The finding the natural ingredients for treatment of fibroids is considered as a dream of many scientist to replace the long usage adverse effect of conventional medicine to other organs in the body. Unfortunately, many compounds found effective in initial studying failed to confirm the potential in large sample size and multi center.
Fibroids also known as uterine fibroids, is a condition of irregular cell growth of non cancerous tumor from the muscle layers of the uterus.
Recent studies suggested that scientist in some research centers have found the naturally potential ingredients, such as Green tea(1), Turmeric(3) and Olive(7) for reduced risk and treatment for
fibroids.
Green tea contains more amount of antioxidants than any drinks or food with the same volume, and is the leaves of Camellia sinensis, undergone minimal oxidation during processing, originated from China. Its phytochemical, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), dramatically reduced the volume and weight of fibroids tumors at 4 and 8 weeks on rat leiomyoma (ELT3) cells in vitro and in a nude mice mode(1).
In a pilot randomized controlled clinical study, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) also inhibited the Uterine fibroids, significantly reduced fibroid-specific symptom severity as well as improved quality of life of patients(2).Green tea contains more amount of antioxidants than any drinks or food with the same volume, and is the leaves of Camellia sinensis, undergone minimal oxidation during processing, originated from China. Dr. Ozercan IH and the research team at the University of Firat said,"dietary supplementation with EGCG reduces the incidence and size of spontaneously occurring leiomyoma of the oviduct" in Japanese quail study(3).
Lycopene, a major phytochemical and antioxidant supplementation, found in tomato, exhibited a decreased incidence of leiomyomas in the oviduct of Japanese quail, according to the University of Firat(3).
According to Dr. Sahin K1 and research team at the Firat University, lycopene intake reduced risk leiomyomas (fibroids), benign tumors of the uterus affecting millions of women through its anti inflammatory activities in cell cycle arrest pathways(4).
In fact, in a 6627 incident cases of UL diagnosed by ultrasonography, dietary vitamin A is associated to reduce risk of uterine leiomyomata, according to the Slone Epidemiology Center at Boston University(5).
Flavopiridol is a potent CDK inhibitor exhibited antiproliferative effect against Fibroids as flavonoid compound through cell cycle phase I arrest, according to the joint study lead by the Keimyung University School of Medicine(7).
The combined epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), lycopene and apigenin and luteolin, found in green tea, carrot and strawberry respectively may contribute to further investigation of therapeutic natural ingredients for reduced risk and treatment of Fibroids
Women who are at increased risk of Fibroids due to family history, genetic mutation,... should drink at least one serving daily and women with Fibroids should drink as much as they can, depending to digestive toleration.
