B6
It is said that vitamin B6 decreases behavioural problems, improves eye contact and attention span, and learning ability for children with autism, if working together with magnesium.
v) Folic acid
Folic acid also known as vitamin B9, it is vital in maintaining healthy brain, cell production and DNA duplication. Most children with autism are found to have folic acid deficiency, resulting in neurological problems, including slow thinking, depression, memory loss and digestive disorder.
vi) Vitamin B 12
Besides helping to improve the absorption of all essential nutrients into the body, it also enhances the proper function of the nervous system and the brain to work as they should, thereby decreasing the risks of nervous symptoms, including developmental regression, memory problems, slow thinking, anxiety and depression.

c) Vitamin C
Besides best known for its antioxidant in fighting against the forming of free radicals and bacteria and virus, it is also crucial to brain function. Some studies show that vitamin C helps to remove toxins from our body as well as heavy metals accumulated in the brain. In some studies vitamin C increases the IQ scores in normal and Down's children and decreases confusion and depression for children with autism.

d) Vitamin E
Study shows that vitamin E helps to improve verbal speech for children with autism, if taking together with Omega 3 fatty acid.

                                 Dietary Minerals

Dietary Minerals are the group of minerals which is essential for our body to sustain normal functions and physical health.

                                      Chromium(chromium 3+)

Chromium(chromium 3+) is a essential mineral for the body in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, found abundantly in Beef, Eggs, Chicken, Oysters, Wheat germ, Green peppers, Banana, Apple, Etc.

Cr supplementation as a growth enhancer

In a growth trial conducted on juvenile mirror carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) for 8 weeks and to compare the efficacy of three chromium (Cr) compounds (Cr chloride, Cr picolinate, and Cr yeast) at a level 0.5 mg/kg as a potential growth enhancer, showed that there is a significantly (P < 0.05) increased DNA damage in fish fed on high level of Cr chloride (2.0 mg/kg) but the other treatments were not significantly different (P > 0.05) from the control groups. The concentration of Cr in the liver, gut, and whole fish tissues increased with increasing dietary Cr supplementation. Overall, Cr supplementation at a level 0.5 mg/kg from different sources may affect growth performance in carp by activation of some key liver enzymes (HK and G6PD)(9).
