Ginger, the Potential Remedy for the Prevention and Treatment of Atherosclerosis with No Side Effects

Ginger may have a potential and profound effect in blocking the accumulation of plaques on the arterial wall in initiating the risk of atherosclerosis, some scientists suggested.

Atherosclerosis is a medical condition associated with plaque building up in the arteries, leading to the narrowing of the arterial function in the transportation of oxygenated blood to the heart and other blood of the body.

Plaques are substances made up of the accumulated fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood, including cadmium.

Long-term accumulation of plaque can also cause hardening and stiffing arterial walls can lead to the blockage of the arteries and risk of heart disease depending on the location of the blockage.

Most people in the early stage of atherosclerosis do not experience any symptoms. However, as the condition progresses and the location affected, patients may develop chest pain, shortness of breath, sweating, and anxiety.

The most common causes of atherosclerosis are the imbalance of the ratio of bad cholesterol and good cholesterol in the blood, long-term smoking, obesity, an increase in age, obesity and some medical conditions, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.

Therefore adding a portion of olive oil into your daily diet can reduce the risk of high blood cholesterol

Dr. Siasos G, the lead scientists in the heart disease team in the concerns of the smoking detrimental effect to many organ systems and is responsible for illnesses such as lung cancer, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease said, " smoking is an important modifiable risk factor for the development of cardiovascular disease,....via initiation and progression of atherosclerosis".

And, "A variety of studies has proved that cigarette smoking induces oxidative stress, vascular inflammation, platelet coagulation, vascular dysfunction and impairs serum lipid profile in both current and chronic smokers, active and passive smokers and results in detrimental effects on the cardiovascular system".

The statement clearly indicated that cigarette smoking has a strong implication of the onset and progression of atherosclerosis.

Some researchers suggested that cigarette smoke contain a high amount of toxic chemicals that cause inflammation and formation of a blood clot in the arteries and oxidation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

On finding a natural ingredient or whole food for the prevention and treatment, researchers at the joint study led by the University of Sistan and Baluchestan examined the potential protective effects of ginger in atherosclerosis and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The randomized, experimental, and controlled study included thirty healthy overweight women aged 20-30 years randomly divided into three equal groups, namely, ginger, ginger + high-intensity interval training (HIIT), and placebo + HIIT.

The training groups performed high-intensity interval exercises (i.e. 40-m maximal shuttle run) for ten consecutive weeks. The supplement groups daily took 3 g of ginger pills and the third group took the placebo.

The paired t-test revealed a significant decrease in the density of type 1 monocytes chemotactic protein (MCP-1) in HIIT + ginger (P = 0.026) and HIIT + placebo (P = 0.001) groups, an indication of reduced inflammation.

These results suggested that the relative and efficient role of HIIT combined with the ginger supplement in overweight women in inducing antioxidant/anti-inflammatory activity against atherosclerosis.

Furthermore, the investigation of the effects of air-dried ginger powder (0.1g/kg body weight, po, for 75 days) was carried out by the RNT Medical College, on experimentally induced atherosclerosis in rabbits by cholesterol feeding (0.3g/kg body weight, po).

Before the administration of ginger powder, cholesterol feeding for 75 days led to the distinct development of atheroma in the aorta and coronary arteries of the rabbits.

The accumulation of plaque in the arteries was significantly inhibited by about 50% following ginger administration.

Moreover, the ginger treatment also decreases lipid peroxidation and enhanced fibrinolytic activity associated to dissolve blood clots.

The findings indicated that ginger distinct protection from the development of atherosclerosis is attributed probably because of its free radical scavengings, prostaglandin inhibitory and fibri
properties.

Taken altogether, ginger may be considered a functional food for the prevention and adjunct therapy for the treatment of atherosclerosis without inducing any adverse effects.

Herbal Bilberry In the Prevention and Treatment of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD

Cardiovascular disease is a general term of diseases associated with the blood vessels and heart, including coronary artery diseases (CAD) affected by obstruction of arteries and stroke-affected by the capillaries in the brain.

In other words, the disease in CVD is vary depending on the affected locations. Atherosclerosis is also the most common cause of cardiovascular disease.

The exact causes of CVD are not clear. However, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes mellitus, lack of exercise, obesity, high blood cholesterol, poor diet, and excessive alcohol consumption, are found to associated with the increased risk of CVD.

According to the statistics provided by the American Heart Association, over 84 million people in the US suffer from some forms of cardiovascular disease, causing the death of 2,200 people a day.

Sadly, approximately 15 million U.S. adults have coronary heart disease.

Out of many risk factors, some researchers suggested that high blood pressure found in 103 million U.S. adults are one of the major cause of CVD. Believe it or not, approximately 54% of strokes and 47% of coronary heart diseases, worldwide, are attributable to high blood pressure.

Dr. Chen-Yi Wu, the lead scientist said, "The cardiovascular and expanded-cardiovascular mortality risks were lowest when systolic blood pressures were 120 to 129 mm Hg, and increased significantly when systolic blood pressures (SBPs) were ≥160 mm Hg or diastolic BPs were ≥90 mm Hg".

And, " The impacts of stage 2–3 hypertension on mortality risks were significantly increased among women. The mortality risks of hypertension were not attenuated with older age".

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer,

In the urgency to find a natural ingredient for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), a leading cause of death researchers examined the bilberry's beneficial effects on CVD risk reduction.

The study included women (n=25) and men (n=11) who consumed 150 g of frozen stored bilberries 3 times a week for 6 weeks.

According to the tested assays, consumption of bilberries showed a decrease of total cholesterol, LDL-C, TG, glucose, albumin, γ-glutamyltransferase, and a positive increase in HDL-C.

All parameters associated with the risk of CVD were decreased substantially at the end of the study. In other words, bilberry reduced the risk of CVD by promoting the blood flow to the heart and other parts of the body.

Interestingly, in men, favorable changes were observed in total cholesterol, glucose, albumin, aspartate aminotransferase, γ-glutamyltransferase, and HDL-C compared to women.

The results strongly support the regular use of bilberries as a dietary source of fruit to reduce the CVDs risk, by decreasing LDL-C/TG and increasing HDL-C.

Dr. Habanova M, after taking into account co and confound wrote in the final report, "Changes in other parameters were not significant, for both women and men. Thus, the regular intake of bilberries can be important to reduce CVDs risk, by decreasing LDL-C/TG and increasing HDL-C".

Taken altogether, bilberry may be considered a functioning remedy for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases (CVD), pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Anise In the Expression of Depressant-like Activity

Anise may have a potential and substantial effect in reduced risk and treatment of depression, some scientists suggested.

Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belonging to the family Apiaceae native to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as a fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, anti-septic, anti-spasmodic,...

Chemical constituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

Depression is a condition of a mood disorder. affecting the patient's feelings, think, and handle daily activities.

According to the statistic of The National Institute of Mental Health, approximately, 16 million adults had at least one major depressive episode in 2012 in the United States, 6.9 percent of the population.

In the evaluation of the herbal Anise aqueous and ethanol extracts antidepressant-like effect in mice with several different doses of 50, 100 and 200 mg/kg in compared to the standard medicine Fluoxetine at dose of 30mg/kg and imipramine at dose of 20mg/kg, researchers at the joint study lead by the Azad University showed that except for the dose at 50mg/kg of aqueous extract, application of other doses demonstrated a linearly significant improvement of mobility times.

Further analysis also found that all doses from Anise extract increased the swimming time dose-dependently, without any significant change in climbing time in tested mice similar to those of Fluoxetine and compared to aqueous extract.

Moreover, Fluoxetine and imipramine expressed a strong decreased immobility time in both tests in contrast to imipramine increased climbing time without any significant change in swimming time.

The result suggested that both extracts in a dose higher than 50mg/kg display antidepressant-like activity similar to that of fluoxetine through improved mobility of depressed mice as inactivity is considered as one of the major symptoms in patients with depression.

As the depression progressed, patients demonstrated behavior in making efforts to escape from society, eventually will exhibit immobility with the reflection of psychological despair.

Dr. Shahamat Z the lead author said, " P. anisum possesses an antidepressant-like activity similar to that of fluoxetine, which has a potential clinical value for application in the management of depression".

Additionally, in the testing essential (volatile) oil and essential oil of Piper laetispicum antidepressant activity in compared to Fluoxetine as standard antidepressant drug and other natural remedies including Leaves-Bay, Curry, Coriander and Mint; Fruits-Star anise, Pepper, Cardamom, Caraway and Fennel; Seeds of Fenugreek, Mustard, Nutmeg and Black Cumin; and Underground stem-Onion, Garlic, Ginger and Turmeric; Miscellaneous-Clove, Cinnamon, Capsicum, Tamarind and Asafoetida, researchers found that all participated essential oil, especially anise produced a significant reduction in immobility along with an increase in climbing behavior similar to those of fluoxetine.

The application of essential oil caused a dose-dependent reduction( probably in a dose less than 50 mg/kg) in immobility which is contracted to the above study and an increase in climbing at all studied doses in comparison to the control group.

However, the test may not take into effect in real-life patients who need to be treated for at least several weeks before they experience any relief from the expression of symptoms.

Furthermore, in the examine of the efficacy of anise oil, in removing the symptoms of mild to moderate depression in patients with irritable bowel syndrome of a total of 120 randomly assigned into 3 equal groups received anise oil, Colpermin, and placebo, at the end of the study, scientists showed that application of anise group exerted a continuous improvement of the syndrome in compared to the other 2 groups with some unknown mechanisms.
Some researchers postulated that essential oil smell may have a profound effect on the brain in triggering an emotional reaction in stimulating the limbic system in regulated autonomic and endocrine function, particularly, in response to emotional stimuli in an expression of motivation and reinforcing behaviors.

Additionally, the application of essential oil scent also has a direct influence in calming the central nervous system in ameliorated overproduction of certain hormones in reacted to unfavorably emotional behaviors.

Taken together, Anise essential oil may be used as a secondary therapy to standard medicine in the treatment of depression.

Healthy Food Cranberry, the Best in the Promotion of Oral Health

Gingivitis or gingival inflammation is one of the most common conditions of oral inflammation of the gum caused by overexpression of plaques accumulated on your teeth that irritate the gingiva. Over time, the gum of an infected person has become swollen and bleed easily.

In severe cases, the condition can lead to periodontal disease, inducing tooth decay or loss of the tooth.

Most of the cases of gingivitis are associated with poor hygiene, particularly in people who smoke.
Gingivitis can be reversed by following a good oral health habit, including brushing at least twice a day, flossing daily and getting regular dental checkups.

Other causes of the oral problem are poor diet and hygiene, trauma, stress, alcohol use, and use of illegal substances.

However, chronic diseases also are found to induce poor oral health, including diabetes.

Most common symptoms of gingivitis including swollen gums with dusky red or dark red color and bleeding easily when brush or floss, particularly breath-breath.

According to the statistics provided by the CDC, smoking is an important cause of severe gum disease in the US.

Some researchers suggested that long-term oral infection can place the patients at risk of certain chronic diseases.

Dr. Xiaojing Li, and colleagues wrote, "Recently, it has been recognized that oral infection, especially periodontitis, may affect the course and pathogenesis of a number of systemic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes mellitus, and low birth weight".

And, "Periodontitis as a major oral infection may affect the host's susceptibility to systemic disease in three ways: by shared risk factors; subgingival biofilms acting as reservoirs of gram-negative bacteria; and the periodontium acting as a reservoir of inflammatory mediators".

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of oral disease, researchers examined the effect of cranberry extracts on oral health, including dental caries and protection against periodontitis.

Cranberry fraction enriched in high molecular weight polyphenols from the A non-dialysable extract showed to inhibit cariogenic and periodontal pathogenic bacteria.

Diseases associated with oral inflammatory response and enzymes that degrade the extracellular matrix was also reduced upon the application of cranberry fraction.

Furthermore, according to tested differentiation, Cranberry components found in the extract also inhibited acid production, attachment, and biofilm formation by Streptococcus mutans.

Glucan-binding proteins associated with dental caries pathogen, extracellular enzymes secreted by the cell involved in a bacterial trait, and bacterial hydrophobicity were also affected by cranberry components.

In periodontal diseases, the cranberry fraction also exerted similarly aforementioned effects such as the host inflammatory responses, production, and activity of enzymes.

The findings strongly suggested that cranberry components found in cranberry worked synergistically, for the prevention and/or treatment of oral diseases, particularly in those of high molecular weight bioactive molecules.

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the promotion of oral health, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

The Best of Perennially Herbal Fennel In Ameliorated Risk, Progression and Treatment of Prostate cancer

Fennel may have potential and positive effect in reduced risk, progression and treatment of prostate cancer, some scientist suggested.

Prostate caner is a chronic condition characterized by abnormal growth of prostate tissue. At he later stage, the cancerous cells may travel a distance away to infect other healthy cells and tissues.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In the study to investigate the effect of 5 herbal medicine in different quantity in some different formulas represented by FB, FM, PP, HF and FBL101 in risk of prostate cancer, including licorice, black cohosh, Dong Quai, false unicorn and vitex berry root extracts, fennel seed extract, researchers at the National Institute of Health found that FB, FM, PP, HF and FBL101 inhibited PC3 tumor growth by 53%, 75%, 80%, 81% and 87%, respectively.

In an androgen-independent human prostate cancer cell line CWR22R, all 5 formulas also inhibited the cancer cell proliferation without alternating levels of testosterone.

However, the administration of formula PP and FBL101 showed a significantly reduced VEGF level with function in the stimulated formation of new blood vessels in initiated proliferation in PC3 and CWR22R tumors.

Furthermore, intratumoral microvessel density measurement in the expression of tumor growth with aggressive tumor behavior was decreased in PC3 tumors treated with all five supplements but only in CWR22R tumors treated with HF.

Dr. Ng SS, after taking into account other cofounders said, "herbal supplements containing the aforementioned extracts inhibit the growth of prostate tumor xenografts, possibly in part by antiangiogenic mechanisms".

These results demonstrated that fennel extract and other herbal components may be considered as preventive and therapeutic agents for the treatment of prostate cancer without indicating the efficacy of the individual herb.

The above differentiation was supported by the study of the Alexandria University in the evaluation of anethole, a major constituent of Foeniculum vulgare (fennel) essential oil, a widely used folk medicine for the treatment of prostate cancer.

According to the experiment, application of the bioactive compound anethole exerted a strong activity against proliferation, clonal growth, and migration of PC-3 cells, through the generation of ROS in the induction of cytotoxicity through damage to the DNA of the cancer cells.

Additional analysis of the efficacy, the application also stimulated the penetration of essential oil anethole in permeabilization of the mitochondrial and lysosomal membranes of PC3 cancer cells in the induction of cancer cells death, executed by caspase-3 and -9 pathways and PARP cleavage in the induction of apoptosis.

Interestingly, injection of anethole isolated from fennel essential oil also induced elevation of Bax/Bcl-2 protein ratio, in initiated the onset of prostate cancer cell death through cell cycle arrest.

Further observation of anethole action, researchers found that anethole inhibited prostate cancer cells through cell cycle arrest in G2/M phase ameliorated by levels of cyclins D1, CDK-4 and c-Myc proteins in promoted cancer cell cycle progression and enhanced production of levels p21 and p27 in exhibited tumor suppressible activity.

Finally, anethole also suppressed NF-κB protein in activated production of TNF-α in the induction of anti-apoptosis in prostate cancer cells.

Taken together, the findings strongly suggested that long term intake of fennel and its bioactive anethole may have substantial implications in the prevention and treatment of prostate cancer. But intake of fennel supplement should be taken with care to prevent acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Butterbur, The Best in the Promotion of Antioxidant Activity

Herbal Butterbur may be the potential target to extract a single ingredient for the treatment of oxidative stress, some scientists suggested.

Oxidative stress is either caused by overexpression free radicals compared to levels of antioxidant or suppression of the levels of antioxidant enzymes in the host body, compared to the expression of free radicals.

The imbalanced ratio of free radical and antioxidant enzymes produced by the host that counter the overexpression of free radicals has been found to facilitate the early onset of numbers of chronic ailments, such as cancers.

Free radicals are naturally produced from daily normal essential metabolic processes in the human body. However, some external sources such as exposure to X-rays, ozone, cigarette smoking, air pollutants, and industrial chemicals can also increase the expression of free radicals in the body.

Free radicals are unstable molecules with the unpaired electron in the outer ring and ready to donate or steal an electron from another molecule, leading to the chain reaction until they are stopped by the presence of the antioxidants or their outer ring are paired.

Overexpression of free radical chain reactive in the human body has been known to induce oxidative stress, causing damage to the cells, proteins, and alternation of cell DNA. In this case, the application of an external source of antioxidants such as synthetic antioxidants such as butylated hydroxytoluene and butylated hydroxyanisole may be helpful to restore the balance of these 2 types of molecule.

Hydroxyl radical, superoxide anion radical, hydrogen peroxide, oxygen singlet, hypochlorite, nitric oxide radical, and peroxynitrite radicals are hight reactive and important free radical associated with many chronic diseases.

Dr. V. Lobo, in the concern of the overexpression of free radicals in the induction of, vary human chronic illness conducted a study to examine the impacts of free radicals, antioxidants and functional foods in human health said in summary, "Free radicals damage contributes to the etiology of many chronic health problems such as cardiovascular and inflammatory disease, cataract, and cancer. Antioxidants prevent free radical-induced tissue damage by preventing the formation of radicals, scavenging them, or by promoting their decomposition".

(More importantly)" Synthetic antioxidants are recently reported to be dangerous to human health. Thus the search for effective, nontoxic natural compounds with antioxidative activity has been intensified in recent years. In addition to endogenous antioxidant defense systems, consumption of dietary and plant-derived antioxidants appears to be a suitable alternative. Dietary and other components of plants form a major source of antioxidants".

Butterbur, found in wet, marshy, damp land, including wetland, Riverside, forest, etc., is a creeping underground plant, genus Petasites of 15 -20 species, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Northern Hemisphere.

The herbal plant has been used in traditional medicine as a pain reliever in the digestive system, including stomach, bile ducts, and duodenum, etc.

The chemical constituents of Butterbur include Petioles, petasitene, and ethylene, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-6''-O-acetylglucoside, and rutin, caffeic acid, alkaloids, S-petasin and iso-S-petasin, etc.

In the finding the natural ingredient from the botanical plants which process a significant antioxidant activity without inducing any side effects, researchers at the Second Military Medical University looked into a bioactive compound isolated from the herbal Butterbur.

Four novel bakkenolides - bakkenolide-Ia ( 1), bakkenolide-IIa ( 2), bakkenolide-IIIa ( 3) and bakkenolide-IVa ( 4) - were isolated from the extract of the rhizome of Petasites tricholobus.

All 4 compounds demonstrated the neuroprotective activity by reversing the neuron's damage exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation and oxidative insults.

The results of this efficacy were associated with the antioxidant properties of the 4 compounds in inhibiting the oxidative stress caused by the oxygen-glucose deprivation.

The finding indicated that herbal Butterbur not only processed a significant activity in protecting the brain cells against oxidative stress due to overexpression of free radical but also promoted the production of antioxidant enzymes in the host tissue.

In hyphenated HPLC techniques used to identify the structures and antioxidant activities without prior purification of compounds, researchers found that herbal Butterbur process a number of bioactive compounds, including 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA), fukinolic acid (FA), 3,5-di-O-caffeoylquinic acid (3,5-DCQA) exert a strong antioxidant free radical scavenging activity.

The greatest radical scavenging capacity was found in the leaf (23.09% of total antioxidant capacity) and root (26.47%) extracts.

The relative radical scavenging portion of quercetin-3-O-(6″-acetyl)-β-glucopyranoside (QAG) was only 3.41% in the leaves and KAG did not show any radical scavenging activity.

These results firmly suggested that herbal Butterbur processes a significant antioxidant property. However, a single ingredient isolated from the herb may express different levels of antioxidants in a dose-depending manner.

Therefore, herbal Butterbur containing a high amount of antioxidants and bioactive compounds free radical scavengers may be considered a functional food for the promotion of the antioxidant activity.

Healthy Food Cranberry, the Natural Antioxidant

Free radicals are unstable molecules with unpaired electrons in the outermost ring produced daily internally including cell metabolism and externally including the air we breathe and the food we eat.

Reactive oxygen species and reactive nitrogen without being controlled by antioxidant can induce a domino's effect by stealing an electron from other molecules, leading to a continued reaction that cannot stop until all single electrons are paired or inhibited by the presence of antioxidant molecules.

Antioxidants are stable atoms produced either by the host body or intake of dietary antioxidant-rich food.

In this cascade, free radicals overexpression induces oxidative stress. A major cause of protein, lipid and cell damage increase risk of the early onset of many chronic diseases.

In other words, oxidative stress is an imbalanced ratio of free radicals and antioxidants.

Most common diseases or syndromes associated with the onset of oxidative stress are
* Aging, is a process characterized by the progressive loss of tissue and organ function due to the accumulation of RONS-induced damages.

* Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are diseases associated with involving the heart or blood vessels, including heart disease, and stroke.

* Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a class of lung disease including chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Most cases of COPD are caused by smoking.

* Chronic kidney disease is a medical condition that causes the gradual loss of kidney function kidney affecting filter wastes and excess fluids from the blood.

* Neurodegenerative diseases is the progressive loss of structure or function of neurons, including dementia.
* Cancer is the class of diseases caused by irregular cell growth due to the alternation of cell DNA

There are many risk factors that can increase the overexpression of free radicals, including fried foods, alcohol, tobacco smoke, pesticides, air pollutants.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of disease associated with oxidative stress, researchers examined the effect of cranberry products and especially cranberry juice (CJ) antioxidant activity.

According to the tested analysis on the products, the order of the number of total polyphenols that exert antioxidant activity in cranberry foods on a fresh weight basis is dried > frozen > sauce > jellied sauce.in the deceased order.

Furthermore, in the comparison of the effect of the consumption of high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) and ascorbate with CJ antioxidants or without CJ (control) given to 10 normal individuals after an overnight fast, by recording the plasma antioxidant capacity, glucose, triglycerides, and ascorbate measured 6 times over 7 h after the consumption of a single 240 mL serving of the two different beverages, researchers found that* HFCS caused a slight decrease in plasma antioxidant capacity at all time points and thus inducing oxidative stress with or without ascorbate

*CJ produced an increase in plasma antioxidant capacity at all time points, particularly compared to
HFCS.

Furthermore, postprandial triglycerides induced oxidative stress caused by HFCS were associated with the oxidative stress in HFCS treated group.

Based on the findings, researchers said, " Cranberries are an excellent source of high-quality antioxidants and should be examined in human supplementation studies".

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with oxidative stress, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
