Herbal Anise and It's Bioactive Anethole That Kill Fungi Before They Can Cause Infection

Anise may have potential and substantial antifungal effects, some scientists suggested.

Antifungal activity is the systematic immune response with an aim to protect the body against damage and injury by destroying fungal invasion during the acute phase of infection.

In the plants, certain chemicals or pigments found the outer layer is also the natural anti microorganisms agents with a function to that protect the plants against certain microorganisms in causing harm and interfering with the plants' survival.

Fungal diseases are often caused by fungi found in the environment. They are easy to treat if diagnosed early. However, untreated and late diagnosed fungal diseases may cause some serious complications such as lung infection, infertility and sometimes be life-threatening due to toxicity.

Dr. Robinson PA, the lead scientist in the study of life-threatening fungal infections in patients who cannot be treated with conventional antifungal agents, wrote, " .......in patients with serious fungal infections who failed to respond to or could not tolerate conventional antifungal therapy. Patients were enrolled if they had a life-threatening fungal infection and conventional therapy had failed to eradicate the infection, had caused serious toxic reactions, or was contraindicated".

If you are currently taking conventional medicine such as clotrimazole, econazole, or miconazole for treatment of fungal infection, please make sure that you know the adverse effects, particularly if you are taking them on a long-term basis.

Anise is a flowering plant of the species of Pimpinella anisum, genus Pimpinella, belongings to the family Apiaceae native to Egypt and the Mediterranean region, used in traditional herbal medicine as a fragrance in soaps, oils, and mouth fresheners and stomachic, antiseptic, anti-spasmodic,...

Chemical constituents
Anethole, D-pinene, I-phellandrene, Alpha-terpineol, Safrol, Methyl chavicol, Resin, Shikimic acid, etc.

In the evaluation of the antifungal activities of fluid extract and essential oil isolated from Anise researchers at the University of Zagreb found that application of Anise fluid extract displays a significant antimycotic activity against Candida albicans, C. parapsilosis, C. tropicalis, C. pseudotropicalis, and C. krusei at the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) between 17 and 20%

and dermatophyte species (Trichophyton rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, Microsporum canis, and M. gypseum) with MIC values between 1.5 and 9.0%.

In compared to the fluid extract, Anise essential oil showed a very strong antifungal activity in yeasts with MIC lower than 1.56% (V/V) and dermatophytes with MIC lower than 0.78% (V/V).

Further, in the examine the efficacy of fluid extract researchers surprisingly found that fluid extract not only does not exert any inhibition of species of C. glabrata but also promotes the growth of activity of Geotrichum spp. in compared to essential oil counterpart.
These results suggested that although the fluid extract and essential oil react differently in fungal inhibition, the essential oil expressed an impressively stronger antifungal activity against all species but weaker in compared to nystatin(an antifungal medication) in Geotrichum spp.

Moreover, due to the statistically significant difference of MIC values (p < 0.01) between the essential oils and the fluid extract of anise, researchers suspected that some very potent fungicidal components must be presented in the essential oil of Anise, but not in the fluid extract or only presented in a very low concentration.

Interestingly, in compared to ketoconazole(an antifungal drug), the fluid extract and essential oil of Anise pronounced a substantially higher or equal antifungal activity.

Dr. Kosalec I, after taking into account other co-founders, said, "Anise essential oil exhibited stronger antifungal activities against yeasts and dermatophytes with MIC values between 0.10 and 1.56% (V/V),(in compared to 1.5 and 9.0% of the extract), respectively".

Some researchers suggested that anethole, a major chemical compound found on Anise essential oil may be the component which exerted a significant effect against plant pathogenic fungi, according to the data obtained by hydro-distillation analyzed for its chemical composition by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Indeed, trans-Anethole of 89.5% and cis-anethole 0.7% were found in high concentration in the essential oil but not in the fluid extract.

Anethole expressed a significant antifungal effect, probably through exhibiting antioxidant activities and stimulating the natural antioxidants produced by the body to protect the healthy cell against oxidative damage induced by expression of ROS caused by the proliferation of fungal species.

More importantly, anethole also inhibited chitin, an important structural component of the cell walls of many fungi indirectly governed by an enzymatic activity in permeabilized hyphae, filaments that make up the mycelium of a fungus.in a dose-dependent manner.

These differentiations suggested that anethole may be developed as natural fungicides for plant disease control in fruit and vegetable preservation without inducing intolerantly adverse effect.

Taken together, Anise and its bioactive anethole may be considered as a functional herb for reduced risk, progression and combined with conventional medicine for treatment of fungal overgrowth.

The Functional Herb Which Protects Our Body Against Type 2 Diabetes, Researchers Reveal

Scientists may have found a whole herb which processes anti-diabetes property, some scientists suggested.

Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to regulate the glucose as a result of either cell in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes may also be caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

The actual causes of diabetes inflammatory condition are debatable.

Some researchers also do not know why some people without genetic mutations are susceptible to type 2 diabetes while others do not.

However, certain risk factors such as overweight and obesity (overexpression of fatty tissue that causes insulin resistant), physical inactivity, family history, race,,,,, and age. ...

Women developed gestational diabetes, polycystic ovary syndrome,.... and high blood pressure is also some major risk factors associated to increase the risk of type 2 diabetes.

The first line medicine used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes is metformin which processes a significant effect in improving the body tissue sensitivity to insulin. In other words, metformin improves the body uses insulin more effectively. and lowers glucose production in the liver.

In the stage prediabetes, patients may not experience any symptoms. However, untreated diabetes or diabetes that do not manage properly, may increase the risk of cataracts and glaucoma, foot damage.

In advance stage, untreated diabetes can also cause nerve damage or poor blood flow to the feet which in turn, increases the risk of various foot complications.

Alfalfa is a flowering plant in the genus Medicago, belonging to the family Fabaceae, It has been cultivated all over the world as hay for cattle feeding.

The leaves, sprouts, and seeds to make medicine has been used in traditional medicine over thousands of year to treat high cholesterol, asthma, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, enhance digestive system, bleeding disorder, kidney, and urinary tract infection, etc. North America aboriginal has used Alfalfa seed as food, such as making bread and mush.

It chemical constituents include flavones, isoflavones, sterols, Bichanin, Coumestrol, Diadzein, Formonetin, Genistein,.... and coumarin derivatives.

In the study to examine the Lucerne (alfalfa) effect by oral administrated the herbal extract through diet (62.5 g/kg) and drinking water (2.5 g/l) in reducing the hyperglycemia of streptozotocin-diabetic mice, researchers found
* Application of aqueous extract of lucerne exerts a significant stimulation of insulin secretion from the pancreatic B-cell line.

* Application of aqueous extract of lucern also promotes insulin-like activity in inhibited overexpression glucose.

* The sequential extraction with solvents revealed .higher insulin-releasing activity in both methanol and water fractions compared to one extract constituent.

Further analysis also suggested that the activity of the extract was found to be heat stable and enhanced by exposure to acid and alkali (0.1 M-HCl and NaOH).

Dr. Gray AM, the lead author at the final report wrote, "The results demonstrate the presence of antihyperglycaemic, insulin-releasing and insulin-like activity in the traditional antidiabetic plant, Medicago sativa".

Additionally, in the study to reaffirm the effect herbal alfalfa against onset of diabetes researchers launched a study to compare alfalfa with other herbal medicine including dried leaves of agrimony (Agrimonia eupatoria), blackberry (Rubus fructicosus), celandine (Chelidonium majus), eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), lady's mantle (Alchemilla vulgaris), and lily of the valley (Convallaria majalis); seeds of coriander (Coriandrum sativum); dried berries of juniper (Juniperus communis); bulbs of garlic (Allium sativum) and roots of liquorice (Glycyrhizza glabra).

In mice administrated by streptozotocin (200 mg/kg i.p.) to induce the development of hyperphagia, polydipsia, body weight loss, hyperglycemia and hypoinsulinemia, researchers found that

* Herbal alfalfa exerts a strong effect in reduced the level of hyperglycemia during the development of streptozotocin diabetes compared to others herbs.

* Herbal alfalfa reduced polydipsia and a reduced rate of body weight loss.

* Alfalfa initially countered the hyperinsulinaemic effect of streptozotocin, without affecting the fall in plasma insulin.

Dr. said, after taking into account of other co and confounders, " The results suggest that certain traditional plant treatments for diabetes, namely alfalfa,.......can retard the development of streptozotocin diabetes in mice".

Taking all together, herbal alfalfa may be considered a functional herb for the prevention and treatment of type 2 diabetes.

However, additional data collection on large example size and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of alfalfa anti-type 2 diabetes possibilities.

And long-term multiple dietary supplement consumption of a broad array of vitamin/mineral, herbal, and condition-specific dietary supplements on a daily basis should consult with their doctors or related field specialist before applying.

The Anti Cancers Night Shade Vegetable, Scientists show

Eggplant, the nightshade vegetable may be considered a functional food for the prevention and treatment of cancers, some researchers suggested.

Cancers are class of chronic diseases caused alternation of DNA of healthy cells.

In other words, healthy cells become cancerous if they grow uncontrollably and disorderly out of range of a normal healthy cell population which can only divide between 40 and 60 times.

According to the Hayflick limit theory, most cells survival is totally dependent on the telomeres on the ends of each chromosome.

Every time, healthy cells undergo division, the telomeres are shortened. Once the telomeres shorten to a critical length, the cells will die off.

In advance stage, traveling through fluid and blood circulation, most invasive cancer cells can infect healthy cells or tissue a distance away from the originated site.

According to the statistic provided the Canadian Health Service, In 2017, over 200,000 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer and 80,000 will die from cancer.

Sadly, 1 in 2 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime and 1 in 4 will die from the disease.

Lung, colorectal, breast and prostate cancers are the most common cancer found in Canadian, accounting for half of all cancers diagnosed.

And 60% of Canadians diagnosed with cancer will survive at least 5 years after their diagnosis.

Eggplant is a species of S. melongena, belonging to the family Solanaceae and native to India.

The plant has been cultivated in southern and eastern Asia since prehistory.

Eggplant is famous with its deep purple and the best eggplant can be found from August through October when it is in season.

Chemical constituents
The vegetable chemical compounds containing include sterols (i.e. typical plant sterols, androstane, pregnane and cholestane derivatives, steroidal alkaloids, and sapogenins), phytosterols, triterpenes, δ-amyrin, Chlorogenic acid, Nasunin, and other Polyphenolic compounds.

In the effort to find the plant-derived foods such as potatoes, eggplants, and tomatoes with potential antiproliferative activities against human colon (HT29) and liver (HepG2) cancer cells, researchers at the Yeungnam University conducted a study to evaluate series of structurally related individual compounds in these plants, using microculture tetrazolium (MTT) assay.
Glycoalkaloids solamargine and solasonine and their common aglycon solasodine; and the nonsteroidal alkaloid jervine isolated from eggplant were selected to test the anti cancers possibilities compared to other compound isolated from potatoes and tomatoes.

After taking into account other factors, researchers found that
* Glycoalkaloids derived from eggplant exerts the most active anticancer cells compared to others. However, its hydrolysis products are less active compared to glycoalkaloids.

* Compounds isolated from eggplant are very effective against the liver cancer cells compared to colon cancer cells.

Dr. Lee KR, the lead author on the final report said, "....safety considerations should guide the use of these compounds preventative or therapeutic treatments against carcinomas".

Furthermore, the study to investigate the inhibitory effect of eggplant (Solanum melongena var. marunasu) extract on the human fibrosarcoma HT-1080 cell invasion of reconstituted basement membrane [Matrigel (MG)], researchers discovered

* Delphinidin, a flavonoid pigment contained in the peel demonstrates the most effective against human fibrosarcoma HT-1080 cell.

* Interestingly, application of eggplant extract and delphinidin did not affect tumor cell adhesion to MG or haptotactic migration to MG.

Further analysis of these effects, researchers found that the inhibition of cancer was attributed to
delphinidin of blocking the activity of Matrix metalloproteinases MMPs which are responsible for the degradation of most extracellular matrix proteins during organogenesis, growth and normal tissue turnover.

The findings suggested that the frequency of eggplant intake may associate to reduce the risk of cancers. However, further data collection on large example size and multi-center studies performed with human consumption of the whole food eggplant during the course of cancer will be necessary to complete the picture of eggplant and its bioactive ingredients anti-cancer possibilities.

Green Tea, The Beverage Which Blocks The Onset of Ulcerative Colitis, Researchers Find

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect for prevention and treatment of Ulcerative Colitis, some scientists suggested.

Ulcerative Colitis is a digestive condition characterized by inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) that induces chronic inflammation and ulcers (sores) in the digestive tract.

According to statistic, approximately, between 250,000 and 500,000 people are infected by ulcerative colitis in the United States. The risk of ulcerative colitis onset is between 2 to 7 per 100,000 persons.

Most common symptoms are abdominal pain and diarrhea. However, some patients may also experience symptoms of fatigue or tiredness, loss of appetite, dehydration feeling the urge to empty the bowels constantly,.... and weight loss.

If you have some of the symptoms of above, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility of ulcerative colitis.

Researchers do not know the exact cause of Ulcerative Colitis.

Neither they know why ulcerative colitis induces chronic inflammation and ulcers (sores) in the digestive tract.

However, they do know that certain risk factors are associated to the development of the disease, including genetic mutation of a certain gene, environmental toxins, overreaction of the immune system,.... and long-term high levels of linoleic acid intake.

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

As yin in nature, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weaken immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

Mild to moderate ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, 15 received 400 mg or 800 mg of total Polyphenon E daily, administered in split doses or and 4 in placebo in a double-blinded, placebo-controlled pilot study, researchers at the end of the experiential indicated that oral administration of the extracts exerts a potential effect of reduced levels of inflammation through the improvement of the reading of the mean UC disease activity index score compared to the entry score.

After 56 days of therapy, Polyphenon E treatment group exhibited strong improvement of over response rate of 66.7% (10 of 15) and remission rate of 53.3% (8/15) compared to 0% (0/4) in both response rate and remission rate in the placebo group.

Dr. Dryden GW, the lead author, after taking into account of other co-founder said, "Administration of Polyphenon E resulted in a therapeutic benefit for(ulcerative colitis (UC)) patients who were refractory to 5-aminosalicylic and/or azathioprine".

Polyphenon E is high-quality tea catechin extracted from natural tea leaves.

Further analysis of green tea bioactive polyphenols, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on dextran sulfate sodium- (DSS-) induced ulcerative colitis in rats and to explore the roles of TLR4/MyD88/NF-κB signaling pathway, indicated that application of the extract significantly improves the intestinal mucosal injury in rats though inhibited production of inflammatory factors which were overexpression during the acute phase of injuring and damage to induced further damage to the tissue.

Moreover, green tea bioactive polyphenols, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) also reduced chronic inflammation and maintained the balance of the ratio of Th1/Th2 T-helper (Th) lymphocytes that prevent alterations in cellular immunity in patients with ulcerative colitis.

Imbalance of Th1/Th2 was found to associate to the occurrence and development of ulcerative colitis.

Additionally, injection of green tea EGCG also reduced the levels of TLR4 signaling in activated the intracellular signaling pathway NF-κB and inflammatory cytokine production to imitate inflammation.

Amazingly, researchers also found that injection of TLR4 antagonism not only shows a significantly reduced the protective effect of EGCG on intestinal mucosal injury colitis but also increased the expressions of inflammatory factors in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Moreover, in the examine the antioxidant activity of green tea catechins in model of colitis induced by 2.4.6 trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) using 35 young adult Sprague-Dawley rats which are divided into four groups: normal control (n=5), catechins (n=9), TNBS (n=9) and 2.4.6 trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS) plus catechins (n=12), at the end of the experiment researchers at the Joint study, American University of Beirut, found that groups with TNBS and catechin express strong anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant effects of amelioration of symptoms and expression of ulcerative colitis through stabilizing the mast cells production, induced by injection of TNBS in compared to TNBS treated group.

Dr. the lead authors in the joint study suggested that the study depicted a significant amelioration in the TNBS- and EGCG-treated rats compared to the non-treated animals in similar to histological data, as the mechanism of action occurred basically through the NF-kB pathway and possibly through crosstalk with other pathways.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive polyphenols may be considered as functional foods for the prevention and treatment of ulcerative colitis through the expression of antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity.

Intake of green tea extract should be taken with extreme care as acute toxicity has been reported in some cases.

Long Term Yoga Practice Improves Cognitive Function of Patients with Schizophrenia

Epidemiological studies do agree that yoga lesson may reduce symptoms and complications expression in patients with Schizophrenia, a renowned university study suggested.

Schizophrenia is a mental disorder induced inconsistent or contradictory elements such as the breakdown of certain relation in thought, emotion, and behavior, leading to faulty perception, inappropriate actions,.... and feelings.

The exact causes of schizophrenia are unknown. However, the National Health service suggested that certain risk factors involving physical, genetic, psychological and environmental circumstances are associated with the likeliness of a person to develop the condition.

Sadly, researchers do not know, why people with the same health condition, some are susceptible to Schizophrenia development the while others do not.

Furthermore, stressful or emotional life event might trigger a psychotic episode in patients with Schizophrenia.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia due to health benefits reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the clinically stable, adult outpatients with SZ (n=286) completed baseline assessments randomized to treatment as usual (TAU), supervised yoga training with TAU (YT) or supervised physical exercise training with TAU (PE) researchers at the joint study led by the University of Pittsburgh filed the following results
* After six months and follow up, yoga showed a significant improvement of speed index of attention domain compared to control groups.

* In cognitive domains, yoga group demonstrated a significant improvement compared to PE and with TAU alone, respectively

The further assessment also suggested that both YT and PE improved attention and additional cognitive domains well past the training period, but only the YT group showed a beneficial effect of on speed index of attention domain.

These results of improvement may be attributed to the repeated practice of attentional focus and redirecting attention may be a possible active ingredient for developing greater attentional control

Moreover, the physical and cognitive benefits associated with yoga and mindfulness may be due to mechanisms that activated the parasympathetic nervous system through meditative or contemplative practices.

Some researchers also suggested long-term yoga practice increases body perception, stronger functional connectivity within the basal ganglia and increased activation of grey matter volume and amygdala with regional enlargement.

Additionally, in the review literature published in the databases of MEDLINE, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, BIOS, AMED, PsychINFO involved randomised controlled trials (RCTs) including people with schizophrenia comparing yoga as a package of care with standard-care control, researchers found only 3 studies with all outcomes were short-term (less than eight weeks) with none of them displayed a significant change of yoga group in compared to control.

The findings indicated that short-term yoga practice may have a little effect of improvement of cognitive function.

More importantly, in patients perspective, a study of total of 100 schizophrenia patients (male: female = 57:43; age: 35.8 ± 9.2 years) attending the psychiatry out-patient services of a tertiary neuropsychiatry hospital administered a survey questionnaire, researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences reported the following results
* 46% participant was aware that yoga is also one of the complementary therapies useful in schizophrenia.

* 32% had tried yoga in the past for some reasons, but only 31% of them were continuing yoga with reasons of lack of motivation (31%) and inability to spare time (27.6%).

* However, the majority (88.5%) of them were willing to take up add-on yoga therapy on out-patient basis along with their regular medical follow-up.

Taking all together, long-term yoga lesson may be used as a secondary and therapeutic enhancement of cognitive function in patients with schizophrenia.

Dried Peas Delay and Decrease Postprandial Plasma Glucose and Insulin Concentrations Effectively In Type 2 Diabetes, Scientists Find

Scientists may have found a whole food with a potential effect of management of type 2 diabetes, some studies suggested.

Types 2 Diabetes is a chronic and medical condition characterized insufficient insulin entering the bloodstream to neutralize the levels of glucose.

Types 2 Diabetes is caused either by cells in pancreas dying off or receptor sites clogged up by fat and cholesterol.

In some cases, diabetes can also be caused by allergic reactions of cells in the immune system.

The exact causes of type 2 diabetes are unknown as researchers do not know why? people with same
health condition, some are susceptible to early onset of type 2 diabetes, while others do not.

However, some researchers suggested there are some major risk factors such as genetics and lifestyle associated with early onset of insulin resistance.

Epidemiological studies also suggested that conditions such as overweight, obesity, physical inactivity, family history, race, age, and high blood pressure are some prevalent risk factors of type 2 diabetes, especially, in women with polycystic ovary syndrome and previous gestational diabetes.

According to the World Health Organization, the number of people with diabetes has risen from 108 million in 1980 to 422 million in 2014.

The global prevalence of diabetes among adults over 18 years of age has risen from 4.7% in 1980 to 8.5% in 2014.

Diabetes prevalence has been rising more rapidly in middle- and low-income countries.

Sadly, untreated or improperly managed diabetes are leading causes of kidney failure, lower-limb amputations, and adult-onset blindness.

To understand more of low-glycemic response versus a high glycemic response breakfast meal on postprandial serum glucose, insulin and free fatty acid (FFA) responses after consumption of a standardized mid-day meal in adult individuals with Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), researchers launched a randomized crossover intervention using control and test meals was conducted over a 3-week-period following an overnight fast of 8-10 h.

Patients included in the study were given either Breakfast (A), a high glycemic load breakfast meal consist of farina (kJ 1833; carbohydrate (CHO) 78 g and psyllium soluble fiber 0 g) or breakfast (B) a low-glycemic load breakfast meal consists of a fiber-loop cereal (kJ 1515; CHO 62 g and psyllium soluble fiber 6.6 g) randomly.

Forty-five Type 2 DM subjects included in the study have completed the requirements. By observation of post-breakfast analyses experiment, researchers found that

* Breakfast B had a significantly lower area under the curve (AUC) values for plasma glucose and insulin compared to Breakfast A (P<0.05).

* Post-lunch analyses indicated similar glucose responses for the two breakfast types.

* Insulin AUC values for Breakfasts B were significantly lower than Breakfast A (P<0.05) (95% confidence level).

These result suggested that psyllium soluble fiber have a strong effect to reduce fasting glucose compared to a meal without. However, intake of psyllium soluble fiber showed insignificant improvement postprandially in the glycemic, insulinemic and FFA responses after the consumption of the lunch meal.

Dr. Clark CA, the lead researcher also indicated, "These data revealed no residual postprandial effect of the psyllium soluble fiber breakfast meal beyond the second meal consumed".

Additionally, in the study to evaluate the glycemic and insulinemic effects of dried peas compared to potatoes researchers at the University of Göttingen conducted a study, using 3 different meals based on dried peas, potatoes, or both in patients with type 2 diabetes undergoing dietary treatment.

The tested meals were prepared according to local recipes and consumed at weekly intervals in random order at lunchtime, contained comparable amounts of carbohydrate, fat, protein, and water. The carbohydrate source of the meals differed and was supplied from either dried peas (meal 1), potatoes (meal 3), or a combination thereof (meal 2). Peripheral and venous blood was sampled over 180 min.

In the final report, researchers wrote,
* The increases in postprandial plasma glucose and insulin concentrations were delayed and significantly smaller after the peameal than after the potato meal.

* The areas under the glucose curve were 164, 257 and 381 mmol x 180 min/L for meals 1, 2, and 3, respectively (P < 0.01).

* The areas under the insulin curve were 13.8, 15.4 and 31.2 nmol x 180 min/L, respectively.

These results further reaffirm the effect of dried peas in delay and lower postprandial plasma glucose and insulin concentrations compared to potatoes.

Interestingly, researchers also strongly suggested, "..... carbohydrates in dried peas may be largely disregarded in carbohydrate counting and that type 2 diabetic patients should probably increase their consumption of low-glycemic, high-fiber foods at the expense of high-glycemic, low-fiber foods".

Taken together, dried peas may be considered as a functional food for diabetes management by reducing postprandial plasma glucose and insulin concentrations in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Green tea, The Beverage Kills Bacterial Staphylococcus and Streptococcus That Cause Cellulitis

Green tea may have a therapeutic and positive effect of reducing risk and treatment of cellulitis, some scientists suggested.

The results of the investigation were evaluated by numbers of respectable institutes, including the University of Indonesia and Mashhad University of Medical Sciences and published online in some medical literature databases including PubMed.

Cellulitis is a common and serious bacterial skin infection that affects the deep layer of skin, caused mostly by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacteria, inducing symptoms of a red, swollen skin rash (usually on the lower legs or arms) that feels tender and hot.

The skin infectious disease can appear anywhere in the body, however, in most cases, it affects the skin of the lower legs.

Some researchers suggested that people with a weakened immune system such as age population and intake of immune suppressive drugs and obesity are most likely to develop cellulitis.

As always, most cases of cellulitis are treated with antibiotics in a period of 5-10 days. Please make sure that you discuss the side effects of the medicine with your doctor.

Although it is rare, some people with severe cellulitis that experience severe symptoms of high fever or vomiting and fails to respond to treatment.

Recurrences of cellulitis may require antibiotics that are given by IV.

Green tea is a precious drink processed numbers of health benefit known to almost everyone in Asia and the Western world.

In the searching of natural antibiotics against skin infection such as cellulitis, by reviewing some plants for the treatment of skin diseases taken place during the past 17 year using the of plants is as old as the mankind, researchers found that green tea with abundant polyphenols, epigallocatechin gallate exerts a strong effect as antioxidants to reduce the risk of skin diseases, including tumors, herpes, and cellulitis.

According to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, application of EGCG also demonstrated potential in rejuvenated old skin cells.

Further analysis of green tea catechins, the major green tea polyphenols, exhibited antimicrobial activity against resistant pathogens in induction of skin infection, including cellulitis, researchers at the Mashhad University of Medical Sciences conducted a study to determine the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) values of different agents against bacterial strains, through assessing the interactions of green tea extract, epigallate catechin, epigallocatechin gallate, two types of methylxanthine, caffeine, and theophylline with gentamicin against standard and clinical isolates of Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and the standard strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa).

According to the final phase of the experiment, researchers indicated that
*The MICs of gentamicin against bacterial strains were in the range of 0.312 - 320 μg/mL and the MIC values of both types of catechins were 62.5 - 250 μg/ mL.

* Green tea extract showed insufficient antibacterial activity when used alone

* Methylxanthines had no intrinsic inhibitory activity against any of the bacterial strains tested.

* When green tea extract and catechins were combined with gentamicin, the MIC values of gentamicin against the standard strains and a clinical isolate were reduced, and synergistic activities were observed (FICI < 1).

* A combination of caffeine with gentamicin did not alter the MIC values of gentamicin.

The results of all comparison after taking into account of other co and confounders revealed that green tea extract and catechins potentiated the antimicrobial action of gentamicin against some clinical isolates of S. aureus and standard P. aeruginosa strains", Dr. Fazly Bazzaz BS, the lead author said.

Moreover, the evaluate the antibacterial activity of the Indonesian water soluble green tea extract, Camellia sinensis, against clinical isolates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) (MRSA) and multi-drug resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MDR-P. aeruginosa) also lends a support of the above differentiation.

According to the University of Indonesia,
* The inhibition zone diameter of green tea extracts for S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA were (18.970 ± 0.287) mm, and (19.130 ± 0.250) mm respectively.

* While the inhibition zone diameter for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa were (17.550 ± 0.393) mm and (17.670 ± 0.398) mm respectively.

* The MIC of green tea extracts against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and MRSA were 400 µg/mL and 400 µg/mL, respectively.

* Finally, the MIC for P. aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and MDR-P. aeruginosa were 800 µg/mL, and 800 µg/mL, respectively.

Taken together, green tea and its bioactive compounds may be considered as a functional food for reduced risk and treatment of cellulitis caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus bacterial infection.

Cruciferous Vegetables, The Natural Chemopreventive Veggies Protect Our Body Against Cancers Caused by Chemical Toxins, Scientists Reveal

Cruciferous vegetables, rich of phytochemicals may be considered as the functional food for prevention of cancers caused by chemical carcinogens some studies suggested.

Chemical carcinogens, types of chemical toxins, can induce cellular and chromosomes change and DNA damage, causing mutation of healthy cells, the initial stage of cancer development.

According to the National Toxicology Program 14th Report on Carcinogens “Known to be human carcinogens” provided by the American Cancer Society, there are many different types of chemical carcinogens, including
* Lifestyle factors (nutrition, tobacco use, physical activity, etc.)

* Naturally occurring exposures (ultraviolet light, radon gas, infectious agents, etc.)

* Medical treatments (radiation and medicines including chemotherapy, hormone drugs, drugs that suppress the immune system, etc.)

* Workplace Exposures

* Household exposures

* Pollution
Cancers are class of medical diseases characterized by cell multiply disorderly and uncontrollably.

At the advanced stage, most cancers can travel a distance away from the site of origin to infect other healthy cells and tissue via lymph and blood.

According to the Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, sulforaphane (SFN), the isothiocyanate (ITC) group of organosulfur compounds found in cruciferous vegetable expressed chemopreventive properties involved detoxification processes of chemical carcinogens.

Dr. de Figueiredo SM, the lead author said, " In a dose-dependent manner, ITC inhibits the viability of human cancer cells, modifies epigenetic events that occur in cancer cells and present antiinflammatory effect acting during the initial of uncontrolled cell proliferation."

The chemoprotective activity of the cruciferous vegetable was attributed to significant expression of the antioxidants in cell cycle arrest and apoptosis of cancer cells.

Furthermore, its phytochemicals also can act as the post-initiation stages of carcinogenesis, 'suppressing' agent involving the ability to modulate the Nrf2 which is a protein with unique function of regulating expression of antioxidant proteins that protect against oxidative damage triggered by injury and inflammation.

In fact, besides using as a chemopreventive agent against chemical carcinogenesis, sulforaphane (SFN), the major chemical constituent of cruciferous vegetables also inhibited the drug-metabolizing enzymes that cause activation/neutralization of carcinogenic metabolites and protected normal healthy cells from environmental toxin inducing of cancers.

Moreover, the phytochemical exhibited the molecular mechanisms responsible for the overall chemopreventive effects on selective cytotoxicity, the unique function of inhibiting oxidate stress, free radicals produced by lipid peroxidation in cells.

Additionally, in tobacco smoke carcinogens induced chemical tumors, cruciferous vegetable consumption has shown to inversely associate the development of cancer.

In animal experiments. the chemopreventive effects of isothiocyanates, another compound found cruciferous vegetable, inhibited the metabolic activation of carcinogens by cytochrome P450s, enzymes with the function of metabolized potentially toxic compounds.

Taking together, intake of cruciferous vegetables have a potential health benefit against environment toxins that initiates the early onset of cancers. But due to the small size of the sample, further studies are necessary to address the veggies anti cancers possibility.

Yoga Intervention Can Alleviate Pain and Treat Rheumatic Diseases, Researchers Suggest

Yoga intervention may have a profound effect to alleviate pain and treat rheumatic diseases, some studies suggested.

Rheumatic diseases are a condition of Musculoskeletal disorders, affecting the joints and muscles.

Yoga, the accident technique practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been best known for people in the Western world and some parts in Asia.

In a study to compare the effect of Tai Chi and yoga therapies in treatments for rheumatologic and musculoskeletal diseases, researchers filed the following report
* Both therapy displays a significant effect of Tai Chi and yoga in the management of rheumatologic diseases, particularly in osteoarthritis of the knee, hip and hand, and rheumatoid arthritis pain.

* Tai Chi and yoga are safe, expressed a reduction of pain and improvement of physical function and quality of life in patients with rheumatic diseases.

By the information collected, Uhlig T, the led authors said, "Recommendations for Tai Chi in knee osteoarthritis have recently been issued by the American College of Rheumatology. To allow broader recommendations for the use of Tai Chi and yoga in rheumatic diseases".

The study from McGill University, Montreal suggested that yoga lessons not only improve stress and anxiety and promote a sense of calmness, general well-being, and quality of life but also reduced inflammatory mediators including C-reactive protein and interleukin-6 in overexpression pain in participants with rheumatic disease.

Truly, regular yoga practice can increase muscle strength and endurance, proprioception, the sense equilibrium, and balance, depending on the notion of force and balance, with emphasis on movement through a full range of motion to increase flexibility and mobility, thus reducing physical symptoms in patients with rheumatic diseases.

Some researchers suggested that regular yoga practice
* can improve stress management and can have a feedback effect on improving chronic pain, through affecting the response to pain, decreasing the level of perceived suffering.

* can improve movement of joints, as motion and muscles stretching can decrease the intensity of pain or relieve your pain completely in some patients.

Furthermore, yoga breathing and medication also were found to reduce chronic pain through calming the nervous system to block respond to pain messages, reduce inflammatory chemicals from communicating with nerves and increase the release of natural pain-relieving chemicals called endorphins.

However, in the review of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) by comparing yoga with control interventions in patients with rheumatic diseases by searching database of Medline/PubMed, Scopus, the Cochrane Library and IndMED through February 2013, eight RCTs selected met the guideline with a total of 559 subjects with two RCTs with a low risk of bias, researchers found that all studies expressed a very low evidence for effects on pain and disability, in patients with rheumatic diseases participated in yoga classes, long and short terms.

Taking all together, yoga practice may have a profound effect to alleviate pain and treat rheumatic diseases, however, larger randomized controlled trials. are necessary to reaffirm these possibilities

Yoga Improves All Aspects in Patients with Osteoporosis

Yoga participated may benefit to individuals with osteoporosis by reducing complications of fractures, some studies suggested.

Osteoporosis is a Musculoskeletal disorder (MSDs) medical condition, characterized by decreased bone density.

The exact causes of osteoporosis are unknown. Neither researchers understood that people with the same health conditions, some are affected by the imbalance between new bone formation and bone resorption while others do not.

However, researchers do know that certain risk factors such as a lid to increase lifelong calcium-deficient diet, age, female, family history,.... bone structure and overweight are associated with the early onset of osteoporosis.

Furthermore, long-term intake of certain medications such as prednisone and a medical condition such as rheumatoid arthritis are also the osteoporosis prevalent risk factors

According to the statistic, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men older than 50 will suffer from an osteoporosis fracture, worldwide.

Yoga, the ancient practice for harmonized external and internal body well being, through breath control, meditation, bodily movement, and gesture..... has been well known to people the in Western world and some parts in Asia.

Some of yoga health benefits were reported by various respectable institutes' research and supported by health advocates.

In the review of literature published in PubMed, Medline, and Cochrane databases between 1966 and 2011 about topics related to osteoporosis and spinal movement. researchers found that
*Yoga, as a moderate form of exercise showed to strengthen the muscles supporting the spinal column, promote balance, improve posture, and enhance the quality of life.

* Yoga attendees may also benefit from varied spinal movement in preserving the health and strength of the vertebral bodies.

* Yoga exercise modified by experts may be helpful in reduced risk fracture depending on the risk of vertebral fractures of attendees

After adjusting to other risk factors, Dr, Smith EN the led author said, "Yoga therapists are cautioned to not apply a one-size-fits-all approach when working with this population".
Furthermore, the study also concerned that more studies are needed to further evaluate yoga poses presence which provides the least risk and greatest benefit to individuals with osteoporosis.

Physically, yoga postures and exercise exert a significant effect of stimulating bone metabolism and enhance physical function. the As impact of moderate exercises is recognized as beneficial for the stimulation of bone tissue, muscle strength, type of muscle contraction associated with changes in bone metabolism.

Additionally, in the support of the above differentiation, researchers at the Istanbul University conducted a review of literature posted in databases with 26 postmenopausal osteoporotic women over 55 years of age satisfied the criteria selected found that* Yoga may be used as a form of exercise in the field of osteoporosis rehabilitation.

* Yoga lessons expressed a positive influence on balance, posture, flexibility, and life quality.

* Yoga education has a positive effect on pain, physical functions, social functions, general, particularly in post postmenopausal osteoporotic women.

However, according to the reports from the Mayo Clinic in the examine 3 patients with osteopenia, but in good health and pain-free, and started yoga exercises to improve their musculoskeletal health, researchers warned, yoga class without tailoring to individual students needed may induce pain and complications with some flexion yoga positions in the patients with osteopenia of that can lead to concern that fracture risk and increased even further in osteoporosis.

Dr. Sinaki M, said, "Although exercise has been shown to be effective for improving bone mineral density and decreasing fracture risk, our subjects had the development of VCFs and neck and back pain with yoga exercises. This finding suggests that factors other than bone mass should be considered for exercise counseling in patients with bone loss. The increased torque pressure applied to vertebral bodies during SFEs may be a risk".
Furthermore, the study also advises that even though yoga exercise prescribed for patients with the vertebral bone loss, is effective and important for treatment of osteopenia and osteoporosis but instructors should need to know some positions can contribute to extreme state ain on spines with bone loss.

Taking all together, yoga may be considered as an integrated form of exercise in all ages, but in the older population with osteoporosis, yoga instructors should select an applicable lesson which provides the least risk and greatest benefit to individuals with osteoporosis.

The Herb and Plant Inhibits Mucus Accumulation That Cause Acute and Chronic Cough, Scientists Show

Fennel may have a potential and positive effect in reduced cough through its expectorant activity, some scientists suggested.

The results of the study were conducted by numbers of institutes, including the Kaunas University of Medicine and published on online literature
is a natural and infrequent reaction of the body to clear the throat caused by excessive mucus or foreign irritants. The aim of these function is to make the airway free for air inhaling and expelling.

Acute coughing normally caused by hay fever and the common cold is healed itself within 3 weeks. Chronic coughing is a condition that lasts longer than 3 weeks.

As of today, researchers do not know the exact causes of chronic coughing. However, researchers suggested, the condition may result of postnasal drip, asthma, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD),... and chronic bronchitis. And cigarette smoking is considered as the main culprit.

Long-term use of an ACE inhibitor, a pharmaceutical drug used primarily for the treatment of hypertension and congestive heart failure are also associated with the risk of a chronic cough.

Dr. Terasaki G, the lead author at the University of Washington, said, " Cough hypersensitivity syndrome is a new area of research and has been hypothesized to be the underlying factor in many cases of a chronic cough, regardless of the inciting factor" and " More clinical research is needed to further elucidate the cough reflex pathway and the factors involved in modulating its sensitivity, which may eventually lead to new antitussive therapeutics"(5).

An expectorant is a medicine with a function to promote the secretion of sputum of the air passages for treatment of coughs.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of the genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean.

The herb or food has been used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In the comparison of the effect of some herbal agents in velocity of mucus secretion isolated from the ciliated epithelium of the frog esophagus, researchers found that application fo fructus foeniculi (fennel) exerts a stronger effect than fructus anisi (anise). Herba plantaginis (plantain), flores verbasci (torch weed), and radix liquiritiae (liquorice) but lessers than the application of Folia farfarae (coltsfoot).

This protective effect in the further analysis was found to attribute to mucus layers in the hypopharynx and spasmolytic, secretolytic and bactericide effects found in fennel.

Furthermore, in the experiment to confirm the efficacy of some herbal medicine for treatment of throat clearing used since ancient times, researchers conducted a study to evaluate the bronchial mucus secretion stimulating and antispasmodic, antimicrobial, antiphlogistic and stimulating effect on the ciliated epithelium of two new formulations of throat clearing herbal tea.
The first formulation consists of licorice roots, sweet fennel, and thyme, and the second one consists of pine gemmae, thyme, and elderflowers.

At the end of the experiment, researchers showed that both formulas exerted a significant activity against in inhibited mucus secretion in tested subjects without inducing intolerant adverse effects.

However, loss of the efficacy was found in use of formulas after 2 years of expiration, and the purity of the mixtures may also be decreased due to loss on drying, total ash, microbial contamination, contamination with radionuclides, heavy metals, pesticides, and foreign matter.

These result suggested that although herbal medicine may be effective in exhibited mucus secretion for treatment of a cough, appliers should also be beware of the contamination caused by several aspects.

Moreover, in the investigation to a water extract of a mixture of eight herbs (chamomile, saffron, anise, fennel, caraway, licorice, cardamom and black seed) tested for its inhibitory effect on histamine released in initiated cough from rat peritoneal mast cells stimulated either by compound 48/80 or be IgE/anti-IgE, researchers at the Helwan University indicated that in compared to flavonoid quercetin, the extract demonstrated inhibited histamine released from chemically- and immunologically-induced cells by 81% and 85%, respectively.

Intake of the water extract of tested subjects also displayed a significantly and clinically expectorant expectancy in improvements of sleep discomfort, cough frequency, and cough intensity.

The application also increased percentages of FEV1/FVC in patients suffering from allergic asthma in compared to placebo tea participants.

Where The FEV1/FVC ratio, also called Tiffeneau-Pinelli index, is a calculated ratio used in the diagnosis of obstructive and restrictive lung disease, according to Wikipedia

FEV1: Volume that has been exhaled at the end of the first second of a forced expiration

VC: Vital capacity: the volume of air breathed out after the deepest inhalation
RV/TLC%: Residual volume expressed as percent of TLC

FEFmax: The maximum instantaneous flow achieved during an FVC maneuver

VL: Actual volume of the lung including the volume of the conducting airway

FRC: Functional residual capacity: the volume in the lungs at the end-expiratory position

TLC: Total lung capacity: the volume in the lungs at maximal inflation, the sum of VC and RV

Taken together, fennel used alone or combined with other herbal medicine may be used to get rid of mucus, improve quality of life and treat asthma.

Butterbur, The Functional Herb Which Protects Neurons Integrity, Scientist Find

Scientists have found a herbal plant which processes a potential and therapeutic effect in the protection against damage and death of neurons.

Neuroprotective effects are the protection against anything which causes harm to the brain and spinal cord

In other words, herbal butterbur promotes neuronal integrity against the reduction in the rate of neuronal loss that causes neurodegenerative disease.

Dr. Vajda FJ, the scientist at the St. Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne in the expression of neuro diseases said, "neuroprotection is an effect that may result in salvage, recovery or regeneration of the nervous system, its cells, structure, and function. It is thought that there are many neurochemical modulators of nervous system damage" and " Acute and chronic nervous system damage in response to an insult may lead to acute or delayed neuronal death, apoptotic cell death, neuronal degeneration, injury and loss, and gliosis"(4).

The Mcgovern Institute in the article related to brain disorder wrote, "Many brain disorders are chronic and incurable conditions whose disabling effects may continue for years or even decades. Thus, the overall disease burden from these disorders is much greater than would be suggested by mortality figures alone. The extent of this burden is underlined by data from the World Health Organization".

Most common brain disease neurodegenerative disease including Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), affecting millions of people worldwide.

And, dementia is an umbrella term that describes a variety of diseases and conditions caused by nerve cells in the brain die or no longer function normally. Symptoms may affect memory, behavior, and ability to think clearly.

According to statistic, approximately over 5.7 million Americans of all ages have Alzheimer's. as of 2018, 1 in 8 people age 65 and older (10 percent) has Alzheimer's disease in the US. Sadly, The numbers of Alzheimer's disease are growing and growing fast.

Butterbur, found in wet, marshy, damp land, including wetland, riverside, forest, etc., is a creeping underground plant, genus Petasites of 15 -20 species, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Northern Hemisphere.

The herbal medicine has been used in herbal medicine as a pain reliever in the digestive system, including stomach, bile ducts,...... and duodenum.

The Ingredients
The chemical constituents of Butterbur include Petioles, petasitene and pethybrene, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-6''-O-acetylglucoside, and rutin, caffeic acid, alkaloids, S-petasin, and iso-S-petasin, etc.

In the study to investigate neuroprotective effects in a rat transient focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion model, and in an in vitro cerebral ischemia model, oxygen-glucose deprivation of cultured nerve cells, researchers found that application of total bakkenolides, a major bioactive constituent isolated immediately after reperfusion at doses of 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg markedly reduced brain infarct volume and neurological deficits.

Additional analysis also suggested, the administrated doses also significantly attenuated cell death and apoptosis in primary cultured neurons subject to 1-h hypoxia followed by 24-h reoxygenation.

The efficacy of herbal butterbur in protected neurons was attributed by total bakkenolides in inhibited an enzyme activators with function in propagated the cellular response to inflammation through NF-κB, a protein complex regulated transcription of DNA, cytokine production and cell survival.

In other words, application of total bakkenolides reduced brain infarct volume and overexpression of pro-inflammation cytokines in response to focal cerebral ischemia-reperfusion that have a strong impact in decreased neuro cell damage and death at the site of reperfusion injury.

Dr. Jiang Q, the lead author after taking into account of other co and confounder said, "(The) results provide a strong pharmacological basis for further understanding the potential therapeutic role of total bakkenolides in cerebral ischemic disease.

Some researchers in the study of Bakkenolides in primary cultured neurons exposed to oxygen-glucose deprivation and oxidative insults suggested, Bakkenolides exerted neuroprotective effects may be results from properties of its antioxidant properties.

Moreover, petaslignolide A (PA), a furfuran lignan isolated from butanol fraction of Petasites japonicus (Sieb. et Zucc.) (Compositae) leaves in study of the oxidative damage in the brain of mice, facilitated a significant effect at dose of 40 mg/kg in alleviated the behavioral signs of kainic acid neurotoxicity and reduced the mortality (50%) by kainic acid to 12.5%.

Administration of PA also restore the levels of antioxidants in the mice that were reduced by injection of kainic acid in compared to control.

Further analysis found that PA (40 mg/kg) effectiveness is comparable to those of butanol fraction (200 mg/kg) of P. japonicus extract in reducing kainic acid neurotoxicity.

These results indicated that butanol fraction (200 mg/kg) of P. japonicus extract exhibited strong neuroprotective, probably is due to the presence of petaslignolide A (PA).

The findings suggested herbal butterbur may be considered as a functional herb for neuroprotection, however, the volume of the herb used should only be prescribed herbal doctor.

However, further data collection on large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of butterbur neuroprotective possibilities.

Strawberry and It's Bioactive Flavonoids That Eradicate Risk Factors of Heart Disease

Scientists may have found a fruit which has a potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of heart disease, some studies suggested.

According to statistic, heart disease, after lung cancer kills more than 2,000 Americans every day.

Approximately, 60 million Americans have heart disease.

There are many causes of heart diseases.

Most of the heart diseases are caused by high blood pressure which contributes to hardening of the arteries.

Some researchers suggested that diet high in saturated and trans fats also plays an important role in the initiated risk of coronary heart disease. As the long-term unhealthy diet can cause obesity, high blood pressure,... and diabetes.

Dr. McNamara DJ, in the study of dietary cholesterol, heart disease risk and cognitive dissonance, wrote, "....dietary cholesterol has a small effect on the plasma cholesterol levels with an increase in the cholesterol content of the LDL particle and an increase in HDL cholesterol, with little effect on the LDL: HDL ratio, a significant indicator of heart disease risk"(4).

Truly, everything that adds to the formation of atherosclerosis lesions, damages the inner lining of blood vessels and impedes the transportation of oxygen and nutrition to the heart, is considered prevalent risk factors of arterial blockage, the main cause of heart disease.

Strawberry is a genius of Fragaria × ananassa belongings to the family Roseaceae.

The edible plants have been grown all over the world with a suitable climate for commercial profits due to their's health benefits.

Chemicals constituents of strawberry
The major chemical compounds include anthocyanin and ellagitannins and p-Hydroxybenzoic acid, p-coumaric acid, ellagic acid, cyanidin-3-glucoside, pelargonidin-3-glucoside, kaempferol, quercetin, and myricetin.

According to the followed up study to examine the relationship between anthocyanins, the largest group of water-soluble pigments and the risk of MI, anthocyanin, strawberries intake was found to be potential in preventing myocardial infarction (MI) in young and middle-aged women.

Intake of strawberries was also associated with a decreased risk of MI, in a comparison of those consuming >3 servings a week and those with lower intake.

Dr. Cassidy A, the lead scientist, in the study conducted by the University of East Anglia, including a total of 93 600 women 25 to 42 years of age from the database of the Nurses' Health Study (NHS) II, after taking into account of multivariate adjustment said, "An inverse association between higher intake of anthocyanins and risk of MI was observed (hazard ratio, 0.68; 95% confidence interval, 0.49-0.96; P=0.03, highest versus lowest quintiles)".

Further differentiation of the effects of anthocyanins in reduced risk of a heart problem, also found that anthocyanins efficacy may be associated to improve a variety of effects on blood vessels, platelets, and lipoproteins, the coronary heart diseases reducers.

Moreover, the study of participants includes 34 489 postmenopausal women in the Iowa Women's Health Study who were free of CVD and had complete food-frequency questionnaire information that include Intakes of total flavonoids and 7 subclasses categorized into quintiles at baseline, using the proportional hazards rate ratios (RR) to compute for CVD, coronary heart disease (CHD), stroke, and total mortality after 16 y of follow-up, showed,

* There was a significant inverse association between anthocyanidins and CHD, CVD, and total mortality in compared to no intake of proportional hazards rate ratios (RR) of 0.88, 0.91, and 0.90, respectively.

* The proportional hazards rate ratios (RR) between flavanones and CHD [RR for highest quintile versus lowest 0.78 and between flavones and total mortality [RR for highest quintile versus lowest: 0.88.

* Intake of strawberry were associated with significantly reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases in compared to other foods in the questionnaire.
These results suggested that dietary intakes of flavanones, anthocyanidins, and foods rich in flavonoids were associated with reduced risk of death due to CHD, CVD, and all causes, according to Dr. Mink PJ, the lead scientist.

Taken altogether, strawberry with rich of flavanones, anthocyanidins, and flavonoids may be considered as a functional food in the prevention of early onset and treatment of heart disease.

The Kitchen Herbal Cayenne Spice Bioactive Compound Which Has The Potential to Cure Non Allergic Rhinitis

Scientists may have a positive and potential effect in reduced risk and treatment of Non-Allergic Rhinitis, according to some studies.

Nonallergic rhinitis is a condition with symptoms resembles allergy induced rhinitis but without a known cause. However, some researchers suggested that environmental pollutants or odors, certain foods or beverages,,,,,,, and changes in the weather can trigger symptoms of the condition.

Some medications and underlying chronic health problems are associated with an increased risk of nonallergic rhinitis,

Most common symptoms are persistent sneezing, congestion, or a runny nose.

Chronic forms of rhinitis occurred in the absence of any detectable specific IgE against relevant allergens. In its broadest sense can be called chronic nonallergic rhinitis(1).

Long-term intake of medicine used for the treatment of nonallergic rhinitis such as nasal sprays containing an antihistamine may reduce symptoms of nonallergic rhinitis but can facilitate side effects of drowsiness or sleepiness, dizziness, dry mouth, nose, or throat,,,, increased appetite, weight gain, and upset stomach

In some cases, patients may experience, thickening of mucus, changes in vision, some psychological symptoms of nervousness, excited,... and irritable.

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belongings to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions.

The herb has been used in traditional medicine to increases metabolism, enhance circulatory system and stomach and the intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises, and neuralgia, etc.

Ingredients
The chemical constituents of Cayenne include capsaicin, capsacutin oil, solaine, xanthenes, oleic acid,.... and palmitic acid.

ICX72 or Sinus Buster, a proprietary homeopathic preparation of Capsicum annum, in the study of 42 consented subjects meeting inclusion/exclusion criteria randomized to ICX72 (n = 20) or control (n = 22) administered twice daily over 2 weeks, exhibited significant differences in changes from baseline and improvement in nasal congestion, sinus pain, sinus pressure, and headache, at 5, 10, 15, and 30 minutes, persisting at 60 minutes for nasal congestion and sinus pain inpatients with Nonallergic rhinitis(2).

Further analysis in concerns of the application adverse effects, researchers found that there is no difference between groups in adverse events in compared to placebo.

Dr. Bernstein JA, the lead author said, " ......intranasal capsaicin, when used continuously over 2 weeks, rapidly and safely improves symptoms in rhinitis subjects with a significant NAR component".

More importantly, ICX72 group experienced no rebound congestion or impaired olfaction in compared to placebo at the end of the study.

Moreover, in the study of 30 patients randomized into two different treatment regimens

* Group A received capsaicin five times on the first day at 1-h intervals, followed by a placebo dummy once every second or third day for a total of five treatments 2 weeks after the capsaicin application.

* Group B received the placebo dummy five times on the first day followed by capsaicin once every second or third day for a total of five treatments 2 weeks after the placebo application.

At the end of the experiment, researchers showed that

* Treatment group A reduced overall nasal symptoms, rhinorrhea, and nasal blockage, in compared to group B

* Both groups showed a significant reduction in cold dry air does responsiveness and nasal hyperreactivity. up to 9 months after therapy

* There were no No significant changes in safety data (smell, blood pressure, heart rate in group A in compared to group B.

Dr. Van Rijswijk JB, the lead scientist wrote, "....intranasal capsaicin seems safe to use and that five treatments of capsaicin on a single day is at least as effective as five treatments of capsaicin in 2 weeks".

The findings suggested that capsaicin may process the potential to cure nonallergic rhinitis.

However, large example size and multi-center clinical trials are necessary to reconfirm capsaicin anti nonallergic rhinitis validity.
