The Natural Alternative to Depressants Without Inducing Any Side Effects

The use of plants for healing purposes have been predated long before the existence of modern medicine.

Herbal plants have formed a fundamental source for conventional medicine in the discovery of single-ingredient medication, including aspirin (from willow bark), quinine (from cinchona bark), and morphine (from the opium poppy)......

Depression is a normal response as part of our daily lives such as the loss of s job, the death of a loved one, and illness, affecting the way you eat, sleep, and the way you feel about yourself.

Over 30 million Americans suffer from depression and the amount is increasing at an alarming rate.

According to general belief, people who suffer from depression may experience some mental and physical symptoms, observed by screen assay for depression in clinical settings.

The most common mental symptoms are feeling sad without reason and guilty, emotionally out of control, trouble concentrating or remembering, lack of motivation, having negative thoughts,...., particularly, in loss of interest in usually pleasurable activities.

And most common physical symptoms include lack of energy or fatigue, difficulty performing daily activities, changes in sexual desire, appetite,.... particularly, in the change of sleep pattern or difficult to sleep.

Researchers do not know what causes of depression. Why some people are more susceptible to the syndrome while some don't. However, depression may associate a lot of different factors that affect our mental health.

According to the mapping risk factors for depression across the lifespan, the development of depression may involve a complex interplay of environmental and genetic risk factors including widowhood, physical abuse during childhood, obesity, having 4-5 metabolic risk factors, sexual dysfunction, job strain and with into consistent evidence for the causal effects of obesity, smoking, and alcohol consumption(4).

If you are experiencing some of the above symptoms, you may be at the early onset of depression. Please make that you see the related field specialist immediately.

If you are taking conventional antidepressants, such as sertraline (Zoloft), fluoxetine (Prozac, Sarafem) citalopram (Celexa), escitalopram (Lexapro), paroxetine (Paxil, Pexeva, Brisdelle), fluvoxamine (Luvox), please make sure you know the adverse effects such as increased appetite, weight gain, loss of sexual desire, fatigue, drowsiness, insomnia. dry mouth, blurred vision, constipation,.....

Green tea may have a profound effect in reduced risk and treatment of depression, some scientists suggested

Green tea, a precious drink processes numbers of health benefit, known to almost everyone in Asia and Western world.

However, as yin in natural herbal medicine or food, long-term injection of large amounts may obstruct the balance of yin-yang, induced "yin excessive syndrome" or "yang vacuity syndrome" including weakening immunity and painful case of GERD,... according to traditional Chinese medicine's Yin-Yang theory.

In vivo, application of green tea(GT) and GABA green tea (GGT) expressed a protective activity of against post-stroke depression (PSD), a common consequence of stroke, according to a joint study led by the Pavia University.

And, in a mouse model of post-stroke depression, GGT and GT enhance the activity in the modulation of depressive symptoms through decreased oxidative stress, increased antioxidant endogenous defenses, including polyphenol, theanine, glutamine, etc......

Also, according to a cross-sectional study of consumption of green tea and coffee ascertained with a validated dietary questionnaire and the amount of caffeine intake estimated from these beverages, conducted by the joint venture lead by the Fukuoka Women's University, green tea consumption is associated to reduce symptoms of depression, depending to amount of intake.

Compared amount intake, participants consumed ≥4 cups green tea/d had a 51% significantly lower prevalence odds of having depressive symptoms than those consumed less than 1 cup/d.

The multiple-adjusted odds for depressive symptoms comparing the highest with the lowest quartile of caffeine consumption was 0·57.

These results suggested that green tea consumption have a linear effect correlated to numbers of cup intake per day without mentioning the effects of maximum cups that patients can take.

Dr. Pham NM, the lead author in the study said, "higher consumption of green tea, coffee and caffeine may confer protection against depression".

Furthermore, in the review of Embase, PubMed, and Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure databases from their inception through August 2014, tea consumption of more than 3 cups a day showed a significant decrease the risk of depression of 37% (RR = 0.63, 95% CI: 0.55-0.71), in compared to individuals with lower tea consumption and those with higher tea consumption.

Taking together, there is no doubt, green tea may be used as a functional food in reduced symptoms and risk of depression if consumes daily.

However, oral administration of large amount daily should be taken with care, particularly to people with yin constituent.

How to Prevent Onset of Oral Cancer Naturally

Chickpeas lectin may have a profound effect in ameliorated risk and treatment of oral cancer, some scientists suggested.

Garbanzo beans also are known as chickpea is an edible legume of genus Cicer belongings to the family Fabaceae.

The bean is considered as one of the legumes containing a high amount of protein and minerals.

It is one of the earliest cultivated vegetables, native to the Middle East.

Oral cancer is a medical condition characterized by cell growth disorderly and uncontrollably in the mouth region. At the later stage, the cancerous cell may travel a distance away from the original site to infect healthy tissues and organs.

Investigation of the process of chickpea lectin in reduced oral cell proliferation and tumor expansion
may involve the expression of several aspects and mechanisms.

According to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, chickpeas inhibited proliferation of human oral carcinoma cells at the concentration of 37.5 μg/mL (IC50) and no toxic effect.

Further analysis, chickpeas anti-cancer activity probably was a result of the pro-apoptotic effect induced by photochemical agent lectin found abundantly in the legume.

Lectin is types of protein with the important function of binding to cell membranes and influence cell-cell interaction.

On experiential oral cancer cell line, injection of leptin showed a significant effect in inhibition of the p38α MAP kinase-activated under cellular stresses in response to inflammatory cytokines and involved function in the control of many other aspects of the physiology of the cell, such as control of cell cycle or cytoskeleton remodelling,.. for cell survival of the cancer in presence of substrate (ATP).

By blocking the physiological expression of a cancer cell, lectin reduced the cell proliferation and subsequently, shrinking the cancer site.

Furthermore, a phytochemical lectin isolated from chickpeas also demonstrated a binding affinity with p38α in regulated the production of certain inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF), interleukin (IL)-1, IL-6 which may have certain effects in the induction of cancer growth.
The kinase p38α MAPK (p38α) is a pro-apoptotic enzyme. played a pivotal role in many biological processes, including protecting the cells in responses to inflammation and injury,

Specifically, in the influence of the production of inflammatory cytokines by p38α, lectin regulated the potent pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by cells of the innate immune system IL-1β in the induction of tumor growth and metastasis in cells under prolong period of inflammation.

According to general belief, many cancers have been found to arise from sites of infection, chronic irritation and inflammation.

In tumor necrosis factor alpha TNF-α, application of chemical lectin to oral cancer site suppressed the inflammatory expression of the protein in induced cell survival and proliferation and promoted the pro-apoptotic function of TNF-α in a program of cell death and cell cycle arrest.

Tumor necrosis factor alpha TNF-α is cell signal protein with function in induced inflammation in the acute phase of injuring and in numbers of cellular process, including cell survival, proliferation, differentiation, and death.

Importantly, the binding of kinase p38α MAPK also activated the function of IL-6, in inhibiting the factors in the induced production of inflammatory cytokines which have a negative impact in oral cell oncogenesis and enhance the expression of boosting T cell trafficking to tumor sites to induce the cytotoxic effect.

IL-6, an interleukin with duo functions in both pro-inflammatory cytokines and anti-inflammatory myokines,

Taken together, chickpea lectin may be considered as a functional food in the prevention of oral cancer.

Dried Beans Protect Cell Integrity And DNA Transcription Against Most Types Of Cancer Onset, Medline Studies Revealed

Adding a portion of dried beans into your diet may have a potential effect in reduced risk of cancers onset, according to the Division of Cancer Prevention, National Cancer Institute.

Dried beans are a nutritionally mighty member of the legume family, belonging to the family Fabaceae.

The healthy sources of dried legume, including protein, fibers, vitamins and minerals such as dietary fiber, fat, protein, vitamin A ( beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin), B vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, ... and zinc can be included in any one diet,

Certain genetic mutations may have significant influences in the risk of cancers, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes which can elevate the risk of breast and ovarian cancers.

According to statistic, women who carry mutated gene BRCA1 and 2 have a 50 to 85 percent increased risk of developing the disease by age of 70.

Other causes of cancer are unknown, however, researchers suggested that smoking and use of tobacco, unhealthy diet, family history, inactive physical activity, long-term exposure to sun and other types of radiation, infected viruses, and infectious diseases are some of the potential risk factors that may have a strong impact on the development of cancers.

Cancer is a class of diseases characterized by cell growth uncontrollably and disorderly, affecting all the organs and tissue.

Depending on its invasive nature, some cancers can travel a distance away from the original site to infect other parts of the body.

In the study to investigate 490,802 United States participants of the NIH-AARP Diet and Health cohort using Cox proportional hazard models adjusted for potential confounders and during 2,193,751 person-years of follow-up from 1995/1996-2000, researchers found that
*. Intake of vegetables shows a significant effect in reduced risk of certain types of cancer.

* The relative hazard ratio risk of cancers was reduced to .95 in compared to control

*. Risk of cancers is reduced substantially as shown in the highest tertile of Leguminosae group (dried beans, string beans, and peas, 0.80, 0.67-0.96) compared to other groups.

Dried bean and string bean with abundant fiber scored the lower and lowerest relative risk ratio in compared to peas and other kinds of vegetables.

Further analysis of diets of African-American men and women, undergoing colonoscopies in order to examine the relationship between selected dietary factors and the risk for colon polyps, according to the multiple logistic regression model used to adjust for potential confounding variables and to determine which factors influence colorectal adenoma risk, researchers said, " consumption of legumes such as dried beans, split peas, or lentils was negatively associated with risk (of cancers)" and "Legumes are a good source of dietary fiber and of phytochemical compounds that may play a role in reducing adenoma formation or growth".

Once again, dried beans exerted the highest effect in reduced risk of colorectal adenoma in compared to other types of legume.

Interestingly, in broader scope of further exploration of the association between legume intake and cancer risk in a case-control study of 11 cancer sites in Uruguay between 1996 and 2004, including 3,539 cancer cases and 2,032 hospital controls, researchers suggested, intake of legume including dried peas demonstrate a substantially decreased risk of stomach and prostate cancer and other forms of cancer, including
*. Cavity and pharynx cancer had a relative odd risk ratio of OR=0.48

*. Esophagus cancer with OR = 0.54

*. Larynx cancer with OR = 0.55

*. Upper aerodigestive tract cancer with OR = 0.50

*. Stomach cancer with OR = 0.69

*. Colorectum cancer with OR = 0.43

*. Kidney cancer relative had an odd risk ratio of.OR = 0.41

* With relative odd risk ratio of .68 on all sites combined

After adjusting to other risk factors researchers concluded, "Higher intake of legumes was associated with a decreased risk of several cancers including those of the upper aerodigestive tract, stomach, colorectum, and kidney, but not lung, breast, prostate or bladder".

These results suggested that the protective effect of dried beans in inhibited most types of cancer occurrence may be a result of improvement of host cells integrity against alternation of cells DNA transcription in the induction of cancer.

Coffee Gobbles Up Arterial Plaque, in the Reduced Mortality Risk of Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack), Scientists Say

Habitual coffee consumed by myocardial infarction patients showed a significantly reduced risk and rate of mortality, some scientists suggested.

Myocardial infarction is another term of heart attack occurred when blood flow suddenly decreases or stops to a part of the heart, that cause substantial damage to the heart muscle.

The causes of a heart attack are associated to the building up plaque in the arteries, affecting the volumes of blood flood in transport nutrients and fluids to the body organs and tissue due to narrowing of the blood vessels.

Cholesterol narrowing the arteries is one common cause of coronary artery disease, a major cause of heart attack.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), a plaque is made up of fat, cholesterol, calcium, and other substances found in the blood.

People in the early stage of a heart attack may experience symptoms of chest pain or discomfort which may affect upper body, including the pain of the shoulder, arm, back, neck, or jaw.

Researchers at the Mayo clinic suggested, "Limiting how much saturated and trans fats you eat is an important step to reduce your blood cholesterol and lower your risk of coronary artery disease" and "A high blood cholesterol level can lead to a buildup of plaques in your arteries, called atherosclerosis, which can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke".

In the differentiation of the effect of fruit and vegetable intake and risk for coronary heart disease, Dr. Joshipura KJ at Harvard School of Public Health indicated
* Highest quintile of vegetables and fruits intake is associated with reduced risk of coronary heart disease with the relative odds ratio of .80 in compared to lowest quintile of intake.

* The risk of coronary heart disease is reduced by 4% for each 1-serving/d increase of fruits or vegetables. The odd ratio decreases further to those who eat green leafy vegetables, regularly.

Coffee, a popular and social beverage all over the world, particularly in the West, is a drink made from roasted bean from the Coffea plant, native to tropical Africa and Madagascar.

In a study of 4365 Dutch patients from the Alpha Omega Cohort, aged 60-80 y (21% female) and experienced an MI <10 y before study enrollment, using baseline (2002-2006), to evaluate the dietary data including coffee consumption over the past month collected and 203-item validated food-frequency questionnaire, after examine the returned questionnaire from participants, researchers showed that
* Most of the patients(96%) were coffee drinkers
* Intake of coffee >4 cups/d, regularly and daily expressed an inverse association to risk of mortality in compared to 0-2 cups/d.
* Motility risk after myocardial infarction (MI) was decreased for every cup of additional coffee intake

Interesting, researchers also found out that there was no risk difference between caffeine and decaffeinated coffee.

These findings suggested that the efficacy of reduced risk of mortality of MI patients may be associated to chemical constituents in coffee, other than caffeine.

Additionally, in the review of literature in the database of MEDLINE and Embase published between 1946 and 2015, 2 eligible studies involved-AMI mortality risk against coffee consumption with a total of 3271 patients and 604 died, in patients classified as light coffee drinkers (1-2 cups/day) versus non-coffee drinkers, heavy coffee drinkers (a>2 cups/day) versus noncoffee drinkers and heavy coffee drinkers versus light coffee drinkers, scientists filed the following results
* All groups showed a significant reduction in risk ratio in compared to nondrinkers.

* The hazard risk ratio was 0.79 in light coffee drinkers versus non-coffee drinkers.

* The risk ratio of 0.54 was found in heavy coffee drinkers versus non-coffee drinkers and

* Heavy coffee drinkers versus light coffee drinkers were associated with a risk ratio of 0.69

Although there was no linear association of the amount of coffee intake in risk of MI and MI morality, coffee intake expressed a strong effect against the risk of MI and MI death in patients after a heart attack.

These results of coffee efficacy may be associated with coffee hypercholesterolemic activity in the prevention of cholesterol building up for the development of coronary artery disease(5).

Most important, even though habitual coffee consumption exerted an enormous effect in reduced risk
coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, arrhythmia, and stroke as well as decreasing risk of mortality, but most of the data on coffee's health effects are based on observational examine with very few randomized, controlled studies, and association does not prove causation.

Therefore, further data collection on studies performed with human consumption over a long-term in compared coffee and noncoffee intake ( risk of heart attack)and during the course of the disease(risk of mortality) will be necessary to complete the picture of possibilities of coffee efficacy.

Additionally, while addressing the possible advantages of regular coffee consumption, researchers must also take into account potential, risks such as anxiety, insomnia, tremulousness, and palpitations.

Celery and Celery Seeds in Suppression of Arthritis

Celery may be used as natural food therapy in suppressed Arthritis Diseases in the induction of acute and chronic painful or inflammatory symptoms, some scientists suggested.

Arthritis is a class of over 100 medical conditions, affecting people of all ages, sexes, and races.

In an aging population, the most common cause of arthritis is the degeneration of cartilage, the slick, cushioning surface on the ends of bones that has bee worn away, causing bone rubs against bone, in the induction of pain, swelling, and stiffness.

Depending to the severity of osteoarthritis, patients may experience symptoms that surround the joints in hands, knees, hips, and spine, such as pain in the joint during or after movement, muscle and feet tenderness, stiffness, loss of flexibility. ... and grating sensation.

The other most common types of arthritis are Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) that is a long-term autoimmune disorder, inducing warm, swollen, and painful joints.

According to statistic, approximately, 50 million adults and 300,000 children have some forms or types of arthritis.

The CDC statistic from 2013–2015, stated that an estimated 54.4 million US adults (22.7%) annually have ever been told by a doctor that they have some form of arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, lupus, or fibromyalgia(4).

The prevalent risk factor is also depended to where you live. For example, the percentage of adults with arthritis varies by state, ranging from 17.2% in Hawaii to 33.6% in West Virginia in 2015(4).r

The John Hopkins arthritis center suggested, " Data from 32,322 adults in 11 states from the 1998 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance Survey (BRFSS), a health survey given annually in the United States, indicates that adults with arthritis report significantly greater HRQL impairment compared to adults without arthritis"(5).

Celery is a species of Apium graveolens, belongings to the family Apiaceae. The food or vegetable is cultivated all around the globe for commercial profits.

Celery can grow to 1/2 m tall with stalks (leaf on the top) arranging in a conical shape joined at a common base.

According to a recent study, celery seed extract (CSE) processed a strong effect in suppressing arthritis symptoms in a model of polyarthritis without interaction to medication intake. in comparison to aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen

Dr. Powanda MC, the lead researcher said, " unlike many dietary supplements, the available data suggest that CSE does not significantly affect the p450 enzyme systems( function in interaction with medication intake) and thus is less likely to alter the metabolism of drugs the individual may be taking"

The over-counter (OTC) oral remedies for arthritis and rheumatism classified celery seed extracts are more effective than ibuprofen in the anti-arthritic assay without causing gastric bleeding.

However, treatment of arthritis is ranged from almost zero to highly effective depending on a certain class of products.

Therefore, for maximum effect, types of celery seed extract (CSE) chosen should only be prescribed by related field specialist.

In support of the above differentiation, the Prince of Songkla University conducted an experimenter by applying A. graveolens (AGE), a bioactive compound isolated from celery seed against liver oxidative stress in adjuvant-induced arthritis rat model.

The results showed that oral administration of AGE (250, 500, and 1,000 mg/kg) for 24 consecutive days reduced symptoms of arthritis through reduced liver oxidative stress and enhanced liver antioxidant properties including host antioxidant enzymes glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and superoxide dismutase (SOD).

Taking all together, intake of celery may be effective in ameliorated symptoms of arthritis through binding to the expression of proinflammatory cytokines.

However, further data collection on large sample size and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption during the course of the investigation will be necessary to complete the picture of celery and its bioactive compounds protective effect against arthritis possibilities.

The Herbal Extract That Kills Gastric/Stomach Cancer Cells in Vitro, Scientists Find

Scientists may have found a chemical constituent isolated from Andrographis paniculata, with potential in reducing risk and treatment of gastric cancer, a respectable institute study suggested.

Gastric/Stomach cancer is a condition of abnormal growth of the mucus-producing cells of the inside lining of the stomach.

Adenocarcinoma is the most common type of gastric cancer.

The causes of gastric cancer are debatable, but some researchers suggested that people with chronic
gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), a condition caused by the frequent backflow of stomach acid into the esophagus, is the most likely to develop the disease(4).

Other diseases associated with the early onset of gastric cancer are obesity and smoking(4).

According to the Universidad de Salamanca, bacteria and virus, including Helicobacter pylori are strongly associated with chronic gastritis, clinical syndromes, precancerous lesions, and pathogenesis of gastric cancer development(5).

If you experience some of the symptoms such as feeling bloated after eating, feeling full after only eating small amounts of food, persistent heartburn, and severe indigestion, stomach pain,.... and persistent vomiting, please check with your doctor right the way for the arrangement of a diagnosis(4).

The picture captured during the exam may sometimes be misdiagnosis as an ulcer, a mushroom-shaped or linitis plastica.

If the suspicious area is found, endoscopic ultrasound may be necessary to rule out the cancer onset possibility.

Most importantly, in compared to antioxidant effects in a patient with H. pylori gastritis and gastric cancer, researchers found that concentration of serum superoxide dismutase and serum malondialdehyde that exhibiting oxidative stress caused by overexpression of free radicals are significantly higher and plasma ascorbic acid, the antioxidants are significantly lower in gastric cancer patients.

These results suggested gastric cancer is also associated to the imbalance of ratio of antioxidants produced by the host enzymes and free radical accumulation, leading to elevated ROS that causes oxidative stress in alternated DNA of gastric cells through cytotoxicity.

According to the Canadian cancer society, in 2017(6), an estimated:
* 3,500 Canadians were diagnosed with stomach cancer.

* 2,100 Canadians died from stomach cancer.

* 2,200 men were diagnosed with stomach cancer and 1,250 died from it.

* 1,300 women were diagnosed with stomach cancer and 790 died from it.

Andrographis paniculata is also known as Andrographis is a herbaceous plant, genus Andrographis, belonging to the family Acanthaceae, native to India and Sri Lanka.

The herb has been used in traditional Siddha and Ayurvedic for treatment of common cold, flu, upper respiratory infections, infectious diseases, diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, pneumonia,...

According to the joint study lead by the Chosun University, Andrographolide, a natural compound isolated from Andrographis paniculata, exerted a potentiated apoptosis and reduction of the ability of a cell to form clones triggered by recombinant human tumor necrosis factor of signaling systemic inflammation involved immune stimulation.

The study also found that Andrographolide enhances TRAIL(a protein functioning as a ligand in regulated the process of cell death)-induced apoptosis through interfering cell division via a protein functioning involved the process of cell death and ROS generation in gastric cancer.

Dr. Lim SC, the lead author said, "Exposure of GC cells to andrographolide altered the expression level of several growth-inhibiting and apoptosis-regulating proteins, including death receptors".

In three gastric cancer cell lines (SGC7901, MGC803, BGC823), with Application of Andrographis significantly decreased gastric cancer cells adherence to stimulated endothelial cells by inhibited the E-selectin expression that activated cytokines of the immune system.

Taking all together, Andrographis paniculata with high levels of Andrographolide may be used as a therapeutically promising product in reducing risk and treatment of gastric cancer.

However, further data collection on large sample size and multi-center clinical studies performed with human consumption during the course of the investigation will be necessary to complete the picture of Andrographis and its bioactive compounds protective effect against gastric cancer possibilities.

Intake of Andrographis paniculata supplement should be taken with exceptional care as overdoses may cause acute liver toxicity.

Fennel, The Herb or Food Better Than Ibuprofen in Stopped Primary Painful Period

Adding a portion of fennel in daily diet may have a potential and positive effect in reduced pain caused by sensory neurons stimulus in women with primary dysmenorrhea, some scientists suggested.

The results of the investigation were carried out by numbers of respectable institutes, including the Babol University of Medical Sciences and Health Services and details of the experiment were published on the online medical library.

Antinociceptive activity is an action or process of blocking the painful injurious stimulus by sensory neurons.

Dysmenorrhea is also known as a painful period, a menstrual cramp in the regions of the pelvis or lower abdomen that last a few days during menstruation, caused by overproduction of certain hormones in the family of prostaglandins.

Some women may experience periodic pains during or prior to, or after menstrual periods in the lower abdomen. In some cases, the pain can also spread over to the whole abdomen and lumbosacral region.

There are 2 Types of dysmenorrhea
* Primary dysmenorrhea
Primary dysmenorrhea affects about 90% in the girls in the first 2 years of menstruation. Some researchers suggested that it may be caused by immature of the reproductive organs.

* Secondary dysmenorrhea
Secondary dysmenorrhea is caused by gynecological diseases. including hormone imbalance, endometriosis, fibromas, pelvic inflammatory disease, etc.

Accompanied to the painful period, women may also experience to psychological symptoms such as anxiety, depression, irritability, digestive symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and physical symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, and painful breasts.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In order to compare the effect of combination of fennel extract/vitamin E with ibuprofen on the intensity of pain in primary dysmenorrhea among the students of Tabriz city in 2007-2009, researchers od the joint study lead by the Kosar Department of Shahid Motahhary Hospital carried out an investigation of 68 students from Medical and Tabriz universities, who were living in the dormitory, suffering from primary dysmenorrhea.

All participants were randomly divided into two groups of 34 students each (the two groups used combination of fennel extract/vitamin E and ibuprofen cross-over form in the 2 months).

Application of the combination displayed a mean of peak pain intensity in the first, second, third, sixth, and forty-eighth hours that is significantly lower than the ibuprofen group.

Also, a combination of fennel extract/vitamin E was more effective than ibuprofen in the first hour (P < 0.03) and second hour (P < 0.04), according to the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) tool for ranking the intensity of the pain.

These result suggested that fennel and vitamin E combination was more efficacy in blocking the neuron in transmitting pain caused by overexpression prostaglandins hormone in the induction of abdominal muscle constriction in compared to conventional medicine ibuprofen.

Dr. Nasehi M, the lead author, after taking into account of other co and confounders said, "Combination of fennel extract/vitamin E is effective on decreasing the intensity of pain of primary dysmenorrhea, and it is advised to those who cannot use chemical drugs".

In a separate study to investigate the effect of fennel used alone on primary dysmenorrhea symptoms and amenorrheal duration, 80 female students satisfied the criteria and guideline were randomly divided into two groups of intervention (n = 40) and control (n = 40).

The intervention group was given one soft capsule Fennel (30 mg) every 4 hours, 3 days before menstruation till the 5th day and continued for 3 months. The control group received no medication.

According to the result of the experiments, fennel treated group exerted significant decrease of the mean of nausea intensity and weakness from 1.93, and 2.88 after 3 months, in compared to control group from 2.37, 6.65 in control group.

Furthermore, in compared to the control group, the fennel group reduced the duration of the menstrual period after two and three months of use.

Moreover, Fennel treated group demonstrated a strong improvement of quality and feelings of well-being after 1 and 3 months.

Taken together, fennel may be considered as functional food for treatment of Primary Dysmenorrhea without inducing adverse effects.
