Green tea is found to consist of a therapeutic and sustainable effect in reduced risk and progression of lifestyle diseases, some scientists postulated
Green tea, a precious drink processes a number of health benefits known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.
Lifestyle diseases are a class of diseases associated with the way a person or group of people lives, including atherosclerosis, heart disease, and stroke; obesity and type 2 diabetes....and diseases precipitated by smoking and alcohol and drug abuse.
Epidemiological studies suggested that lifestyle-related diseases may be preventable with the change of lifestyle accompanied by the intake of some nontoxic agents.
Differentiation of the effect of green tea in attenuated risk and treatment of lifestyle-related diseases was found to associate to some mechanisms involving number of aspects, particularly, in gene facilitation.
In animal model, green tea administration inhibited risk and symptoms and progression of chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and multiple sclerosis, through regulation of tumor necrosis factor (TNF-alpha) gene in expression of inflammatory cytokines in promoted systematic inflammation in the acute phase of infection caused by damage and injure tissues, in modulated the activation of NF-kappaB signaling pathway related to cellular response in induction of anti and pro-inflammatory stimulation and transcription factor complex (AP-1) in initiation of inflammation against foreign invasion.
The inhibition of inflammatory cytokines expression reduced symptoms of pain, reddish skin, swelling without limiting the protective effect of the immune system to prevent damage tissues against the invasion of foreign substances.
Further analysis of chronic inflammatory diseases, in transgenic mice model with human idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, suggested that injection of green tea in 4 months demonstrated a significant activity in ameliorated overexpression of TNF-alpha in stimulated production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and interleukin (IL)-6 in initiated inflammatory expression in cellular defense in response to infections and tissue injuries in the lung.
In lifestyle-related diseases of cardiovascular disease, intake of green tea beverage or extract expressed a significant reduction in serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol concentrations, without affecting the levels of HDL-cholesterol.
Additionally, in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, green tea extract catechin injection improved fasting glucose levels without affecting the hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) level, which is an predictor of type 2 diabetes onset and green tea consumed 5 or more cups per day was associated to a strongly and positively inverse association to risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
.
More amazingly, after taking into account of other confounders, Dr. Sueoka E, the lead scientist suggested that intake of green tea, containing catechins and caffeine, 5 or more cups per day exhibited a potential and therapeutic effect for bodyweight management, without going into details.
According to the prospective cohort study in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, green tea injection of over 10 cups per day, displayed a substantial effect in decreased relative risk of death from all causes in patients with cardiovascular disease, particularly, in stroke mortality.
Take together, there is no doubt that green tea with abundantly bioactive phytochemicals may be considered as a functional food to reduced risk, progression, and treatment of lifestyle-related disease, but a change of lifestyle is always recommended.

Garlic, The Best anti Colorectal Cancer in Whole food medicine
Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotics, etc.
Bowel cancer also known as colorectal cancer, is defined as a condition of the abnormal proliferation of cells in the colon, rectum, or vermiform appendix. Bowel cancer is relatively very common and slowly growing and progressing cancer and in a predictable way.
Bowel cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in developed countries, including the US and Canada.
Allicin (diallyl thiosulfinate) is the best-known biologically active component in freshly crushed garlic, found to reduce risk colon cancer through inhibited cancer cell lines HCT-116, LS174T, HT-29, and Caco-2, according to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
In the study of garlic phytochemical compounds such as S-allylmercaptocysteine, diallyl disulfide, and S-trityl-L-cysteine, research also found that the chemical ingredients isolated from garlic inhibited colon cancer cell (SW620 and HCT116) growth followed by induction of apoptosis in a dose-dependent manner.
In Vitro, intake of garlic and its lipid-based extracts, induced cell cycle arrest, through a fourfold increase in caspase activity (apoptosis) in PC-3 cells when treated at a dose of 0.5 or 1 μg/m and may consider being potential as promising anticancer agents, including colon cancer.
Dr. Baena R and Dr, Salinas P said, " Dietary factors and lifestyle may contribute to the increasing colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence... Fish consumption may decrease CRC risk by 12% whereas garlic intake is not significantly associated with reduced CRC risk".
In fact, diet represents 30-35% of risk factors that contribute to the onset of cancer, adding garlic in your diet is associated to reduce the risk of various cancers, including Colorectal Cancer, together with the reduction of from meat intake influenced by both total intake and its frequency.

Ginger, The Alternative Painkiller With No Side Effect
Ginger is one of the natural whole food recommended by many scientists for the treatment of muscle pain and soreness.
Muscle pain is a common condition can arise by a number of factors including injury or overexertion, infections of soft tissues, or inflammation.
Another factor such as the flu may also cause muscle pain.
Medication used for the treatment of cholesterol such as statins, fibromyalgia and underactive thyroidism is also associated with the onset of muscle pain.
Swelling, redness, or fever are also the most common symptoms accompanied by muscle pain.
Acute pain triggered by the nervous system, alerting you to possible injury.
Chronic muscle pain is a pain that lasts more than 3 months. Most cases of chronic muscle are caused by a syndrome of chronic myofascial pain (CMP), a painful condition that affects the muscles and the sheath of the tissue that surrounds the muscles.
The syndrome processes the most highly sensitive and notable symptom associated with the areas within the muscles that can also stimulate the pain in the other area of the body.
In contrast to the chronic myofascial pain (CMP), fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) also cause chronic muscle pain due to brain disorder in processing pain signalings
Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.
The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.
In the reaffirming of the ginger root pain-relief properties, researchers at the Old Dominion University launched a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to determine whether ginger root supplementation reduces muscle soreness and dysfunction from downhill running.
Thirty-two runners (10 women, 22 men) included in the trial were pair-matched and randomized to 1.425 g/day of ginger root or placebo for 5 days.
Ang a 40-minute downhill (-7.5%) run was completed on day 3. Before supplementation and at various points throughout a 5-day protocol, muscle soreness, pain-pressure threshold, vertical jump, and 1.5-mile run performance.
Soreness while jogging likely increased to a lesser degree with ginger root from baseline. Ginger root had a possible small benefit on the vertical jump from baseline to day 5 but no meaningful impact on 1.5-mile run performance.
No significant differences in adverse events were observed during the experiment between treatments.
The results suggested that ginger root possibly has moderate beneficial effects on running-induced soreness but irrelevant effects on recovery of physical performance.
Dr. Wilson PB, said, "Ginger represents one option for runners looking to temporarily reduce pain".
Furthermore, in the findings, a natural ingredient for the treatment of inflammation and pain induced by delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), a joint study led by the Shiraz University, was launched to examine the effect of ginger extract on the biochemical and functional symptom of delayed onset muscle soreness.
36 healthy female subjects included in the study were recruited by intra dormitory calls and randomly divided into 3 groups, including ginger intake 1 hour before exercise (GIBE), ginger intake immediately after exercise (GIAE) and placebo group (PL).
Participants consumed capsules contain 60 mg of ginger extract (the equivalent of 2 g dried ginger powder) or a placebo before and after exercise. The exercise protocol consisted of a 20-minute step test using a 46cm step at a rate of 15 steps per minute.
Ginger intake immediately after exercise (GIAE) showed a significant reduction of pain compared to GIAE after 24 and 48h of EE and GIAE compared to PL.
The inflammatory cytokine IL-6 changed significantly in GIBE compared to PL (p<0.05) after 1, 24, and 48h after EE.
These results indicated that 2 grams of ginger may have anti-inflammation and analgesic effect on DOMS.
Taken altogether, ginger root may be considered a functional painkiller kitchen spice for the deduction of muscle pain and soreness if it is intake 1 hour before exercise.

Herbal Fennel, The Natural Alternative to Antibiotics With No Side Effects
Fennel may be the next natural antibiotic used for the treatment of diseases caused by bacterial infection with no side effects, some researchers suggested.
Although most micro bacteria are harmless, some are pathogenic.
The most common bacterial pathogens that cause human diseases are Staphylococcus aureus and group A β-hemolytic streptococci.
According to statistics provided by the World Health Organization, approximately, 50,000 men, women and children are dying from infectious diseases every day worldwide.
Some researchers suggested that over span decades or centuries, the epidemiological transition provides the central narrative of global health, including a reduction in mortality and the creation of larger and older populations in which the main causes of illness are chronic infectious diseases.
Although in comparison to the third world, the prevalence of infectious diseases in the UK has reduced dramatically over the last century, the rate of infectious diseases caused by pathogen still has a strong and negative impact on major health, social and economic issues.
Each year in the UK, infectious diseases were found to cause 576 of days lost due to disability, out of 1000 population, according to statistics reported by Somerset Intelligence.
The most common symptoms of infectious diseases include fever, diarrhea, fatigue, tiredness, muscle aches,..... coughing. However, signs and symptoms may vary, depending on the pathogen, causing the infection.
Fennel is a species of Foeniculum Vulgare, belonging to the family Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the shores of the Mediterranean. It is now widely cultivated all around the globe to use as food and herb.

In the study to examine 3 different essential oils from grown cultivars of Egyptian fennel, researchers found that according to chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis, all chemical compounds isolated from 3 essential oil processing a strong antioxidant activity in inhibited pathogenic bacteria including two species of fungi, two species of Gram-negative and two species of Gram-positive bacteria.
Further analysis also suggested that the efficacy of compounds isolated from essential oil from 3 species of fennel was attributed to its free radical scavenging, anti-lipid peroxidation, and metal chelating properties.
Additionally, in the observation of essential oils antioxidant activity from Foeniculum vulgare commercial aerial parts and fruits isolated by hydrodistillation, researchers at the Universidade do Algarve conducted an experiment, using different distillation times (30 min, 1 h, 2 h, and 3 h), and analyzed by GC and GC-MS in isolated chemical compounds from obtained fennel essential oil.
According to the analysis of the agar diffusion method. trans-Anethole (31-36%), alpha-pinene (14-20%) and limonene (11-13%), the main components of the essentials oil isolated from F. vulgare dried aerial parts and exerted a significant antibacterial activity compared to methyl chavicol (= estragole) (79-88%) dominant in the fruit oils.
In DPPH method, according to the measurement of oxidative stress, plant essential oils showed better antioxidant activity compared to the fruit's oils.
Dr, Miguel MG, the lead author wrote at the end of the experimental report, "None of the oils showed a hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity > 50%, but they showed an ability to inhibit 5-lipoxygenase. The essential oils showed a very low antimicrobial activity. In general, the essential oils isolated during 2 h were as effective, from the biological activity point of view, as those isolated during 3 h".
These results suggested that the effect of chemical compounds in inhibited pathogenic bacteria is isolated time dependable. Only those isolated less than 2 hours are processed strong antibacterial capability.

Cranberry Extract Kills Nasopharyngeal Cancer Cell in Vitro
The nasopharynx is an upper part of the pharynx, connecting the nasal cavity above the soft palate with a primary function that allows us to breathe through the nose.
Nasopharyngeal cancer is a medical condition characterized by irregular cell growth in the tissues of the nasopharynx.
Most cases of nasopharyngeal cancer start in the cell on the surface of the inner lining of the nasopharyngeal tissue before penetrating into deeper layers to form a tumor through cell cycle division.
A recent joint study led by the Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University Dental College & Hospital suggested that cranberry extract may be potent to inhibit oral cancer.
Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.
According to the TNM system, nasopharyngeal cancer can be classified into stages depending on the size and location of the tumor.
* TX is the stage that the primary tumor cannot be found.
* T0 is the stage that the primary tumor cannot be measured.
* T1 is the stage that the tumor has not spread beyond the nasopharynx.
* T2 is the stage that the tumor extends into the soft tissue of the middle throat.
* T3 is the stage that the tumor has extended into the bone structure or into the area behind the nose.
* T4 is the advanced stage nasopharyngeal cancer in which the tumor has spread to other parts of the body.
The study included 3 dose-related parameters GI50, TGI, and LC50 of cranberry extract used in a number of oral cancer cell lines compared to Chlorhexidine (CHX).
In KB (Nasopharyngeal carcinoma), the application of CE at a dose of 80µg/ml demonstrated a 70.6% growth inhibition.
However, at the same dose, CE showed no anti-cancer property against AW13516 cell line, a poorly to moderately differentiated squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue.
Compared to CE, CHX demonstrated 80.15% & 95.7% of growth inhibition against AW13516 & KB cell line respectively.
Furthermore, compared to the drug Adriamycin, both CE and CHX were less potency reflected by their GI50, TGI, and LC50 values.
In other words, cranberry extracts exerted efficacy against nasopharyngeal cancer, similarly to those of chemo drugs.
Based on the results, researchers said, "CHX exhibited better anti-cancer properties than CE for both the oral cancer cell lines (AW13516 and KG) cell line ".
Taken altogether, cranberry extract may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and treatment of nasopharyngeal cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

The Effects Herbal Aloe vera On lung cancer
Aloe Vera is species of succulent plant in the genus Aloe, belonging to the Family Xanthorrhoeaceae, native to Sudan. It has become very popular for commercial cultivation due to its health benefits. Aloe vera has been used in herbal medicine in treating many kinds of diseases, including wound, burn healing, minor skin infections, sebaceous cysts, diabetes, and elevated cholesterol, etc. It is also one of many popular herbs studied in scientific ways with some conflicting results.
Lung cancer is defined as a condition of the abnormal growth of the cells in the lung's tissue. The most common form of primary lung cancers is derived from epithelial cells. In the Us, Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, causing 158,683 people deaths, including 88,329 men and 70,354 women, according to the 2007 statistic.
The Ingredients
The main areas of chemical constituents of Aloe vera include Aloe-Emodin, amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins, monosaccharides, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols.
The benefits
Aloe-emodin has been studied extensively through our scientific community for their effects against cancer including the study of induced apoptosis in lung carcinoma cell lines CH27 (human lung squamous carcinoma cell) by breaking of DNA strands (DNA ladders and sub-G(1) formation) and regulating of the expression of Bcl-2 family proteins (a suppressor of apoptosis). In the study of the effects of aloe-emodin-induced cell death in the human lung nonsmall cell carcinoma cell line H460, aloe-emodin involved regulating apoptotic cell death through the class of mitogen-activated protein kinases(p38). These results suggested that aloe-emodin found in ALOE VERA may be a potential agent for preventing and treating lung cancer.

Herbal Turmeric, the Natural Treatment for Hyperlipidemia with No Side Effects
Hyperlipidemia is a chronic condition of abnormally high levels of any or all lipoproteins in the bloodstream, including cholesterol and triglycerides.
The condition is normally known as high blood cholesterol in the general population.
People with hyperlipidemia are asymptomatic. Over time, the fat collection in the arteries accompanied by calcium or other substances form plague, leading to narrowing arteries and reduced function of the arteries to transport oxygen-rich blood to the parts of the body.
According to the statistics provided by the CDC, in 2015–2016, more than 12% of adults age 20 and older had total cholesterol higher than 240 mg/dL, and more than 18% had high-density lipoprotein (HDL, or “good”) cholesterol levels less than 40 mg/dL.
Believe it or not, about half of the U.S. adults (55%, or 43 million) are currently taking medicine associated with lower blood cholesterol.
There are many risk factors that cause the onset of hyperlipidemia, such as people with diabetes, being overweight gain, physical activity, and smoking.
Some researchers suggested the promotion of a high-fat diet over the past decades may be one of the silent causes of hyperlipidemia in the Western world.
Dr. Charles Desmarchelier in the examined the risk of high blood cholesterol in a high-fat diet model said, "Mice on Western diet showed increased plasma cholesterol levels, associated with the higher dietary cholesterol supply, yet, significantly reduced cholesterol levels were found in intestine and liver".
And, "(The) intestine and liver react to a high dietary fat intake by activation of de novo cholesterol synthesis and other cholesterol-saving mechanisms, as well as with major changes in phospholipid metabolism, to accommodate to the fat load'.
Turmeric is a perennial plant in the genus Curcuma, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to tropical South Asia.
The herb has been used in traditional medicine as anti-oxidant, hypoglycemic, antiseptic, wound healing agent, and to treat flatulence, bloating, and appetite loss, ulcers, eczema, inflammations, etc.
With an aim to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of hyperlipidemia, researchers investigated the effects of curcumin on hyperlipidemia and hepatic steatosis in high-fructose-fed Wistar rats.
The study included 40 male Wistar rats divided into four groups with 10 rats in each. Two groups were fed with a standard rodent diet and the other two with a 60% high-fructose diet for 10 weeks. Curcumin (200 mg/kg body weight) was administered along with the diets simultaneously to each of the aforementioned diet groups.
After 10 weeks of the experiment, researchers found that curcumin decreased the levels of hyperlipidemia observed by reducing body weight, liver weight, adipose weight.
The plasma levels of triglyceride by inhibited the proteins associated with fat cell fat metabolism, lipid ratios and increased HDL-C (28.4 ± 4.5 mg/dL) in fructose-fed rats were also lower by the injection of curcumin.
Furthermore, curcumin also suppressed the lipogenic enzymes involved in regulating lipogenesis in fat cells.
Taken altogether, turmeric processed a high amount of curcumin may be used for the prevention and treatment of hyperlipidemia, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.
Intake of turmeric in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
