Majority of Women Chose Cinnamon Over Acetaminophen in Relieved Menstrual Pain and Heavy Menstrual Bleeding, According PubMed

Topical use of essential oil extracted from cinnamon may be the next generation whole herb medicine for prevention and treatment of menstrual pain and heavy menstrual bleeding.

The results of the investigation were reported by several respectable institutes and published on the data bases of numbers online medical literature, including PubMed.

According to the Eulji University, in the study of compared the effect of aromatherapy massage and acetaminophen on menstrual pain in Korean high school girls. cinnamon treatment group showed a significantly higher reduction of menstrual pain than in the acetaminophen group.

Acetaminophen or APAP is a over-counter and popular conventional medicine used to treat pain and fever with numbers of intolerant adverse effects.

In a randomized, double-blind trial, out of 114, group received Cinnamon (capsule containing 420 mg Cinnamon, TDS, n= 38) in 24 h significantly reduced the severity and duration of pain during menstruation and menstrual bleeding.

In primary dysmenorrhea, cinnamon expressed significantly over the reduction of pain, menstrual bleeding, nausea, and vomiting with primary dysmenorrhea without side effects.

Dr. Marzouk TM., the lead author at the Mansoura University said, " ... aromatherapy abdominal massage once daily for seven days prior to menstruation using the essential oils (cinnamon....) is effective in alleviating menstrual pain, its duration and excessive menstrual bleeding...." and "Aromatherapy can be provided as a nonpharmacological pain relief measure and as a part of nursing care given to girls suffering from dysmenorrhea, or excessive menstrual bleeding".

Further study of the effect of cinnamon extract on symptoms of dysmenorrhea and contractility in some smooth muscles, Dr. Alotaibi M. suggested, cinnamon may be used to alleviate menstrual pain associated with dysmenorrhoea or prevent unwanted uterine activity in early pregnancy.

However, intake of cinnamon should be taken with care as toxicity was found in the case of overdoses.

Herbal Bilberry, the Natural Treatment for Varicose Veins with No Side Effects

Varicose veins are the medical condition in which the superficial veins have become enlarged and twisted.

The condition has been found to induce bleeding or superficial thrombophlebitis if left untreated.

The most common causes of varicose veins are found just under the skin in the legs, leading to the symptoms of fullness and pain in the affected location accompanied by symptoms of achy or heavy feeling in the legs. The pain is also worsened after a long time of sitting or standing for a long time and skin discoloration around the area.

Some patients with painful varicose veins also experience symptoms of burning, throbbing, muscle cramping, and swelling in the lower legs and itching.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of varicose veins, aging due to wear and tear on the valves in the veins that help regulate blood flow may be one of the most common risk factors.

Dr. Caggiati A in the study of age-related variations of varicose veins, wrote, "Varicose SVs were more frequent in the older group (62%) than in younger one (39%) owing to a higher prevalence of limbs with combined saphenous veins (SVs) and Stributaries of the SVs (STVs) varicosities (respectively, 59% and 37%)".

And, "varicose disease may progressively extend in an antegrade fashion, spreading from the STVs to the SVs".

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of varicose veins and chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), researchers compared the efficacy of Pycnogenol, venoruton, troxerutin, the complex diosmin-hesperidin, Antistax, Mirtoselect (bilberry), escin, and the combination Venoruton-Pycnogenol (VE-PY) against the therapeutic compressions.

The study included 1,051 patients who completed the registry. During the experiment, there are no safety or tolerability problems observed.

Mirtoselect (bilberry) showed a significant effect on skin flux but to a lesser extent compared to those of Venoruton, Pycnogenol, and the combination VE-PY.

The edema score was decreased more effectively with the combination and with Pycnogenol compared to the other treatment group including the Mirtoselect (bilberry).

According to the improvement in symptoms score, Pycnogenol and compression showed a larger decrease in oxidative stress compared to the Pycnogenol, Venoruton, Mirtoselect (bilberry), and with the VE-PY combination.

However, the efficacy of Pycnogenol and the combination are competitive with stockings that do not have the same tolerability in warmer climates compared to other groups.

The findings suggested that the tested compounds processed anti chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) and varicose veins properties.

Taken altogether, Mirtoselect (bilberry) may be considered a functioning remedy for the treatment of varicose veins with no side effects, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Chaste Tree Berry Anti Estrogenic Activity

Chaste tree berry(Vitex agnus-castus), is found to process anti-estrogenic property in binding the estrogen receptors for a balance between the activities of estrogen receptor ERα or ERβ.

The herb is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belonging to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of years as anaphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

Anti estrogenic effects are an act of binding the estrogen receptor(ERα ) and/ERβ in inhibiting the excessive levels of estrogen circulating in the body.

According to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, in the study of the potential effect of estrogen mimics or anti-estrogens in phytochemicals of popular dietary herbal supplements, researchers found that almost all herbal supplements containing phytochemical components showed a capability in binding to the human estrogen receptor and exhibit selective estrogen receptor modulation, including chaste tree berry.

Casticin, a flavonoid isolated from Vitex rotundifolia, significantly expressed anti estrogenic effect in reduced the prolactin release stimulated by E2 in induced inhibition of ERα mRNA expression in a concentration-dependent manner, through its anti estrogenic effect.
In a hyperprolactinemia (MIHP) induced by administration of metoclopramide dihydrochloride (50 mg/kg, tid, ip, for 10 d) in SD rats, rat treated with casticin (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg, ip, for 7 d) reduced serum prolactin levels by 33.9%, 54.3%, and 64.7% and at(1 and 10 micromol/L) inhibited E2-induced pituitary cell proliferation by 27.7% and 42.1%, respectively through reduced levels of 17β-Estradiol (E2) significantly.

More importantly, oral administration of casticin, a flavonoid isolated from Vitex rotundifolia displayed an anti-estrogenic activity in decrease excessive levels of 17β-Estradiol (E2) significantly

Taking together, Chaste tree berry processes strong estrogenic and anti-estrogenic effects in binding estrogen receptor sites to preserve the balancing of hormone expression of estrogen through ER alpha and ERBeta inhibition and exhibition.

Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale) Processes a Strong Antifungal Activity

Fungal infection is a common disease caused by the overgrowth of fungus.

In other words, the immune system that protects the body against microorganisms has been overwhelming by the overgrowth of fungus.

Yeasts, molds, and mushrooms are types of fungi. The tiny microorganisms have cells with nuclear.

Most common fungal infections start from the lungs or the skin. Long-term use of antibiotics and people with the weakened immune system is susceptible to fungal infection, epidemiologically.

However, some researchers suggested that common risk factors for fungal infection also include pregnancy, diabetes mellitus, oral contraceptives, and inadequate therapy.
People with weakened immune systems such as cancer treatment, frequent use of antibiotics are associated to increase the risk of fungal infection.

Patients with diabetes are also more prone to fungal infections. Fungal infection associated with diabetes includes jock itch, athlete's foot,..... and ringworm.

Depending on the locations of infection, patients may experience symptoms of common peeling, cracking, scaling redness, blisters Itching,......, and burning sensation.

In women, signs of a yeast infection may include itching and swelling around the vagina. burning sensations or pain during urination or intercourse,........, and unusual vaginal discharge.

In men, signs of a yeast infection may include burning and itching around the head of the penis,
redness, and swelling, pain during urination or sex,..... small, rash-like bumps.

Dandelion is a herbaceous perennial plant, genus Taraxacum, belongings to the family Asteraceae, native to temperate regions of the world. It has been used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat gout, eczema, acne, gall bladder, kidney, liver and urinary disorders, hypoglycemia, dyspepsia with constipation, edema, blood pressure, and heart weakness, chronic joint, skin diseases, etc.

On finding a natural ingredient for the prevention and treatment of fungal infectious diseases,
scientists examined the antifungal effects of novel peptide named ToAMP4 isolated from Taraxacum officinale Wigg. flowers by a combination of acetic acid extraction and different types of chromatography.

According to the tested differentiation of the biological activity of ToAMP4 produced in a prokaryotic expression system as a fusion protein with thioredoxin, the peptide ToAMP4 displayed broad-spectrum antifungal activity against phytopathogens.

Moreover, the two ToAMP4 also exerted significantly mediated inhibition properties, on the tested fungus

In other words, ToAMP4 processed anti-fungal infection depending on the types of fungus.

Taken altogether, dandelion may be considered a remedy for the prevention and treatment of fungal infection, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Cinnamon, The Whole Herbal Medicine for Osteopenic Disease

Recent study suggested that cinnamon may be effective in prevented and treatment of osteopenic disease by inhibiting protein in transferred information of cytokine production involved cell survival.

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of the tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae, used in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level, to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, and to treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

The osteopenic disease is the early stage of osteoporosis involved the deletion of bone density in comparison to the healthy person.

According to the Keio University, cinnamon suppressed the osteoclastogenesis, protected bone density against erosion, interleukin-4 (IL-4), an anti-inflammatory cytokine, involved the production of white blood cell in inhibition of osteoclast differentiation through the expression of T cell of the immune system

Dr. Tsuji-Naito K. in the study of Interleukin-4 suggested that Cinnamomum zeylanicum (C. zeylanicum) exhibited strong inhibitory effects on osteoclastogenesis,......involved the regulation of white blood cells in osteoclastogenesis.

In a comprehensive systematic review of vitro and in-vivo, using databases from PubMed, Web of Science, SciVerse Scopus published before 31st December 2012, cinnamon has shown to express inhibitory effects on osteoclastogenesis with minimal toxic and adverse effects.

The effectiveness of cinnamon in reduced risk of Osteopenic diseases in inducing bone loss, including osteoporosis, bone metastasis, and rheumatoid arthritis may result in inhibition of inflammatory cytokines expression in the immune system. Use of cinnamon should be taken with care, as the herbal medicine has induced toxicity if overdoses.

Herbal Butterbur, the Anti Asthma Functional Remedy

Scientists may have found a medicinal plant for the prevention and treatment of asthma with no side effects, according to studies.

Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease, affecting the airway of the lung with recurring symptoms, such as wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.

Most signs and symptoms of asthma are triggered by exposure to various irritants and substances such as allergens.

Researchers do not know why some people are prone to the substances that trigger the symptoms of asthma while others do not, even process the same health conditions in the same family.

According to the American Lung Association, there are many risk factors can trigger the onset of the diseases, including respiratory problems during infancy and childhood such as wheezing, children who experience viral respiratory infections, children who have an allergic condition, such as atopic dermatitis (eczema) or allergic rhinitis (hay fever), can also develop asthma.

The most preventable risk factors that cause the onset of adults asthma are smoking and obesity. Dr. Chen Y and colleagues at the University of Ottawa in the investigation of the risk asthma in among female Canadians wrote, "The prevalence of asthma was 10.4% for males and 11.2% for females aged 12-24 years. Among the subjects aged 25 years or more, the prevalence varied from 4.1% to 5.8% for men and from 4.9% to 6.4% for women".

And, "Female smokers demonstrated a 1.7-fold increase in the prevalence of asthma compared with female nonsmokers" and " the prevalence of asthma increased with increasing body mass index in females".

The results strongly suggested that if you are female and you don't want to have asthma, you must lose weight and quit smoking.

Butterbur, found in wet, marshy, damp land, including wetland, riverside, forest, etc., is a creeping underground plant, genus Petasites of 15 -20 species, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Northern Hemisphere.

It has been used in herbal medicine used as a pain reliever in the digestive system, including stomach, bile ducts, and duodenum, etc.

The chemical constituents of Butterbur include Petioles, petasitene and pethybrene, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-6''-O-acetylglucoside, and rutin, caffeic acid, alkaloids, S-petasin, and iso-S-petasin, etc.

With an aim to find a natural remedy for the treatment of asthma with no side effects, researchers at the examine the phytoceuticals (non-nutritional but beneficial plant chemicals) used as a pharmacotherapy for asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Recently, herbal butterbur has been found to benefit and improve treatments for lung disease, particularly in that of airway inflammatory disease, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD.

Ovalbumin (OVA) immunized BALB/c mice selected to the experiment were given intranasally together with antigen challenge in the murine model of allergic airway disease (asthma)

The analysis of the inflammatory and immune parameters in the lung suggested FET treated mice exerted a significant effect in inhibiting the allergic response.

Furthermore, PET also inhibited airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and eosinophil recruitment into the bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid upon allergen challenge observed by a medical procedure in which a bronchoscope is passed through the mouth or nose into the lungs but had no effect in the saline control mice.

According to the reading eosinophilic activation marker, PET at a concentration of 100 microg strongly lowered the levels of serum eosinophil peroxidase (EPO).

These results suggested inflammation, eosinophil recruitment, and mucus hyperproduction are significantly decreased in the lung with the administration of 100 microg PET.

Moreover, at the concentration of 30 microg PET, researchers found that airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and inflammation of treated mice associated with the production of inflammatory cytokines reduced (IL-4, IL-5) and RANTES production involved the mediation of acute and chronic inflammation are strongly reduced without affecting the expression of IgE and eotaxin serum levels.

Where Eotaxin is a small protein produced in the lungs of asthmatic patients.

The finding indicated PET inhibited the expression of asthma through decreasing the airway hyperresponsiveness, airway inflammation, eosinophil recruitment, and mucus hyperproduction of the asthmatic mice, in a dose-dependent manner.

Taken altogether, herbal butterbur may be considered a natural remedy for the prevention and combined with conventional medicine for the treatment of asthma and COPD with no side effects, pending to the confirmation of the large sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Ashwagandha Improves Fertility in Men

Infertility is a reproductive disease characterized by the failure to produce a pregnancy after 12 regular unprotected sexual intercourse, including pregnancy that can not be carried to term.

Infertility is very common in the US, approximately 10% of women or 6.1 million, ages 15-44 have difficulty getting pregnant or staying pregnant, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Believe it or not, only a very small number of such groups are seeking help from the professionals.

In men, age, pesticide and chemical exposure, drug use, radiation, pollution, cigarette or marijuana smoke, heavy alcohol consumption may be some risk factors for the onset of infertility.

In fact, some unfertilized women and men sometimes ago are fertile. However, here are some reasons that have found to increase the risk of infertility in the Western world, including
* Persuade a personal career, before having children.
*Try to be financial stability before having children.
* Too young to be a parent, raising a child needs efforts, time and money.
* Enjoy the couple childless years before committing.

Some researchers suggested that the widespread obesity in North America may be the major factor correlated to the increased infertile rate over the past few decades.

Dr. Nicole O. Palmer the lead scientist in the concern of obesity in the risk of men infertility, wrote, "Obesity has detrimental influences on all systems, including reproductive health. The prevalence of obesity in infertile women is high, and it is well known that there is an association between obesity and infertility".

And, "Recent data has shown that male obesity also impairs offspring metabolic and reproductive health suggesting that paternal health cues are transmitted to the next generation with the mediator mostly likely occurring via the sperm.".

Ashwagandha also is known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, Middle East, and the Mediterranean.

The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered as anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.

On finding a potent compound for the treatment of infertility, researchers examined beneficial effects induced by oral intake of the Withania sominifera (Ashwagandha) on semen quality of infertile men.

Based on the tested analysis, oral intake of Ashwagandha roots only improved sperm count and motility, and regulate reproductive hormone levels. but also inhibited the lipid peroxidation associated with the risk of infertility.

In a molecular perspective, oral intake of Ashwagandha roots inhibited the mitigation of oxidative stress and pathways involved in hormonal imbalance by enhancing the interaction of different endocrine glands to improve male fertility.

More precisely, Ashwagandha roots improved men's fertility by mitigating risk factor-that cause the onset of men's infertility.

In stress-induced male infertility on selected normozoospermic but infertile individuals (N = 60) that: divided into normozoospermic heavy smokers (N = 20), normozoospermic under psychological stress (N = 20) and normozoospermic with infertility of unknown etiology (N = 20).

Compared to Normozoospermic fertile men (N = 60), root powder of W. somnifera at a rate of 5 g/day for 3 months showed a strong effect in the treatment of stress-related infertility by improving the level of anti-oxidants and overall semen quality.

Root powder of W. somnifera treatment also resulted in pregnancy in the partners of 14% of the patients.

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb for the treatment of male infertility, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study
