The Potent Functional Beverage Which Protects Your Lung Against The Onset of Pneumonia, Medline Studies Find

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in inhibiting the onset of pneumonia, some scientists suggested.

Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. The disease may be contagious, as it can spread from person to person, depending to types infectious pathogens.

However, pneumonia induced by fungal passed from the environment to human is not contagious from person to person.

Bacteria Gram-positive cocci. Streptococcus pneumonia is most causes of community-acquired pneumonia in adults and Haemophilus influenza is the second most common cause of bacterial pneumonia.

Additionally, people who have a weakened immune system, are hospitalized or being on a ventilator. and smoking is most likely to be infected the disease.

Certain chronic medical condition including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, structural lung disease, and heart disease are found to associate with an increased risk of pneumonia.

The common symptoms of include chest pain when you breathe or a cough, persistent coughing, fatigue. fever, sweating and shaking chills. If you over the age of 50, you may also have the symptoms of confusion or changes in mental awareness'

According to the statistic, the disease affects over approximately 450 million people a year, in all parts of the world.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In the investigation of green tea bioactive polyphenol catechins activity in the inhibition of infectious agents, researchers at the Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine launched a population-based cohort study, with follow-up from 1995 to 2006, using the database of National Health Insurance beneficiaries in Japan (19,079 men and 21,493 women aged 40-79 y).

Participants with missing reports of green tea consumption and a history of cancer, myocardial infarction, stroke, and extreme daily energy intake at baseline were excluded.

The comparison of green tea intake and the risk of death in patients with inflammatory pneumonia was analyzed according to the Cox proportional hazards regression analysis.

According to the review, after 12 years of follow up, researchers found that participants who drink <1, 1-2 cups/d, 3-4 and > or =5 cups/d expressed a reduced risk of the hazard of 1, 0.59, 0.55, 0.53, respectively.

These results indicated that green tea intake was associated with the significantly lower risk of death in patients with pneumonia.

Also, the results of the efficacy of green tea increased substantially and linearly to numbers of cup consumed per day.
Further analysis to confirm the inhibitory effects of tea polyphenols on Chlamydia trachomatis and C. pneumonia. In vitro, researchers at the Saitama Medical School, Iruma conducted an experiment of injection of tea polyphenols, Polyphenon 70S into Chlamydial strains including C. trachomatis D/UW-3/Cx and L(2)/434/Bu, and C. pneumonia AR-39 and AC-43 strains cultivated in cells and HL cells.

At the final phase of the experiment, researchers indicated that in the pre-inoculation method, application of Polyphenon 70S Completely inhibits both straits without inducing any adverse effects.

However, in the post-inoculation method, injection of Polyphenon 70S at a dose of at 0.5 mg/ml demonstrated no inclusive effect against of C. trachomatis but induced toxicity to HeLa229 cells and HL cells at a concentration of 0.25 mg/ml.

Additional differentiation concluded that application of tea polyphenols may be considered as a potential topical usage.

Interestingly, in the study to clarify the in vitro effect of EGCG on C. pneumonia mediated IgE responses by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) in asthma by using PBMC from subjects with asthma and non-asthmatic controls incubated with C. pneumonia and cultured for 10 days ±EGCG (0.5, 5.0, 50 ng/mL), with IgE levels of PBMC from non-asthmatics of <2.0 ng/mL) at baseline scientists showed that application of EGCG (0.5-50 ng/mL) displays a significant inhibitory effect of PBMC from the asthma patient, by suppressing the IgE production in a dose-dependent manner (10-30%), compared to no EGCG treatment group.

More importantly, injection of green tea EGCG exerted insignificant effect against PBMC from non-asthmatics incubated with C. pneumoniae as the IgE levels are undetectable (<2.0 ng/mL).

These results suggest that green tea EGCG demonstrated a cell protective activity against bacterial invasion through its cytotoxicity without causing harm to nearby healthy cells.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may be considered as functional food in amelioration of the risk and treatment of pneumonia. Intake of green tea supplement should be taken with extreme care, as acute liver toxicity was reported in numbers of cases.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the beverage during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of green tea anti-pneumonia possibilities.

Yoga Intervention Alleviates Symptoms By Improving Lung Functions of Patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Yoga may be used as an integrated form of exercise in the treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, a randomized controlled study suggested.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)) is the third leading cause of death in the United State, inducing symptoms of breathlessness and fatigue and making physical activity more challenging.

COPD is a chronic condition caused by lung inflammation that obstructs the airflow from the lungs.

Most common symptoms of COPD are breathing difficulty, cough, mucus (sputum) production,.... and wheezing.

According to the statistic, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects about 32 million persons in the United States.

Conventional treatment of COPD focuses on the management to improve patients' functional status and quality of life by preserving remained lung function, according to Medscape

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement,.... and gesture.....

The technique is well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In a randomized trial with two study arms (yoga and control) of total of 81 coal miners enrolled, ranging from 36 to 60 years with stage II and III stable COPD, assigned either on conventional treatment or combination of conventional care with yoga program for 12 weeks, after review the returned questionnaire, researchers found that
* Compared to other groups, yoga group displays strong improvements of COPD on all scales.

*Also, Compared to the conventional treatment group, yoga group expresses significantly positive effects in both physical and mental health status.

Dr. Ranjita R, the led researchers said, "Yoga seems to be a safe, feasible, and effective treatment for patients with COPD".

More profoundly, in the evaluated 43 patients with symptomatic, moderate-to-severe COPD assigned to the 12 weeks of pranayama plus education versus education alone taught by 2 yoga professionals, researchers indicated the following results
* Yoga group shows a strong performance in the 6-min walk distance (6MWD), compared to education the only group.

* Yoga also displays small improvements in inspiratory capacity and air trapping.

Researchers, after adjusting to other risk factors said, "Both groups had significant improvements in various measures of symptoms, but no overall differences in respiratory system impedance or markers of oxidative stress or systemic inflammation".

Truly, yoga posture and breathing practices improve blood circulation to the lung and muscle of the organ function, thus increasing the air flow to the lung in the absorption of volumes of oxygen for the body needs.

With the additional supply of oxygen to the blood, patients with COPD not only can increase walking distance but also can perform other physical activity. Thus, enhancing the quality of life, including mental health.

In other words, yoga intervention significantly enhances inspiratory capacity and air trapping and improves the central nervous system in the regulation of certain hormones which have the functions in the stimulation of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory expressions.

The efficacy of yoga mentioned on the above is also supported by the evaluated the effects of yoga training on the quality of life (QOL) and the parameters of lung function in patients with COPD of 33 patients with COPD satisfied with study criteria selected, after attending yoga exercises including breathing exercises, meditation, and yoga postures for 1 hour, thrice a week for 6 weeks by a certified yoga therapists.

Compared to conventional treatment
* Yoga intervention showed an impressive improvement of vital capacity (95% CI 2.53-7.65), maximal inspiratory pressure, and maximal expiratory pressure, observed for the St. George Respiratory Questionnaire.

* The intervention also expressed short-term benefits in enhancing QOL and lung function

Taking all together, yoga may be used as a secondary form of exercise combined with standard therapy for ameliorated symptoms and treatment for COPD patients.

The Beverages That Block and Reverse the Onset of Dyspepsia, Naturally, Researchers Reveal

Black and green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect on the prevention of dyspepsia, some scientists suggested.

Dyspepsia is a digestive condition of ingestion.

The exact causes of dyspepsia are unknown. However, researchers suggested that patients with the onset of a stomach ulcer or acid reflux disease are most susceptible to the condition.

Certain medication such as aspirin, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics (metronidazole, macrolides) and diseases such as irritable bowel syndrome is associated with an increased risk of dyspepsia.

Some researchers also suggested that unhealthy choice of lifestyle such as smoking, excessive alcohol drinking also have a strong impact on the onset of the disease.

Dr. Umapati C. Baragi, the lead scientist in the study of diet and lifestyle in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta (non-ulcer dyspepsia) said, "dietary patterns, lifestyle choices, and physical activities play an important role in the etiopathogenesis of Urdhwaga Amlapitta, and it is important for patients to have access to diet and lifestyle modifications. Currently, research in this area is minimal"

Symptoms of dyspepsia include pain in the chest, stomach burning pain, bloating, heartburn, upset stomach,.... digestive discomforts.

If you experience the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Black tea is a beverage with more oxidization, compared to other teas such as oolong, green, and white teas.
In the investigation of aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins isolated from green tea effects in sildenafnil-induced delay in gastric emptying (GE) and small intestinal transit (SIT) in total of 160 mice, randomly assigned to 20 groups with 8 in each group, treated by different or combination of doses of BTE, thearubigins (TRs), sildenafil (SLD), metoclopramide, L-NAME (hydrochloride) and black tea extract researchers found that pretreatment of certain doses of green tea aqueous extract (BTE) and thearubigins significantly reverse motility-delaying effects caused by injection of sildenafnil.

Further differentiation also indicated that additional injection of black tea at 3% and 4.5% increases function of thearubigins (50 and 60 mg/kg) dose-dependently in promoted dyspepsia in mice in compared to the insignificant effect of the combination of BTE at 6% and thearubigins 70 mg/kg.

Moreover, combination of metoclopramide, a medicine used mainly for treatment of ingestion in people with delayed stomach emptying, BTE 4.5%, thearubigins 60 or nω -Nitro-l-arginine methyl ester hydrochloride (l-NAME) with sildenafil (5 mg/kg) reversed its motility-delaying effects,

This improvement of dyspepsia was partially blocked by application of l-NAME through reducing function nitric oxide and improving gastrointestinal smooth muscle mobility by observation of the pretreatment of l-NAME followed by application of BTE alone or combination of thearubigins 60, BTE + sildenafil, and thearubigins + sildenafil.

Dr. Murad HA, the lead author, after taking into account confounders said, "BTE 4.5% or TRs 60 mg/kg solution could be considered a reliever therapy for the sildenafil-induced dyspepsia".

Additional investigate the role of hot water extract of black tea [Camellia sinensis (L) in normalizing the changes in the intestinal transit and gastric emptying induced by various ulcerogenic agents in experimental rats found that application of black tea extract significant promotes the intestinal transit and gastric emptying caused by glutathione (GSH) depleting agents, diethyl maleate (DEM) in decreased mucosal content in aid of digestion, indoacetamide (IDA) in reduced stomach acid secretion, gastritis, and mucus thickness on gastric transfer and N-ethyl maleimide (NEM) with function of in significantly reduced the mucosal SH levels and the lesions.

Oral administration of black tea extract (BTE) at 20 ml/kg of a 10% solution once a day for 7 days also expressed a significantly increased the intestinal transit and gastric emptying similarly to those of conventional succimer (60 mg/kg, i.g.), the standard sulfhydryl containing an antiulcer agent
through the restoration of antioxidant of serum GSH level.

However, such increase of intestinal transit induced by BTE was reversed both by N-omega-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) (25 mg/kg, i.p.) and N-omega-monomethyl-L-arginine (L-NMMA) (25 mg/kg, i.p.), in reduced levels of NO in the aided stomach in the production of gastric acid for digestive function.

Dr. Maity S, the lead author said, "restoration of intestinal nitric oxide synthase (NOS) activity was found to be associated with BTE treatment" and "These results provide evidence that nitric oxide may play a role in BTE-mediated movement of intestinal motility changes and gastric emptying induced by DEM, IDA, and NEM".

Taken together, black tea with plenty phytochemicals may be considered as functional food in reducing risk and treatment of dyspepsia.

However, intake of tea supplement should be taken with exceptional care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

Beetroot and Its Bioactive Chemical Ingredient Which Kill Cancer Cells Compared to Chemo Drug Doxorubicin (Adriamycin) with No Side Effects, Scientists Reveal

Scientists may have found a vegetable which processes a potency in killing cancer cells before spreading, some studies suggested.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable way in our body.

At the advanced stage, the invasive cancer cell can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissues and organs via lymph or/and blood.

According to the statistic provided by the UK Cancers research, in 2012, an estimated 14.1 million new cases of cancer occurred worldwide.

Sadly, more than 4 in ten cancers occurring worldwide are in countries at a low or medium level of Human Development Index (HDI).

The Human Development Index (HDI) is a statistic composite index of life expectancy, education, and per capita income indicators, according to the definition.

In 2018, over 1,7 millions of new cases of cancer are diagnosed in the US, and approximately over 600,000 patients will die from the diseases.

The four most common types of cancer, occurring worldwide are lung, female breast, bowel and prostate cancer.

Early diagnosis as always is the best way to improve survival rate. Depending on types of cancer, most cancers have a 100% 5 years survival rate, if they are diagnosed at the stage of 0 and 1.

Beet is best known as the beetroot or garden beet and belong to the amaranth family. It is a perennial plant with leafy stems growing to 1–2 m tall.

24. Betaine
25. Etc.

Besides the major chemical constituents betalains and phenolics, beetroot also contains the lesser amount of isobetanin, probetanin, neobetanin, indicaxanthin, vulgaxanthins, etc.

In the study to reaffirm the effect of red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B), approved by Food and Drug Administration and European Union as red food color E162, in reducing multi-organ tumor formations in various animal models when administered in drinking water, researchers at the Howard University launched an investigation to examine whether a long-term daily exposure to low doses of B through diet would be safe and sufficient to produce cancer chemopreventive effect in humans.

Compared to the conventional chemo drugs doxorubicin (D) with different concentrations of range from 0.29-290 μg/ml in several human cancer cell lines, researchers found that

* Application of Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B exerts a synergistic antiproliferative activity with against pancreatic (PaCa), breast (MCF-7) and prostate (PC-3) tumor cells of human origin.

* Red beetroot (Beta vulgaris L.) extract (B) is considered safe for human use with no known toxicity.

* Used combined with D demonstrates an overall positive reduction of concentration od D with the same cytotoxicity profile in the three human cancer cells. In other words, the synergistic cytotoxicity was best when the B:D ratio of 1:5 was used in PaCa cells at IC50, IC75, and IC90 dose levels and in MCF-7 cells at an IC90 dose level.

These results suggested that red beetroot extract used combined with doxorubicin may process a potency in treating human cancers.

Additionally, in the further testing of the anti-cancer effect of the red beetroot extract with the anticancer drug, doxorubicin (Adriamycin) in the androgen-independent human prostate cancer cells (PC-3) and in the well-established estrogen receptor-positive human breast cancer cells (MCF-7), researchers showed that
* Both doxorubicin and the beetroot extract exhibit a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect in the two tested cancer cell lines.

* The cytotoxicity of the beetroot extract is significantly lower, compared to doxorubicin. Application of beetroot continues to decrease the growth rate of the PC-3 cells (3.7% in 3 days vs. 12.5% in 7 days) when tested at the concentration of 29 µg/ml in compared to doxorubicin completely inhibited the growth of the PC-3 cells in three days at the same concentration.

These results indicated lesser effects of the beetroot extract in inducing cytotoxicity, compared to doxorubicin (8.6% vs. 100%, respectively, at 29 µg/ml concentration of each, three-day test period).

Further analysis of the results, researchers found that the anticancer activity may be attributed to its bioactive compound betanin, the major betacyanin constituent.

The findings suggested that beetroot and its extract with abundant phytochemicals may be considered a functional food used alone or combined with chemo drugs for the treatment of cancers without inducing any side effects.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the beer root extract during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of its anti-cancer possibilities.

Fennel, The Reliable and Less Expensive Functional Food For Treatment of Hirsutism

Fennel may have a therapeutic effect in reducing the risk of unwanted hair growth in women, some scientists suggested.

Hirsutism is an unwanted hair growth pattern in women.

The exact causes of Hirsutism are unknown. However, researchers do know certain risk factors are associated to the early onset of the disease, including women who have a persistent hormone imbalance, are obese.

Certain medical conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, long-term, irregular period, abnormal menstrual conditions and cysts presented in the ovaries, and Cushing's syndrome are also considered the prevalent risk factors of Hirsutism.

Some women with the syndrome may experience symptoms of deepening voice, persistent acne on the facial skin, decreased breast size, increased muscle mass, particularly, unwanted hair growth.

If you have some of the above symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

In most cases, Hirsutism is treated by androgen inhibitor such as spironolactone(Aldactone). Topical cream. Eflornithine (Vaniqa), a prescription cream is a primary treatment for women with excessive hair growth.

If you use the above medication, please make sure that know all the side effects.

Some researchers suggested due to the complex nature of the syndrome, management is usually a long and troublesome process.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belonging to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.

The herb or food has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

The double-blind study, using an ethanolic extract of Fennel, obtained by a Soxhlet apparatus to test the efficacy against the expression of idiopathic hirsutism of a total of 38 patients, includes women with idiopathic hirsutism, a normal ovulatory menstrual cycle and normal levels of serum androgens but exhibited male growth pattern were selected to participate.

All patients were assigned randomly to receive either topical cream containing 1%, 2% of Fennel extract or placebo.

At the end of the experiment, researchers found that application of fennel cream exerts a significant effect in reducing hair growth diameter compared to placebo.

Fennel cream with 2% concentration displayed a strongly inhibited activity compared to cream with 1%.
Specifically, the mean values of hair diameter reduction were 7.8%, 18.3% and -0.5% for patients receiving the creams containing 1%, 2% and 0% (placebo) respectively, without inducing any untolerated adverse effects.

These results suggested that fennel ethanolic extract in reducing male hair growth pattern may be attributed to estrogenic property in the activation of the molecular pathways involved in the estrogen-mediated induction of hair growth.

Dr. Ozra Akh, the lead author said, "Estrogens harness the making of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the papilla cells of the skin by controlling 5-alfa reductase enzyme or increasing the conversion of testosterone to weaker androgens and decreasing the testosterone available for conversion to DHT".

Truly, in the review of literature of randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial carried out from 2009 to 2011, in Sari, Iran with a total of 44 women with mild to moderate idiopathic hirsutism, researchers assigned participants either to the group of 22 treated with fennel gel 3% or the control group received placebo.

The mean age of both groups are not much difference at 26.9±6.7 and 25.6±4.3 years in case and control group, respectively, the researchers after taking into account co and confounders indicated that application of fennel gel 3% demonstrates a significant effect in the reduction of thickness of facial hair in micrometer by microscope compared to placebo, after 24 weeks of treatment.

The results of the score of both groups were compared to the baseline taken before the experiment

Although no severity of side effects was found during the period, 4 patients complained of itching (3 in the case group) and 4 patients complained of irritation and itching (3 in the case group).

In compared to the results of 2 experiments used in the article, both 2% gel and 3% gel exerted a similar efficacy in treating idiopathic hirsutism in patients with mild, moderated and excessive hair growth.

Truly, the property in reduced unwanted hair growth in the study, probably due to the presence of major bioactive phytochemical trans-anethole and di-anethole anti-androgenic effect.

Based on the evidence found, fennel may be considered a reliable and less expensive functional food for treatment of idiopathic hirsutism.

However, due to the limited information provided by the small sample size, short period time of follow-up and the case severity does not include in both studies, Additional studies are necessary to reconfirm fennel anti Hirsutism viability.

Green Tea, The Potent Functional Beverage Inhibits the Pathogens That Cause Pneumonia, Scientists Say

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reducing the risk and progression and treatment of pneumonia, some scientists suggested.

Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Bacterial pneumonia is the most common type in adults.

Researchers do not know why people with the same health condition, some are susceptible to the onset of the disease while others do not.

However, according to the studies, certain groups of people are at a higher prevalent risk, including babies and toddlers, who have an immature immune system, people who have had a recent viral infection and people with chronic lung conditions such as asthma, bronchitis or bronchiectasis.

Additionally, people with suppressed immune systems, excessive alcohol drinking and smoking habit and the elderly are also associated with an increased risk of lung infection.

Most common symptoms of include fever and chill caused overexpression of inflammatory cytokines, shortness of breath and increased breathing rate, caused by reduced lung function.

Some patients with pneumonia also have serious symptoms of persistent coughing with phlegm, that does not disappear itself and chest pain.

If you experience some of the above symptoms, you may have pneumonia. Please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit and known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In a population-based cohort study, with the follow-up from 1995 to 2006 conducted by Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine using data of participants in National Health Insurance beneficiaries in Japan (19,079 men and 21,493 women aged 40-79 y), researchers wrote at the end of the experiment,

* Over 12 y of follow-up, 406 deaths from pneumonia, according to the reported documents.

* According to the hazard ratios (HRs), injection of green tea demonstrated a significant reduction of death from pneumonia, (<1 cup/d, HRs

Injection of green tea <1 cup/d, with HRs of 1, 1-2 cups/d with HRs of 0.59, 3-4 cups/d, HRs of 0.55 and > or =5 cups/d with Hrs of .53, respectively in women.

Interestingly, in men, green tea injection regardless of volumes displays no significant association in the risk of death from pneumonia.

These results suggested that green tea intake daily and regularly may have a strong effect in reducing risk, progression, treatment of lung infection, particularly, in the reduced rate of motility in women.

Furthermore, in the evaluate epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) effect in influenza A virus in the induction of pneumonia in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells of BALB/c mice treated with EGCG (10, 20 or 40 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1), po) for 5 days. and on the 3rd day of the treatment, the mice were infected with influenza A virus., researcher indicated that
* EGCG treatment group exerts a significant inhibition of the expression of influenza A virus in elevating production of reactive oxygen species.

* EGCG also inhibits the influenza A replication at a concentration-dependent manner (the ED(50) value of 8.71±1.11 nmol/L).

* Importantly, oral administration of green tea EGCG dramatically improves the survival rate, decreases the mean virus yields and mitigates viral pneumonia in the lungs, compared to conventional medicine at oseltamivir (40 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1)).

These results were supported by the investigation to examine, whether green tea by-products could function as an alternative to common antivirals in animals, conducted by the Konkuk University.

According to the experiment, both applications demonstrated a significantly inhibited influenza activity with green tea by-products (EC₅₀ = 6.36 µg/mL) to be equivalent to that of original green tea (EC₅₀= 6.72 µg/mL)

In against the H1N1 virus A/NWS/33, anti-influenza activity of green tea by-products (EC₅₀ = 6.36 µg/mL) is equivalent to that of original green tea (EC₅₀= 6.72 µg/mL).

However, in tested mice, oral administration of green tea by-products reduced viral titers in the lungs in the early phase of infection, but they could not protect these animals from disease and death compared to therapeutic administration of green tea by-products via feed or water supplement on a dose-dependent manner and the rate of motility at dose of 10 g/kg of feed.

These result unsurprisingly suggested that green tea bioactive compound as a single ingredient consist of a strong effect in reducing the death of pneumonia pathogens compared to the intake of green tea whole foods.

After taking into account other co and confounders, Dr. Lee HJ said, "Unidentified hexane-soluble fractions of green tea by-products possessed strong anti-influenza activity, in addition to ethyl acetate-soluble fractions, including catechins".

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols catechin may be considered as functional foods in reducing risk, progression and treatment of pneumonia, particularly in the decrease of death ratio.

However, intake of green tea supplement should be taken with exceptional care as acute liver toxicity has been reported in numbers of the case.

Caffeinated Coffee, The Beverage Which Protects Skin Against Aging by Increasing Micro-Vascular Function in Skin, Scientists Reveal

Moderate intake of caffeinated coffee regularly may have a particular effect in protecting the skin against aging, a joint institutes study suggested.

Skin aging is a natural process that cannot be reversed. However, by looking after our skin through a change of diet and lifestyle and reduced skin exposure to substances which have a potential to cause skin damage, skin aging process can be delayed.

Dr. Silke K. Schagen, the lead author in the study of Discovering the link between nutrition and skin aging wrote, "Vitamins, carotenoids, tocopherols, flavonoids and a variety of plant extracts have been reported to possess potent antioxidant properties and have been widely used in the skin care industry either as topically applied agents or oral supplements in an attempt to prolong youthful skin appearance"

These results suggested that regular intake of fruits and vegetable with abundant nutrients and antioxidants may have a strong effect in delaying skin aging process.

Additionally, in the study of lifestyle and risk of skin aging in Japanese, Dr. Keiko Asakura, the lead scientists suggested, "Smoking status and topical sun protection were significantly associated with signs of visible skin aging in this study population" and " (There are) significant differences between sexes in the severity of hyperpigmentation, texture, and pores, but not wrinkling".

More precisely, skin aging can be caused by a number of factors, including
* The intrinsic aging of skin are factors that cannot be controlled, such as gene inherited from the parents, hormone change and cellular recession due to aging.

* The extrinsic aging of skin are factors that can or cannot be prevented, such as sun exposure, smoking, air pollution, bad eating habits, and physical inactivity.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In the review of coffee caffeine effect in skin blood flow, researchers at the study lead by the Linköping University showed that intake of caffeinated coffee exhibits a stronger expression in increased skin microvascular response to transdermal iontophoresis of acetylcholine (ACh)( non‐invasively introduce vasoactive drugs in regulating the neurotransmitter at neuromuscular junctions), in compared to decaffeinated coffee intake group.

The study also found that coffee caffeine intake displayed a significant effect in microvascular responses in increasing blood flow to the skin but decreasing blood flow in the fingertips, during the first hour after of drinking;

These result suggested that caffeine in coffee showed an enormous activity in increasing blood flow to the body's skin.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover study performed in 27 healthy volunteers with oral intake of a cup either caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee and reactive hyperemia of finger blood flow assessed by laser Doppler flowmetry, within an interval of more than 2 days, the same experimental protocol was repeated with another coffee in a crossover manner, researchers showed that caffeinated coffee intake group demonstrated a slightly decreased finger blood flow in compared to decaffeinated coffee intake group.

According to the index of post-occlusive reactive hyperemia, microvascular endothelial function, in compared with decaffeinated coffee intake, caffeine contained showed an important effect in enhanced microvascular function in healthy individuals.

Taking together, the findings suggested that intake of coffee caffeine exerted a significant effect in promoted skin blood flow through a microvascular function which may have a strong impact in reducing the risk of skin aging.
