Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), some scientists suggested.
Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
The systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the body's immune system abnormal function in attacking healthy tissue in many parts of the body.
In the study of patient with lupus nephritis induced by SLE, researchers found that intake of green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the major bioactive polyphenol displayed a strong antioxidant effect in reduced expression of reactive oxygen species inactivated the activity of pro-inflammatory factors nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB), a protein complex-mediated inflammatory responses under stress stimuli in induction of inflammation.
Further analysis, also indicated that application of green tea EGCG decreased levels of interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-18, the inflammatory cytokines which were found to have a closed link to inflammation and correlated with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Moreover, in the evaluation of 12-week-old New Zealand black/white (NZB/W) F1 lupus-prone mice treated daily with EGCG by gavage until sacrificed at 34 weeks old, researchers at the National Defense Medical Center found that green tea ingestion exerts a strong effect in prevented proteinuria, renal function impairment, and severe renal lesions through increased repression of antioxidant mediated by renal nuclear factor E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and enhanced natural antioxidant of glutathione peroxidase produced by the host body.
The overexpression of antioxidant activity participated by green tea EGCG also ameliorated the free radical in expression of renal oxidative stress, through reduced NF-κB activation in production of inflammatory cytokine and increased anti-inflammatory NLRP3 mRNA/protein expression and mature caspase-1, IL-1β, and IL-18 in response to inflammation caused by immune abnormal activity in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
The result of the study also found that green tea EGCG also enhanced splenic regulatory T (Treg) cell activity in maintain immunologic homeostasis and inhibited autoimmunity.
Additional study of green tea, epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) effect in lupus, researchers suggested that green tea exerted a profound anti-inflammatory activity on immune cells through inhibiting the immune-stimulated phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway in the attenuated inflammatory response.
In fact, the expression of green tea EGCG also reduced the production of nitric oxide (NO) and other inflammatory mediators including iNOS expression, supernatant NO and interleukin-6 in the initiation of mesangial cells inflammation in the kidney under abnormal immunity in patients of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Dr. Peairs A, after taking into account of other co-founders said, " EGCG attenuated inflammation in MRL/lpr mouse mesangial cells via the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway" and "EGCG to regulate inflammation and control autoimmune disease".
The result of above differentiation was supported by the study conducted by the Medical College of Georgia in the evaluation of the green tea polyphenol, (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), affects autoantigen expression in human cells.
Dr. Hsu S, at the end of the experiment, postulated that green tea bioactive polyphenols EGCG inhibited the transcription and translation of major autoantigens, including SS-B/La, SS-A/Ro, coilin, DNA topoisomerase I, and alpha-fodrin through its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic tissue effects.
Taken together, green tea and its bioactive component epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk and progression and combined with conventional therapy for the treatment of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, the intake of green tea supplement should be taken with care in prevented liver acute toxicity.

Green Tea In the Prevention and Treatment of Acute and Chronic Constipation
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk and treatment of acute and chronic constipation, some scientists suggested.
Constipation is a condition of hard to pass stool or not passing stool frequently, affecting 1/6 people over 12 years old in Canada.
In the examine the effects of Pu-erh tea on constipation in ICR mice induced by carbon injection researchers found that mice in control group without administrated Pu-erh green tea expressed a significant weight loss, food and water intake in compared to experiment group.
In compared to first black stool time of normal group of 90 min, control (injection of carbon) of 221 min and bisacodyl treatment group (100 mg/kg in control group) of 118 min, mice in control group treated with green tea at doses of 200, 400 and 800 mg/kg showed an improved stool passing time of 178, 155 and 139 min, respectively.
Importantly, the application of green tea Pu-erh also expressed a strong increase of serum levels of
1. Motilin (MTL) in the blood stream in stimulated the contraction of the fundus and antrum and accelerated gastric emptying;
2. Gastrin, a peptide hormone in the stimulated secretion of gastric acid (HCl) by the parietal cells of the stomach in improved gastric motility;
3. Endothelin (ET), a peptide hormone with function in the contraction of rat stomach strips, rat colon, and guinea pig ileum;
4. Acetylcholine enzyme (AchE) chemical released by motor neurons of the nervous system in order to activate muscles;
5. Substance P (SP) an amino-acids peptide in the induction of rapid contraction of the smooth muscle of the digestive tract and
6. Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP), a potent vasodilator, in regulated smooth muscle activity and blood flow in the gastrointestinal tract.
And the decrease of somatostatin (SS) hormone in reduced gastric acid secretion and emission of gastrointestinal hormones, such as gastrin.
Additionally, in comparison of 2 types of commonly used osmotic laxative polyethylene glycol (PEG), namely PEG with electrolytes mixed with water and PEG without electrolytes mixed with tea or other sources such as juice and coffee for taste, researchers at the Pirkanmaan Erikoislääkäripalvelu conducted a randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study at ten private assisted-living facilities or communal nursing homes in Finland. Selected patients were.required to have used isotonic PEG at a stable dose without any other treatment for constipation (except for Plantago ovata seeds) for at least 2 weeks prior to a run-in period and randomly assigned receive hypotonic PEG or continued to receive isotonic PEG, both dissolved in water, 12 g once or twice daily or once every other day, for 4 weeks, found that the mean (SD) weekly stool frequencies are not different in both hypotonic and isotonic PEG groups, although soft or normal stool consistency of 70% was higher in the hypotonic PEG group in compared to 52% in isotonic PEG group.
Moreover, both products are considered safe without inducing stool straining or gastrointestinal symptoms, although the level of sodium was statistically and significantly lower in the hypotonic PEG group at the last day of testing of the study in compared to another group.
Dr. Seinelä L, after taking into account other co-factors said, "Both treatments appear safe, well-tolerated and, when dissolved in water, well accepted by the majority of the patients. When desired, switching from isotonic to hypotonic PEG can safely take place in elderly individuals without compromising efficacy".
However, a total of 1,705 female Japanese dietetic students aged 18-20 years and free of current disease studies suggested the intake of tea is associated to constipation(3) without mentioning types of tea used in the surveys.
According to the theory of traditional Chinese medicine, green tea is yin in nature with function in relieving indigestion and smoothed bowel movements through promotion of fluid production(4) and constipation is a result of overexpression of yang or deficiency of yin, therefore, we do believe, the tea mentioned in the study were red, black or herbal tea with yang sufficiency.
Taken together, green tea may be considered as a functional food for the prevention and treatment of constipation. Intake of green tea extracts should be taken with exceptional care due to toxicity reported in the medical literature.

Green Tea In Reducing the Risk of Subarachnoid Hemorrhage (SAH)
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reduced risk hemorrhage, some scientists suggested.
Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
Hemorrhage is a condition of vessel rupture, leading to bleeding within the brain tissue.
In the investigation of the effects of green tea polyphenols intake and the risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) study, researchers at the Henan Institute of Science and Technology found that
administration of green tea reduced the early onset of SAH through prevented alteration of mitochondrial membrane potential to the basal level.
Further analysis, also suggested that green tea pre-treatment also decreased the production of Adenosine triphosphate(APT) content, a vasoactive compound found in high concentrations after subarachnoid hemorrhage and the cytochrome c level to induced cell death in the brain cortex after 12 hours in the tested models.
These result suggested that green tea administration not only exerted a significant neuroprotective effect against the polarization of mitochondrial membrane potential and prevented the production of certain proteins and enzymes in the induction of brain damage.
Indeed, over the course of study of a total of 180 mice, 8 (4.4%) died during the experiment, 5 (8.3%) in the SAH group, 3 (5.0%) in the tea polyphenols pretreated model, and 0 in the control group.
And the differentiation of the neurological scores observed for mice with SAH was significantly lower than that of the sham group from 6 h to 72 h after SAH occurrence.
Additionally, pretreatment with tea polyphenols expressed a significant decrease in activity lactic acid dehydrogenase (LDH) levels in the bloodstream, an indication of brain tissue injury and damage in compared to the untreated SAH group.
Dr. Mo H, the lead scientist after taking into account others con-founders, said, "After pretreatment with tea polyphenols, the neurological outcome was also improved(through various implications)".
Interestingly, in a designed to determine the effects of consumption of green tea in reduced risk for subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) in a case-control study consisting incident SAH cases of n=201 matched by age (+/-2 years) and gender to hospital (n=201) and community controls (n=201) from April 1992 to March 1997, researchers at the Aichi Prefectural College of Nursing and Health suggested that habitual green tea consumption is associated inversely in risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).
People who drank one or more cup of green tea per day scored a significant lower risk of 60.3% compared to non-tea drinking group of 70.9%.
More specifically, testing subjects who consumed <1, and >or=1 time per day showed a strong ameliorated risk with an adjusted overall risk ratio of 0.74 and 0.56 respectively, in compared nondaily green tea drinkers.
Okamoto K suggested that risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) is significant reduced linearly depending to numbers of a cup of green intake per day.
Taken together, green tea as powerful antioxidant activity may be considered as a functional food in reduced risk of subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and used a combination with standard medicine for post-treatment of the incidence.

Herbal Turmeric, a Natural Prevention and Treatment of Hyperglycemia
Hyperglycemia is a condition of abnormally high levels of glucose in the bloodstream. The condition also is a hallmark of diabetes. Another hallmark is insulin resistance.
Postprandial blood glucose is the levels taken after 2 hours of a meal, generally at the approximate peak value in patients with diabetes.
Most cases of hyperglycemia are the results of poor diet and glucose management in patients with diabetes. However, missing insulin injection and improper use of insulin injection are also found in some patients.
Management of postprandial blood glucose has become an important feature for diabetics against the risk of microvascular (retinopathy, nephropathy, and neuropathy) and cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Diabetes is a medical and chronic disease characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose as a result of the cells in pancreas died off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.
Most common symptoms of hyperglycemia are increased thirst, headache, frequent peeing, fatigue with blood sugar more than 180 mg/dL.
Depending on the blood glucose levels, some patient may also experience symptoms of trouble concentrating, blurred vision and weight loss.
However, some researchers suggested that poor diet with high saturated and trans fat, red meat and processed foods is one of the major and preventable risk factors associated with the onset of the condition in the Western world compared to a traditional diet.
Dr. David Hefner in the concern of the risk of diabetes in patients who are fans of the Western diet wrote, "The typical Western diet-red meat, high-fat dairy products, refined grains and desserts-may increase your chances for Type 2 diabetes" and "That's what researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health have found and reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine."
The doctor continued, "The news isn't particularly shocking but offers a new view on the health risks of a typical Western diet as a whole, rather than simply attacking elements within the diet such as fatty foods".
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belongings to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
On findings a potential compound for lowering blood glucose, researchers examined the efficacy of curcumin, antihyperglycemic activity.
By searching the medical database in PubMed from 1998 to 2013, associated with the role of curcumin in the development and progression of hyperglycemia and insulin resistance, researchers found that
* Curcumin inhibited the uptakes of blood glucose level by reducing the liver glucose production and suppressing abnormally high blood sugar-induced inflammatory state.
Furthermore, stimulation of glucose uptake associated hyperglycemia caused by overexpression of GLUT4, GLUT2 and GLUT3 genes that facilitate glucose movement across cell membranes was also attenuated by curcumin.
Activation of AMP kinase and promotion of PPAR ligand-binding activity involved in stimulated glucose uptake and lipid oxidation were also reduced by the administration of the bioactive compound.
Additionally, curcumin also inhibited the expression hyperglycemia by modulating the insulin secretion from pancreatic tissues, improving pancreatic cell function, thus reducing the risk of insulin resistance.
Based on the findings, researchers wrote, "Curcumin has antihyperglycemic and insulin sensitizer effects. Thereby, more studies evaluating the effects of curcumin on hyperglycemic state and insulin resistance in related disorders such as diabetes are recommended".
Taken altogether, turmeric processed abundantly bioactive compound curcumin may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of hyperglycemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Cucumber, The Best for the Treatment of Hyperlipidemia, According to Human Trial
Hyperlipidemia is a condition of abnormally high blood lipid in the bloodstream a major cause of plaque accumulation on the arterial wall that leads to the increased risk of heart disease and stroke.
Cholesterol produced either by the liver or fat intake is essential to aid the digestive system in digesting foods and absorbing nutrient before passing them to other parts of the body, build a strong cell wall, produce vitamin D and steroid hormone.
There are 2 main types of cholesterol. The low-density lipoprotein (LDL) which carries the aforementioned function and the high-density lipoprotein (HDL)which returns the cholesterol back to the liver for reuse in the future.
The healthy blood cholesterol ratio of total blood cholesterol of LDL/ HDL is any numbers that are less than 4.
People with high blood cholesterol are asymptomatic. Conventionally, the condition can be lowered by regular intake of blood cholesterol-lowering medicine.
Most common risk factors that cause the onset of high blood cholesterol are unhealthy diet and physical inactivity.
Some researchers in the examination of the widespread high blood cholesterol over the past few decades probably are associated with the promotion of the high-fat diet in the US.
Dr. Cole TG, the lead scientist wrote," In normals, dietary cholesterol increases LDL production and decreases LDL receptor-related LDL clearance, resulting in elevations in LDL cholesterol levels of approximately 30 mg/dL".
Therefore, by changing behaviors in lifestyle, you may just be doing fine without medication. Please sure you tale to your doctor before withholding.
The cucumber plant is a species of Cucumis Sativus, belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and native to Western Asia. It is a creeping vine with roots in the ground and grows up with the support of frames.
On finding a natural compound for the treatment of hyperlipidemia with no side effects, researchers examined the efficacy of Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) seed, used traditionally as a lipid-lowering nutritional supplement.
The randomized double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial included hyperlipidemic patients with inclusion criteria randomly and equally assigned to either Cucumis or placebo groups or one medicinal or placebo capsule, once daily with food for 6 weeks.
According to the tested assays obtained from 23 patients in Cucumis group and 23 patients in the placebo group completed the study, cucumber seed extract-treated group showed a significant reduction of total cholesterol, and BMI index compared to baseline taken before the treatment
The extract also increased the levels of high-density lipoprotein (HLD) compared to placebo.
More precisely, at a concentration of daily dose of 500 mg, the consumption of C. sativus seed extract daily, exerted strong effects on serum lipid profile in tested adult hyperlipidemic patients.
In other words, daily injection at the ceratin dose may have a desirable effect in the prevention of hyperlipidemia in facilitating the onset of cholesterol build-up on the arteries and risk of cardiovascular disease.
Based on the results, researchers said, "Cucumber seed could be considered as a food supplement for treatment of dyslipidemia".
Taken altogether, cucumber may be used for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Phytochemical Betacyanins Inhibits the Parameters Which Cause the Onset of Cognitive Deficit
Cognitive deficit is a medical condition associated with the impairment of a person's mental processes and the ability to acquire information and knowledge that interact with the outside world.
Most common causes of cognitive deficit include the genetic preposition, birth defects that affect the central nervous system such as Down syndrome and fragile X syndrome, malnutrition, prematurity, and conditions that were caused decreased oxygen to the brain.
Some researchers suggested that age degeneration, neurons injury that causes the death of some neurons involved in cognition, brain cancer in the cognitive region and environmental factors also associated with the risk of cognitive deficit.
Some early signs and symptoms of cognitive deficits may include signs of global developmental delay in childhood such as language, walking, self-care skills, and/or imitative play, delay cognitive skill compared to the most children in the same age, particularly difficult in performing of school works.
If your child has some of the social, adaptive, cognitive, language, gross motor and fine motor problem, please check with his/her doctor to rule out the possibility of cognitive deficit.
As of today, there is no cure for the cognitive deficit. The aim of the treatment is to improve the quality of life and reduce symptoms and delay the progression of the diseases.
Betacyanins are phytochemicals in the class of red and yellow indole-derived pigments, belonging to the group of Betalains, found abundantly in beets, chard, etc.
With an aim to find a potential and natural ingredient for the treatment of cognitive deficit, researchers assessed the protective effect of betacyanins isolated from Portulaca oleracea L. against the D-galactose (D-gal)-induced neurotoxicity in mice.
Based on the behavioral tests, D-galactose (D-gal)-induced neurotoxicity in mice treated by betacyanins showed a strong effect on the improvement of learning and memory impairments.
Additionally, the levels of brain antioxidant levels such as superoxide dismutases (SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) in D-gal-treated mice were significantly increased by the injection of betacyanins.
Furthermore, lipid peroxidation product found in the brain tissues and neurons such as malondialdehyde (MDA) was decreased by betacyanin administration.
Moreover, levels of the activities of SOD, CAT GR, and GPx in the mouse brain, had a significant negative correlation compared to the positive correlation of the level of MDA with the mouse cognitive impairment.
In other words, oxidative stress caused by D-galactose (D-gal)-induced neurotoxicity induced low levels of antioxidants enzymes such as SOD, CAT GR and GPx in the mouse brain were restored by the injection of betacyanins.
Based on the finding, researchers wrote in the final report, "These results suggest that the neuroprotective effect of betacyanins against D-gal-induced neurotoxicity might be caused, at least in part, by an increase in the activities of antioxidant enzymes with a reduction in lipid peroxidation" and "the betacyanins had a more pronounced effect on ameliorating cognition deficits in mice".
Taken altogether, betacyanins may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of cognition deficits, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of betacyanins in the form of supplement should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry in the Prevention and Treatment of Psoriasis
Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease caused by speeding up the life cycle of skin cells that lead to patches of abnormal skin.
Psoriasis may be localized which causes red, dry, itchy, and scaly skin patches in the affected area.
In cases of severity, psoriasis can cover the body completely.
Some patients also experience symptoms of thickened, pitted or ridged nails and swollen and stiff joints.
If you experience some of the aforementioned symptoms, please check with your doctor for preventive measure.
The causes of psoriasis are not identified, however, researchers believed that genetic proposition exacerbated by certain factors such as weather, injury, illness, or stress are some of the most causable factors that induce the onset of the condition.
Other risk factors associated with psoriasis may include skin injury that did not heal properly, people who are obese and side effects of long term use of certain medicines such as oral steroids.
Some researchers suggested smoking that has a strong impact on the immune system may also be one of the major causes of psoriasis in smokers.
Dr. wrote, "A number of inflammatory immune-related conditions have been associated with smoking, including psoriasis. Smoking affects the onset of psoriasis".
And, " Several pathophysiological mechanisms may explain the association of psoriasis with smoking, including oxidative stress, interaction with signaling pathways active in psoriasis, and vascular influences".
The findings strongly suggested, if you smoke, you are at a higher risk of psoriasis
Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.
The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.
With an aim to find a natural and therapeutic ingredient for the treatment of psoriasis, researchers
a cosmeceutical formulation based on boswellic acids and Vaccinium myrtillus seed oil in patients with psoriasis.
The double-blind study is to compare a novel BA formulation (containing Bosexil(®), INCI [International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients]: lecithin, Boswellia serrata resin extract) with a placebo formulation and a formulation of Vaccinium myrtillus (Bilberry) seed oil.
More precisely, patients with psoriasis or erythematous eczema were randomly assigned, in a 1:1:1 ratio, to Bosexil(®), V. myrtillus seed oil, or placebo.
During the experiment, Bosexil(®) and the V. myrtillus seed oil treatment significantly improved psoriasis, scales in comparison with placebo.
Formulation of Vaccinium myrtillus seed oil exerted a similar effect as those of Bosexil(®) without any case of worsening compared to placebo.
Furthermore, V. myrtillus seed oil improved itch and erythema in 66.7% and 77.8% of patients, respectively compared to the Bosexil(®) formulation of (60% of cases) and erythema (60% of cases) without any case of worsening, respectively.
The results clearly suggested that V. myrtillus seed oil and Bosexil(®) formulation process a strong anti-psoriasis activity without side effects.
Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functioning remedy for the treatment of psoriasis, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.
