Added This Queen Herb for ANTI: Ageing, Menstrual Disorders and Menopause Symptoms and More.......

Chaste tree berry processes both estrogenic and anti-estrogenic properties may be considered as a functional food for women in delayed aging progression, restored hormone balance in ameliorated menstrual disorders, and alleviated menopausal symptoms and more........

Chaste tree berry is a species of Vitex agnus-castus, genus Vitex, belongings to the family Lamiaceae, native to the Mediterranean region, used in herbal medicine for thousands of year as an aphrodisiac herb and considered as Queen herb in treating menstrual problems and discomforts.

Estrogenic Property
Chaste tree berry (Vitex agnus-castus L.) displaced estrogenic ability induced the reaction of estrogen from the binding site of estrogen receptors alpha (ERalpha) and beta (ERbeta), in ameliorated the deregulation of 17β-Estradiol (E2) in exhibited the initiation and progression of cell malignancies, affecting various aspect in women body, a study by respectable Institute suggested.

According to the University of Illinois at Chicago, linoleic acid isolated from the extract of Vitex agnus-castus exerted estrogenic activity in binding to estrogen receptors, inducing certain estrogen-inducible gene expression in preserving the integrity of the genome, presented in a cell or organism.

Dr. Jarry H, the lead author in the study of "evidence for estrogen receptor beta-selective activity of Vitex agnus-castus and isolated flavones" found that besides linoleic acid, flavones derivative vitexin and penduletin. isolated from Vitex agnus-castus (VAC) also expressed the estrogenic effect as most active ERss-selective phytoestrogens.

Anti-estrogen Property
Chaste tree berry(Vitex agnus-castus), also processes anti-estrogenic property in binding the estrogen receptors for a balance between the activities of estrogen receptor ERα or ERβ.

Anti estrogenic effects are an act of binding the estrogen receptor(ERα ) and/ERβ in inhibiting the excessive levels of estrogen circulating in the body.

According to the University of Alabama in Huntsville, in the study of the potential effect of estrogen mimics or anti-estrogens in phytochemicals of popular dietary herbal supplements, researchers found that almost all herbal supplements containing phytochemical components showed a capability in binding to the human estrogen receptor and exhibit selective estrogen receptor modulation, including chaste tree berry.

Casticin, a flavonoid isolated from Vitex rotundifolia, significantly expressed anti-estrogenic effect in reduced the prolactin release stimulated by E2 in induced inhibition of ERα mRNA expression in a concentration-dependent manner, through its anti-estrogenic effect.

In a hyperprolactinemia (MIHP) induced by administration of metoclopramide dihydrochloride (50 mg/kg, tid, ip, for 10 d) in SD rats, application of casticin (10, 20, and 40 mg/kg, ip, for 7 d) reduced serum prolactin levels by 33.9%, 54.3%, and 64.7% and at(1 and 10 micromol/L) inhibited E2-induced pituitary cell proliferation by 27.7% and 42.1%, respectively through reduced levels of 17β-Estradiol (E2) significantly.

More importantly, oral administration of casticin, a flavonoid isolated from Vitex rotundifolia displayed an anti-estrogenic activity in decrease excessive levels of 17β-Estradiol (E2) significantly

Summary
Chaste tree berry(Vitex agnus-castus) exerts estrogenic components of plant extracts may constitute a potential use for some dietary supplements in human for treatment of various estrogen-related syndromes and diseases, including breast and prostate cancers, menopausal symptoms, osteoporosis, atherosclerosis and stroke, and neurodegeneration and anti-estrogenic effects in binding estrogen receptor site to preserve the balancing of hormone expression of estrogen through ER-alpha and ERBeta inhibition and exhibition by regulating the function of some estrogen-inducible genes.

In other words, chaste tree berry stimulated estrogen receptors in release estrogen into the blood in case of deficiency or inhibited extra levels of estrogen in case of excess in maintenance hormone balancing with other sex hormones.

Rapeseed Oil Inhibits The Clusters Associated with Metabolic Syndrome

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions associated with the increased risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

The health problems found in the group include too much fat around the waist, elevated blood pressure, high triglycerides, elevated blood sugar, and low HDL cholesterol.

In other words, if you have 3 of the conditions in the group, your risk of CVD and diabetes are increased substantially compared to those who have less.

According to the statistics, approximately 30% of people in the US are living with metabolic syndrome.

Believe it or not, among US adults aged 18 years or older, the prevalence of metabolic syndrome rose by more than 35% from 1988–1994 to 2007–2012, increasing from 25.3% to 34.2%.

Rapeseed, also known as rape, oilseed rape, is a member of the family Brassicaceae (mustard or cabbage family), cultivated in the suitable climate regions for its oil-rich seed for commercial profits.

On finding a potential compound for the prevention of heart disease, researchers at the University of Applied Sciences investigated the effects of a hypo energetic diet with low energy density (ED) enriched in rapeseed oil-derived n-3 fatty acid α-linolenic acid (ALA), in patients with metabolic syndrome.

The human trial included eighty-one patients with metabolic syndrome randomly assigned to received either rapeseed oil derived high MUFA content and an ALA intake of 3.5 g/d on body weight or olive oil diet rich in MUFA, but with a low ALA content.

According to the results, after a 6-month dietary intervention, the rapeseed oil and olive oil groups showed a significant in reduced body weight and metabolic factors associated with cardiovascular risk.

In other words, intervention groups with rapeseed oil not only significantly decrease the systolic blood pressure, but also reduces total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and insulin levels in patients with metabolic syndrome.

More interestingly, serum triglycerides (TAG) associated with cardiovascular and nonfatty liver disease risk factors were significantly reduced only in the high ALA intake, compared to no effect on the low ALA group.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "our dietary food pattern with a low ED and high intakes of MUFA and ALA may be a practical approach for long-term dietary treatment in patients with the metabolic syndrome".

Taken altogether, rapeseed oil may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Cayenne, the Natural Whole Food Medicine for Gastrointestinal protective effects

Cayenne, the chili spice has been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of Gastrointestinal disorder. According to a recent study, cayenne exerted various beneficial effects on the gastrointestinal system by a variety of mechanisms such as the influence of gastric emptying, stimulation of gastrointestinal defense and absorption, stimulation of salivary, intestinal, hepatic, and pancreatic secretions.

Cayenne is also known as Cayenne Pepper, a red, hot chili pepper, belonging to Capsicum annuum, the family Solanaceae, native to sub-tropical and tropical regions, used in traditional medicine to increases metabolism, enhance circulatory system and stomach and the intestinal tract, adjust blood pressure, lower LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, treat frostbite, muscles, arthritis, rheumatism, low back pain, strains, sprains, bruises, and neuralgia, etc.

According to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, in the evaluation of eight healthy volunteers, intake of cayenne showed to slow the rate of gastric emptying and faster the whole gut transit after the meal compared with the other meal.

In fact, adding chili in the meal is associated with a faster whole gut transit time, affecting the intestinal transit or gastric emptying.

In an 18 well-nourished healthy human adult volunteers study, Dr. Kochhar KP, the lead researchers at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, said, " The t1/2 of the spicy meal, 40.09 +/- (p < 0.05) thus implying a faster transit through the stomach" and " In 17 out of the 18 subjects, t1/2 of the spicy meal was consistently lower than that of spice free meal".

Intake of Cayenne regularly no doubt have improved the gastrointestinal function through increased metabolism. use of chili supplement should be taken with care to prevent toxicity

Chamomile, the Best Natural Whole Herb Medicine for Immunomodulatory effect

Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla), in a recent study conducted by some renowned institutions, restored the resistance against lethal infection with the predominately granulocyte-dependant Candida albicans in immunosuppressed mice.

Administration of the chamomile extract in five doses enhanced the total white blood cell count (up to 1.2 × 10(4) cells/mm(3)) and increased significantly bone marrow cellularity.

Chamomile is also known as camomile, the common name of many species daisy-like plants in the family Asteraceae, used in traditional medicine as antispasmodic and anti-inflammatory constituents and to treat menstrual cramps and sleep disorders, reduce cramping and spastic pain in the bowels, relieve excessive gas and bloating in the intestine, etc.

The immune system is the set of cells comprised of the body's defense system against diseases.

Heteropolysaccharides found in Matricaria chamomilla L. showed to normalize the development of the immune response upon air cooling as a result of initiated immunostimulating properties of enlargement of red blood cells and activation of immunoregulation cells.

Dr. Ghonime M, the lead author, said, "immunomodulatory activity,.....Chamomile extracts may have therapeutical implications in the prophylactic treatment of opportunistic infections and as supportive treatment in oncogenic cases".

There is no doubt that chamomile and its chemical ingredients have expressed a strong immunomodulatory activity in the protection of our body against various diseases, but the intake of large quantities should be taken with care to avoid toxicity.

Ginger, The Best Functional Food For Symptoms of Nausea and Vomiting

Scientists may have discovered a pungent and kitchen spice that processes a significant effect in reducing nausea and vomiting with no side effects, according to some studies.

Nausea and vomiting are the natural protection of the digestive system reacted to many causes, including food poisoning, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining), an ulcer, or bulimia.

Morning sickness or nausea and vomiting are common experiences in pregnancy, affecting 70–80% of all pregnant women.

Nausea and vomiting that often develop by five to six weeks of pregnancy are the results of the rise of the hormone estrogen in the early stage of pregnancy. The syndrome may get even worse in women have a sensitive stomach which tries to adapt to the changes of pregnancy.

Morning sickness in the pregnancy may seem obvious in general population, however in a group of women with severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy due to hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), an entity distinct from nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP), may lead to significant maternal and fetal morbidity if untreated.

Dr.Noel M. Lee, the lead author at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the study " Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy" said, "Various metabolic and neuromuscular factors have been implicated in the pathogenesis of NVP and HG; however, their exact cause is unknown. Consequently, treatment of NVP and HG can be difficult as neither the optimal targets for treatment nor the full effects of potential treatments on the developing fetus are known".

Where hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is a pregnancy complication characterized by severe nausea, vomiting, weight loss, and possibly dehydration.

Other causes of nausea and vomiting are due to the prolonged period of exposure to stress and long-term fatigue.

Patients who are having chemotherapy are associated with an increased risk of nausea and vomiting because of the injection of chemo drugs can affect parts of the stomach and brain that detect toxic (poisonous) substances.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The pungent spice has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

With an aim to clarify the effect of ginger extract in treating chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), a joint study led by Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital was conducted to determine whether ginger could be used to treat CINV, which was interpreted using the PICOS (patient, problem/population, intervention, comparison, outcome, study) framework, with P being patients who underwent chemotherapy.

After searching the studies in English from 2000 to 2017 databases. 2 on a total of 10 studies with complete data. was included in the meta-analysis using Comprehensive Meta-analysis.

Ginger exerted a significant effect in reducing the symptoms of nausea and vomiting with the odds ratio (OR) of 0.71

Further analysis also discovered that ginger could only reduce acute CINV in patients, particularly acute vomiting.

After taking additional ]assessment of the co and confounders, Dr. Chang WP the lead scientist said, "Ginger displayed significant efficacy with regard to controlling CINV in the experimental groups".

In the reaffirming the effect of ginger in the early pregnancy symptoms of nausea and vomiting of pregnancy (NVP), a joint study led by the Iran University of Medical Sciences launched an evaluation to compare the effects of ginger, pyridoxine (vitamin B6), and placebo.

The triple-blind clinical trial on pregnant women suffering mild to moderate NVP between 6 and 16 weeks of pregnancy.

In these women ginger, 500 mg twice daily, vitamin B6 40 mg twice daily and placebo twice daily were administered for 4 d.

The severity of NVP was evaluated 24 h before entering the study and up to 4 d after using medications and results were compared among the three groups.

The women of the three groups did not have significant differences according to age, gestational age, parity, and severity of each symptom before treatment and educational status.

After assessing the returned questionnaires, researchers indicated
* Ginger and vitamin B6 could reduce the severity of all items of Rhodes questionnaire significantly.

* Ginger and vitamin B6 were more effective than placebo

* The total score of Rhodes did not show a significant difference between a ginger and vitamin B6 (p = .128). Ginger was more effective for nausea (intensity and distress).

These results once illustrate the efficacy of ginger in the treatment of nausea and vomiting in early pregnancy.

Taken all together, there is no doubt that ginger may be used as a functional food for the treatment of nausea and vomiting in both early pregnancy and side effects of chemo treatment.

Fennel Seeds, A Potent Galactogenisis in Increased Milk Secretion in Lactation Period

Fennel may have potential and therapeutic effects in improved milk secretion, some scientists suggested.

Galactogenisis is a function in promoted lactation in milk insufficient feeding baby's women.

Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) is a plant species of genus, belongings to Apiaceae (Umbelliferae), native to the Mediterranean, used in traditional and herbal medicine as warming, carminative, antispasmodic, antidepressant agent and to stimulate the appetite, ease indigestion, soothe coughing, reduce intestinal spasms, to regulate the menstrual cycle and relieve PMS,...

In the finding, the natural sources for the answer of the question of produced enough milk in women who face challenges in their efforts to breast-feed their infants, researchers at the CANADIAN JOURNAL OF MIDWIFERY RESEARCH AND PRACTICE conducted a study of a total of 23 women at one to four months postpartum to share their experiences with childbirth and postpartum self-care, suggested that out of 23 women interviewed, 4 women reported insufficient milk supply and 11 women showed an improvement of lactation by using galactagogue substances, including herbal medicine fennel.

According to the survey returned from these participants, four women used fennel seed or oil, and all considered herbal products was effective as a galactagogue. One learned about it from a friend, two from their midwives, and one from her mother who used it herself while breastfeeding.

These results suggested that herbal medicine including fennel may process a significant benefit in increased milk production but Dr. Rachel Emma Westfall, Ph.D. suggested that further investigation is necessary to validate this viability.

Although the mechanism in enhanced lactation effects of fennel seeds acting as galactagogues are little known, some scientists postulated that the result of fennel in increased milk secretion was attributed to the phytochemical anethole in the expression of estrogenic property.

Anethole, the main constituent of the essential oils of fennel and anise, has been considered as an active estrogenic agent by the actual pharmacologically active investigation.

Truly, according to the Cochrane Pregnancy and Childbirth Group, in the evaluation of the fennel effect in increased milk production breastfeeding mothers suggested that anethole, the major bioactive compound isolated from fennel is considered weakly estrogenic agent and may increase breast milk production or assist with the ‘let-down’ reflex, through enhanced function of hormone oxytocin.

These results suggested that fennel as galactagogues may improve milk production by working, either directly or indirectly, on the hormonal pathways that control lactation.

In other words, the application of fennel restored the function of the hormone prolactin in the induction of milk formation and hormone oxytocin produced by the pituitary gland with function to contract special muscle cells around the alveoli in the breast to ensure the expulsion of milk.

To ensure these processes continued without interruption, the application of fennel seed also rebalance the hormone secretion by preventing the overproduction of estrogen and progesterone in reduced expression of the hormone prolactin in inhibited milk production. according to the results in animal models.

By blocking serum of estrogen and progesterone in blood circulation, fennel seed ensured that the pituitary gland continuously releases of prolactin in stimulated mammary gland cells in the secretion of milk.

Some researchers suggested the function of fennel in facilitated milk formation and secretion may also be as a result of increasing numbers of milk-secreting cells during the lactation state caused by sucking of the young by enhancing the growth of mammary alveolar growth, prolactin, or both.
Today, even with extensive researchers, there is little known about the mechanisms of fennel seeds in the enhanced production of milk during the lactation period. Some researchers concerned that overdoses of fennel seeds may cause potential adverse effects since dosages for galactagogues are mostly unquestioned and untested.

Taken together, fennel seeds may have a potential effect as galactogenic herbal medicine in increased milk formation and production. However, further study with a large sample size conducted by multiple centers is necessary to re-confirm its viability scientifically.

Cinnamon - The Best Whole Food Medicine for Reduced Risk and Progression of Cognitive impairment

According to Hoseo University, water extracts of Cinnamomum cassia Blume bark (CCB; Lauraceae), effectively prevent the cognitive dysfunction through the prevention of formation of amyloid-β in induced cell death and toxicity.

Cognitive impairment is considered as an early stage of dementia, affecting memory, language, thinking, and judgment

Cinnamon is a spice derived from the inner bark of tree, native to South East Asia, of over 300 species of the genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the familyLauraceae, use in herbal and traditional medicine as anti-fungal and bacteria level, to improve reproductive organ, prevent flatulence and intestinal cramping, and to treat indigestion, diarrhea, bad breath, headache, migraine, etc.

Administered orally of Cinnamomum zeylanicum (CZ) for a period of 21 days in animal model induced cognitive improvement through inhibition of a certain extent of oxidative stress.

In AD mice model, cinnamon reduced accumulation of soluble oligomeric assemblies of the β-amyloid polypeptide (Aβ) by inhibition of the formation of toxic Aβ oligomers induced toxicity of Aβ on neuronal cells, thus reducing the risk of accumulation of plagues which is the early signed of AD development.

Also in an animal study, the standardized lyophilized aqueous extract of cinnamon bark (LCZE) testing on learning and memory in rodents at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg, p.o. dose levels against streptozotocin (STZ)-induced memory impairment, exhibited improved discrimination between a familiar object and a novel object and function of neurotransmitters activity and reduced oxidative stress parameters in both brain parts.

Cinnamon and its chemical components may be beneficial for patients in early state of Cognitive impairment. The use of herbal medicine should be taken with care as overdoses may induce toxicity.

Herbal Garlic - The Whole Food Medicine for Antiplatelet Aggregation

Garlic (Allium sativum) is a species in the onion genus, belonging to family Amaryllidaceae, native to central Asia. It has been used popularly in traditional and Chinese medicine in treating common cold and flu to the Plague, blood pressure cholesterol levels, natural antibiotic, etc.

Several sulfur-containing compounds, isolated from garlic may be very effective in inhibition of platelet aggregation, recent study suggested.

Antiplatelet activity is the effect in decreased platelet aggregation and inhibited thrombus formation.

According to the Ochanomizu University, sulfur-containing compounds in garlic not only inhibited arachidonic acid metabolism but also suppressed aggregation in association with the function of the platelet plasma membrane.

In vitro, garlic mechanisms of action may be comparable to that of the clinically used drug clopidogrel, as the herb exerts antiaggregatory effects. Garlic extracts are acting by inhibition of the ADP pathway, an important physiological agonist of normal hemostasis and thrombosis.

Dr. MacDonald JA lead of researcher said, " The ability of an aromatic disulfide to inhibit platelet aggregation can be enhanced by appending an electron-withdrawing group to the aromatic ring. The results presented establish that the aromatic thiosulfonate is a very effective inhibitor of platelet aggregation"

Besides the sulfur compound, Ajoene, (E,Z)-4,5,9-trithiadodeca-1,6,11-triene 9-oxide, isolated from alcoholic extracts of garlic reversibly inhibited platelet aggregation through platelet deposition on severely damaged vessel wall but not affected platelet adhesion.
In fact, in the comparsion of the effect of the Garlic Pill with Plavix on Platelet Aggregation and Bleeding Time, groups treated with 1200 or 2400 mg garlic inhibited platelet aggregation substantially, through increased time of bleeding.

The use of garlic supplement should be taken with care for patients who are taking Anticoagulant as garlic may increase risk of bleeding. Also, patients with ulcer should consult with their doctors.

Ginger, the Kitchen Spice Which Suppresses the Onset and Progression of Rheumatoid Arthritis

Ginger may have a potential effect on the prevention and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, some scientists suggested.

Rheumatoid arthritis is a type of arthritis and chronic low-grade inflammatory disease associated with the immune system mistakenly attacks the joint tissue.

According to the statistic, in the US over 1.3 million Americans were affected by rheumatoid arthritis compared to 1% of the worldwide population.

As of today, researchers do not know what triggers the immune system makes antibodies that attack the joint tissue. Why people with the same health condition in the same family, some are susceptible to the onset of the condition while others do not.

However, they do know the increase in age, family history, gender, environment, smoking, and obesity are some prevalent risk factors of RA.

In fact, lifestyle is some preventable risk factor which have been found to elevate the risk RA in the Western world.

Dr.Kathleen Chang, the lead scientist, in the study "Smoking and Rheumatoid Arthritis" clearly suggested that by following a healthy lifestyle, RA may be preventable.

The Doctor team continued " Recent developments have shed light on the pathophysiology of RA in smokers, including oxidative stress, inflammation, autoantibody formation, and epigenetic changes".

And "The association of smoking and the development of RA have been demonstrated through epidemiologic studies, as well as through in vivo and animal models of RA.

These results indicated a significant change in RA risk just by quitting cigarette smoking.

Ginger (Zingiber officinale) or ginger root, the second superfood used for thousands of years by mankind, is the genus Zingiber, belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, native to Tamil.

The root has been used in traditional and Chinese medicine to treat dyspepsia, gastroparesis, constipation, edema, difficult urination, colic, etc.

On seeking alternative therapy for patients with chronic, painful diseases, a research team at the Basic Clin Pharmacol Toxicol investigated the potential of hydroalcoholic extract of Zingiber officinale rhizomes (Z. officinale extract) in ameliorating inflammatory process in rat rheumatoid arthritis.

Application of Z. officinale extract at the doses higher than 50 mg/kg/day intraperitoneally showed a significant effect in boosting the immune activity in rats with rheumatoid arthritis.

Continued administration for 26 days Z. officinale extract can ameliorate the clinical scores, disease incidence, joint temperature and swelling, and cartilage destruction.

The results were attributed to the extract effect in inhibiting the production of proinflammatory cytokines which play a critical role in facilitating the onset of low-grade inflammation.

The extract also reduced the immune system in the production of an antibody against the joint tissue.

Moreover, Z. officinale extract at the dose of 200 mg/kg/day was superior compared to those of 2 mg/kg/day injection of indomethacin in most of the measured parameters.

Dr. Fouda AM, at the final report, said, "These observations might make Z. officinale extract a good alternative to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for patients with rheumatoid arthritis".

In arthritis induced by a single intradermal injection of 0.1 mL of Complete Freund's adjuvant (containing heat-killed Mycobacterium tuberculosis) into the palmar surface of the left hind paw conducted by the King Faisal University, Al-Hufof, researchers examine the anti-rheumatoid arthritis in rats randomly assigned to receive orally and daily (for 28 consecutive days) distilled water as vehicle, indomethacin (1.0 mg/kg body weight), or GTaq (200 or 400 mg/kg body weight, ginger-turmeric rhizomes mixture ) from the day of arthritis induction.

Application of GTaq (especially the high dose) was more effective (4.2-38.4% higher, P < 0.05-0.001) than those of indomethacin (a non-steroidal/anti-inflammatory drug) in alleviating the loss in body weight gain, the histopathological changes in ankle joints, blood leukocytosis and thrombocytosis, iron deficiency anemia, serum hypoalbuminemia and globulinemia.

Rats treated the Gtaq also showed a reduction of the impairment of kidney functions and the risks for cardiovascular disease.

Further analysis suggested that the protective effects of GTaq are attributed to increasing the food intake and decreasing the systemic inflammation and antioxidant activity in the inhibition of oxidative stress.

The finding supported the use of ginger-turmeric rhizomes mixture for the treatment against RA severity and complications.

However, further data collection large example size and multi-centers studies performed with human consumption of the whole food during the course of the disease will be necessary to complete the picture of ginger anti-rheumatoid arthritis possibilities.

Bromelain Inhibits the Risk of Skin Cancer In Vitro

Skin cancer is a medical condition caused by irregular cell growth in the skin tissues, due to the alternation of cell DNA.

Most cases of skin cancer in the US are associated with prolong-period of sun exposure. In other words, UV rays that damage the skin have been the main culprit that causes the onset of skin cancer.

Believe it or not, according to the statistics, skin cancer is the most common cancer in the US. one in five Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime.

Every day, approximately 9,500 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with skin cancer due to a misunderstanding of the health benefits and risk of sun and tanning exposure.

Most common symptoms at the early stage, are a large brownish spot with darker speckles, a mole that changes in color, size or feel or that bleeds, a small lesion with an irregular border and portions that appear red, pink, white, blue or blue-black.

There are 3 major types of skin cancer, including* Basal cell cancer
It is the most common type of skin cancer associated with the abnormal growth of the cells in the lowest layer of the epidermis. Cancer rarely spread and kill but can cause significant destruction and disfigurement to the affected skin area, accounting for more than 90% of all skin cancer in the U.S.

* Squamous cell cancer
It arises from the uncontrolled multiplication of transformed malignant cells in the middle layer of the epidermis.

* Melanoma
Melanoma is less common compared to other skin cancer caused by the malignancy of melanocytes, the cell produced dark pigment for your skin.

Some researchers suggested that by seeking the shade, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM. covering yourself with proper sunglasses, clothing, and hat, using sun protective cream, particularly in avoidance of tanning and UV tanning beds, most types of skin cancer are preventable

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

In the urgency to find a natural ingredient for the treatment of skin cancer, researchers examined the bromelain (BL) effect in the form of nanoparticles (NPs) based delivery systems on skin cancer cells.

The formulated NPs with a mean particle size of 130.4 ± 8.81 nm exhibited sustained release of BL by observation of the analysis.

According to the tested assays, BL loaded poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) NPs enhanced anti-tumor effects compared to free BL.

In tumorigenesis mice model, NPs reduced the average number of tumors by 2.3 folds), delayed tumorigenesis by 2 weeks), and inhibited the percent tumorigenesis by 4 folds.

Furthermore, the administration of NPs also exerted a significant effect on reduced the percent mortality rate and the average tumor volume.

More precisely, NPs demonstrated anti-cancer cell efficacy was attributed to its capability in modulating the expression of pro-apoptotic (P53, Bax) and anti-apoptotic (Bcl2) proteins.

Based on the finding, researchers said, "developed NPs formulation could be used to improve the efficacy of chemotherapy by exerting chemo-preventive effects against induced carcinogenesis at lower dosages".

Additionally, in another mouse skin tumorigenesis model, bromelain not only exerted a similar effect of the aforementioned study it also reduced tumor volume up to a tune of approximately 65%.

In this case, bromelain induced cancer cells apoptosis by stimulating the expression of proteins associated with tumor-suppressive and pro-apoptotic genes, inhibiting the gene involved in anti-apoptosis.

Taken altogether, bromelain may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of skin cancer, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Butterbur, Exhibits Cytotoxic Effects Against Cancers Cells

Scientists may have found a medicinal remedy for the prevention and treatment of cancer with no side effects, according to studies.

Cancer is a class of diseases in which a group of cells growing and multiplying disordered and uncontrollable ways in our body, due to the change of cellular DNA.

Most cases of cancer start in the cells on the surface of the inner lining of the tissue of the organ. At the 0 stage, due to the very small size of the tumor, most patients so not experience any symptoms.

However, at the later stage of the tumor progression, if undetected, the large size of the tumor can suppress and break the nearby small blood vessel, leading to internal bleeding and severe if the tumor also suppresses the nearby nerve cells.

Primary cancer cells at this advanced stage can also travel a distance away from the original site to affect other healthy tissue and organs, leading to secondary metastasis.

Symptoms of cancer at this stage are totally dependent on the affected area, including vomiting blood in oral and lung cancer blood in the urine in bladder cancer. hoarseness in throat cancer. ... Persistent lumps in the breast and lymph cancer and indigestion or difficulty swallowing in digestive related cancers.

Researchers do not know the exact causes of cancers, but they do know, according to epidemiological studies that age, alcohol cancer, chronic Inflammation, genetic proposition, unhealthy diet, change of hormones use of immunosuppression, infectious agents, obesity, exposure to radiation and sunlight, use of tobacco are most common risk factors associated with the onset of some specific cancers.

Some researchers in the investigation of weakened immune function in the risk of cancer suggested people with a weakened immune system lost the function
1) to stimulate the T cells inactivation of the B cells in the production of p53, a tumor suppressor gene, or antioncogene that inhibits the cancer cell proliferation and tumor development and

2) to stimulate the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines to kill off the DNA alternated damage cells in the acute phase of inflammation.

In other words, if you have a strong immune system, your risk of cancer is substantially lower compared to the general public.

Butterbur, found in wet, marshy, damp land, including wetland, riverside, forest, etc., is a creeping underground plant, genus Petasites of 15 -20 species, belonging to the family Asteraceae, native to Northern Hemisphere. the herbal plant has been used in herbal medicine used as a pain reliever in the digestive system, including stomach, bile ducts, and duodenum, etc.

The chemical constituents of Butterbur include Petioles, petasitene and pethybrene, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-glucoside, quercetin 3-O-beta-D-6''-O-acetylglucoside, and rutin, caffeic acid, alkaloids, S-petasin and iso-S-petasin, etc.

The Shandong University at Weihai, on finding a natural compound for the treatment of cancer with no side effects examined a new bakkenolide isolated from Butterbur anti-cancer effects.

The new bakkenolide exerted a potent cytotoxic activity against a number of cultured human cancer cells, including human cervical carcinoma (HeLa), human breast cancer (MCF-7) and murine Lewis lung carcinoma (LLC) cell lines.

According to the National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service in vitro methanol extract from the leaves in the rat liver epithelial cells. significantly decreased spontaneous beta-galactosidase activity and beta-galactosidase activity induced by a mutagen.

Elevated beta-galactosidase (beta-gal) enzyme activity is an indication of the tumor and metastatic expression.

All doses of the extract (0.08-100 mg/plate) decreased the reversion frequency induced by benzo (alpha)pyrene (BaP) in S. Typhimurium TA 98 of the Salmonella typhimurium.

Additional analysis of the experiment, PJ extract showed greater cytotoxic effects on the human stomach, colon, and uterus cancer cells than on other cancer cell types and normal rat liver epithelial cells.

Furthermore, PJ significantly increased the numbers of gap junction proteins associated with tumor suppression in a dose-dependent manner.

Dr. the lead scientist said, "Based on these findings, PJ is suggested to contain antimutagenic and anticarcinogenic compounds".

Taken altogether, herbal Butterbur may be considered a functional remedy for the prevention and combined with the primary medicine for the treatment of cancers.

Herbal Bilberry, the Anti-Obesity Functional Food in Animal and Human Study

On seeking natural therapy with no side effects, scientists may have a herbal remedy that visceral fat accumulation in obesity, according to studies.

Visceral fat is a layer of fat that surrounds the organs. Overexpression of visceral fat has been found to promote insulin resistance, diabetes, heart disease, and inflammation.

Visceral fat obesity is associated with 90% of patients with ischemic heart disease. In obese, accumulation of visceral fat is predominant in the intra-abdominal cavity.

However, in non-obese subjects, visceral fat accumulation is correlated with glucose intolerance, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension.

Obesity is a medical condition caused by excess body fat accumulated to an extent that impact personal health. The hallmark of obesity is attenuated metabolism and structural cell changes in the obese fat observed by reducing metabolic activity.

According to the statistics provided by the National Center for Health Statistics (2015-2016), in the US, approximately 39.8% of adults aged 20 and over were obese accompanied by another 31.8% overweight.

Obesity rates have increased for all population groups in the US over the last several decades, coincidently with the periods in the promotion of the Western diet.

Dr. Maximilian Tremmel, the lead scientist in the investigation of economic burden in obesity wrote, "The rising prevalence of obesity represents an important public health issue. An assessment of its costs may be useful in providing recommendations for policy and decision-makers" and "there was great variety in the included obesity-related diseases and complications among the studies".

And, "There is an urgent need for public health measures to prevent obesity in order to save societal resources. Moreover, international consensus is required on standardized methods to calculate the cost of obesity to improve homogeneity and comparability".

The findings strongly suggested that widespread obesity has caused significant pressure in the public health care system and an impact in the financial and economic burden.

Bilberry is a species of low-growing shrubs in the genus Vaccinium, belonging to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern Europe.

The plant has been used as herbs in traditional medicine for the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea, gastritis, gastric ulcer, and duodenal ulcer, enterocolitis, ulcerative colitis, anemia, cystitis, kidney disease, and psoriasis, diabetes, etc.

In the urgency to find a natural remedy for the treatment of obesity, researchers examined the effects of anthocyanin-rich phytochemicals found in aronia fruits (aronia phytochemicals) and bilberry in high-fat-diet-induced dietary obese rats.

During the study, bilberry phytochemicals-supplemented rats showed a significant reduction of total visceral fat mass but to a lesser extent compared to aronia phytochemicals.

Similarly, perirenal and epididymal adipose tissue mass in rats fed aronia phytochemicals was by far greater than the bilberry phytochemicals group.

Bilberry lowered the mesenteric adipose tissue mass.

Bilberry also exerted the equivalently inhibited the increases in plasma triglyceride levels, compared to that of aronia phytochemicals with a half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) of 1.50 mg/mL.

The results suggest that anthocyanin-rich phytochemicals in aronia fruits and bilberry may have a potency for the treatment of obesity through suppressing the visceral fat accumulation and hyperglycemia.

In order to reveal more information about bilberry anti-obesity property, researchers evaluated a flavonoid-rich supplement (329 mg/d) on total urine phenolics and shifts in plasma metabolites in overweight/obese female adults.

Participants (N = 103, 18-65 y, BMI ≥ 25 kg/m2) included in the study were randomized to flavonoid (F) or placebo (P) groups for 12 weeks with blood and 24 h urine samples collected prestudy and after 4 and 12 weeks in a parallel design.
The supplement included vitamin C, wild bilberry fruit extract, green tea leaf extract, quercetin, caffeine, and omega 3 fatty acids.

According to the urinary assay, the 4 weeks, urine total phenolics increased 24% in F versus P with similar changes at 12 weeks.

In of F demonstrated the shifts in 63 biochemicals compared to P with 70% from the lipid and xenobiotics super-pathways, according to the examination of metabolomics assay.

Where metabolite profile is reflective of metabolic processes, including pathophysiological changes characteristic of obesity-related complications.

The findings suggested that flavonoid-rich supplements may have a strong effect on the change of metabolome which is the sum of all the small-molecule chemicals found in a biological sample, often the blood plasma and considered a measurement of obesity and health beyond BMI.

Taken altogether, bilberry used alone or combined with other agents may be considered functional remedies for the prevention and treatment of obesity, pending to the confirmation of large sample size and multicenter human study.

Healthy Food Cranberry Protects the Heart Against Cardiovascular Toxicity

Cardiac toxicity is a condition in which the heart has been damage to some extents caused by harmful chemicals, including toxins induced by the treatment of chemotherapy, leading to reduced heart muscles function to pump blood and heart failure.

Long term intake of certain medication and people who are under treatment of chemotherapy have been found in most cases of cardiotoxicity.

Dr. Polonsky TS, the lead scientist wrote, "Age and preexisting left ventricular dysfunction have been identified most consistently as being associated with the development of clinical heart failure or a worsening of left ventricular function with chemotherapy".

And, "Other cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and coronary artery disease, are also associated with the risk of cardiotoxicity".

Additionally, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection, genetic preposition, a malignant disease associated with the amyloid deposited on the heart or other organs, high blood pressure, untreated hyperthyroidism, and vitamin b2 deficiency are some of the most prevalent factors found in patients with cardiotoxicity.

Depending on the cells of the areas of the heart that have been damaged, cardiac toxicity includes

* Cardiomyopathy is a disorder caused a weaken or damage of heart muscle, affecting the heart rhythm or inducing the risk of heart failure.

* Myocarditis is a condition of inflammation of the heart, that can lead to changes in heart rhythm or heart failure.

* Pericarditis is a condition caused by the inflammation of the sac surrounding the heart, inducing chest pain or heart failure.

* Acute coronary syndromes that affect the blood flow due to blood vessel damage.

* Congestive heart failure is a result that affects the function of the heart in pumping blood throughout the body.

Most common symptoms of cardiotoxicity are associated with not enough blood circulation in the body such as tiredness and fatigue, a long-term (chronic) cough, shortness of breath, floating due to the enlarged heart muscle, abnormal heart or lung sounds and swelling in your hands, feet, or unusual weight gain.

Conventionally, treatment of cardiotoxicity is totally depending on the types of the disease including

Beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors induce (widen) the arterial dilation and improvement of the blood flow and diuretics.

Cranberry is an evergreen dwarf shrub, genus Vaccinium, belongings to the family Ericaceae, native to Northern America and Southern Asia. Because of its health benefits, cranberry has been cultivated in some parts of the world for commercial profit and used in traditional and herbal medicine to treat wounds, urinary disorders, diarrhea, diabetes, stomach ailments, and liver problems.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, researchers examined the protective effect of cranberry extract (CRAN) against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity in an animal model.
According to the results of rats were given CRAN orally (100mg/kg/day for 10 consecutive days) and DOX (15mg/kg; i.p.) for 7 days, CRAN protected the heart function against DOX-induced increased mortality and ECG changes.

The reduced levels of antioxidants enzymes and increased oxidative stress in the cardiac tissues induced by DOX such as glutathione (GSH) depletion and oxidized glutathione (GSSG), malondialdehyde (MDA), and protein carbonyls were significantly inhibited by the administration of CRAN.

Furthermore, the reduced cardiac activities of catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and glutathione reductase (GR) induced by DOX were also inhibited by CRAN.

Moreover, CRAN also improved the cardiac myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity against infection compared to untreated rats.

Most important, CRAN also normalized the levels of enzymes associated with cardio muscle damage and injury casued by DOX such as troponin I, creatine phosphokinase (CK), and creatine kinase-MB.

Based on the findings, researchers said, "CRAN alleviated histopathological changes in rats' hearts treated with DOX. In conclusion, CRAN protects against DOX-induced cardiotoxicity in rats".

Taken altogether, cranberry may be considered a remedy for the protection of cardiovascular toxicity, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Bromelain, Inhibits Melanoma in Vitro and Vivo

Melanoma is a type of skin cancer caused by the alternation of DNA of the cells from the pigment-containing cells known as melanocytes.

Most cases of melanoma start in melanocytes on skin before spreading to the nearby tissue. In the advanced stage, the cancer cells can also travel a distance away from the originated site to infect other tissues and organs, leading to secondary metastasis, through the circulation of blood and fluids.

The most common sites of melanoma metastasis are the lung and breast.

Most common symptoms are visible by examing the change of skin, including the sores that can not heal itself, redness or swelling, persistent itching, tenderness and pain and particular, change of skin color and bleeding off of a mole compared to the normal moles.

If you are experiencing some of the aforementioned symptoms, please check with your doctor to rule out the possibility.

According to the statistics provided by the American Cancer Society, in 2019, approximately, 96,480 new melanomas will be diagnosed (about 57,220 in men and 39,260 in women) in the US. The condition also causes the death of 4,740 men and 2,490 women.

Believe it or not. most cases of melanoma are found in older adults. The average age diagnosed with melanoma is 63.

Compared to African Americans, melanoma is more than 20 times more common in whites.

Out of many risk factors associated with the onset of melanoma, some researchers suggested the misunderstanding of the health benefits and adverse effects of sun and tanning exposure may be the leading cause of melanoma.

Dr. Caroline Chang, the lead scientist said, "Despite advances in its detection and treatment, melanoma remains the primary cause of mortality from skin disease in the Western world.".

And, "Several personal risk factors for developing melanoma are well established, including family history, multiple moles, fair skin, blue eyes, red hair, and freckles.3Environmental exposures, chiefly from UV radiation, including outdoor sunburns and indoor tanning exposure, also have been associated with increased melanoma risk".

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

With an aim to find a natural ingredient against melanoma, researchers examined the effects of Bromelain pharmacological activity on B16F10 murine melanoma cells in vitro.

Compared to other parts of the plant, the highest enzymatic activity that was found in bromelain extracted from the pulp and peels and the optimum bromelain pH among all studied pineapple parts was 6.0 in a temperature above 50 °C in all bromelain extracts.

According to the results from the tested assays, bromelain showed a pharmacological activity against B16F10 melanoma cells by inhibiting 100% of tumor cell proliferation in vitro.

Based on the results, researchers said, "Since bromelain activity was found in different parts of pineapple plants, pineapple residues from the food industry may be used for bromelain extraction".

Furthermore, in melanoma-A375 cells, the application of bromelain exhibited a reduction in proliferation and suppressed their potential for anchorage-independent growth through its anti-inflammatory activity.

Moreover, bromelain was found to inhibit the melanoma-A375 cells by depleting intracellular glutathione and generating reactive oxygen species followed by mitochondrial membrane depolarization.

Bromelain-induced cell-cycle arrest at G(2)/M phase by exhibiting the expression of proteins associated with cell cycle arrest.

Additionally, bromelain increased the expression of proapoptotic and anti-proliferative proteins that cause apoptosis of the tested cell line.

Dr. Bhui K, the lead scientist wrote, "Bromelain afforded substantial anti-cancer potential in these settings; hence we suggest it as a potential prospect for anti-cancer agents besides only an additive in chemotherapy".

Taken altogether, bromelain may be considered supplements for the prevention and treatment of melanoma, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.

Herbal Bilberry Protects the Retina Against Degeneration

Retinal degeneration is a condition of retinopathy associated with the gradual loss of neurons near the inner surface of the retina of the eyes.

Most cases of retinopathy are caused by abnormal blood flow.

The most common forms of retinal degeneration are macular degeneration which is a condition when the small central portion of the retina, (the macula) deteriorates and retinitis pigmentosa (RP) which is a rare genetic disorder involved a breakdown and loss of cells in the retina.

Retinal degeneration disease has been found to have a strong impact on daily life, ranging from performing basic functions to personal independence and mental health and vision loss.

According to the statistics, the overall prevalence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is in the range of 1.38%-1.55%) and retinitis pigmentosa is 1 in 3,500 to 1 in 4,000 individuals.

Age-related macular degeneration affects more than 1.75 million individuals in the United States, and the number is increasing rapidly due to the growth of an aging population. The number of persons having AMD will increase by 50% to 2.95 million in 2020.

Symptoms of retinal degeneration may include blurred central vision or a blind spot in the center of the visual field.

In severe cases, loss of vision may be possible, particularly in people over the age of 60.

Dr. Rita Ehrlich, the lead scientist said, "Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is an ocular disease that causes damage to the retinal macula, mostly in the elderly. Normal aging processes can lead to structural and blood flow changes that can predispose patients to AMD".

Researchers in the concern about retinal degenerative diseases induced vision loss and retinal cell death examined the protective effects of the complex lutein formula (CLF) by combining several natural compounds: Calendula officinalis, Lycium barbarum, Vaccinium myrtillus, Cassia obtusifolia, and Rhodiola Rosea.

The formula showed significant protection of retinal functions in an animal model for light-induced retinal degeneration.

Before applying the formula, retinal function in animals exposed to light for 7 days decreased significantly.

However, CLF injection improved the superiority of the retinal function despite light exposure.

Furthermore, CLF restored a greater portion of the outer nuclear layer (ONL) (i.e. the nuclei of photoreceptors) in these animals compared to that of animals that had not received the formula after 7 days of light exposure.

The findings strongly suggested CLF including bilberry exerted a retinal protect against the gradual loss of vision caused by degeneration.

Dr. the lead scientist after taking other factors into account wrote in the final report, "our dietary CLF supplement attenuated retinal function loss resulting from long-term light exposure".

Long term light exposure on animal models has been associated with retinal degeneration, as it damages the retina (phototoxicity) and decreases photoreceptor which has strong implications for age-related macular degeneration.

Taken altogether, bilberry used alone or combined with other herbal remedies may be considered functional remedies for the prevention of retinal degeneration, pending to the validation of larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Herbal Ashwagandha Protects the Neurons Against the Risk of Neuroblastoma

A neuron is a nerve cell that forms a building block of the nervous system.

Neuroblastoma is cancer developed by the immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body, mostly in and around the adrenal glands.

Cancer most commonly affects children age 5 or younger compared to less often in older children.

According to the statistics provided by the Cancer Net, approximately 800 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma in the United States.

And 90% of children affected by neuroblastoma are children younger than 5.

Sadly, the the-5-year survival rate of cancer is less than 50%.

The most common symptoms are totally depending on the area that has been effected* Neuroblastoma in the abdomen can induce symptoms of pains, a mass under the skin that isn't tender when touched and changes in bowel habits, such as diarrhea or constipation.

* Neuroblastoma in the chest may cause symptoms including wheezing, chest pain and changes to the eyes, including drooping eyelids and unequal pupil size

Some patients with neuroblastoma may also experience symptoms of back pain, fever, unexplained weight loss, and bone pain.

Ashwagandha also known as Withania somnifera is a nightshade plant in the genus of Withania, belonging to the family Solanaceae, native to the dry parts of India, North Africa, Middle East, and the Mediterranean.

The herbal medicine has been considered as Indian ginseng and used in Ayurvedic medicine over 3000 years to treat tumors and tubercular glands, carbuncles, memory loss, and ulcers and considered as anti-stress, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory, and anti-aging herbal medicine.

On finding a potent compound for the protection of neurons, researchers examined the effects of ashwagandha root extract consumption on human neuroblastoma (IMR32).

Human neuroblastoma (IMR32) cells, pretreated with Ashwagandha-reagents for 24 h, were exposed to H2O2 (300 μM) for 2 h, before incubating in control or test medium supplemented with either the alcoholic (i-Extract) or water (WEX) extracts or their active components (withanone or withaferin A), showed a significant effect on H2O2 by 40%.

Furthermore, i-Extract, withanone or WEX also resulted in an increase in neuron viability by 20–30%

In other words, IMR32 cells treated by i-Extract, withanone or WEX protected the neuron integrity and viability against the oxidative activity of H2O2 that causes DNA damage to the brain cells.

On LDH assay analysis, Dr. Navjot Shah, the lead scientist said, " Similar to the viability assay, LDH assay also showed the least protective effect in case of withaferin A-treated cells. Furthermore, cell morphology endorsed that the i-Extract, withanone, and WEX protected IMR32 and C6 cells against H2O2 stress".

Taken altogether, Ashwagandha may be considered a functional herb that protects the neurons against the onset of neuroblastoma, pending to the result of larger sample size and multicenter study

Bromelain Improves the Neurological Status in Post Acute Infarction

Acute brain infarction is the medical condition characterized by the obstruction of the blood supply to the brain, causing the local death of the brain tissue.

The occurrence and extent of brain infarction are associated with three basic factors, including the site of arterial occlusion, the rapidity of arterial occlusion, and the presence or absence of collateral circulation.
In other words, brain infarction can be classified into myocardial infarction due to plaque rupture and myocardial oxygen supply-demand imbalance secondary to other acute illnesses.

The most common symptoms of acute brain infarction are trouble with speaking and understanding, confusion, sudden numbness, weakness or paralysis in your face, arm or leg, headache and the trouble with walking.

Depending on the severity of the acute infarction, in serious cases, patients may also experience symptoms, paralysis of the face, arm or leg, trouble with seeing in one or both eyes.

Acute brain infarction is a medical emergency, Prompt treatment can minimize brain damage and potential complications.

There are many factors associated with the risk of acute infarction. However, aging may have a strong and negative implication on acute infarction.

Dr. Mehta RH, the lead scientist wrote, "Older age was associated with a greater proportion of patients with functional limitations, heart failure, prior coronary disease, and renal insufficiency and a lower proportion of male and diabetic patients".

And, "...age-associated differences in clinical characteristics in elderly patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI), which account for some of the age-associated differences in mortality".

Bromelain, a proteolytic enzyme found in pineapples (Ananas comosus) has been used in traditional medicine as an inflammatory agent and to treat pains, strains, and muscle aches and pains and ease back pain and chronic joint pain, skin diseases, etc.

On finding a potential compound for the treatment of complications after acute brain infarction, researchers examined the effect of Flogensim on the neurological status on 1st and 7 days after developing the disease.109 patients.

Where Flogenzim consists of highly active proteolytic enzymes containing bromelain, trypsin and of Rutinum.

According to the tested analysis, on day 7, Flogenzim treatment group showed a decrease in the concentration of I1-6, compared to control.

Where high levels of interleukin-6 (I1-6) is associated with postischemic inflammation in patients with acute brain infarction.

Furthermore, on day 21 among patients pertaining to a different group, the considerable difference in consequences were better increases in the treatment group.

More profoundly, the number of patients of Flogenzim group showed no dynamic or even worsening in neurological status decreases, compared to control.

Taken altogether, bromelain used alone or combined with other remedies may be considered a remedy for the improvement of neurological status, pending to the confirmation of the larger sample size and multicenter human study.

Intake of bromelain in the form of supplements should be taken with extreme care to prevent overdose acute liver toxicity.
