Herbal Alfalfa may process an estrogenic effect for the treatment of estrogen-deficient diseases and symptoms, some studies found.
The estrogenic effect is an action that stimulates the production of the hormone estrogen in case of deficiency.
Menopause symptoms are a set of symptoms caused by the gradual decline of levels of estrogen and progesterone due to aging loss menstrual period in women.
The reproductive tract, the urinary tract, the heart and blood vessels, bones, breasts, skin, hair, mucous membranes, pelvic muscles normally regulated by hormone estrogen also are affected by the decline levels of the hormone.
In the concern of hormone therapy used for the treatment of menopause symptoms, herbal medicine with estrogenic effect have been under intensive investigation, with an aim to find a natural ingredient with the similar effects as of those used in hormone therapy with no side effects.
Dr. the lead scientist at the Pan-American Health Organization/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Traditional Medicine launched an evaluation to examine the estrogenic activity of seventeen plant species collected and extracted in Costa Rica.
Interestingly, only 6 of the plant extracts bound to the ERs with 4 of the six extracts stimulated reporter gene expression, according to the ER-beta-Chemically Activated Luciferase Expression assay.
Four extracts exerted estrogenic activity also act as estrogen agonists.
In other words, these extracts induced the production of estrogen when the body needs and inhibited levels of estrogen when the hormone is overexpressed in the body.
Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae.
The herbal plant has been cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding.
The leaves, sprouts, and seeds to make medicine has been used in traditional medicine over thousands of year to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance the digestive system, bleeding disorder, kidney, and urinary tract infection, etc.
North America aboriginal has used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.
The chemical constituents of alfalfa include flavones, isoflavones, sterols, Bichanin A, Coumestrol Diadzein, Formonetin, Genistein, and coumarin derivatives, etc.
A study to determine whether estrogenic botanical supplement (EBS) use influences breast cancer survivors' health-related outcomes.was conducted by the research team at the Beckman Research Institute.
The study includes 767 breast cancer survivors who filled out the returned questionnaire suggested that EBS improve quality of life by reducing some of the symptom associated with 15 hormone-related symptoms such as hot flashes and night sweats.
However, Dr. Ma H, the lead author after taking into account co and confounders said, "Our findings indicate that several specific types of EBS might have important influences on a woman's various aspects of quality of life".
Additionally, in the study to clarify the effect of phytoestrogens is a group of lipophilic plant compounds, researchers launched an investigation to examine examined the proliferative effects of phytoestrogens on a rat pituitary tumor cell line, GH3/B6/F10, originally subcloned from GH3 cells based on its ability to express high levels of the membrane estrogen receptor-alpha.
The phytoestrogen compounds included in the study at the range of different concentrations are coumestrol, daidzein, genistein, and trans-resveratrol.
All four phytoestrogens attenuated the proliferative effects of estradiol when administered simultaneously.
Except for trans-resveratrol, all phytoestrogens increased GH3/B6/F10 cell proliferation at some concentration relevant to dietary levels.
All phytoestrogens exerted significant anti-proliferative activity, but with time course patterns that often differed from that of estradiol and each other.
More importantly, except for trans-resveratrol, a serum removal-induced extrinsic apoptotic pathway was blocked by these phytoestrogens.
These results clearly suggested, injection of single ingredients of phytochemicals may both tumorigenic and anti-tumorigenic effects and intake of the estrogenic whole food which processed all the ingredient exerted a strong anti-tumorigenic activity.
Taken all together, there is no doubt that herbal Alfalfa processed a strong estrogenic effect may be considered a functional food for the treatment of diseases and symptoms associated with estrogen deficiency.

Herbal Aloe Vera, The Potential Cure of Gastric Ulcer With No Side Effects
Scientists may have found a natural herbal medicine for the treatment of gastric ulcer without inducing any side effects, some studies suggested.
Gastric ulcer is the medical condition characterized by the open sores that develop on the inside lining of the stomach. If the open sores are developed in the upper part of the small intestine, it is a duodenal ulcer.
Most common cause of the gastric ulcer, represented over 30% of all cases is associated with the infection of H. pylori.
Certain medical conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and long-term use of some medication such as alendronate (Fosamax) and risedronate (Actonel) are also the prevalent risk factors that elevate the disease onset.
Most common symptoms of a gastric ulcer are gastrointestinal discomforts, blood in your stool, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath with physical activity, and persistent fatigue.
Some patients with a severe gastric ulcers may also experience symptoms of vomiting blood, feeling faint or losing consciousness. However, 75% of patients with gastric ulcers do not feel any symptoms.
If you have some of the above symptoms, please make that you check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of the condition.
Treatment of gastric ulcer is totally depending on the causes, such as histamine receptor blockers (H2 blockers) or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) for patients with gastric ulcers induced by overproduction of stomach acid and the antibiotics for the infection caused by H. pylori.
Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan.
The herb has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits. Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol, etc.
It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.
The ten main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols. All ingredients work together in a synergistic way to create healing and health-giving benefits, according to Gertrude Baldwin in the article of THE BENEFITS OF THE USE OF ALOE VERA IN HERBAL PREPARATIONS.
In the study to examine the effects of Aloe vera and sucralfate on gastric microcirculatory changes, cytokine levels, and gastric ulcer healing in 48 Male Spraque-Dawley rat divided into four groups as the following, group1 served a as control group, group 2 as gastric ulcer group without treatment, groups 3 and 4 as gastric ulcer treatment groups with sucralfate and Aloe vera, researchers found
* On day 1 after induction of gastric ulcer and before treatment the leukocyte adherence in postcapillary venule was significantly increased in the ulcer groups, an indication of the immune response to the gastric damage when compared to the control group. The level of TNF-alpha was elevated and the level of IL-10 was reduced, an indication of overexpression of pro-inflammatory cytokines.
* In the ulcer groups treated with sucralfate and Aloe vera, leukocyte adherence was reduced in postcapillary venule. The level of IL-10 was elevated, but the level of TNF-. alpha had no significant difference, an indication of the leading process with the presence of anti-inflammatory cytokine.
* On day 8, the leukocyte adherence in postcapillary venule and the level of TNF-alpha were still increased and the level of IL-10 was reduced in the ulcer group without treatment.
Dr. Eamlamnam K, the lead scientist at the final days of the study, wrote, "histopathological examination of the stomach on days 1 and 8 after induction of gastric ulcer showed that gastric tissue was damaged with inflammation. In the ulcer groups treated with sucralfate and Aloe vera on days 1 and 8, gastric inflammation was reduced, epithelial cell proliferation was enhanced and gastric glands became elongated".
The results further confirm the efficacy of Aloe vera in promoting gastric ulcer healing, through the expressions of leukocyte adherence and TNF-alpha level, elevate IL-10 level.
Additionally, in the examination of the anti-inflammatory effects of Aloe vera on leukocyte-endothelium in the gastric microcirculation of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori)-infected of 36 male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into 3 groups: control, H. pylori-infected, and A. vera-treated group (200 mg/kg b.w., twice daily). researchers found that
* H. pylori-infected group shows a significant increase of the leukocyte adhesion cells and the TNF-alpha level compared with the control group on day 8.
* After treatment with A. vera H. pylori-infected group exerts a reduced leukocyte adhesion and TNF-alpha significantly.
Dr. Prabjone R, the lead author at the final conclusion said, "enhancement in leukocyte-endothelium interaction could be improved by the treatment of A. vera, associated with the reduction in TNF-alpha level".
Interestingly, in the acute gastric mucosal lesions induced by 0.6 M HCl and acid output Aloe vera endowed with gastric acid anti-secretory activity were found to protect the gastric mucosa at low concentrations against injurious agents. Its bioactive component, the Polymer fraction reduces 50% of the mRNA expressions of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and neuronal nitric oxide synthase (nNOS) in the initiation of the pathogenesis of inflammation.
Taken altogether, herbal Aloe vera may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of gastric ulcer without inducing any side effects.
However, due to the limitation of the above studies, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food or its bioactive compounds during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of herbal Aloe vera anti-gastric ulcers possibilities.

Herbal Andrographis and Rheumatoid Arthritis
Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka. It has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic in treating the common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia, swollen lymph nodes, leprosy, bronchitis, sore throats, tuberculosis, chickenpox, etc.
Rheumatoid Arthritis has defined as a chronic disorder as a result of inflammation, affecting mostly the flexible (synovial) joints and tissues and organs in the body. The disease affects more women than in men and generally occurs after the ages of 40 and diminishes the quality of life of many elders.
The Ingredients
Besides the main ingredient andrographolides, giving the plant a bitter taste, other ingredients includediterpene lactones, such as neoandrographolide, andrographiside, 14-doexy-11, 12-didehydro andrographolide, etc., flavonoinds viz., oroxylin, wogonin, andrographidines A, B, C, D, E, F.
The benefits
Andrographis paniculata (AP) possesses anti-inflammatory effects, as a result of its main constituent andrographolide proposed as alternative in the treatment of autoimmune disease, according to the study of Tablets (Paractin) made of an extract of A. paniculata (30% total andrographolides) were administered three times a day for 14 weeks, after a 2-week washout period to 60 patients with active RA. In the study of osteoclast formation, AP suppressed RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis through attenuating NF-κB and ERK/MAPK signaling pathways in vitro, thus preventing bone loss in vivo. of which may be a potential therapeutic natural compound for the treatment of osteoclast-related bone diseases. Others in the study of the pseudo-tumoral expansion of fibroblast-like synoviocytes which is a hallmark of rheumatoid arthritis (RA), showed that andrographolide exerts anti-growth and pro-apoptotic effects on RAFLSs, thus may have therapeutic potential for the treatment of RA. by induced cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human rheumatoid arthritis fibroblast-like synoviocytes.
The Side effects
1. Antifertility
Dry leaf powder of A. paniculata increases the risk accumulating of glycogen and cholesterol in the testis, and increased activities of lactate dehydrogenase in testis and alkaline phosphatase in testis and ventral prostate, thus reducing the risk of fertility.
2. People with gallbladder disease may want to consult with their doctor before using because of the herb stimulating gallbladder contraction effect.
3. Etc.

Healthy Kitchen Spice Turmeric, a Natural Prevention and Treatment of Tropical Pancreatitis
Tropical pancreatitis is a special medical condition of chronic pancreatitis found mainly in tropical countries.
According to the Indian statistics, the prevalence of tropical pancreatitis is about 126/100,000 population in southern India involved mostly in the pancreatic duct in the younger population.
Recently, the disease has been found to increase at an alarming rate in the older population in Southern Indian, due to excessive alcohol consumption and smoking.
Some researchers suggested that dietetic, environmental and socioeconomic factors change over the years, that cause the environment-gene interactions may increase the risk of the onset of the disease.
In other words, diet change from a traditional diet to a high-fat diet, malnutrition, medical condition such as infection and weakened immunity and excessive alcoholism and smoking has been found to facilitate the gene mutation such as SPINK1 in older adults with tropical pancreatitis in the tropical region.
Clinically, symptoms of patients with tropical pancreatitis are severe abdominal pain, leading to the onset of diabetes in 25% of patients who require daily insulin injection.
As of today, there is no cure for the disease. Conventional medicines used for the treatment are focusing on reduced symptoms of pain and improve quality of life.
Dr. Tandon RK, the lead scientist said, " Endotherapy coupled with stone fragmentation by extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy is an effective therapy for those who fail to respond to medical therapy".
And, "Surgical decompression of the main pancreatic duct by lateral pancreaticojejunostomy is reserved for patients with severe pain non-responsive to other forms of therapy".
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as an anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, colorant, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and for the treatment of flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
In the urgency to discover a new compound for the treatment of pancreatitis, scientists examined the effect of oral curcumin with piperine on the pain and the markers of oxidative stress in patients with tropical pancreatitis (TP).
The experiment included 20 consecutive patients with tropical pancreatitis randomized to receive 500 mg of curcumin with 5 mg of piperine or placebo for 6 weeks.
The pattern of pain, and on red blood cell levels of malonyldialdehyde (MDA), oxidative stress marker and glutathione (GSH), the antioxidant enzymes produced by the patients were assessed before and after at the end of the study.
Compared to the placebo, patients received 500 mg of curcumin with 5 mg of piperine displayed a significant reduction in oxidative stress observed by the erythrocyte MDA and increased GSH levels.
However, injection of 500 mg of curcumin with 5 mg of piperine did not reduce the pain score.
In other words, oral curcumin with piperine reversed lipid peroxidation in patients with tropical pancreatitis by increasing the production of antioxidant enzymes and inhibiting free radical expression.
Based on the findings, researchers suggested before the composite is used for the treatment of tropical pancreatitis, the effect on the pain and other manifestations of tropical pancreatitis must be reassessed.
Taken altogether, turmeric combined with piperine may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of tropical pancreatitis, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Green Tea, The Potent Functional Beverage Inhibits the Pathogens That Cause Pneumonia, Scientists Say
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in reducing the risk and progression and treatment of pneumonia, some scientists suggested.
Pneumonia is a lung infection caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Bacterial pneumonia is the most common type in adults.
Researchers do not know why people with the same health condition, are susceptible to the onset of the disease while others do not.
However, according to the studies, certain groups of people are at a higher prevalent risk, including babies and toddlers, who have an immature immune system, people who have had a recent viral infection and people with chronic lung conditions such as asthma, bronchitis or bronchiectasis.
Additionally, people with suppressed immune systems, excessive alcohol drinking and smoking habit and the elderly are also associated with the increased risk of lung infection.
Most common symptoms include fever and chill caused overexpression of inflammatory cytokines, shortness of breath and increased breathing rate, caused by reduced lung function.
Some patients with pneumonia also have serious symptoms of persistent coughing with phlegm, that does not disappear itself and chest pain.
If you experience some of the above symptoms, you may have pneumonia. Please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.
Green tea is a precious drink processed number of health benefits and known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
In a population-based cohort study, with the follow-up from 1995 to 2006 conducted by Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine using data of participants in National Health Insurance beneficiaries in Japan (19,079 men and 21,493 women aged 40-79 y), researchers wrote at the end of the experiment,
* Over 12 y of follow-up, 406 deaths from pneumonia, according to the reported documents.
* According to the hazard ratios (HRs), injection of green tea demonstrated a significant reduction of death from pneumonia, (<1 cup/d, HRs
Injection of green tea <1 cup/d, with HRs of 1, 1-2 cups/d with HRs of 0.59, 3-4 cups/d, HRs of 0.55 and > or =5 cups/d with Hrs of .53, respectively in women.
Interestingly, in men, green tea injection regardless of volumes display no significant association in the risk of death from pneumonia.
These results suggested that green tea intake daily and regularly may have a strong effect in reducing risk, progression, treatment of lung infection, particularly, in the reduced rate of motility in women.
Furthermore, in the evaluate epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) effect in influenza A virus in the induction of pneumonia in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells of BALB/c mice treated with EGCG (10, 20 or 40 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1), po) for 5 days. and on the 3rd day of the treatment, the mice were infected with influenza A virus., researcher indicated that
* EGCG treatment group exerts a significant inhibition of the expression of influenza A virus in elevating the production of reactive oxygen species.
* EGCG also inhibits the influenza A replication at a concentration-dependent manner (the ED(50) value of 8.71±1.11 nmol/L).
* Importantly, oral administration of green tea EGCG dramatically improves the survival rate, decreases the mean virus yields and mitigates viral pneumonia in the lungs, compared to conventional medicine at oseltamivir (40 mg·kg(-1)·d(-1)).
These results were supported by the investigation to examine, whether green tea by-products could function as an alternative to common antivirals in animals, conducted by the Konkuk University.
According to the experiment, both applications demonstrated a significantly inhibited influenza activity with green tea by-products (EC₅₀ = 6.36 µg/mL) to be equivalent to that of original green tea (EC₅₀= 6.72 µg/mL
In against the H1N1 virus A/NWS/33, the anti-influenza activity of green tea by-products (EC₅₀ = 6.36 µg/mL) is equivalent to that of original green tea (EC₅₀= 6.72 µg/mL).
However, in tested mice, oral administration of green tea by-products reduced viral titers in the lungs in the early phase of infection, but they could not protect these animals from disease and death compared to therapeutic administration of green tea by-products via feed or water supplement on a dose-dependent manner and the rate of motility at dose of 10 g/kg of feed.
These results unsurprisingly suggested that green tea bioactive compounds as a single ingredient consist of a strong effect in reducing the death of pneumonia pathogens compared to the intake of green tea whole foods.
After taking into account other co and confounders, Dr. Lee HJ said, "Unidentified hexane-soluble fractions of green tea by-products possessed strong anti-influenza activity, in addition to ethyl acetate-soluble fractions, including catechins".
Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols catechin may be considered as functional foods in reducing risk, progression and treatment of pneumonia, particularly in the decrease of death ratio.
However, the intake of green tea supplements should be taken with exceptional care as acute liver toxicity has been reported in numbers of the case.

Green Tea, the Beverage May Speeds Up the Healing of Chronic Back Pain
Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect in ameliorated symptoms and treatment of chronic back pain, some scientists suggested.
Chronic back pain is a condition of musculoskeletal disorders(MSDs) of the spine that lasts more than 3 months, caused by various factors, including bone fractures, muscle or ligament injury, arthritis, herniated discs. aging,...
Certain symptoms are associated with patients with chronic back pain, including loss of bowel or bladder control if the condition is on the lower back, numbness, tingling, or weakness in one or both legs and constant pain that gets worse at night.
According to the statistic provided by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare,
* In 2014–15, an estimated 3.7 million Australians (16%, or 1 in 6 people) had chronic back problems.
* The prevalence of the condition increases with age up to before declining slightly in aged 75 and over.
*More than three-quarters (77%) of people with chronic back problems were of working age (15–64), and
* In 2008–09, around 1.8% of total health-care expenditure in Australia ($1.2 billion) was attributed to back problems, causing a significant burden to the economy in the country.
Some researchers in the finding of mutated genes which have strong influence in the onset of chronic back pain suggested, " ...only a minority of the genetic influences was caused by genes affecting disc degeneration suggesting that genes involved in pain perception, signaling, and psychological processing (Foulkes and Wood 2008), and genetic variants of immune genes (Solovieva et al. 2004b) contribute to the proportion of heritability of chronic back pain".
These results indicated that genetic mutation inherited from the parent may have a minor effect in contributing to the early development of the condition.
Green tea is a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
Application of biologically active polyphenol epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) demonstrated a significant effect in reduced back pain through facilitating the anti-inflammatory and anti-catabolic activity in patients with intervertebral disc (IVD) disease due to age-related changes in the adult disc in the induction of back pain.
According to the study by the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), ETH Zurich ingestion of green tea EGCG on back pain patients, human IVD cells isolated from patients undergoing surgery due to degenerative disc disease (n = 34) and cultured in 2D or 3D indicated that the phytochemical inhibited levels of inflammatory response activated by IL-1β, a cytokine protein produced by macrophages, with function in contributing the inflammatory pain hypersensitivity in the site of infection observed by the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), western blotting, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), immunofluorescence and transcription factor assay.
Furthermore, the application also displayed a strong effect on reducing expression of
p38 mitogen-activated protein kinases in mediated inflammatory factors of IL-1β in responded to stress stimuli.
Also, according to the Institute for Biomechanics (D-HEST), in the investigation of the analgesic properties of EGCG, by the von Frey filament test in Sprague-Dawley rats (n = 60), green tea EGCG injection also significantly inhibited the expression of pro-inflammatory mediators as expressed in above and reduced matrix metalloproteinases which have been found to associate to pro-inflammatory cytokines, chemokines and other proteins to regulate varied aspects of inflammation and immunity.
Moreover, in the radiculopathy pain component, researchers also indicated that EGCG inhibited the inflammation in the precipitated back pain through modulating the activity of IRAK-1 in glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle and p38, c-Jun N-terminal kinases (JNK) and nuclear factor NF-κB in response to stress stimuli.
Some researchers indicated that back pain may also be induced by muscle degeneration and impairment nerve injury, leading to increased levels of reactive oxygen species in the induction of tissue apoptosis.
In crushing of the sciatic nerve induced back pain in a tested animal, application of green tea EGCG improved motor function in the toe spread and foot positioning and gained in the percentage motor deficit.
More importantly, EGCG expressed a significant effect on the recovery of sensory innervation in neuropathic pain-like syndrome and improved muscle tissues from injured limb with severe histopathological alterations at the end of week 3 post-surgery in treated animals.
According to the RT-PCR assay, EGCG treatment also normalized the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, the abnormal ratio of the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio has been found to associate with the induction of nerve cell apoptosis as well as inhibiting levels of p53 with function in regulated the cell death cycle at days 3 and 7 post-surgery.
These results demonstrated an important effect of green tea EGCG in the enhanced functional recovery, by protecting muscle fibers from cellular death, and improving morphological recovery in the skeletal muscle after nerve injuries.
However, in the study of caffeine activity in the modulation of pain perception in chronic pain states of 131 patients with chronic low back pain (64 men and 67 women; mean age = 42.1 years; mean duration of pain = 6.1 years) referred to a multidisciplinary pain clinic over a 2-year period, researchers found that caffeine is not related to the global experience of pain and disability in patients with chronic low back pain, although high caffeine use may be embedded in the context of other unhealthy lifestyle behaviors.
Taken all together, green tea and its bioactive component epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG) may be considered functional foods in reduced back pain caused by physical damage of the spine and injured nerve cells.
Intake of green tea supplement should be taken with exceptional care as some cases of liver acute toxicity have been reported in the medical literature.

Navy Bean Inhibits the Onset and Progression of Diseases Associated with Acute-Inflammation in Vivo
Inflammation is a natural response by the immune system to protect the body against the invasion of stimuli or foreign pathogens.
Acute inflammation is a short-term condition caused by tissue injury, leading to pain, redness, swelling, and heat to the affected area. depending on the size of the injury. Some patients with acute inflammation may also experience the symptom of loss of function.
In acute inflammation, the white blood cells on the first line of defense of the immune system after sensing the danger of an infection in the body through a message from the brain stimulate the production of platelets to cover the site of injury or damage and inflammatory cytokines to kill off all pathogens before they can cause harm to the body.
Most cases of infection are stopped at the acute phase. The wound or injury is slowly recovered.
However, people with the weakened immune system, acute inflammatory progression cannot be stopped due to the inability of the immune system to destroy all invaders, which may lead to low-grade chronic inflammation.
Anti-inflammation is the process that inhibits inflammation or swelling without affecting the immune property to curb foreign pathogens.
Conventionally, the most common use of anti-inflammatory medicines is over counter aspirin, ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Nuprin) and other prescription NSAIDs.
Holistically, according to the Medical University Innsbruck, the top 5 anti-inflammatory foods are
* Garlic
Recent studies also showed that garlic exhibits its anti-inflammatory effects against chronic inflammatory disease through phytochemical allicin and other mechanisms.
* Ginger
Strong evidence in Western studies suggested that ginger processes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-modulatory effects.
* Turmeric
Epidemiological studies also found that the efficacy of turmeric for the treatment of diabetes, microbial infection gastrointestinal diseases and irregular cell growth such as cancer through its anti-inflammatory antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities.
* Green tea
Epidemiological studies suggested that green tea consists of many pharmaceutical properties, including anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, anti-allergy, anti-micro-organisms infection, through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory activities.
* Shiitake mushrooms
Recent studies showed that Shiitake mushrooms process the properties of anti-cancer, anti-HIV and hepatitis virus, an enhanced immune system against inflammation.
The small, white navy bean, also called pea bean or haricot, popular in both dry and green forms, is very popular in Britain and the US, native to Peru. It is now grown and consumed across the world, due to its numerous health benefits.
With an aim to find a potential ingredient for diseases associated with acute inflammation, researchers examined the enriched levels of nondigestible fermentable carbohydrates and phenolic compounds found in black and navy beans immunomodulatory effects on severity of colitis-associated inflammatory pathology.
In an animal model, C57Bl/6 mice were pre-fed isocaloric 20% cooked navy bean (NB) or black bean (BB) diets for 3 weeks and switched to control basal diet (BD) 24 h prior to colitis induction via 5-day exposure to dextran sodium sulfate (2% w/v in drinking water)+3 days of fresh water, researchers found that* The severity of the acute colitis phenotype associated with inflammation was inhibited by bean prefeeding, observed by reduced colon tissue inflammatory transcription factor activation such as NFκB, STAT3) and inflammatory mediator levels such as IL-1β, IL-6, IL-18 and MCP-1 compared to control.
* Black and navy beans also stimulated the biomarkers that enhance wound repair responses. including colon tissue protein levels of IL-22, IL-27.
* Furthermore, black and navy beans diet also increases the mRNA expressions of genes involved in the normal colonic epithelial function and the promotion of epithelial barrier integrity, defense and/or restitution and wound closure in acute colonic inflammation.
Based on the findings, researchers concluded, " bean supplementation prior to colitis induction (i.e., mimicking disease relapse) primes the colonic microenvironment to attenuate the severity of the colitis inflammatory phenotype and maintain aspects of epithelial barrier function".
Taken altogether, navy bean may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of acute inflammation, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Holistically, according to the Medical University Innsbruck, the top 5 anti-inflammatory foods are
* Garlic
Recent studies also showed that garlic exhibits its anti-inflammatory effects against chronic inflammatory disease through phytochemical allicin and other mechanisms.
* Ginger
Strong evidence in Western studies suggested that ginger processes anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and immune-modulatory effects.
* Turmeric
Epidemiological studies also found that the efficacy of turmeric for the treatment of diabetes, microbial infection gastrointestinal diseases and irregular cell growth such as cancer through its anti-inflammatory antioxidant and immunomodulatory activities.
* Green tea
Epidemiological studies suggested that green tea consists of many pharmaceutical properties, including anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, anti-allergy, anti-micro-organisms infection, through its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immune-modulatory activities.
* Shiitake mushrooms
Recent studies showed that Shiitake mushrooms process the properties of anti-cancer, anti-HIV and hepatitis virus, an enhanced immune system against inflammation.
