Herbal cayenne Normalizes the Levels of High Blood Cholesterol with No Side Effects, According to Studies

Herbal Cayenne processed a high amount of bioactive compound capsaicinoids that may have a strong and potential effect in reducing levels of high blood cholesterol, according to studies.

Capsaicinoids reduced plasma total cholesterol, non-high-density lipoprotein, and triacylglycerols without affecting the levels of high-density lipoprotein.

Dietary capsaicinoids increased the fecal excretion of total acidic sterols possibly associated with an enzyme which oxidizes cholesterol and inhibited the liver X receptor alpha which was found to raised HDL-cholesterol and increased liver triglycerides in a wild-type mice study.

Furthermore, capsaicinoids not only decreased cholesterol absorption but also improved the levels of expression of COX-2 associated with the accumulation of lipids in circulation and liver, and lipid peroxidation in case of deficiency.

Dr. Liang YT, the lead scientist, after taking into account co and confounders wrote, "Capsaicinoids were beneficial in improving lipoprotein profile and aortic function in hamsters fed a high-cholesterol diet".

Moreover, in female ovariectomized Sprague-Dawley rats, the sham group and OVX control group were fed with high-cholesterol diets, whereas the treatment group (control diet containing 0.01% capsaicinoids) was fed with high-cholesterol plus 0.01% capsaicinoids diet for 21 days.

Injection of capsaicinoids significantly decreased the body weight gain, plasma total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triacylglycerol without affecting the high-density lipoprotein cholesterol in the OVX rats.
These changes in plasma lipoprotein profile were accompanied by a greater excretion of total bile acid in feces and small intestinal contents.

The efficacy of the compound in the inhibition of high blood cholesterol was attributed to the significantly enhanced the expressions of hepatic cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase, an enzyme and receptor potential vanilloid type-1 associated with cholesterol oxidation.

Dr. Zhang L, the lead researchers wrote in the final report, "The hypocholesterolemic activity of capsaicinoids is caused by the stimulating conversion of cholesterol to bile acids by upregulation of cholesterol 7α-hydroxylase expression and the increase in fecal total bile acid excretion".

Taken altogether, herbal cayenne processed major bioactive ingredient capsaicinoids may be considered a function fruit for the prevention and treatment of high blood cholesterol, pending to the

Chaste Tree Berry in Reduced Risk and Treatment of Colon Cancer

Vitex agnus-castus fruit is found to process an anti irregular cell growth, the early stage of cancer development in colon, a university study suggested.

Herbal Chamomile in the Prevention and Treatment of Anxiety Disorders

Herbal Chamomile may have a potential effect in reducing the risk and treatment of anxiety disorder, according to studies.

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental illnesses characterized by symptoms of excessive anxiety, fear, worry, avoidance, and compulsive rituals. The condition is more commonly in women than in men.

Some researchers suggested that anxiety disorders are conditions associated with the combination of biological, psychological, and individual factors and the most commonly reported psychiatric conditions and frequently occur as comorbid disorders.

According to the statistic, anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the age of 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

The exact causes of anxiety disorders are debatable. However, a family history of anxiety recent or prolonged exposure to stress, excessive consumption of stimulants such as caffeine or tobacco is associated with the onset of the disorders.

The symptoms of anxiety disorders can be psychological or physical, including difficulty concentrating and sleeping, irritability, persistent stomachaches or diarrhea, sweaty palms, shaking and rapid heartbeat.

The University of Ottawa study on the effects of Matricaria recutita (German chamomile) and Humulus lupulus (hops) showed significant activity in the inhibition of GAD at doses of 0.11-0.65 mg/mL(2).

The study containing 57 participants in the 2009 trial, 19 had anxiety with comorbid depression; 16 had anxiety with a past history of depression, and 22 had anxiety with no current or past depression, chamomile showed a clinically meaningful antidepressant activity to its previously observed anxiolytic activity(3).

Apigenin, a component of Matricaria recutita flowers, in mice study, exerted its anxiolytic and slight sedative effects through the central benzodiazepine receptors(4).

Researchers at the University Science Center on finding a treatment of anxiety disorder examined the effects of chamomile extract therapy in patients with mild to moderate generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) on a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled efficacy and tolerability trial.

In a total of 63 outpatients with mild to moderate GAD enrolled, 57 were randomized to either double-blind chamomile extract (n = 28) or placebo therapy (n = 29) for 8 weeks.

The chamomile treated group exerted a significantly greater reduction in mean total HAM-A score compared to the placebo.

Furthermore, besides the better primary outcomes, the chamomile group also demonstrated a positive change in all secondary outcomes in the reduction of anxiety symptoms.



Mild and tolerated adverse events or more were not significantly different between groups.

These results strongly suggested that the failure of the interaction of members in the GAGA system caused by dysfunction was attributed to the onset of anxiety disorders.

Chaste Tree Berry Reduced Symptoms of Pain in Severe Primary Dysmenorrhea

Chaste tree berry may have a potential effect in ameliorated the symptoms of severe uterine pain in women with primary dysmenorrhea.

Dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation) is a condition of severe uterine pain during menstruation. Some women may experience periodic pains during or prior to, or after menstrual periods in the lower abdomen as resulting of overproduction of certain hormones in the prostaglandins family

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of years as an aphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

According to the Nenehatun Hospital, In animal models, Chaste tree berry treatment significantly reduced symptoms of severe primary dysmenorrhea in the end of the third month of therapy.


In a total of 60 women with severe primary dysmenorrhea and 30 healthy women (control) included in this study. 30 patients treated with Ethinyl estradiol 0.03 mg/drospirenone (group 1) and another 30 treated with Fructus agni casti (group 2) during three menstrual cycles using the visual analog scale (VAS) scores, pulsatility index (PI), herbal plant treated group showed a higher mean PI and RI values in patients with severe primary dysmenorrhea in compared control groups on the first day of the first menstrual cycle (P < 0.0001) but the means of both values were significantly lower after the treatment in both groups compared to before values (P < 0.001 for both),

Additionally, researchers also found an increased uterine blood flow but no significant differences in terms of Doppler findings between groups 1 and 2, as women with severe symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea exhibited normally a high impedance to blood flow in uterine arteries with a preserved cyclic pattern throughout the whole cycle.

Dr. Aksoy AN, the lead author in the study said, "The effectiveness of Fructus agni casti was similar to that of ethinyl estradiol/drospirenone in patients with primary dysmenorrhea"

Other researchers also insisted that the efficacy of Chaste tree berry in reduced pain may be associated with the antinociceptive and analgesic activities, according to the petroleum ether fraction (PEF) from the aqueous ethanol extract of Vitex negundo Linn. (Verbenaceae) seeds injection into mice study conducted by the Second Military Medical University.
