Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative condition of loss or decrease of cognitive and memory functions due to aging.
According to the Maternal and Infant Health, ASL NA 3 SUD, epigallocatechin, and gallic acid, (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG), found in green tea exerted a strong anti-inflammatory and anti oxidative properties in protection against neuronal damage and brain edema.
The study also stated that green tea may also contribute to reduced risk and treatment of AD by ameliorated chronic viral infection, one of the cause in responsible for AD's neuropathology.
Dr. Mandel SA. the lead author and expert in green tea study said, "tea drinking may decrease the incidence of dementia, AD, and PD. In particular, its main catechin polyphenol constituent (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) has been shown to exert neuroprotective/neurorescue activities in a wide array of cellular and animal models of neurological disorders".
Other researchers suggested that the efficacy of epigallocatechin and gallic acid, (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG) in reduced risk of AD may be attributed to
1. The antioxidant activity in ameliorating production of ROS in the induced risk of oxidative stress which has been found to associate to the production of lipid peroxidation, leading to abnormal deposition of amyloid β (Aβ) peptide
2. Free radical overexpression in aging people also vulnerable to an imbalance of antioxidant and ROS
may have negatively direct interaction with proteins, nucleic acids, and other molecules and may also alter their structures and functions in inducing risk AD.
Indeed, as a single ingredient isolated from green tea, epigallocatechin and gallic acid, (-)-Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate (EGCG) have been found to cause toxicity in some cases in the medical literature. Therefore taking the ingredient in long term and overdoses may have an implication of liver damage.
In an animal study to evaluate the efficacy of Caffeic acid in AD, mice rats randomly divided into three groups: i) control group, ii) AD model group and iii) caffeic acid group, mice fed with the phytochemical expressed a significant in increased learning deficit and cognitive function demonstrated by the Morris water maze task in compared control.
Additionally, fed mice also displayed attenuated oxidative stress, inflammation, nuclear factor‑κB‑p65 protein expression involved inflammatory cytokines production and suppressed caspase‑3 activity-induced cell death and other mechanisms in the rats with AD.
Interestingly, the inflammatory process has shown to have a negative role in an increased risk of AD, by causing neuroinflammation, including brain cells such as microglia and astrocytes and subsequently in promoted dysfunction and neuronal death. Therefore by suppressing the production of inflammatory cytokines, caffeic acid expressed a significant reduction of AD risk.
The efficacy in the contribution of cognitive improvement following caffeic acid application may be due to its antioxidant activity and restoration of cholinergic functions, as deficiency of cholinergic function has shown to affect cognition, behavior, and activities of daily living
Taking all together, there is no doubt that green process a neuroprotective against the risk and progression of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) attributed to some of the major chemical constituents. But the intake of a single ingredient isolated from green tea should be taken with care.

Phytochemical Lycopene Inhibits Hyperproliferation In Gastric Epithelial Cells
Hyperproliferation is a progression of highly invasive tumor associated with an abnormally high rate of cancer cells division, leading to rapid overgrowth of the tumor.
Gastric cancer or stomach cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth of the inner lining tissues of the stomach.
Most cancer of gastric start in the cells on the inner lining of the stomach before penetrating into deeper layers.
At the advanced stage, cancerous gastric cells can also travel a distance away to an alternate DNA of healthy cells, leading a secondary metastasis.
According to the statistics provided by the Canadian Cancer Society, In 2017, approximately 3,500 Canadians were diagnosed with stomach cancer, and gastric cancer also caused the death of 2,100 including 1,300 women and 790 men.
There are major types of gastric cancer
*Adenocarcinoma, accounting to over 90% of gastric cancer diagnosed each year is a type of cancer developed in the innermost lining of the stomach (the mucosa).
* Lymphoma is a type of cancer associated with the immune system found in the wall of the stomach.
Most common symptoms of gastric cancer are heartburn or indigestion, abdominal pain or vague discomfort in the abdomen, usually above the navel and a sense of fullness in the upper abdomen after eating a small meal accompanied by the general symptoms shared by other types of cancer.
In severe cases, if the oversize tumor has pressed on the nearby blood vessel, patients may experience the symptom of vomiting blood.
Out of many prevalent factors involved in the cancer onset, some researchers suggested the promotion of the Western diet may have a strong and negative implication on the cancer occurrence in North America.
Dr. Bertuccio P, the lead scientist wrote, "An unfavorable role on GC emerged for the 'Western/unhealthy' dietary pattern, with an OR of 1.51 (95% CI: 1.21-1.89). This association was weaker for the distal/NOS (not otherwise specified) category (OR = 1.36) compared with the cardia GC (OR = 2.05). Among the a priori scores, the ORs ranged from 0.2 to 0.7 for the favorable and from 1.8 to 6.9 for the unfavorable ones".
And, "There is a ~2-fold difference in GC risk between a 'Prudent/healthy' diet-rich in fruits and vegetables, and a 'Western/unhealthy' diet-rich in starchy foods, meat, and fats".
Lycopene is a phytochemical in the class of carotenoid, a natural pigment with no vitamin A activity found abundantly in tomatoes and other red fruits and vegetables, such as red carrots, watermelons, and papayas,
Tomatoes provide about 80% of the lycopene in the world diet. In plants, lycopene protects the host against excessive photodamage and performs various functions in photosynthesis.
With an aim to find a potential compound for the treatment of invasive gastric cancer, researchers examined the lycopene effect on Helicobacter pylori (H pylori) colonized human stomach in the risk of gastric cancer.
According to the tested differentiation, injection lycopene reduced ROS levels by inhibiting Jak1/Stat3 activation associated with increased levels of proinflammatory cytokines, alteration of Wnt/β-catenin multiprotein signal in induced cells proliferation, and differentiation.
Furthermore, the levels of ROS also are decreased observed by the inhibition of c-Myc, a protein which plays a critical role in cellular growth regulation and cellular metabolism and cyclin E in cell duplication and cell proliferation in H pylori-infected AGS cells, derived from an adenocarcinoma of the stomach.
In other words, lycopene protects the gastric cell by constraining the expression of ROS through several aforementioned mechanisms.
Based on the findings, researchers said, " Lycopene might be a potential and promising nutrient for preventing H pylori-associated gastric diseases including gastric cancer".
Furthermore, according to the results of HGC-27 cells which were treated with varying concentration lycopene for 24, 48, 72,
* Lycopene displayed antiproliferative activity in HGC-27 cell lines.
* Lycopene inhibited HGC-27 by enhancing the protein LC3 which is essential for cancer cell autophagy and p-ERK proteins expression that impaired regeneration of intracellular antioxidants.
Furthermore, in gastric cancer nude mice model, lycopene treatment also significantly decreased tumor weight or tumor proliferation.
Taken altogether, lycopene may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of gastric cancer, pending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of lycopene in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea, A Potent Beverage in Reduced Risk and Treatment of Osteosarcoma
Osteosarcoma is a medical condition of bone cancer characterized by producing immature bone and occurred mostly in children and young adults between the ages of 10 and 30.
According to the study in the investigation of the effects of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), in reduced risk of osteosarcoma expression in compared to miR-126 in the proliferation, invasion, migration, and chemotherapeutics resistance in cancer, application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG)
1. Exerted a significant effect in suppresses proliferation of human cell line osteosarcoma MG63 and U2OS cells in a concentration-dependent and time-dependent manner
2. Inhibited cancer cell line at the concentration of 0.05 g/L on U2OS cells were equivalent to 20 μM cisplatin (DDP)
In compared to green tea extract induced cell death by interfering in cell cycle arrest, miR-126, the chemo suppressor drug-induced apoptosis and inhibited proliferation in U2OS cell line but without significant effects on phase 1 of cancerous cell cycle division.
Further analysis, researchers suggested the application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may increase the effect of tumor-suppressing drug miR-126 and for treatment of osteosarcoma.
In fact, the inhibition of miR-126 osteosarcoma cells without inducing apoptosis and cells proliferation in cell cycle division is attributed to the medicine in the target of sequences in reducing the expression of the targeted genes.
In other words, the medicine can bind directly to inhibit DNA transcription and prevented mRNA in transmitting such transcription in initiated cancer development.
Other researchers suggested that the inhibition of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in reduced cancerous cell death does not limit to the function of cell cycle arrest, the phytochemical compound also expressed the apoptotic effect through modulating gene expression of cancer cell line and induced degradation of cancerous cellular structure.
Additional evaluation of the phytochemical Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and the tumor suppressed drug miR-1 effect in osteosarcoma, researchers also found that Epigallocatechin-3-gallate has a profound and positive effect in improved the efficacy of miR-1 in induced cell apoptosis and proliferation observed in cancer cell lines MG-63 and U-2OS.
More importantly, MG-63 and U-2OS treated by miR-1 and Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) decreased c-MET expression, which is an indication of cancers development.
Furthermore, the combined application of Epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and c-MET inhibitor (crizotinib) also displayed significant inhibition of MG-63 and U-2OS cancer cell proliferation.
More interestingly, in the study of the effects of Se-enriched Ziyang green tea, containing chemical compound mannose, rhamnose and fucose in antitumor activity on human osteosarcoma U-2 OS cells in vitro and in vivo, researchers found that Se-ZYTP at concentration of 25, 50, 100 and 200 μg/ml exerted a significant inhibition of proliferation of human osteosarcoma U-2 OS cells in a concentration-dependent fashion.
In cancer cell line In U-2 OS cancer induced in BALB/c athymic mice model, Se-ZYTP oral administration at three doses of 100, 200 and 400mg/kg body weight (B.W.) daily for 28 days resulted in tumor regression as compared to model control without causing any serious side effects.
Once again, we illustrated that other chemical compounds found in green tea may also have the potential in the suppression of proliferation and induced apoptosis of osteosarcoma.
Indeed, the anti osteosarcoma activities of Se-enriched Ziyang green tea may be attributed to the stimulation in increased pro-apoptotic protein Bax expression(upregulated by the tumor suppressor protein p53 in induced apoptosis) and decreased expression levels of anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2(regulator proteins that regulate cell death) and NG2(involved cell survival, migration, and angiogenesis), some researchers suggested.
Taking all together, green tea with plenty of phytochemicals in the suppression of the development and progression of cancer may be considered as an adjunct therapy in reduced risk and combination with chemo drugs for the treatment of osteosarcoma.

Phytochemical Alliin, the Best Anti Metabolic Syndrome Remedy
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions that increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes, including too much fat around the waist, high blood pressure, triglycerides, and blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol.
In other words, if you process 3 of the aforementioned conditions, you are at a higher risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. However, most people with metabolic syndrome have never developed
CVD and diabetes.
Other than high blood glucose, induced thirst and urination, fatigue, and blurred vision, most patients with other metabolic conditions are asymptomatic.
Epidemiologically, aging, ethnicity, obesity, medical condition such as diabetes, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, and polycystic ovary syndrome are most risk factors found in patients with the syndrome.
Some researchers suggested that the promotion of the Western diet in the US over the past few decades may have a strong effect in inducing the widespread metabolic syndrome.
Dr. Drake I, the lead scientist wrote, "The 'Western' dietary pattern was inversely associated with HDL-cholesterol and positively with all other response variables (both at baseline and follow-up), but there was no association with LDL at follow-up".
And, " In conclusion, this study supports current food-based dietary guidelines suggesting that a 'Western' dietary pattern with high intakes of sugar-sweetened beverages and red and processed meats and low intakes of wine, cheese, vegetables, and high-fiber foods is associated with detrimental effects on cardio-metabolic health".
The results clearly suggested that if you are following a traditional diet with high fruits and vegetable and fewer in processed food, saturated and trans fat, and red meat accompanied with moderate exercise daily, you are at substantially decreased risk metabolic syndrome, compared to those who follow the Western diet.
Alliin (S-allyl-L-cysteine-S-oxide) is a phytochemical compound sulfoxide,. a derivative of the amino acid cysteine, belonging to the class of sulfur compounds, found abundantly in fresh garlic and onion.
In the urgency to find a potential compound for the treatment of metabolic syndrome, researchers examined the pure allicin, prepared biosynthetically by reacting synthetic alliin with an immobilized alliinase enzyme in the protection against cardiovascular disease.
S-ally-mercapto captopril (CPSSA), a new stable synthetic compound produced by a chemical reaction between allicin and the angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor captopril was tested in a fructose-induced metabolic syndrome rat model.
Allicin (8 mg/(kg day)) used alone significantly reduced insulin, triglycerides, and homocysteine concentrations, and had a slight effect on SBP associated with the risk of metabolic syndrome.
On the other hand, Captopril (50mg/(kg day)) only improved blood pressure and homocysteine.
Treatment with a low dose of CPSSA (5mg/(kg day)) lowered SBP but did not improve any other measured parameter, while treatment with a higher dose Captopril (50mg/(kg day)) significantly decreased blood pressure, triglycerides, and homocysteine concentrations.
In other words, CPSSA exerted a strong anti-metabolic syndrome better than those of individual compound in a dose-dependent manner.
Based on the findings, researchers wrote, " the combined molecule CPSSA integrates the anti-hypertensive, lipid-lowering, and homocysteine-reducing effects of both allicin and captopril, making it a potential cardiovascular protective agent".
Taken altogether, alliin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, depending on the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of alliin in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) in Decreased Progression and Treatment of Her-2/ Positive Breast Cancer
Breast cancers with HER2 gene amplification or HER2 protein overexpression are called HER2-positive
HER2 is a protein that causes breast cancer cells to grow aggressively.
HER2-positive breast cancers tend to grow faster and are more likely to spread and come back in compared to HER2-negative breast cancers.
Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.
Breast cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cells growth in the breast tissues. At the late stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to infect other organs and tissues from the original site.
The study of bioactive green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) was found to decrease the progression of breast cancer cells with Her-2/neu overexpression, through many mechanisms.
Application of green tea EGCG to Her-2/neu-driven mammary tumor cells showed a significant effect in blocking overexpression of key regulators in the epithelial to mesenchymal transition (EMT) pathway in induced invasive cell proliferation in breast outer layer tissues.
Additionally, the bioactive compound also inhibited Her-2/neu-driven mammary tumor cells by enhanced genes expression in related to tumor suppressor(epithelial genes E-cadherin, gamma-catenin) and promoted tumor cell cycle arrest(MTA3) and involved in the regulation of cellular proliferation and differentiation in target tissues(estrogen receptor alpha (ERalpha)).
Further analysis the study also addressed the important role of green tea EGCG in inhibition of Her-2/neu-driven mammary tumor cells through decreased the function of snail gene in the expression of tumor cells proliferative activity.
In cell migration and invasion assays, green tea EGCG also restrained branching colony growth and invasion of Her-2/neu-driven mammary tumor cells
Interestingly, invasive and metastatic I phenotype in mouse mammary tumor cells driven by overexpression of the protein in the transmuted transcription of DNA, involved cell survival and a messenger-independent in protecting against apoptotic tumor cells also inhibited by administration of green tea EGCG.
Furthermore, green tea EGCG treatment activated FOXO3a in triggered apoptosis of tumor cells and reversed the invasive characteristic of in ERalpha-positive breast cancer cells by blocking expression of the protein of transforming growth factor-beta in induced tumor cell growth, cell proliferation, cell differentiation.
Further differentiation of overexpression of the epidermal growth factor receptor family member Her-2/neu in breast cancer, application of EGCG not only inhibited mouse mammary tumor virus (MMTV)-Her-2/neu NF639 cell growth in culture and soft agar.but also ameliorated the risk of basal Her-2/neu receptor tyrosine phosphorylation in the contribution of exceptional oncogenic potency. via regulation of enzymes involved in cellular growth, proliferation, differentiation (phosphatidylinositol 3- kinase), and proteins in induced oncogenic transformation (Akt kinase to NF-kappaB pathway).
In SMF derived from mammary gland tumors and cultured and also epidermal growth factor receptor 4, green tea EGCG inhibited the expression of a significantly higher phosphorylation state of basal receptor which displays high constitutive Her-2/neu tumor.
Interestingly in the study of epigallocatechin-3 gallate (EGCG) effects in inhibited growth of Trastuzumab-resistant HER2-driven breast cancer cells, researchers found that EGCG treatment in a dose-dependent inhibited trastuzumab-resistant BT474 human breast cancer cells, isolated by chronic trastuzumab exposure and JIMT-1 breast cancer cells, by decreasing tumor growth, tumor cellular ATP production in absorption of chemical energy obtained from the breakdown of food molecules and releases it to fuel other cellular processes, and by inducing tumor cells apoptosis at high concentrations.
Most importantly, EGCG also suppressed multiple cellular processes such as glucose metabolism, apoptosis, cell proliferation, transcription, and cell migration. of Akt activity, improved FOXO3a function in triggered apoptosis of tumor cells and elevated expression of anti-tumor suppressor proteins. p27Kip1
Dr. Eddy SF, the lead author said, "EGCG in combination with trastuzumab may provide a novel strategy for the treatment of HER2-over expressing breast cancers, given that EGCG can cross the blood-brain barrier".
Taking all together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may have therapeutic potential in reduced risk and progression of HER2 positive breast cancer, particularly when combined with other chemo-medicine.

Cucumber Protects the Blood Vessels Against the Risk and Onset of Vascular Disease
Vascular disease is a disease associated with an abnormal condition of the blood vessels, affecting the blood flow to the body.
There are many types of vascular disease, including
* Stroke caused by the blockage of blood flow to the brain, leading to the death of the neurons.
* Peripheral artery disease (PAD), a disease is caused by reduced blood flow to the limbs
* Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), is a condition of a localized enlargement of the abdominal aorta.
*Carotid artery disease (CAD) is a condition caused by plaque builds up inside the carotid arteries. of the neck.
* Arteriovenous malformation (AVM), is a condition associated with an abnormal tangle of blood vessels connecting arteries and veins.
*Pulmonary embolism (blood clots) is a condition caused by the sudden blockage of an artery in the lung,
* Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is caused by a blood clot formed in a vein deep.
Symptoms of vascular disease are totally depending on the types of conditions.
According to the statistics, vascular diseases are becoming an epidemic in the US. Approximately 8.5 million people in the US are living with Peripheral artery disease (PAD), one of the most common types of vascular disease.
Some researchers suggested that the rise of aging patients with vascular disease may be correlated to the promotion of high-fat diet over the past few decades in inducing a large population with obesity and Type II diabetes in the US.
Dr. Morteza Mowlaie, the lead scientist wrote, " Significant positive association between left ventricular hypertrophy and plaque score and also a significant positive association between left ventricular hypertrophy with the presence of chest pain was found (p<0.05)"
And, "Association of diabetes mellitus with the presence of chest pain was positive. A positive correlation between hypertension with plaque score was demonstrated too (p<0.05). Also, an inverse association of plaque score with left ventricular ejection fraction was detected too (p<0.05)".
In other words, vascular disease is a condition associated with patients with obesity and diabetes.
The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongings to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.
With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of impaired cells of the endothelium in the onset of many chronic and acute vascular diseases, researches examined the effect of cucumbers water/ethanol extract of Cucumis sativus L. (CSE) fruit on the damaging effect of pro-inflammatory lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
In vitro, a model of endothelial cells induced overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines with lipopolysaccharide (LPS) are incubated with a water/ethanol extract of Cucumis sativus L. (CSE) fruit.
CSE protected the integrity and viability of endothelial cells against LPS-induced cytotoxicity and decreased the cellular detachment, restoring the expression of tight junction ZO-1 that interacts with proteins associated with adherens junctions.
The increase of TLR4 expression associated with pathogen recognition and activation of innate immunity caused by LPS was also inhibited by the injection of CSE.
Futhermore, CSE also protected the endothelial cells by increasing the function of gene Heme oxygenase (HO)-1 involved in inhibition of oxidative stress.
Moreover, CSE not only inhibited the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines produced by the administration of LPS but also exhibited the expression of anti-inflammatory cytokines and its detoxed enzymes.
Additonally, also in vitro, the angiogenesis induced by inflammatory LPS was prevented by the presence of Cucumis sativus L. extract (CSE), at any doses tested.
After taking into account other factors, researchers suggested that Cucumis sativus L. extract has attenuated lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response in endothelial cells, thus reducing the onset of many chronic and acute vascular diseases.
Taken altogether, cucumber may be used for the treatment of chronic and acute vascular diseases, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of CuB in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea, The Liver Protective Functional Food
Liver disease is a reduced function in toxin elimination of liver as a result of damage or injury caused by medication, viral infection,...
Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine, or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.
According to the joint study lead by the Zhujiang Hospital of Southern Medical University Guangzhou, in the review of the database of PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang and Weipu databases, regular green tea drinking is associated to a significant reduction in the risk of liver disease, including hepatocellular carcinoma, liver steatosis, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis and chronic liver disease.
Also, Green tea demonstrated a reduced risk of liver disease regardless of the race and geography of the patients resided such as Asian, American and European subgroups.
Unfortunately, in a mouse model, different doses of GT fractions and EGCG and a single dose of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) combined with EGCG, administered for 5 days to mice suggested that mice fed with combining a single high dose of EGCG with a single dose of LPS showed to induce liver injury.
Repeat injection of EGCG in the group also found to associate to mild liver injury, probably was attributed to the adverse effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), the study insisted.
Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCG) is one of the major and powerful antioxidants of green tea found to be most effective cancer chemopreventive polyphenol in many studies posted on medical literature. However, the single ingredients extract has also been found to induce hepatotoxicity and acute liver dysfunction in many occasions due to overdoses and long term usages.
Additionally, according to the Baylor College of Medicine and Dalhousie University, Halifax reported, "(There is) a case of acute impending liver failure in an adolescent male using a weight-loss product containing green tea extract" and "acute liver toxicity observed in individuals consuming supplements containing green tea extract".
Taking all together, the conflict result of green tea in liver disease may be a result of study design, group selection, sample size, doses intake,........People with liver disease should talk to a specialist of herbal products before consuming.
