Green Tea in Protection Against Chronological and Photo Aging

Although no one can avoid aging, the process can be slow down. Green tea may have a potential and positive effect in delay the process through its anti-aging phytochemicals, some scientists suggested.

The investigation of green tea properties in anti-aging effect was found to associate many different mechanisms involved the expression of some major polyphenols.

According to the investigation of the experiment of 45 male mice model divided into 5 groups induced aging through injection of d-galactose in the period of 8 weeks in compared to positive control fed with Vitamin C (VitC), mice treated with green tea, bioactive Epigallocatechin gallate(EGCG) once a day by subcutaneously inject after 5h of injecting d-galactose exerted a antioxidant effect in improved overall skin condition and whole structure of skin in compared to positive control at the end of study.

Further analysis also found that the chemical constituents of green tea inhibited the overproduction of oxidative stress caused by the injection of d-galactose through neutralized ROS insults to maintain good dermal health.

Interestingly, compared to control, green tea EGCG also increased the expression of epidermal growth factor in stimulated skin growth at the cellular level and increase collagen production in protecting skin against aging senility.

Moreover, the evaluated characteristics of human skin and how photo-aging (extrinsic aging) occur via the impact of ROS production by cascade signaling pathways indicated that administration of green tea extracts (GTEs) protects the affect of aging skin through inhibited cutaneous erythema induced of redness of the skin, thickening of the epidermis involved overexpression of CK5/6 in promoted cutaneous neoplasms, a new and abnormal growth of skin tissue and cytokeratin(CK16) in induction of expression in abnormal skin epithelial patterns.

Indeed, the expression green tea also showed a strong implication in reduced matrix metalloproteinases 2-9 (MMP-2, MMP-9) activities in elevated skin changes and depletion of CD1a(+) LCs in the induction of skin inflammation, caused by UVR application

In chronological (intrinsic) aging, administration of polyphenols, which are secondary plant metabolites also found to protect against skin aging through the exhibition of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, according to the existing literature, linking skin aging and the ability of polyphenols as regulatory elements with function in maintained skin homeostasis.

Dr. Davinelli S, said at end of the study, "Polyphenols exert their influence mostly through their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, thereby abrogating collagen degradation and/or increasing procollagen synthesis".

Finally, in the 33 healthy Asian subjects, all men enrolled after consent in a placebo-controlled comparative study with a split face design with one group applied multiple emulsions with green tea and the second group applied multiple emulsions with lotus extract, while a third group applied a multiple emulsion with a combination of both extracts, once daily over the 60-day treatment researchers found that all groups show a significant improvement in skin roughness (SEr), scaliness (SEsc), smoothness (SEsm), and wrinkling (SEw). In compared to the other 2 groups, green tea and lotus combined in multiple emulsions brought a superior synergistic anti-aging effect.

Dr. Mahmood T, the lead author, after taking into account of other confounders, said, "diverse anti-oxidant constituents in both plants have a potential influence on skin surface parameters, thus indicating these plants as the future of new anti-aging products".

Taken together, green tea bioactive polyphenols may be considered as a functional food used as a topical or oral injection to delay skin aging process through overexpression antioxidant in improved in both chronological (intrinsic) and photo-aging (extrinsic) aging.

Green Tea in Ameliorated Hair Loss and Promoted Hair Re-Growth

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced hair loss and stimulated hair growth, some scientists suggested.

Hair loss can be temporary or permanent but in most cases it is a result of the levels of by-product prolactin of testosterone of men increases, stimulating the production of the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase that causes the conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT, leading to hair grow-back thinner or not grow-back at all, particularly in people with androgenic alopecia hair loss problem.

According to statistic, approximately 40% of men have noticeable hair loss by age 35, 65% by age 60, and 80% by age 80.

Green tea, bioactive polyphenolic compounds in attenuated hair loss were found to associate to several mechanisms, involved certain aspects.

The examine of green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), a major constituent of polyphenol on human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in the prevention or treatment of androgenetic alopecia showed that injection of the green tea extract express a strong effect in inhibition of 5alpha-reductase activity in conversion of testosterone to gihydro-testosterones DHT selectively in the activated human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) in stimulated hair follicle growth.

Further analysis suggested that EGCG activity in enhanced growth of human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) was attributed to influence hair growth by dermal papilla cells proliferation through the activation of ERK pathways involved functions in the regulation of cell cycle in the division and Akt pathway in promoted cells survival and growth.

Additional observation also found that green tea extract also increased the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax which has been found to associate to lower dermal papilla cells apoptosis and stimulate hair follicle regrowth.

More interestingly, the evaluation of the effect of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in induced androgenic alopecia by shortening the hair follicle growth phase, resulting in hair loss in animal models, application of green tea epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) protected against dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in induction of mediated human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) death through cell cycle arrest, cell viability, the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and senescence by inhibiting expression of alternated mRNA in human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) induced by dihydrotestosterone (DHT) activity, thus increasing the regrowth of hair follicle, subsequently, in stimulated hair to grow back.

Dr. Shin S, the lead author of the study said, "EGCG ameliorates the negative effects of DHT by altering the miRNA expression profile in human DPCs".

Houttuynia cordata Thunb (HC), a traditional herbal medicine widely used in Asia for the treatment of patients with alopecia containing green tea (GT) as a major ingredient, in 25 days experiment of six-week-old male C57BL/6 mice randomly divided into four groups (negative control, finasteride (1 mg/kg),a positive control, and two groups fed with 200 and 400 mg/kg concentrations expressed a strong effect of area of hair regrowth 70.2 % and 83.5 % respectively, in compared to of 55.1 % negative control group. And increased diameter of hair follicles was 11.9 μm, 17.4 μm and 22.8 (±5.2) μm also found in the negative control, herbal complex 200 and 400 mg/kg group, respectively.

Furthermore, the application of herbal formula at the doses indicated also increased expression of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 which has a direct implication on the clinical improvement of hair growth and decreased expression of TGF-β1 alternated mRNA transcription activated by androgen in human dermal papilla cells (DPCs) to induce gradually hair loss.

Finally, on hair loss among rodents, 60 female Balb/black mice with hair loss on the head, neck and dorsal areas were assigned randomly assigned to group A fed with 50% fraction of polyphenol extract from dehydrated green tea in their drinking water for six months and Group B received regular drinking water, researchers after taking into account of other confounders, found that mice fed with green tea extract demonstrate a significant hair regrowth of 33% during six months of treatment in compared to no hair growth control.

Taken together, green tea with abundant bioactive polyphenols such as epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may have a significant clinical effect in promoted hair growth and ameliorated hair loss.
through many direct and indirect perspectives. Intake of green tea extract should be taken with special care as overdoses were found to induce acute liver toxicity in some reports.

Bromelain Promotes and Removes Eschar In Burn Wounds, Human Trials Show

Eschar is a dry, dark scab of dead skin associated with a certain skin condition.

Most cases of eschar are associated with burning or cauterizing that stop bleeding, or prevent the spread of infection.

Most common causes of eschar are burned, a condition that causes severe skin damage. Burn wound can recover without serious health consequences in a few days or weeks depending on the size of the burns.

Burns depending on the severity can be classified into
* First-degree burns affect only the epidermis or outer layer of the skin accompanied by the symptoms of is red, painful, dry, and with no blisters on the affected site.

* Second-degree burns affect the epidermis and part of the dermis layer of the skin accompanied by the symptoms of red, blistered, and swollen and painful on the affected site.

* Third-degree burns not only to destroy the epidermis and dermis but also damage the underlying bones, muscles, and tendons accompanied by no symptoms due to completely damage of the nerves in the area.

Believe it or not, 10 percent burns of a child's body and 15 to 20 percent burns of an adult's body are considered to be major injuries and require medical attention and hospitalization.
Most common types of burns are* Thermal burns caused by external heat sources.

* Radiation burns caused by prolonged exposure to ultraviolet rays of the sun or radiotherapy.

* Chemical burns caused by acids, alkalies, detergents, or solvents.

* Electrical burns caused by electrical current.

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of diabetic foot burns, researchers examined the effect of bromelain-based enzymatic debridement with Nexobrid® (Mediwound) on surgical tangential excision of deep dermal and full thickness burns.

According to the retrospective case series that identified four patients with diabetic foot burns,
Nexobrid® debridement showed significant activity in the development of further eschar and deepening of their wounds a few days after NexoBrid was applied.

In other words, Nexobrid® debridement protects the skin against the formation of dry, dark scab or falling away of dead skin due to surgical tangential excision of deep dermal and full thickness burns.

Based on the finding, Dr. Berner JE, the lead scientist said, "We would recommend judicious use of this new product in patients with diabetic foot wounds".

Moreover, the joint study led by the University of Heidelberg based on the mutual experience of applying enzymatic debridement in more than 500 adult and pediatric patients by the consensus panelists suggested that the degree of consensus was remarkably high, with a unanimous consensus in 88.2% of statements, and the lowest degree of consensus of 70% in only 3 statements.

More precisely, most patients support the use of Nexobrid® debridement for the treatment of removed eschar in burn wounds and reduced blood loss.

After taking other factors into account, Dr. Hirche C, the lead researcher wrote, "This consensus document may serve as a preliminary guideline for the use of enzymatic debridement with user-oriented recommendations until further evidence and systematic guidelines are available".

Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with conventional medicine may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of eschar in burn wounds, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Turmeric Induces Cytotoxicity Against Cancer Cells in Vitro

Cytotoxicity is an action that kills cancer cells by inducing toxin. Cytotoxicity to cancer cell has been used in chemotherapy to kill cancer cells but it also exerts a negative impact in the nearby healthy cells.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by cell growth irregularly in the tissue of specific organs. At the advanced stage, the most malignant cancer cell can travel a distance away to infect other healthy tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis through blood and fluids circulation.

Conventionally, chemotherapy depending on the types of drugs may induce side effects of
* Fatigue is a result of a chemo drug that kills cells discriminatorily.

* Hair loss is a result of a chemo drug that damages the hair follicles.

* Easy bruising and bleeding and infection are the results of reduced function of coagulation and weakened the immune system.

* Anemia (low red blood cell counts) is caused by the killing of the red blood cells.

* Nausea and vomiting and appetite changes are some general symptoms of chemo drugs. Delayed nausea and vomiting most commonly starts more than 24 hours after chemo and up to 5 to 7 days after treatment

* Constipation is the effects of chemo drug on the digestive system.

Treatment of side effects is completely depending on the symptoms.

Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.

With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of cancer, researchers examined the nanoemulsion developed as an advanced form for improving the delivery of turmeric extract-loaded nanoemulsion powder-10.6 (TE-NEP-10.6, high content of artificial surfactant Tween 80), which forms the optimal nanoemulsion, and the TE-NEP-8.6 made by increasing the content of natural emulsifier (lecithin) on reducing risk chemotoxicity.

In cultured NIH3T3, H9C2, HepG2, hCPC, and hEPC, nanoemulsion treatment exerted no significant difference in cell viability in all tested cell lines.

Both nanoemulsion treatments showed no toxicity at an experimental concentration of less than 1 mg/mL.

However, the cell survival rate of all tested primary cultured cells decreased in a concentration-dependent manner.

In other words, both nanoemulsion powder-10.6 and TE-NEP-8.6 inhibited the cancer cells grow without affecting chemotoxicity.

Additionally, according to the results of a joint study led by The New College (Autonomous), phyto-synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) including aqueous garlic, green tea, and turmeric extracts not only showed significant antioxidant activity against the DNA alternation in the initiation of cancer but also enhanced the cytotoxicity activity against four cancer cell lines such as human breast adenocarcinoma (MCF-7), cervical (HeLa), epithelioma (Hep-2) and lung (A549) along with one normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDF) cell line.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "The AgNPs synthesized using turmeric extract exhibits excellent antioxidant and cytotoxicity activity compared to that synthesized using other extracts".

Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea Bioactive Polyphenols In Reduced Weight Gain and Promoted Weight Loss

Green tea polyphenols may have a therapeutic effect in reduced weight gain through decreased hormone expression with function direct influence of excess energy deposit, some scientists opinionated.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world. However, as yin in nature herbal medicine or food, long term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Weight gain is an increase in body weight, involved an increase in muscle mass, fat deposits, excess fluids.

In the compared green tea, polyphenols [epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC)] in decoction of green tea leaves versus usual green tea extracts to evaluate the effect in weigh gain in obese animal models fed with high fat diet, researchers after taking into account of other con-founders suggested that green tea decoction acute administration of GTD with 2/3 EGCG+1/3 EGC inhibited SGLT-1 activity involved distinct and complementing glucose homeostasis through absorbing glucose from the diet in the small intestine and by reabsorbing the filtered glucose in the tubular system of the kidney, thus reducing access energy being converted to glycogen or fat and deposit in liver, muscles and fat cells.

Additionally, green tea decoction not only improved glucose tolerance but also demonstrated a significant increase GLUT2 protein in facilitated glucose movement across cell membranes in the regulation of glucose absorption in the distribution of dietary sugar to tissues to induce calorie restriction.

Chronic administration of green tea decoction GTD for 6 weeks, in the same experiment models also displayed a huge reduction of body weight gain, circulating triglycerides and cholesterol and improved glucose tolerance, through significantly reduced SGLT-1 as seen in acute application and and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa with function in increase the surface area of tissue available to absorb nutrients from ingested foodstuffs for decreased fat accumulation and glucose in liver.

Dr. Snoussi C, the lead author said, "GTD-treated rats for 6 weeks display significantly reduced SGLT-1 and increased GLUT2 mRNA levels in the jejunum mucosa". This result showed that green tea decoction with polyphenols such as epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC) may have a certain effect in reduced weight gain through decreased fat deposit in the liver and promoted calorie restriction.

Further analysis of C57BL/6J mice fed a high-fat/high-sucrose diet (HF/HS, 32% energy from fat; 25% energy from sucrose) or the same diet supplemented with 0.25% GTP or BTP or a low-fat/high-sucrose (LF/HS, 10.6% energy from fat, 25% energy from sucrose) diet for 4 weeks showed that treatment with decaffeinated green tea (GT) polyphenols inhibited weight gain in mice fed an obesogenic diet as indicated above, through the rearrange the relative proportions of Blautia, Bryantella, Collinsella, Lactobacillus, Marvinbryantia, Turicibacter, Barnesiella, and Parabacteroides is correlated with weight loss by a decrease of cecum Firmicutes and increase in Bacteroidetes in the gastrointestinal tract.
Indeed, GTP not only induces weight loss in association with alteration of the gut microbiota but also increased hepatic AMPK in reaction in sugar metabolism, and energy storage and release.

Interestingly, according to the START Clinic for the Mood and Anxiety Disorders, oral administration of green tea extract induced an unexpected decrease in total body fat mass, a decrease in body fat percentage and an increase in lean body mass in patients with weight gain induced by psychotropic medications.

Taken together, green tea, bioactive active polyphenols epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), epigallocatechin (EGC) may be used as a functional food in reduced weight gain induced by all sources and increased weigh loss through regulation of energy metabolism in fat accumulation.

Navy Bean, the Potential Treatment of Hypertension

High blood pressure or hypertension is a medical condition characterized by abnormally high blood pressure in the arteries. High blood pressure is also a condition in the cluster of metabolic syndrome that increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, and diabetes.

Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing against the walls of the arteries as the heart pumps out blood.

Although at the early stage, high blood pressure usually does not cause symptoms, some patients in extreme cases may experience dizziness and light head, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, flushing, chest pain and visual changes.

Underlying medical conditions such as kidney disease and long term stress are associated with high blood pressure.

More precisely, according to the American hypertension Association, long-term untreated high blood pressure can induce complications such as
* Heart attack is casued by damages arteries due to high blood pressure that leads to the blockage or limited blood flow to the heart muscle.

* Stroke, damage blood vessels in the brain may be clogged and burst.

* Heart failure, high blood pressure increases the risk of enlarged-heart that limits the heart function in blood circulation

Conventional hypertensive medications have undoubtedly prevented many deaths from heart disease in the past 30 years, but they have many side effects.

If you current taking hypertensive medicine, please make sure you know all the side effects for the preventive measure.

Some researchers also found that excessive energy intake and obesity are major causes of hypertension.

Dr. Savica V, the lead author in the study "The effect of nutrition on blood pressure" wrote, "Obesity is associated with increased activity of the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone and sympathetic nervous systems, possibly other mineralocorticoid activity, insulin resistance, salt-sensitive hypertension, and excess salt intake, and reduced kidney function".

High sodium chloride intake strongly predisposes to hypertension".

"Increased alcohol consumption may acutely elevate blood pressure. High intakes of potassium, polyunsaturated fatty acids, and protein, along with exercise and possibly vitamin D, may reduce blood pressure".

The small, white navy bean, also called pea bean or haricot, popular in both dry and green forms, is very popular in Britain and the US, native to Peru. It is now grown and consumed across the world, due to their numerous health benefits.

With an aim to find a potential ingredient for the treatment of hypertension, researchers investigated the inhibitory activities of the navy bean by preparation of navy bean milk (NBM) subjected to fermentation of four lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains, namely, Lactobacillus helveticus MB2-1, Lactobacillus plantarum B1-6, and Lactobacillus plantarum 70810.

According to the tested assays, all fermented NBM showed higher angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity compared to the unfermented ones.

By comparison of each strain, researchers found that 2 h, 3 h, and 5 h are the optimum fermentation periods for respectively L. plantarum 70810, L. plantarum B1-6 and L. bulgaricus.

Compared to the IC value without causing an intestinal disturbance, the extracts fermented by L. plantarum B1-6 exerted the lowest IC50 value of 21 ± 2.1 μg protein ml(-1).

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) is a central component of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which controls blood pressure by regulating the volume of fluids in the body.

In other words, the effect of LAB fermentation on the degradation of navy lean proteins and the capacity to release ACE inhibitory peptides may have a strong effect in the inhibition of hypertension.

Dr. Rui X, after taking other factors into account wrote, "The approach was promising to obtain probiotic products with the potential to serve as functional ingredients targeting hypertension".

Taken altogether, the fermented navy bean may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of hypertension, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Green Tea and Green Tea Bioactive Catechins and Epigallocatechin Gallate in Reduced Risk and Progression and Treatment of Kidney Cancer

Green tea may have a substantial and sustainable effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer, some scientists suggested.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

Kidney cancer is medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of kidney. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away to invade other healthy tissues and organs.

According to statistic, kidney cancer is very uncommon in people younger than age 45 and among the 10 most common cancers in both gender.

Investigation of green tea effect in risk of renal cancer was found to associate to different implications involved numbers of mechanisms, particularly, in green tea bioactive components.

According to the evaluated 250 newly diagnosed, histologically confirmed Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC) cases and 299 sex-, age-matched healthy controls provided complete information by face-to-face interview in Shanghai between 2007 and 2009, application of green tea at dose of ≥500 ml/d demonstrated a significantly inverse association to risk of CCRCC.

Indeed, green tea consumption of lower than the said volume such as 8 oz (237 ml) or more cups/day was also associated to decrease renal cell cancer risk, in compared to non drinkers, according to the report of Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Further analysis also found that interactions with the environmental exposures association to polymorphisms of the xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes in induced CCRCC risk, also inhibited by green tea extract through increasing serum and liver antioxidant capacity and strengthening stability of microsomal and lysosomal membranes of healthy cells in compared to control.

In free radical aspect, the examine Wistar rats induced renal cancer pre-treated with N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) by oral injection of drinking water for 2 weeks, also found that administration of green tea extract catechin ( 0.1% polyphenon-60) over 30 weeks of period of treatment exhibits a significant effect in decreased the incidence of renal cell tumors greater than 3 mm in diameter but not tumors that are less than 3 mm in diameter, through overexpression of antioxidant in suppression of reactive oxygen species (ROS) induced by N-ethyl-N-hydroxyethylnitrosamine (EHEN) pre-treatment.

Importantly, in alternated gene expression in increased prevalence of cancer in human subjects,
application of green tea polyphenol, catechins have been reported to reverse change of DNA methylation in contributed to the tumor repressive gene of RGS2 (regulator of G-protein signaling 2) in modulated expression of cancers and increased the regulation of conversion of DNA to RNA (transcription) of these genes in ameliorated risk of renal and other cancer(s).

Furthermore, application of the combination of green tea extract bioactive catechins and epigallocatechin gallate also showed to modulate DNA methylation by attenuating the effect of DNA methyltransferase 1 (DNMT1) to ensure the fidelity of replication of inherited epigenetic patterns.

Aberrant DNA methylation patterns are associated with increased prevalence of renal and other tumor(s).

Taken together, Green Tea and its polyphenols bioactive compound catechins and epigallocatechin gallate may have a potential and therapeutic effect in reduced risk and treatment of renal cancer through antioxidants and antigene alternative activities.
