Green tea, The Beverage Which Ameliorates Symptoms and Treats Depression and Anxiety Disorders

Green tea may have a potential and positive effect in reducing symptoms of depression and anxiety stress, some scientists suggested.

Depression and anxiety disorders are a psychological illness. Depression disorder is not the same as anxiety disorder however they often share symptoms similar to those of anxiety.

The causes of depression may be attributed to the numbers of factors such as genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief or difficult life circumstances.

In anxiety, risk factors that associated to the early onset of the disease are family history, long-term under stressful situations and excessive alcohol drinking and use of tobacco, particularly in people who had a childhood history of being abused.

The Mayo Clinic in the classification of anxiety suggested that women are twice as likely as men to experience a generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

In the comparison of the symptoms of depression and anxiety, one may find several overlaps, including symptoms of sleep problems, trouble concentrating, and fatigue.

Dr. Kathleen Smith, Ph.D. in the classification of the different depression and anxiety wrote, "There are, however, some distinguishing features. People with depression move slowly, and their reactions can seem flattened or dulled. People with anxiety tend to be more keyed up, as they struggle to manage their racing thoughts. Another distinguishing feature is the presence of fear about the future in people with anxiety. Depressed people who do not have anxiety are less likely to be fraught with worry about future events, as they are often resigned to believing that things will continue to be bad. In other words, they may predict the future based on how they feel in the moment".

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.
The National University Health System, Singapore which launched the study to examine the association between long-term tea consumption and depressive and anxiety symptoms in community-living elderly including 614 elderly aged 60 years and above, who were free of dementia and cognitive impairment suggested base on the Information on tea consumption,
* 59% of the subjects participated in the study had consumed tea for over 15 years.

* Long-term tea consumption was significantly associated with a reduced odds of having depressive and anxiety symptoms, after adjusting for demographics (i.e., age, gender, education, and ethnicity), comorbid conditions (i.e., heart disease, diabetes, stroke, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia) and long-term coffee consumption.

The findings suggested that long-term tea consumption was associated with reduced depressive and anxiety symptoms among community-living elderly. and that may be the reason that tea's bioactive compounds are used in promoting mental health in aging.

Furthermore, in the evaluate the anti-stress effect of green tea with lowered caffeine, low-caffeine green tea, on humans in a single-blind group comparison and participants (n=20) randomly assigned to low-caffeine or placebo tea groups, researchers showed that according to the state-trait anxiety inventory test.
* The subjective stress in participants was significantly lower in the low-caffeine-group than in the placebo-group during pharmacy practice.

* The level of salivary α-amylase activity, a stress marker, increased significantly after daily pharmacy practice in the placebo group but not in the low-caffeine-group.

These results suggested that the ingestion of low-caffeine green tea suppressed the excessive stress response of students.

Moreover, in the review of a systematically searched on PubMed database and selected studies by predefined eligibility criteria, researcher indicated that in out of 21 studies selected, 4 of which were randomized controlled trials, 12 cross-over studies (both assessed with an adapted version of the DELPHI-list), 4 were cross-sectional studies and one was a cohort study
* Green tea intake exerts a significant influence on the psychopathological symptoms (e.g. reduction of anxiety), cognition (e.g. benefits in memory and attention) and brain function (e.g. activation of working memory seen in functional MRI).

* The effects of green tea is not attributed to a single constituent of the beverage, but the combined influence of both caffeine and l-theanine, whereas separate administration of either substance was found to have a lesser impact.

Taken all together, there is no doubt, standard green tea may be considered a functional food in ameliorating the symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders.

Maternal Coffee > 4 Cups/day or Coffee Caffeine > 2 Cups/day Intake in the Increased Risk of Spontaneous Abortion (SAB)

Risk of spontaneous abortion (SAB) is increased substantially in the excessive coffee women during pregnancy, some studies suggested.

Spontaneous abortion is a clinically recognized pregnancy loss within the 20 weeks of gestation.

According to the World Organization of Health, fetus expulsion or extraction, weighing 500 g or less. are considered spontaneous abortion.

Believe or not, spontaneous abortion happens quite common in the early stage of pregnancy and the risk is decreased substantially with increasing gestational age.

Genetically, the causes of spontaneous abortion (SAB) are associated with mutation of genes inherited from the parents. researchers found that genes that cause the alternation of intrauterine fetal demise, blighted ovum, partial and molar pregnancy are the most common forms of spontaneous abortion.

Externally, maternal age, poor diet, excessive use of alcohol, smoking, untreated thyroid disease uncontrolled diabetes, use of certain medication and the physical problem with reproductive organs are associated with a significant risk of the incidence.

Furthermore, women who have a family history and previous miscarriage are also at the higher risk of the onset of spontaneous abortion (SAB).

Coffee, one of the most popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a case-controlled study conducted in Milan of 561 (72%) cases of spontaneous abortion and 877 (57%) controls, coffee drinking during the first trimester of the index pregnancy with healthy women who gave birth at term (> 37 weeks gestation) to healthy infants as control, researchers found that
* Coffee intake of 1, 2 or 3, and 4 or more cups of coffee per day, are associated to increase the risk of 1.2, 1.8 and 4.0, respectively in compared to nondrinkers.

* The risk of pregnancy loss also is associated to the duration in years of coffee drinking. The estimated multivariate odds ratios of spontaneous abortion were 1.1 compared to non-coffee intake group.

Furthermore, in the evaluated effect of caffeine in influence of miscarriage researchers at the Boston University School of Public Health, conducted a prospective cohort study included 5132 Danish women planning pregnancy, enrolled from 2007 to 2010, after carefully assessing the returned beverage consumption on questionnaires, researcher found that spontaneous abortion (SAB) is 1.62 higher in women consumed more than 300 mg/day of caffeine per day, in compared to 1.09 in women who consume <100 mg/day.

Specifically, women with daily intake of caffeine of
* <100 mg/day showed a materially associated with SAB risk of 1.09.

* 100-199mg/day showed a materially associated with SAB risk of 0,89.

* 200-299mg/day showed a materially associated with SAB risk of 1.33.

Interestingly, in prospective cohort study included 15,590 pregnancies from 11,072 women with no history of SAB in the Nurses' Health Study II (1991-2009) with beverage intake assessed every 4 years using a validated questionnaire in case pregnancies lost spontaneously at <20 weeks gestation, total coffee intake had a positive, linear association with SAB.

Compared to non-pre-pregnancy coffee intake, the risk of SAB increased by 20% for women consuming ≥4 servings/day.

More importantly, Dr. Gaskins AJ, the lead author said, "Pre-pregnancy coffee consumption at levels ≥4 servings/day is associated with increased risk of SAB, particularly at weeks 8-19".

Taking together, there is no doubt that caffeinated coffee may contribute to a relative risk of spontaneous abortion (SAB) for women consuming more than 4 cups per day.

Women who are pregnant between 12 to 20 weeks of gestation with excessive coffee intake habit are recommended to consult with their doctors.

Strawberries, the Fruits That Kill 100% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vivo and Vitro, Scientists Say

Breast cancer (malignant breast neoplasm) is a type of irregular cell growth that starts either from the inner lining of milk ducts (Ductal carcinoma) or the lobules (Lobular carcinoma) that supply the ducts with milk in the breast.

There are also rare cases, that breast cancer starts in other areas of the breast.

In 2010, over 250,000 new cases of breast cancer were diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone. The risk of getting invasive breast cancer during the lifetime of a woman is 1/8.

The causes of breast cancer are unknown. Researchers do not know, people with the same health conditions and similar family history, some are more susceptible to the onset of the disease, while others do not.

However, an increase of aging, history with breast conditions, such as previous breast cancer, breast density, use of hormone estrogen therapy, overweight and obese and excessive alcohol consumption are some major risk factors which can elevate the development of breast cancer.

Furthermore, genetic mutation of certain inherited from the parent such as gene BRCA1 and BRCA2 are also the prevalent risk factors of breast cancer. There is an estimation that 33% of women who carry a harmful mutation in PALB2 will develop breast cancer by age 70 years.

According to the article posted by the National Institute of Health, " Several different tests are available. Some tests look for a specific harmful BRCA1 orBRCA2 gene mutation that has already been identified in another family member. Other tests check for all of the known harmful mutations in both genes. Multigene (panel) testing uses next-generation sequencing to look for harmful mutations in many genes that are associated with an increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer, including BRCA1 and BRCA2, at the same time".

If you have a family history of genetic mutation involved breast cancer, please make sure that you have them checked to rule out the possibility.

Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongs to the family Roseaceae.

The fruit has been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits and for health benefits.

The major chemical compounds include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.

Epidemiological studies strong agree that consumption of berry fruits, including strawberries have beneficial effects on human health and reduce the risk of chronic diseases, including breast cancer.

According to the Indian Institute of Science which conducted the experiment to examine whether a methanolic extract of strawberry (MESB) fruits processes anticancer activity in leukemia (CEM) and breast cancer (T47D) cell lines ex vivo, and its cancer therapeutic and chemopreventive potential in mice models,
* Mice bearing breast adenocarcinoma with MESB treated by the extract blocked the proliferation of tumor cells in a time-dependent manner.

* Application of the extract also increases lifespan in the cancer-bearing animal model.

* MESB treatment affected tumor cell proliferation by activating apoptosis and did not result in any side effects

* Finally, MESB treatment also induce intrinsic pathway of apoptosis by activating p73 in breast cancer cells, caused by the mutation of tumor suppressor gene p53.

These results revealed that strawberry fruits possess both cancer preventive and therapeutic values.

Additionally, in the study to test for anti-breast cancer activity in extracts of six popularly consumed berries--blackberry, black raspberry, blueberry, cranberry, red raspberry and strawberry conducted by the University of California, researchers found that strawberry and other berry extracts exert their ability to inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cell line MCF-7 at concentrations ranging from 25 to 200 micro g/mL.

Moreover, researchers also discovered the apoptosis rate of breast cancer cells killing are increased with increasing concentration of the extract. These findings suggested that strawberry extract may have a potential to kill 100% of the breast cancer cells in a dose-dependent manner.

In compared to other extracts, black raspberry and strawberry extracts showed the most significant pro-apoptotic effects against breast cell line.

However, due to the limitation of the above studies, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of strawberry anti-breast cancer possibilities.

Caffeinated Coffee, the Beverage Which Processes anti Hepatic Fibrosis Potency

Intake of coffee daily and regularly may be considered a functional beverage in blocking the onset and treating liver fibrosis, some scientist suggested.

Hepatic fibrosis is a condition characterized by overly exuberant wound healing causing excessive connective tissue builds up in the liver. In other words, hepatic fibrosis is a portion of the liver which was affected by scars formation.

The exact causes of liver fibrosis are unknown. However, certain risk factor such as repeated liver injury caused by virus infection, and a blockage in the bile ducts are found to elaborate the onset of liver fibrosis.

Long-term untreated liver fibrosis can lead to cirrhosis, a condition of the severe scarring of the liver and life-threatening liver disease.

The most common scale to grade the stage of liver fibrosis is the METAVIR scoring system. By examing the grade and stage of liver fibrosis of patients, their doctors can now determine the degree of severity to which patients liver is affected.

The severity of the grades range from A0 to A3:
A0: no activity
A1: mild activity
A2: moderate activity
A3: severe activity

and

The severity of fibrosis stages range from F0 to F4:
F0: no fibrosis
F1: portal fibrosis without septa
F2: portal fibrosis with few septa
F3: numerous septa without cirrhosis
F4: cirrhosis, the most severe stage of fibrosis

Coffee, the best popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In the examine 910 patients with chronic HCV infection, 98% male and 38% with advanced hepatic fibrosis, researchers filed the following results
* Intake of coffee is lower in the control group, compared to the advanced fibrosis.

* But caffeine intake of higher than 100 mg or more, daily from all sources was found in controls (66.0%) than patients with advanced fibrosis (57.9%).

* Caffeine intake of controls mostly come from the coffee intake.

* Intake of average daily of 100 mg or more of caffeine (adjusted odds ratio, 0.71; 95% confidence interval, 0.53-0.95; P = .020) was associated with the increased liver protective effect.

The result demonstrated that moderately coffee and coffee caffeine intake of 100 mg may have a protective benefit against the risk of advanced hepatic fibrosis.

Additionally, in the study, using food-frequency instrument for dietary caffeine consumption to evaluate the relationship between caffeine intake and liver fibrosis in patients undergoing liver biopsy completed a detailed caffeine questionnaire on three occasions over a 6-month period, researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), reported the results as follow
1. Daily caffeine consumption of 308 mg = approximately 2.25 cups of coffee equivalents was associated with reduced liver fibrosis.

2. The protective association persisted without changing even after taking into account other factors,

3. Compared to coffee caffeine, other sources of caffeine showed an insignificant effect in decreasing the risk of liver fibrosis.

After making the adjustment from all sources, Dr. Modi AA, the lead author said," A reliable tool for measurement of caffeine consumption demonstrated that caffeine consumption, particularly from regular coffee, above a threshold of approximately 2 coffee-cup equivalents per day, was associated with less severe hepatic fibrosis."

Promisingly, in the study of chronic HBV-infected patients underwent transient elastography examination in 2006-2008, questionnaire returned from among 1045 patients, 216 (20.7%) patients with advanced fibrosis., researchers also found the similar results, compared to other studies.

* The percentage of patients who drank ≥ 1 cup of coffee had advanced fibrosis was 95 (19.0%) , compared with 1.21 (22.2%) patients who drank < 1 cup (P = 0.21).

* Caffeine intake does not affect liver stiffness in chronic HBV-infected patients, compared to the coffee intake

Taking together, there is no doubt that coffee intake may have a profound effect in ameliorating the risk of hepatic fibrosis and advanced hepatic fibrosis regardless amount intake daily.

Asparagus, The Veggie Which Causes Cytotoxicity on Cancers

Scientists may have found a whole food with the potential to kill cancer cells before they can cause some serious effect on the human body, some studies suggested.

Cancer is the group of diseases characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in some tissue and organs, due to the alternation of cell DNA.

At the advanced stage, most invasive cancerous cells can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other healthy tissue and organs through the circulation of blood and fluid.

The causes of cancer are unknown, researchers do not why people with the same health conditions and family history, some are susceptible to the onset of the diseases while others do not.

However, they do know that smoking, radiation, viruses, cancer-causing chemicals (carcinogens), obesity, hormones, chronic inflammation and a lack of exercise are most risk factors associated to the early onset of cancers.

Furthermore, genes mutation such as BRCA1 and 2 inherited from the parents are one of the major risk factors that cause cancers.

Long-term excessive alcohol drinking is associated with a higher risk of liver cancer.

According to the World Cancer Research Fund, Eating 'fast foods' (such as chips and fried chicken) or other processed foods that are high in fat and sugar (like chocolate, crisps, and biscuits) can make you gain weight, and there is strong evidence that being overweight or obese is a cause of 12 types of cancer. And diets that are high in plant foods – such as fruit, vegetables, whole grains, and beans – can help you stay a healthy weight, and may also protect against certain cancers.

Moreover, Dr. Weiderpass E, in the study of "Lifestyle and cancer risk" wrote. "The main behavioral and environmental risk factors for cancer mortality in the world are related to diet and physical inactivity, use of addictive substances, sexual, and reproductive health, exposure to air pollution and use of contaminated needles".

Asparagus is a flowering plant belonging to species the genus Asparagus, native to the western coasts of northern Spain, north to Ireland, Great Britain, and northwest Germany, northern Africa, and western Asia.

Asparagus has been used from early times as a vegetable and medicine, because of its delicate flavor and diuretic properties.

Its chemical constituents include essential oils, asparagine, arginine, tyrosine, flavonoids (kaempferol, quercetin, and rutin), resin, and tannin.

In the study of saponins from old stems of asparagus (SSA) potential inhibitory activity on tumor growth and metastasis conducted by the East China Normal University on the breast, colon and pancreatic cancer cell lines, researchers found that
* Injection of saponins displays a significant effect in the inhibition of all tested cancer cell lines in a concentration-dependent manner, with half-maximum inhibitory concentrations ranging from 809.42 to 1829.96 µg mL(-1).

* At the concentration of 400 µg mL(-1), SSA is more functional in blocking cell migration and invasion as compared with its cytotoxic effect.
* Furthermore, SSA markedly increased the activities of Cdc42, a protein with function involved in the regulation of the cell cycle. and Rac1 with function in stimulating the cytotoxicity activity and decreased the activity of RhoA that is associated with cytoskeleton regulation, in cancer cells.

These results suggested that SSA increased the levels and activities of reactive oxygen species in exerting cytotoxicity against the proliferation and migration of cancer cells.

Dr.Wang J, the lead scientist at the final report, said, "SSA inhibits tumor cell motility through modulating the Rho GTPase signaling pathway (in the regulation of diverse cellular functions), suggesting a promising use of SSA as a supplement in healthcare foods and natural drugs for cancer prevention and treatment".

Moreover, in the examine the function of a series of Sarsapogenin and Diosgenin derived steroidal constituents (1-12), isolated from Solanum xanthocarpum and Asparagus racemosus against cancers, researchers showed that the isolated compounds exert their ability to induce cell death and apoptosis of colon carcinoma cells.

The carbohydrate moieties linked to the steroid backbones process the strong influence in the induction of cytotoxic activity and cell death mode (apoptosis or necrosis).

Taken all together, asparagus containing high amounts of saponins and newly Sarsapogenin and Diosgenin derived steroidal constituents may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of cancers.

White Button Mushroom inhibits the Onset of Prostate cancer

White button mushroom may be considered a functional food in inhibiting the early onset of prostate cancer, some scientist found.

Prostate cancer is cancer originated from the inner lining of the prostate gland caused by irregular prostate cell growth. Prostate cancer is a slow growing cancer. However, they can be deadly in the advanced stage by traveling a distance away to infect other healthy tissue and organs.

Most prostate cancers are found in the yearly annual physical exam, designed for the male at a higher risk of prostate cancer.

The exact causes of prostate cancer are unknown. However, the most common risk factor associated with the onset of the disease is genetic mutation inherited from the parents. mutation of BRCA1 and BRCA2 reserves the function of tumor suppressor genes which normally repair mistakes in a cell's DNA to allow DNA mutation of the prostate cells.

Other risk factors also include age, family history, ethnicity and longterm exposure to organ agents.

Unhealthy diet and lifestyle are also the most common preventable risk factors for the onset of the disease.

Dr. Sandaly O. S. Pacheco,, the lead author in the study "Food Habits, Lifestyle Factors, and Risk of Prostate Cancer in Central Argentina: A Case-Control Study Involving Self-Motivated Health Behavior Modifications after Diagnosis" wrote, "(Patients diagnosed with prostate cancer have) a greater mean consumption of meats and fats and lower intakes of fruits, green vegetables, cruciferous vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, and whole grains than the controls (all p < 0.001)".

Therefore, reducing the intake of meats and fats, and actively engaging in the dietary modifications with increased consumption of fish, fruits (including red fruits in prostate cancer), cruciferous vegetables, legumes, nuts, and black tea may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

Mushroom is a standard name of white button mushroom, the fleshy, spore-bearing fruiting body of a fungus produced above ground on soil or on its food source.

It is a genus A. Muscaria and belonging to the family Amanitaceae and has been recultivated in many cultures all over the world for foods and health benefits.

Chemical constituents
Astraodorol, Psilocybin, Lectin, adustin, ribonuclease, nicotine, 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy-6-methylbenzoic acid, orsellinic acid, melleolide, ergosterol, genistein, daidzein, daucosterol, genistin, uracil, and D-mannitol.

In the evaluate the effects of white button mushroom extract and its major component, conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on prostate cancer cell lines in vitro and mushroom extract in vivo, researchers found that* Injection of mushroom effectively inhibits cell proliferation in a dose-dependent manner and induces apoptosis of the tested cell lines within 72 h of treatment.

* Application of CLA inhibits proliferation in the prostate cancer cell lines in vitro.

* DU145 and PC3 prostate tumor size and tumor cell proliferation are decreased in nude mice treated with mushroom extract, whereas tumor cell apoptosis was increased compared to pair-fed controls.* Application of mushroom in tested mice demonstrated the significant changes in the tumor gene expression compared to controls, according to microarray analysis.

Dr. Adams LS the lead author said, "..., the anticancer potential of phytochemicals in mushroom extract both in vitro and in vivo and supports the recommendation of white button mushroom as a dietary component that may aid in the prevention of prostate cancer in men".

Furthermore, in the study to examine whether Mushrooms, an excellent source of dietary vitamin D2 in the risk of prostate cancer, researchers launched a nested case-control study based on a 13-year follow-up of about 19,000 middle-aged men who attended the first screening visit within the Helsinki Heart Study and free of clinically verified prostate cancer at baseline.

According to record linkage with the files of the Finnish Cancer Registry, 149 prostate cancer cases were identified in the cohort.

After the assessment, researchers found that
* Prostate cancer risk, analyzed by quartiles of the 25-VD levels, was inversely related to 25-VD. In other words, men with a 25-VD concentration below the median are associated with the risk of prostate cancer compared to men with the 25-VD level above the median.

* The prostate cancer risk was highest among younger men (<52 years) at entry and low serum 25-VD (OR 3.1 nonadjusted and 3.5 adjusted).

* The mean age at diagnosis of the patients with a 25-VD concentration above the median was 1.8 years higher than that of patients with vitamin D below the median (63.1 vs 61.3 years).

These results strongly suggested that low levels of plasma 25-VD concentration are a prevalent risk factor of the onset of prostate cancer. In other words, increased consumption of mushroom can increase and maintain blood levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D in a healthy range, thus reducing the risk of prostate cancer, regardless of age group.

Garlic, The Kitchen Spice in the Prevention and Treatment of Hypertension, Scientists Recommend

Scientists may have found a common kitchen spice with potential in reducing high blood pressure quickly without including any side effects, some studies endorsed.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

High blood pressure means raising the pressure in your heart. If it stays high over time it can damage the body in many ways.

The causes of hypertension are unknown. However, researchers do know that acute hypertension is induced by daily stress.

Certain risk factors such as unhealthy lifestyle choices, physical inactivity unhealthy diet with high in saturated and trans fat, refined products, processed food, high sugar, and salt intake,...... over time cause your blood pressure to spice-up chronically.

Lifestyle choices can also lead to overweight or obese, the risk factors for the early onset of hypertension.

According to the statistic, in the US, over 75 million adults or 32% have high blood pressure.

In other words, 1 in every 3 American adults has the syndrome. Sadly 44% of the mentioned adults with high blood pressure are not under control.

Uncontrol high blood pressure has long been known as a major risk factor for the development of heart disease and stroke, the leading causes of death in the United States.

Blood pressure medications have undoubtedly prevented many deaths from heart disease in the past 30 years, but they have many side effects such as gastrointestinal discomforts, tiredness, weakness, headache.

Some patients who are taking the hypertensive medicine over the prolonged periods of time may experience symptoms of erectile dysfunction.

In severe cases, intake of antihypertensive drugs for a long term can cause dermatitis, arthritis and anemia and lupus erythematosus-like syndrome, according to the article "Adverse Effects of Antihypertensive Drugs" written by Dr. DWARD D. FREIS, M.D.

If you are currently taking any anti-high blood pressure medications, please make you that you know all the side effects.

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia.

The kitchen spice has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc.

In adult men and women, participated in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study (2006-2008 to 2012-2014), intake of garlic is associated to reduce the risk of hypertension by up 26%.

In hypertension of 80-90% patients with excess glucocorticoid level, allicin found in garlic attenuated dexamethasone-induced anorexia and loss of total body weight.

A randomized, placebo-controlled, clinical trial conducted on 56 CVD patients, aged 25 - 75 years old also suggested treatment with garlic-based drugs can be effective for controlling BP in CVD patients and has no interaction with other drugs that CAD patients take, after 3 months of the administration.

Dr. Takashima M the lead author at the Wakunaga Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd said, " aged garlic extract (AGE) is effective in reducing the blood pressure of hypertensive patients,......AGE-induced the concentration-dependent vasorelaxation of isolated rat aortic rings that had been precontracted with norepinephrine"

In fact, The traditional Chinese medicine, food therapy, and hypertension control, all recommended that garlic is of the food to be used for hypertension control, according to a statistical analysis of antihypertensive foods recommended in 20 books on the application of food therapy for hypertension control.

If you can control your diet, make changes to lifestyle, maintaining an ideal weight, you could do just fine without the drugs,

Taking all together, garlic may be used as preventive and controlling effects for patients with or without high blood pressure. Some researchers insisted that garlic anti hypertension effect may result from its anticoagulant property.
